Burgh Island Hotel

We recently stayed at Burgh Island and wanted to share our thanks for such a memorable experience. The hotel truly lives up to its iconic reputation — beautifully restored, unique and full of character — yet never once did it feel pretentious. From the moment we arrived, we felt comfortable, relaxed and genuinely welcomed. The staff were consistently lovely and the atmosphere they created was something quite special. The food was absolutely delicious, which is no small achievement given the size of the party during our stay. Thank you for a truly unforgettable experience.

We had a fantastic stay here, for a murder mystery weekend. A pretty much perfect stay that far exceeded my expectations. The hotel works its art deco heritage really well and looks fantastic. We had a suite with balcony which was clean and spacious. Maintaining the '30s theme, the room only had a bath and no TV which gives pause for thought on the things we take for granted today. The murder mystery was very funny and well executed. The meal was delicious, with impressive service throughout. As Poirot fans it was a privilege to see this genuine location and nice that the hotel put on the Poirot film in which it stars (popcorn included). The staff were delightful, with everyone so helpful throughout. My favourite event was our swim in the Mermaid sea pool followed by a warm up in the sauna afterwards - bliss! Thoroughly recommended and I hope we are able to visit again.

This is the most fabulous place. Particularly if you like the 1920's and are prepared to dress the part. The rooms are beautiful. This is not " just a hotel". It is an experience that is really not like any other. You are on your own island and so if the weather is good it is so amazing. Make an effort to swim in the emerald pool. It can be a bit chilly but it has to be done. Food and staff are brilliant.

We had always wanted to visit here. So on a 4 day Torquay break my wife and our friends actually did. I had booked Afternoon Tea with a quick call a couple of weeks before. We travelled down water filled lanes to get there. The forecast storm living up to its reputation.||On arrival at the carpark we called to be collected. The cars took a number of trips before they were happy to take us. On arrival we were shown to the Nettleford restaurant with great views of the surf. The art deco furnishings are stunning. Service from the twins excellent. Had to box cakes to take back with us. Cocktails after finished a great experience. Thanks to Steve for return trip off the Island and sound directions back to Torquay.

We wanted to visit for years and finally we did. It was everything I thought it would be from the Sea Tractor to the art deco features, whilst the service and attentiveness by the staff was first class. We spent 2 days and walked the island, sat in the sun (very hot) by the mermaid pool in December and watched a storm. I loved it. Had superb food and a few cocktails. Fantastic few days.

Step back in time to experience a historic hotel like no other. The location is simply magical and everything about this iconic place makes a trip worthwhile. It's not cheap but all the staff work so hard to make you feel so special. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are quaint and maybe not to everyone's taste in the modern world. But if you want to experience a truly wonderful weekend away, I'd say go for it. Do it at least once, if you can. If not then I'd say certainly visit for a meal in the beautiful dining room. Or just a visit to the Pilchard Inn and a exhilarating wild walk around the island.

Beautiful Deco hotel famous for Agatha Christie connection and features in the books/TV shows. Exceptional waiter and the lady who greeted us was fantastic. There's a lovely cocktail bar and lounge and the dining room had views across the coast. Being picky, it would be great if there was a bit more variety in the lunch menu and some things we ordered could have been elevated in keeping with the surroundings. Overall a very good experience

We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The outside world disappears as you are immersed in the 1930s. From start to finish, the staff are outstanding, and it all adds up to an unforgettable experience. Truly one of a kind!

Wonderful place,evocative of another more elegant era. All the main rooms are Art Deco. Quite pricey, but wonderful for a special occasion,all the rooms are like being on an Ocean Liner. Links with Agatha Christie. Can only be accessed by tractor at High Tide,quite an adventure
