Google
I was referred to Burger Baron by a friend and was pleasantly surprised. I had the ½-pound burger with fries, and it was well prepared, juicy, and delicious. It is precisely what you want from a classic burger. This is a no-frills, regular burger-and-hot-dog joint with a classic neighborhood vibe. Portions are generous, the fries were crispy, and everything tasted fresh. It’s a straightforward spot that focuses on doing the basics right. Some people mention it’s a little pricey, and while that may be true, so is just about every fast-food place in town these days. For the quality and portion size, it felt fair. Solid, reliable spot and I’d definitely come back.

Google
It was my first time going there, and it was phenomenal! The steal sandwich ?- the grilled onions were grilled perfectly, and the steak was on point!

Google
PLEASE DO NOT EAT HERE. They are unhygenic, it was a white male about 5’6 built had an attitude the whole time , would not refund me after purposely tampering with my soup. I honestly hope this place get shut down. PLEASE DONT EVER EAT HERE.

Rowan R.

Google
Burger place with a greasy burger and acceptable fries, exactly what i was hoping for. The staff were nice

Google
Review: Burger Baron As a long-time patron of Burger Baron, today's experience left me questioning the standards of this establishment. Despite its continued cleanliness, recent visits have been less than satisfying. Paying close to $17 for a Gyro-style plate, I was disappointed to find the meat served cold, as if it hadn't been properly heated. It seemed that the staff, more concerned with closing duties, overlooked the quality of the meal and customer satisfaction. Simple requests, like extra salad dressing, were neglected amidst the rush to close up shop. The value for money was severely lacking, considering the portion size and temperature of the food. Due to the changes in the quality of what was once a great place to have a good meal, I no longer recommend Burger Baron. It's clear that improvements are needed.

Google
Burger Baron on West Grand Avenue is a classic Chicago spot that never disappoints. I swung by last week and grabbed their 1/2 lb. Baron Cheeseburger for $10.55—cooked just right with all the fixings. The fries were crispy and hit the spot. Service was quick and friendly, making it a great place for a casual bite!

Steven R.

Google
Ate here for the first time, as it was highly recommended. Place was awful. Burger was a frozen Costco patty and fries were freezer burnt. Five guys prices so a waste of money. Culvers kids meal is cheaper and better

Rocky A.

Google
I've been to burger baron a few times and it's always very clean inside and the workers are nice. Their menu is quite large so there is plenty to choose from! The fries have been delicious without being drenched in oil, and my girlfriend loved the Italian beef sandwich.

Yelp
Burger Baron offers the best Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich with its perfectly grilled, tender slices of steak, melded with a generous portion of melted, gooey cheese. Great burgers and fries fried just right. Friendly staff and great prices!

Andrew J.

Yelp
This place is awesome, went there for lunch after reccomendation from coworker and was not disappointed. The prices are perfect and the portions were even better.
google avatar

Joe G.

Yelp
Burgers are just average, fries were pretty good. The cream of rice chicken soup was excellent. Plan on stopping again when I'm in the neighborhood, but would not go out of my way to eat here.
google avatar

Andrew D.

Yelp
No frills, quick service, good food. The burgers are huge. I'm a fan of the gryos. Friendly staff.
google avatar

Mickey F.

Yelp
Perfect gyro. This restaurant is truly consistent with great service and quality chicago style food. I hope this place never changes. Long live the Baron!

Dedra B.

Yelp
Ordered the Greek salad with chicken... This was the blandest most underwhelming chicken I've ever tasted... I think I had what 2 olives??? What a joke..

Yelp
BB has been a reliably excellent Chicago-style food establishment for decades. I can personally attest to 13 years of big, juicy, delicious burgers; crispy, perfectly salted fries; fast, friendly service. There are a bevy of options for your breakfast, lunch, or dinner, but my personal favorite is the 1/3rd charbroiled burger. It's a generously sized patty: cooked to perfection by the seasoned staff, juicy without overwhelming the bun, and flavorful with or without condiments. I like to get a swirl cone on summer afternoons; during which time you'll most likely encounter a line. But it's always worth it.

Jojn J.

Yelp
1. They charge you for credit card processing and don't mention it anywhere. Thanks for charging me to give you money. Scumbags. 2. Screwed up my order, so I came back in and explained situation. Huffy and puffy moron that made it acted like I ordered the wrong thing, not he screwed the pooch. 3. Gave me the chicken gyro, and plated my food for another woman. Gross!!!!
google avatar

Nickster H.

Yelp
Over priced low quality burgers for being the baron of burgers this meat is not appetizing however, it is cooked over an open flame. The meat just doesn't shine through. I've tried this restaurant several times, giving it a fair chance. Please do not go here.

CM S.

Yelp
Service is excellent. Hot food snd cold drinks brought to your table with courtesy and speed! A nice big TV in the dining area and ample booths! Fast, fresh, hearty and delicious food!
google avatar

Yelp
Food is fabulous!! Great menu and they offer curbside drop-off. Very extensive menu with awesome milkshakes!

Yelp
We love this place. Whether we need a greasy breakfast sandwich or find ourselves too tired to cook or order takeout we call and pop over here for a chicken pita or an Emergency Hotdog. One time they even let me buy a bag of pita off them because I forgot it at the grocery store and had guests coming. A real gem of a place

Yelp
I won't lie: I have driven by "The Baron" maybe 500+ times, and nearly every time I drive by, I swear I'm going to get a burger there sometime next week. Fast forward to the now, and last week I really did go to eat lunch there. And I'll give it this much: if you need to spend $11.60 on a burger, fries and a cup of water, there are many, many worse options out there. The Baron reminds me of Chopper's on Ashland Avenue; it's not date night material, but it is "I'm getting lunch with two guys from work to talk about the game last night" material. The burger was good (not great; and, it's cooked medium well to make sure nobody gets diseased on the thing) and the fries come out perfect, hot and plentiful...I couldn't even finish the half-pound burger plus all of these fries. There is free parking and service was pretty quick. And the booths are clean enough, especially if you are in your blue-collar work clothes (I'm not sure you want to wear your white linen suit here). I'm not sure if this will be in my rotation, but this exceeded expectations for sure!
google avatar

Sonia W.

Yelp
Had a gyro plate with fries and cream of chicken soup. Top notch. Absolutely delicious. Staff were polite and friendly. Followed COVID protocol (I ate in). The side booths have barriers between them. Will return when I have that craving. They take Apple Pay.

Yelp
I live across the street, so I eat here pretty often. Have tried a lot of the food and have really enjoyed it!! There are so many things on the menu. The employees are super friendly and bring the food to your table. Service always seems to be pretty quick. Also the AC is always nice and blasting which has been great during this heat. Only taking one star off because it is just a little bit overpriced for what you get.

Dan C.

Yelp
$17.77 for a Philly cheesesteak with no meat all peppers, onion and cheese. Tables are falling apart, place is a dump!

Barb D.

Yelp
It is a must stop when we come to visit our son. We have tried the burgers, Chicago beef and the gyros. All were very good. The gyro was one of the best we have ever had. The fries were excellent, crispy and hot. The place was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Great place to try.

Jeff R.

Yelp
I arrive at 12:15 not too busy ordering a burger no cheese no onion well done. It took over 25 minutes and the place wasn't that busy when I got there. I watch the guy put the lettuce, ketchup, mustard tomato on the bun. and now he just getting everyone else orders together who came in after me. .finally I said where's my burger and fries he said you requested well done. Then some woman came and gave me my order. 25 minutes well done it looks pretty red to me.

Todd H.

Yelp
The workers here are plain ole rude. I've been here three times and have consistently gotten unneeded attitude from the order takers. I just don't understand why. Decent food but bad, very bad service.
google avatar

Dustin H.

Yelp
The burgers are huge, fresh and delicious. They are also kind of expensive, but you're paying for the quality. Not much more to say about this classic joint. Old school atmosphere, and at least on my visits, friendly service. The parking lot in bag is a huge bonus for an easy in & out lunch break.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
So I have been here twice both times about 7:30am on a weekday before going to work. The first time I really wanted a burger for breakfast so I stopped in for a cheeseburger & fries. It's a step up above fast food and thats about it. The burger lacked flavor and was needing salt & pepper to make it ok, fries were fine. Second time I had an omelette. About the same quality as the burger, overcooked eggs with some basic ingredients, potatoes were ok. So this place has been around for a long time, like when there was no residential around the area and you fed the working class any shift. Would I come here for the quality of food? No. But I would go back because I can get a burger at 7:30am. I do think the prices are a touch high for what you get.

P M.

Yelp
Burger was good cooked medium rare as I asked, but the cheese dog...how do you screw that up? Just melt the cheese. Cheese fries were a little light. Worth a second shot
google avatar

Samuel F.

Yelp
First time ordering from this place always heard great things about this legendary fast food place and extremely disappointed on the small size of gyro plate and fried mushrooms will never order from this place again ‼‼‼ 10 fried mushrooms for 3.50 35 cents a shroom wow ! Stingy f$$$ers‼ Enjoy my $$$

Yelp
In short, this establishment is highly unprofessional. I placed an order for one of my employees for delivery, I provided detailed information. In addition, I personally called the restaurant to ensure they understood the directions. My employee had to wait over an hour for food that ultimately never came. When I called the restaurant for an explanation, I received Zero explanation. They didn't come through on their end, but they had no problem charging my card. I expect a full refund by the end of the week.
google avatar

Ian D.

Yelp
Zero stars. gainst my best judgment I decided to get food from this place. On top of the cashier not knowing items on his own menu. They mis-fired my order and I sat like a schmuck as two customers ordered and received their orders before mine. When I finally stood up to inquire I saw the staff hurriedly warm up my potatoes in the microwave and throw them into my to-go box. Even if drunk, do not come here. Plus even for the $12 I spent on a chicken dinner, I could've done magnitudes better at McDonald's.
google avatar

Yelp
Just got the Greek Chicken wrap 2 days in a row. Everything in it is so fresh and the chicken is nicely grilled. Highly recommend adding extra feta and ordering extra greek vinaigrette on the side. Split pea soup was bomb and French fries & mozzarella sticks both very good. Walked in yesterday, delivery today. Nice and clean inside and ordering delivery straight from their site was easy and came fast. Staff was also nice including delivery guy. Free parking in the back and affordably priced.

Jeff L.

Yelp
Meh, average shitty burger place. Nothing special about it, not good or really terrible. A little expensive for no reason and they don't use poppyseed buns for the hotdogs for some reason. Also, they seem to be open or closed whenever they feel like it. It could be a Wednesday at 3pm and they're closed for some reason

Lindsay M.

Yelp
i went to order my food and I went to the table. It was unsanitary and gross There were stains and gum on the table my food arrived after a hour of waiting i take a bite and i find a string of hair in my food and i look inside and the meat is raw....
google avatar

Eric. P.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch. Ordered a cream of chicken rice soup & this soup tasted really good. It was a big portioned bowl of soup and heck, I could've just had that and would've been satisfied. But what grabbed my attention was that they have a chicken gyro served up like the regular gyro. Yes i said a chicken gyro. I've not seen this anywhere else. This is a1st and its your regular gyro but with chicken. It taste lighter obviously & had all the fixins as the regular gyro which by the way they also have. I found me a new place for gyros and its been here for a long time. On the corner of Noble and Grand. The fries were a little disappointing because they were a tad bit shy of being burnt. But other than that, there is s large menu, the prices are very good and there is enough seating in the dining area to comfortably enjoy whatever meal you choose.
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
still hate this place yet we often eat there at my workplace so I get the one thing I find palatable; the chicken gyros salad. One time I decided to deviate and tried a fish sandwich; it was freezer burned! Disgusting! I had to throw it out and go to McDonald's for a better fish sandwich! (pathetic). Also, why don't they clean/update the disgusting looking place?
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Love this old school place: good food fast for not much! Tried the new chorizo wrap this morning--mmm, good. With a small coffee, $6.50 and no need for lunch!
google avatar

Chad H.

Yelp
This place sucks. The food wasn't great and they complety screwed up our order. But the kicker was how shitty they acted when we just wanted it right. So if I ever go back(which I probably won't)I'm going to treat their staff like shit. What comes around goes around. Do yourself a favor and avoid this spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Burger baron is one of those greasy spoon joints that people go to because it is fast and quick. There's nothing special about this place but there also isn't anything offensive. I go here because it is across the street from my office. If it were not across the street I would never come here. I've only tried the gyro here and it's your typical fast food gyro. It always satisfies the craving but it doesn't do much more than that. It is incredibly greasy though so it occasionally does give me a stomach ache like any overly greasy food would. So definitely keep this food consumption to a minimum. Overall I come here gradually it is fast, easy, and reliable. I wouldn't make a special trip to come out here. I do enjoy the fries here however and they're always very generous with the ketchup packets when you're taking the food to go.
google avatar

Peter K.

Yelp
Great prices, quality is solid, delicious cheese steak. Ice cream sucks, be careful. Overall solid munchie spot.

Rob P.

Yelp
Once again !! BURGER BARON makes a 94 year old Grandmother and Great Smile you make the best burgers and steaks and Philly's that she loves -- Good Job Thank you for being a part of the neighborhood
google avatar

Heidi H.

Yelp
I made an order through Grubhub. When the ordered was received we noticed one burger was made improperly. We called the restaurant and ended up being told we were wrong- the bag they delivered it in had the correct instructions written on it though. I tried resolving through them and they were the RUDEST! I've never seen a restaurant lack customer service to this level.
google avatar

Ivanka B.

Yelp
So having lived in this area my whole life and driven by this place a couple hundred times, my sister and I finally decided to check it out. The burgers were huge and cooked to order (surprising) but the ratio of cheese to meat was saddening - the cheese was undetectable. Also, for some reason the burger just tasted kinda weird to me - maybe it wasn't seasoned enough or it was previously frozen, I'm not really sure but I will not be ordering another one ever again. Maybe I'm just a bit of a burger snob. (Leona's makes fabulous ones on super fresh pretzel rolls!) The sweet potato fries were pretty tasty but needed some salt and the regular fries were pretty good as well.
google avatar

Henrietta R.

Yelp
Occasionally you run into a place like this, and you think: "how the $%^& do they stay in business?". Seriously, this is one of those places that makes a good argument for negative star ratings. First off, this place is filthy and disgusting. It looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years. And you might think "yeah it's a greasy spoon, but it's fast". NOPE. I place an order and it was fifteen, literally 15 minutes before the guy even started cooking my burger. F!! WTH? But for me the biggest problem with this place is just how unwelcoming and inhospitable it is. Clearly none of the people working at Burger Baron want to be anywhere near it. Negative 3 stars. Never, never, never again.
google avatar

Rob R.

Yelp
My office is down the street and we order from this place all of the time. Everything here is very good. My favorite is the bacon burger or the gyros. I usually need to get the pizza puff, which has always been on point! We usually order for take out to our office, and the food stays nice and hot. Thumbs up
google avatar

Niall G.

Yelp
Terrible . We opened up a warehouse around the corner and this seemed to be an option . Somewhat overpriced for a burger . But on two occasions in a row now , " The fries will be right with you" . And on two occasions i have sat and waited until the burger is totally cold . Fool me twice but no business from me in the future .

Grace S.

Yelp
Best fries in Chicago!! Always craving their chicken philly and kabob sticks with Greek potatoes!!! My food has always been made fresh, 10/10 I would recommend this place to all my friends!

Yelp
I've never eaten a turd sandwich, but Burger Baron served me the closest thing to it. My wife's cooking is so much better, and she can't cook to save her life. My trash compactor brother even pushed away his greasy, fatty Italian beef and proclaimed their take on food "egregious". His wife had a chicken sandwich that was too small for the bun and the price. My wife also had a burger, but unlike my turd, hers was like a hockey puck. Last but not least, the fries. Why do they use Marketday French fries? These sham fries were tiny and unseasoned (is it too much to ask for salt on fries?), it's not 500 B.C., salt is not expensive, I don't see Phoenicians using it as currency. I generally don't complain, but this place is terrible. Best part was, the meal only cost $53.27! Sorry, did I say best part? I meant that for $53.27 we could have gone to Gibson's and got a real burger. Please save yourself the gastrointestinal problems and a wad of cash and go somewhere else. Don't patronize this awful place, stay away and hopefully they will go out of business. Unfortunately, I live down the street, and my other option when I'm hungover is the Breakfast Club, another feces-hole with awful food and high prices. Both of those travesties need to cease to exist. I'm sad just thinking about living near them.
google avatar

Ross H.

Yelp
If you have the word "Burger" in your restaurant name, you better have good burgers (just ask Bob Belcher). Unfortunately, when I order a Jalapeno and Cheddar burger, "medium", what I got was a 1/2 lb. flavorless patty cooked to "well-done" with a slice of lukewarm processed mild cheddar and pickled jalapenos that had no flavor or heat. It was edible, but that's about all I can say about it. The fries were cooked well, but I went to a place called "Burger Baron" for the burgers, not the fries. Combined with the "you're-wasting-my-time" mentality of the counter staff, I left with a bad taste in my mouth (and I'm not talking about the burger). Usually, I believe many Yelpers here in the city are overly critical, but in this instance, I feel they are not critical enough. With so many other great options for burgers in Chicago, this place is a hard "pass".
google avatar

Charles S.

Yelp
Big menu and no frills. Food was pretty good. I ordered hotdogs and was disappointed they did not come with peppers even though I ordered them with "everything". Fries were tasty and served in abundant quantity. Decor is pretty interesting. A million years ago, this was a fried-chicken place and it was fun trying to pick out what was original and what was newer. I'm sure the white-with-black tile partition walls date to the original construction. Big seating area for such a small place which is good since I'm sure they do a big lunchtime business during the week.
google avatar

G R.

Yelp
Solid fast food, open till 9:00 p.m too! I think they have one of the best Reuben's around, it's my go to sandwich just about every time. My husband has tried many of the other offerings here with no complaints. So for me it's the Reuben, soup or a chocolate shake. Yup, stick with those!

Yaroslav L.

Yelp
If you call in an order do not expect them to have it ready when you come to pick it up. I showed up, paid and the herd the cashier call out the order to the cooks. It defeats the purpose of me calling ahead. So much for being in a hurry.
google avatar

Zachary H.

Yelp
I usually like this place, the food is usually good but I'm very disappointed today I felt like a gyro plate, for $12 highly disappointed never again, and as discussed overcooked. Next time Zeus in Greek Town for my gyros only.

Yelp
I miss the Baron. Once a month or so, I used to head in for a grilled cheese on rye. No fries. Just that gloriously crunchy-yet-melty grilled cheese. No idea what they did to make it so freakin' good, but man oh man, I used to NEED that sammich. 'Til the day the cute, 20-years-younger, broken-English-speaking cook brought it to my table and sat down with me. He asked if I have a boyfriend. "Yes," I said. (I lied.) He asked if we could go out anyway. "Thanks, but I can't." He asked for just one chance, one date. "I wish, if only I weren't moving." Moving. I told him I was moving. Within seconds, my stomach felt cold and empty, already feeling the absence of any and all future grilled cheeses. By the time he stood up, my beautiful sandwich was soggy. No life left. I still dream about that grilled cheese. I drive by, a single Native-American-style tear running down my cheek. I've considered going in disguise (wig, floppy hat, sunglasses). But deep down inside, I know that this sacrifice -- this extreme sacrifice -- is proper penance for my lies. You still have a chance at that grilled cheese. Take it. Take the grilled cheese.

Yelp
This place is...not good. To be fair, I've only been there once, but on this inaugural visit, I did try the Baron Burger. You would think the signature item would be the one thing the Baron would stake his reputation on. Sadly, I was appalled by the monarch's main dish. What a letdown. The burger was large, but tasteless. The patty was like a white castle patty on steroids. There was not a thing regal about the whole experience, and I spent the rest of the day hoping to pass it out smoothly into the nether regions of the Chicago sewer system. Good day Baron.
