Dirty bathrooms with no toilet roll, clogged sinks, hairy showers and mouldy walls - does not appear to be cleaned with any regularity. The noise from the generators outside is incredibly disturbing at night with only the thinnest windows. The hostels only saving grace is its location which is incredibly central and within easy walking distance of all Cardiff’s main attractions like the castle and museum. If you’re only staying for one night you could probably put up with these problems, but the absolute state of the bathrooms means that anything longer would be unbearable.

Absolutely loved this, ive never stayed in a hostel before. We had a bit of trouble trying to get in with the pass key to start, staff weren't very helpful to start , watched us struggle fir a good half hour!! But once in it was brilliant, we went to a concert, and instead of going out around cardiff after we went back to hostel to drink with fellow travellers. Staff were so lovely in the morning, the cleaners were a great laugh and helped with all our queries. Definitely recommend 👌

Easily the biggest issue is the system used to get in and out of the building or any of the facilities. They send you a digital key on your phone that doesn’t work consistently even on a good day and God help you if your battery dies. The first night I was here, I almost had a panic attack because I couldn’t work out how to get in, meaning I had to call the staff. Being neuro-divergent, phone calls are one of my biggest triggers and it was an intensely uncomfortable situation just to get in the building. Then the door to my room didn’t work through the night, meaning we had to keep it propped open or risk being locked out. Thankfully this was fixed, but this system is still incredibly flawed.

Terrible service throw away my sisters luggage that had valuable in it. Our mother’s ashes, her IPad and basically most of ger things including clothes as well. And in the time period that she couldn’t collect it on time she called them multiple time to let them know that she’ll be going into surgery and won’t collect it on time. When I called them to ask why this has happened they didn’t help In the slightest.

The lockers aren’t working it is dirty. The beds are really bad and shaking all the time. The doors closing is so loud that you wake up every time. In total it’s a very terrible place but also cheap However the common area is quite nice

Avoid at all costs. This place is an absolute disgrace and a perfect example of how not to treat customers. Me and my friend booked a stay at BunkHouse Hostel and DnB Bar through the Hostelworld app. We were told over the phone that even though reception closed at 10 pm, it would be fine to arrive after 11.30 pm because we would be emailed a digital key to access the property. That key never arrived. The only email we got was the booking confirmation. No access info. No instructions. Nothing. When we arrived, the doors were locked and there was no way of getting in. We checked all our emails. Still no key. We were lied to. Because of this, we were left stranded in Wales late at night and my friend had to spend 100 pounds on a last-minute stay at a Holiday Inn. Money we would never have spent if they had just kept their word. The next day we went back to the hostel to explain what happened and to ask for a refund. The man working there was aggressive, arrogant and ignorant. As soon as we started explaining the situation, he slammed his laptop shut and started shouting at us to get out of his office. When my friend calmly asked for a refund, he became even more hostile and tried to intimidate us. Completely unprofessional and absolutely disgusting behaviour. My friend stood his ground but it became obvious that these people were never going to take responsibility or offer any kind of solution. So we left. This encounter is not over. We will be reporting this situation to Trading Standards and filing a complaint with Hostelworld. Let this be a warning to anyone thinking of staying here. They will take your money, lie to you, leave you stranded, and then treat you with nothing but disrespect when you try to sort it out. Stay far away from BunkHouse Hostel and DnB Bar. You deserve better.

Dear Bunk House Team,||I am writing to express my disappointment following a recent experience at your hostel.||Despite having a confirmed booking through Hostelworld, we arrived to find that you had no record of our reservation. We provided all the relevant booking details, which appeared to be in your system, yet we were told that Hostelworld had not passed the booking to you. The staff member on duty informed us that you were fully booked and offered no assistance or sympathy, leaving us without accommodation in Cardiff.||This lack of support and empathy in a stressful situation was incredibly disappointing. We were forced to find alternative accommodation at the last minute, incurring unexpected costs and added stress during what was supposed to be a pleasant trip.||I hope you will take this feedback seriously and review both your booking processes and staff training, especially regarding how to handle issues with care and professionalism when guests are left in such a difficult situation.

During a week vacation to a suburb outside of the city centre I decided to see more of my personal favourite that is Cardiff City Centre. Whilst, making my way back to Cardiff Central Train Station on one of the main shopping streets I heard the distinctive riddim of Drum 'n Bass. To my surprise this was from a street-level bar that openly promotes this British music genre of which am personally favourable to. The bar layout was pleasant with very nice staff whom informed me that the building is a combination of... Hostel, Bar & basement nightclub. A rarity indeed. Unique concept.

Yelp
Attempting to find somewhere on a Saturday night in Cardiff that doesn't require a bodycon and 8 inch heels can sometimes be difficult. Which is probably one of the main reasons as to why, (despite being a hostel) Bunkhouse is my favourite bar. Aside from the Free Wi-Fi and amazingly Instagrammable décor - what I love most about Bunkhouse is that you can wear Skinny Jeans and Flats without feeling like the girl who has forgotten her P.E kit. They have board games, books, a pop-up cinema and they serve their hot chocolate with Nutella and toasted marshmallows - What more could you want from a Saturday night?! Note, If you are planning on staying in the Hostel you can book a bed from as little as £15 per night and a basic breakfast including tea, coffee, cereal, toast and jam is included. Linen is also included and there are lockers provided underneath each bed.

Yelp
The Bunk House is situated smack bang in the centre of Cardiff on St Mary Street and is not just a hostel. I love this place and often pop in on my lunch break for a coffee as the bar is open to the general public regardless of whether you are staying in the hostel rooms which are located upstairs. One of the reasons I like this place so much is that when you walk in off of the street you notice immediately the calm and relaxed atmosphere. You won't find a sleek modern designer yuppie bar here, all of the furniture has an antique, old fashioned feel and you will notice yesteryear items around that give the bar a grannies attic appeal. The staff here are extremely friendly and have a varied taste in music which you will notice is playing in the background, adding to the atmosphere. I think I could happily spend all day here simply drinking coffee and working on my laptop. On top of that, the accommodation is great value offering beds from only £15 per night. When you realise the cost of a bed in the heart of the capital can cost you as much as 4 times that amount, or even more, you can't deny that they offer excellent value for money.

Yelp
Location - Fantastic Facilities - Good Staff - rude, unhelpful, hostile I came here with a large group, and we were met with hostility by the management and all but one of the hostel's staff. The Bunkhouse is a great idea, but the staff let it down.
