First time I came here, I almost turned around and left after opening the door. I wasn't expecting a dive. Don't get me wrong - dive joints can have great food. I just wasn't expecting it based on the review I had read. I checked the sign outside. Yep, this was the right place.
The burger was cooked just right, and was both huge and delicious. My subsequent trips there were as much to enjoy the food, as to try and figure out what they were doing so I could replicate it at home. I eventually got to where I could make a pretty good knockoff. So it has been a while since I've been to B.I., until today. The main change is in the "decor". The mix-match of chairs that appeared to have been picked up at a variety of garage sales are gone, replaced by a couple of dozen stackable conference-room chairs. At first glance, the tables appear to also match, but are actually the same hodge-podge of tables, but all covered in the same green vinyl. And I counted no less than five different varieties of booth seating. Gotta love it.
The burger was still excellent. However, I once again ordered the onion rings, despite recalling that they're mediocre at best. Hopes for improvement were dashed. They are no better than store-bought frozen rings. Sonny B remains the king of the ring.
So next time you're in the Old Downtown Carrollton area, and you don't feel like eating at Babes or at Sid's Rainbow Grill, come to the Island. Just stick with the French Fries.
