My friend said it best when she asked out loud, "the owners live locally? Have they no pride?".
Reconsider staying overnight in the cabins if any of these apply to your desires:
safety:
stairs and balconies are unstable, second floors have holes around smokestack that toddlers will fall through, smokestacks are not airtight, your log will not last through a few hours (pine) and you'll have asthma by morning. Solar lights in the outhouse right? HAAAAAAA, no.
cleanliness:
rustic is used a lot in the other reviews, this is misleading, as it seems to suggest quaint and sentimental. However, there is no power, thus no vacuuming (you'll see the broom provided is an ancient joke), there is no running water, thus no such thing as wiping down a surface EVER, and no possible way to "clean" the outhouses.
comfort:
the bed frame and mattress were uneven, laughably uneven. Even with our own bedding, the nights were unbearable. No screens, just water stained curtains. The floppy armchair cushion was sunken (ask a friend for a hand up). Do not lean against or brush up against the surfaces unless you bring tweezers to pull out the wooden slivers.
If you are simply going to spend less than a day to enjoy the hot springs only, realize that the varying water temperatures that other reviewers mention are all hot. There is no chill down pool, chill flow or cold water showerhead options. The bathtub at the end of the pool flow is as "cool" of water you will experience. The hot spring itself is magic.
If you enjoy photographing historic places, you're going to love the property.
The "lodge", check-in building has a small number of snacks to buy and locally made body care, t-shirts, and other mercantile.
There were two dogs living onsite. One of them was friendly and curious, the other one growled at small children. They were free to roam and come by the cabins snooping for snacks.
Due to the relevance of other incredible hot springs that might be on your bucket list, this place is pretty low on my priority to recommend. If you live locally, sure, why not. If you're thinking of flying/driving into Idaho, just for this place, hopefully, you have lots of other recreational interests.
