It is a very nice castle. You can see that already by approaching him. It look very nice between the hills. There is a parking lot in front of the cashier. You can go on foot or you can go with cable train. I took the cable train. Castle is very interesting. Guided tour is very nice, very interesting and you see much interesting parts of the castle. There is a self service restaurant and one with table service. Worth of visiting

Summary: - €20,90 per person all-inclusive cost (excluding food) - Cool but touristy - Good parking situation the day we went - The lift can feel a little sketchy, especially if your height adverst. - The hike up is quite steep and can be difficult if you’re not physically prepared. - Beautiful views of surroundings! It is difficult to know what is actually from early on in the castles history and what is updated. There have definitely been a lot of updates over the years. There is a small food court in the center of the castle which could be convenient, but it kills the vibe a bit. The bird event is cool as well, a couple different types of birds fly around, but also only in Dutch/German. It cost 20,90 euros to get the lift round trip (up & back), and you can include a guided tour for no extra charge. The tours are at set time slots though, ours was at 12:10pm. Cool tour!… but very packed and the guides speak only in Dutch/German. You need a little device to give you the pre-set English version.

Great castle with some fantastic views! There is a falconry center inside and chances are that you'll see falcons even outside of the show, which is scheduled only a few times per day - birds may be flying around or just hanging out somewhere on the castle territory. Walking trail from the parking to the castle is quite easy and takes up to 20min in one side.

Really nice day visit. Easy to get to by train from Salzburg and cheap on the freizeit ticket. Nice funicular lift up to the top. Guided tour and bird exhibition. Cafe at top too. Just over 23 euros per adult for the whole experience. Cheaper for kids etc.

Visited as a family with my two sons. This was the perfect balance for adults and children. You should purchase the tour as part of your ticket (and not worry about whether the kids would engage in it like we did!) as you are taken around with an English audio guide and a live tour guide. The children get their own version which both kids loved (yes even my youngest at 5) and everything’s rickety and ‘adventurous’ according to my sons. You end up up a set of stairs (close to a ladder) and climbing up the bell tower. (This can be skipped if you are scared of heights/have difficulty climbing). The falconry experience is fabulous and the old fashioned games for kids is a welcome change to a playground! Super place, with super views. Accommodating to tourists of other nationalities and a great day out!

One of the favorite parts of my trip to Salzburg would definitely be our day trip to Hohenwerfen! Loved the castle tour, although the tour guide only spoke in German and there was no translation to English. Thankfully there was an audio guide. Would have still been better if the tour guides would also translate to English. Apart from the castle, I was mesmerized with the falcon show where you can witness various birds of prey in action. The birds would fly inches from you in a one of a lifetime experience. Highly recommend!

Google
Nice castle, but not the most interesting I've seen. It's too child-oriented, and aside from the hawk/eagle show, there’s not much else. The castle offers very little about its history or origins, construction, and evolution — which is a shame, considering it has plenty of space to showcase antiques and guide visitors through its development from inception to the present-day structure. It feels like a missed opportunity.

Google
Saw this attraction advertised on a Salzburg activity map. It was simply brilliant! Great value for money, spent over 4hrs doing the guided tour, falconry show and looking at the other the exhibitions. Our guide was friendly and informative despite us using audio guides. The birds of Prey on display were phenomenal inc Eagles, Falcons and Vultures. Would highly recommend booking the whole experience.

Yelp
The entry fee is insane amount just to see the shop and the restaurant. And thats it pretty much. There are a few rooms open which are not exciting at all. The only way to see the castle if you pay a guided tour. Which is not a problem but they dont tell you this when you huy the ticket so you are pretty much screwed. All of the inside is closed!!! They run tours every hour or so. They should articulate better that they only meaningful way to see the castle is via the tour.

Yelp
We had a great afternoon at the Berg. We took a tour and there is even a falconry show if you get there in time to see it. Very entertaining. They also have a restaurant, gift shop, and a concession stand.

Yelp
This castle was scenic, and there was a lot to see in the area. I brought a tour here and was very impressed with the staff and the environment - there was a lot to do and the audio tour was quite enjoyable!

Yelp
I'm not really much of a history buff and confess the main reason I wanted to visit this place was the connection to the old Clint Eastwood movie Where Eagles Dare which was shot there in part. Certainly there were areas of the castle that I recognized from the movie but don't show up expecting the tour guide to be showing you where Clint killed his twelfth Nazi in the communications room. The reality is that the film has no recognition locally, possibly due to what is obviously a delicate subject matter for the locals. As a result the movie isn't mentioned one time on the tour. Shame as it is a decent attempt at a wartime story. The guide speaks only German on the tour but we knew this in advance. You are handed little phone sets (included in the standard charge) for your own language but it was a little heavy for our liking. The views are amazing from the castle though and possibly worth a visit on their own as you don't need to pay for the tour as well as the funicular ride up there. The falconry exhibition was interesting although we never really got the feeling they had full control of the birds themselves. This was confirmed when an errant falcon missed its target and ploughed into a young boy standing around. Tears were shed! Beware of the extensive walking involved on the tour and afterwards when hiking to the falconry area. It really does require at least a decent level of fitness.

Yelp
This castle is incredible my kids enjoyed the ice caves and the bird show but now a video game company called Trayarc or something is making a zombies version of the castle.

Yelp
this is a must-see! we took a train from salzburg to see the castle. it was rainy, which was disappointing but because of the weather our pictures came out spectacular - all the fog around the mountain and the fortress was just beautiful! From the train station it takes about 30-40min to get up to the castle. you pretty much have to walk a lot just to get to the foot of the castle, then u have to climb up. because it was raining, we decided to take the lift up instead of hiking, which was fine but the walk to the lift is still long. I would have liked to hike up there because im sure the view will be incredible on the way up. the fortress itself is very impressive. its rather big! we did the guided tour, which was interesting. I wouldn't have done it but if u wanna go inside the castle u have no other choice. if you do purchase tickets, be sure u stick around for the hawk show. its impressive to see.
