A Local’s Guide to New Zealand

"Do breakfast or lunch at Buoy, an unpretentious, quirky café with a great menu—I recommend the sautéed mushrooms—and good coffee. Buoy is located in the Westhaven Marina, just under the Harbour Bridge, connecting the city with the northern suburbs. The café has a great deck overlooking all the pretty boats parked and the glittering sea."

Blueberry cinnamon was yummy. We have not tried any other food other than the dessert and the coffee. The location is really good especially in summer. You have the view of the yachts, water, and Auckland skyline. Service was ok. They do table service after you order.

We have always loved sitting outside here and watching the boats and people, feeding fish and seagulls. I had a very nice prawn salad. He had a pretty underwhelming chicken, cranberry and brie bun.

My dad and I were out for a stroll and stopped here for a latish lunch. I ordered food from the cabinet because I was so hungry, and ate half the food before remembering to take a photo! It was pretty busy, and a glorious sunny day, so things were a little crowded and flustered, but the food was great. I had the smoked chicken bap and a cheese scone. My dad had the French toast. Neither of us left anything on the plate.

Got excited when we found a $15 espresso martini on the menu but deeply disappointed to find it lacked the coffee liqueur. Sorry, but it's just not the same drink without some kahlua! I had the mushroom spaghetti which was generously portioned and quite tasty. We sat outside which was lovely with the sun putting in a rare appearance. Good to find a cafe within cooey of the city where parking is free and usually abundant.

So, I don't know how this place has good reviews. Me and a 3 friends came here post a run for coffee. I grabbed a large americano (it was pretty small) A date scone, which I asked to not be toasted, it was so stale I had to ask them to toast it.(I even told them it was stale, no comment from them) There were no dates in it, it was dry, old My friend had a veggie scone, it was pretty bad, she didn't eat it Person taking the coffee order, didn't smile, wasn't welcoming Non of us would go back, pretty poor $20.20 for two black coffees and a stale scone is taking the piss.

I visited on a Sunday morning so it was pretty busy but the service and food were very good despite the long queues. Probably best to visit either very early or after midday if you are looking to get a seat lol. Wonderful location and a fabulous walk to and from the marina along the Westhaven Marina Walkway. The views are spectacular. Thanks to the team for a great coffee! 😁

Honestly not sure why people come here. Have they changed hands? We had two poached eggs on toast which were hard-boiled. They gave us one extra new set of eggs and grudgingly brought a second (as both were ruined). Eggs tasted of vinegar. We've been sitting here for an hour with dirty plates, only 3 other groups and 2x servers standing around, but no-one has taken our plates so our table is a mess. Really expensive too - $30 for eggs benny. Plastic plants and furniture. No atmosphere. No toilets. 1000% not worth it. Coffee was quite good, which was the one highlight. Lemon tart looked good but tasted quite freezer burned.

What a lovely place! The ladies were very friendly, quick, and attentive. The other people's food looked amazing. I only wanted some sweet cabinet food. It did not disappoint. The coffee was perfection. Even on a cloudy and rainy day, it was still a nice day out, with a lovely view
