Burghley House

What a venue! So much history, so much style. We had our work conference here and it was amazing, the staff were attentive and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The food was great, pastries and tea or coffee to start, mini fish and chips or vegetarian option, then charcuteri to finish. I look forward to revisiting to see the house. The most beautiful palace we have ever visited. It is clear that the owners put great effort into ensuring visitors have access to a wealth of information and a truly enriching experience. The part open for sightseeing is absolutely magnificent – stunning ceiling paintings, the enchanting Heavenly Room, the impressive kitchen, and the elegant library hall. From the windows, you can admire the garden, not accessible to visitors, yet captivating with its carefully and imaginatively trimmed shrubs. The park area is vast, with sections available for free walks as well as paid entry. One of the highlights was spotting a herd of deer behind the fence, including two rare white ones. Truly breathtaking!

Burghley House is really impressive and worth seeing. The building itself is huge and full of history, with amazing details inside and out. Walking through the rooms feels like stepping back in time, and there’s so much to look at you could easily spend hours there. The staff were friendly and happy to answer questions, which made the visit even better. Outside views of the house are just as stunning, especially if the weather is good. It’s the kind of place that makes you go “wow” when you first see it.

A beautiful house well preserved and the art and paintings are incredible. However it cost £22 to go in to the house and you only see a small part of the house. Couldn't go up to the very top and missed alot of levels. The garden is nice to explore with all the waterfalls

It's a huge pile of a place with plenty to see, enormous gardens designed by Capability Brown and a wealth of treasures on view. They are a bit economical with the truth regarding where the money actually came from: if truth be told, political fingers were very much in the till several centuries ago. Clearly nothing has changed! To be frank, I found it rather soulless and dark, especially on an autumn day that started somewhat gloomily. You may love it; I have seen country homes that I warmed to a lot more than this.

Amazing country house and well worth a day out. We drove just under two hours each way to get there and the schlep was totally justified. We spent about and hour and a half each in the gardens and house. The entrance price was £22 each on the door. There are a few options for food, including the Orangery restaurant and Garden Café. Food and drink is reasonably priced, good quality and offers plenty of choice. Souvenirs also cheaper than I have come to expect in such places. Parking is ample and located not too far from the house and gardens. The house is stunning. You don't see too much of it as the family is still living there, but what you do so - the State Rooms - are steeped in history and full of incredible treasures including the largest collection of Chinese and Japanese porcelain outside Asia, stunning examples of marquetry and some incredible murals and celling scenes by Antonio Verrio. The Hell Staircase was a highlight for us. There are lots of friendly volunteers and a fantastic audio guide (priced at £3) to help you along. The gardens are expanisive. We wandered the Floral Tapestry, Garden of Surprises and Sculpture Gardens before running off to see the nearby town of Stamford. The gardens were in full bloom in late August and despite this being a summer Saturday, were not brimming with kids. The Garden of Surprises was quirky but not gimmicky, and the other parkland areas were beautiful. All in all, including a lunch stop, we spent a good 4 hours exploring Burghley House and felt this was an exceptional day out. Plenty of things for kids to do too. You should allow time to visit Stamford too; this is a lovely town. All in all, this is a lovely part of the UK!

The House is closed for private functions every Friday & typically, I went on a Friday! 🤦 The walking trails, cafe & shop are still open though & I managed to get a few photos of the outside of the house. It is absolutely stunning & although I may have been able to get some more shots on the other side of the house, it was absolutely sweltering so I contented myself with these & will capture the rest when I can actually visit the property fully at some point. Definitely recommended, just not on a Friday!

One of the best places to visit if you like history. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. And if you talk to them, you can learn a lot more and interesting facts ;)

Great family day out. You can spend a full day here doing the house tour, walking around the grounds and the garden of surprises and sculpture garden, and going to the orangery restaurant or the garden cafe for something to eat. There's also an adventure play park for children. There's often an event or market on here like the famous Christmas market or Burghley horse trials.

It's okay. Very expensive for not great touring. Your ticket gets you into the gardens and house but only a very small portion of the home is available for viewing. In this section there are an astounding number of paintings but most are copies or unattributed. The furniture is beautiful. The gardens are pleasant but garden is a loose term. The best part was the mirror maze and the lake overlook but there were sparse plantings and almost no flowers. The orangery is one food option but the food is incredibly esoteric for a small, over priced cafe. The chicken tenders are a mediocre but safe option. Not impressed, wouldn't go back

Bought the ticket then couldn't enter because I had a headache. Before closing time they wouldn't issue a refund, and basically implied that is was my fault saying they were "sorry". Then they said to go round you still have 30 mins which was pointless because basically everything was closed. And then as a final straw they pointed me toward the exit which was as locked, so I couldn't get out. I explained to them that the whole situation wasn't customer satisfaction and they just said they were "sorry" quite sarcastically this time actually. It was quite humiliating actually and they didn't seem to show any consideration

We didn't actually visit the house (it was closed for the winter), but... We were in Stamford in February, looking for a place to go for a run. Our hotel recommended Burghley Park. We went for a run on a frozen morning, running cross country on the turf around the perimeter. Very beautiful, serene and uncrowded. We really enjoyed our visit. We hope to return again, during summer, to visit the house, too.

This is a very impressive manor in the town of Stamford. I only had about 2 hours to visit but I felt I saw a lot. I guess this home has been used in movies such as Harry Potter and Pride and Prejudice, and a full on Bollywood flick was filmed on site. We took a taxi here and they were able to drop off and pick us up no problem. Tickets get you into the grounds and sculpture garden. The home is typical English Royal decor, 4 post beds, lots of gilded decor and tapestries. Pool table. The map helps and I believe there is an audio tour you could purchase. We were able to take pictures. After visiting the home you could walk to the garden which has a variety of different sculptures. It's not clear what is what on the map. People who didn't want to pay for the home tour were picknicking on the lawn outside the entrance. There is also a gift shop and restaurant on site. I liked the variety of items available for purchase in the gift shop. When I needed a cab back, the security guard was able to secure one for us. Overall, a nice little tourist attraction in this quaint town.

"Oh the fireplace at Rosings Park!" I must admit the Burghley House rounded out the end of a Jane Austen Fan Girl trip that included visiting several great houses mentioned in the books and used in the films. While all were simply breathtaking, Burghley House was immediately my favorite. Not only is it majestic and stunning, it manages to stay warm and feel like a home. There is something magical about the place and it's grounds. The audio tour is pitch perfect. It's informative, humorous and not too long. It gives you options to learn more if you want or to move on. The docents in each room are amiable and eager to discuss the fascinating history of the home with you. And yes... the FIREPLACE! Everything about Burghley was delightful. And you will want to go back again and again.

So in all my time at Harlaxton, I had never been to Burghley House... it was time. It was a beautiful day to go. The coach dropped us off and getting the group tickets at the desk was fairly easy. The staff in some of the rooms were very good about answering questions that our students had. I get no flash photography, but I don't understand no photography at all... The photography 'license' does irk me a bit, but at least you have the option to take pictures. Anyway, the house is lovely and so are the gardens. Not sure about the water features of the 'Gardens of Surprise', but the children that were running around definitely loved it! Work BFF and I decided to have tea and a cake at the cafe. We went to the Orangery Restaurant. I had a brownie and a pot of the darjeeling tea. The brownie was really nice and we had the option to sit outside in the sun. Overall it is a wonderful afternoon out... both for the grown-ups and the children.

1 mile from Stamford and 10 minutes north of Peterbourough on the A1. I took the bus. On the return trip you have to stand at the edge of the road across the street. Make sure to ask the bus driver before you get off for correct instructions. The house and grounds are worth the trip. Most of the grounds are open, but little of the house is open. They do not allow any photos inside the house. The family spend little time in residence.

We went for a walk here about a year ago and took the opportunity to explore the Sculpture Gardens. There were quite a few sculptures that took our interest -- and that of our children too, which was surprising given that they were only 4 and 2 at the time! But we could definitely recommend the place as a somewhere good to burn off a few calories. Sadly we didn't have time to explore the rest of the estate or the House itself, but if we're in the area again we would certainly want to do so on the evidence of what we've seen so far.

Burghley House is fantastic. It's the setting for numerous films (Pride & Prejudice, bits of Harry Potter etc), and rightly so as the house is in great condition in the Lincolnshire/Cambridgeshire countryside. Burghley House is on the edge of the historic town of Stamford, and fits right into it's surroundings. The house has open land for acres around for visitors to explore, play cricket on, or simply watch the deer. The house itself is slightly pricey to enter, but provides plenty of interesting views and information to keep everyone entertained. Definitely recommended if visiting this area

To be honest whatever i can say about Burghley House is probably superfluous. What i can say is that whatever they do, they do it really really well. Its a classy place, obviously the surroundings are absolutely beautiful, but more than that everything they do is tasteful - if that sums up images of kenny everett then stop right now ! Seriously, from the food at the Orangerie - fabulous (not cheap) but fabulous ! through to the garden of surprises... a treat ! i guess i would say that its a place for wondering, exploring, eating, drinking and spending some quality time - or just lounging on the grass and wondering about what all those deer think about ? Actually we had our xmas party here one year (brilliant night if you're interested) and when we came out for "carriages" all the deer were watching us, their eyes reflecting in the mist and the cars headlights - it was magical !

Burghley house is an astouding place. The ground are lovely the house inside is amazing. The food they server in the Orangery is tasty.
