"Incorporated in 1911, the city of Burbank owes it's name to dentist and original land owner Dr. David Burbank who settled here in the 1860's. In the early twentieth century the entertainment and aviation industries began to take root, building the foundations for the city we know today. At the Burbank Historical Society, the cities early beginnings and industries are captured throughout this large complex of exhibits, preserved historic houses, and community buildings featuring full calendars of arts, culture, sports, theater and creative classes. You can't miss this place, as it has an actual F-104 parked outside on the street." - Jennifer Beatty

Great place to spend an afternoon! They have docents to answer questions or explain the exhibits. Lots of memories even if you're not from Burbank.

Google
A great value especially considering free admission. Great sections dedicated to the major entertainment and aerospace industries that really put Burbank on the map. Also had an amazing level of antiques and items ranging from automobiles to toys. Loved the photos and maps from almost a century ago that so how far the city has come.

Google
I had an absolute pleasure visiting this historical society. It gives me reassurance that local history is being preserved at such a smaller scale than traditional musuems. The workers there were nice and helpful and very informative towards their history. I enjoyed every part of the musuem. I would definitely return back and check out more in detail.

Fun little muaeum with an awful lot of history. Not always open and it is a bit difficult to find. However, it is well worth a trip and visit.

Yelp
A nice revelation to find out such a cool museum complex in the heart of Burbank! I found out about Burbank Historical Society pre-pandemic and never got around to visit it. But I checked their site and noticed that they re-opened, so we went to check it out as a Valentine's Day activity in a Sunday. The museum is oopen only Saturdays and Sundays from 1 pm to 4 pm. I would call to make sure it's open before you go, this was the first weekend the place was opened in 2022! Plenty of parking on the street and private lot. The museum is near George Izay park, so there are many options for that. There are a couple of docents working, they came to you from time to time to give you more information and guide you around since the buidling is bigger than you'd think! Very nice people at the front desk, you can visit the museum for free, can leave a donation if you can. The museum has a bit of everything: history of Burbank and the city developped, with many photos, maps, information. A bit about industries that made Burbank a home, like Lockheed Aviation, Disney Studios and NBC. So you have plane models, stories about Amelia Earhart, lots of memorabilia and fun props from Disney, NBC and Debbie Reynolds who used to be Miss Burbank. Cool trivia! And lots of private collections on display, automobiles (they rent them for movies or parades), pottery, train sets, old wineries and Burbank's agriculture and farming on display, old restaurant signs from the area, a bit of everything. The place is keeps going on, so you need 1-2 hours at least to tour it. It is fun, educational and entertaning! There are many restrooms and you'll barely see any other visitors! Great place for locals to learn more about the area, could be fun to being visitors, as a off the beaten path attraction. Cool for all ages! Wonderful museum complex, check it out, we had a very nice visit and we'll return!

Yelp
Cute little free museum in Burbank. Strange, quirky, dusty, perfect for a Saturday. Great place for lovers of cars, history, and Americana.

Yelp
No other phrase fits other than "hidden gem" Everyone was so sweet and friendly that worked there. They even told us about a great members invite event that have on the 4th of July that sounds really fun.

Yelp
Wow! Burbank has great history! From canneries to film/TV production to Lockheed Aerospace and everything in between. This museum has artifacts that fill two stories of the museum! I enjoyed wandering through the extensive exhibits. A volunteer docent escorted me through about 40 minutes. He was extremely knowledgeable and filled with interesting and historical facts about Burbank's rich history. I highly recommend taking a walk through. It's definitely worth the time.

Yelp
I had been wanting to visit this museum in my own city of Burbank but it took a long, long time before I was finally able to make it. It's because they are one only open on weekends from 1-4pm when I'm particularly busy with family and/or friends gatherings. Until one Saturday afternoon that I was free so I was finally able to visit. Friendly docents were ready to welcome you as soon as you walk in. Admission is free but donations are welcome. I'm amazed how much artifacts, valuables, novelties, and collections are in here that tells the history of Burbank from 1880's. From then, Burbank raised from being a agricultural area to Lockheed era during the war and to be recognized the entertainment capital of the world. The biggest surprise I saw in this museum was actually the memorabilia of Debbie Reynolds who was Miss Burbank 1948. On display was the gown she wore on her coronation night plus the trophy. This is a two story building which you can freely roam on your own pace. It's easy to navigate as the path to each room was carefully arranged from beginning to end. There are numerous restrooms upstairs or downstairs.

Yelp
If you like History This is a do not miss Place only open from 1pm-4pm Saturday and Sunday to much to list 20,000sq building and an 1887 house as something for everyone. donations requested but not required.

Yelp
This is the best museum to take your kids to. You can get into a time machine and see how things worked way before smart phones. Little boys will love it because of all the cars, airplane and military exhibitions. Little girls will love it because of the clothes and toys. Grown ups will love it because if you have a question someone dedicated will try to answer it AND it's free. You can leave a donation

Yelp
This great free little museum tells the story of Burbank California. From the start as a Spanish land grant, to a wheat and sheep farm for a Dentist from New Hampshire, Burbank became the home to one of America's greatest airplane manufactures. Lockheed, built planes that made history (Amilia Airheart) and win wars (P-38, SR-71, Hercules). You may know Burbank as the entertainment capital of the world since entertainment companies such as Disney, and Warner Brothers call burbank home. The museum provides visors with a glimpse into the past of this little, but important town.

Yelp
The Gordon R. Howard Historical Society aka Burbank Historical Society is a gem. A 2 story complex with an adjacent Victorian home it is well worth the time for a visit on a Saturday or Sunday from 1 pm to 4 pm. Learn about local history, take a trip into the past.
