Airlines Are Trying to Cut Service to Small Airports During Coronavirus

Google
The Burlington Airport would have scored five stars except for the $4.49 Kind candy bar that I purchased at the gate. The Airport is easy to navigate. Rental cars are readily available in the parking garage. After hours car return in is a snap. The airport is in the midst of a major expansion, so I'm hoping it will only get better. $4.49 for a candy bar is a bit much; it makes one wonder who is on the take in this deal.

Google
It’s a small cute airport. I saw about 8 gates in boarding area. There are some restaurant and shops before and after security. The check-in area is also next to baggage claim and rental car desks. The crew is efficient, we disembarked within couple of minutes of landing and baggage handling was also done in 10 minutes. The airport is mostly clean. Saw a lot of construction going on. Lots directions and signs available for each area/section. They have a skywalk from terminal to parking lot, very convenient for picking up rental cars.

I traveled from Vermont back to Florida from Burlington International Airport back in August 2024. It was my first time at this airport & I did my research ahead of time. I chose to fly early in the morning so the airport was super quiet with little to no passengers or staff (looking around). Security was fast as I was the only one along with 2 other people but it did feel like the security was slightly judging us as they kept whispering to themselves looking at the passengers & back to each other. Getting food at The Skinny Pancake was super easy early in the morning & was super fresh. I had a batch of the Fried Cheese Curds & a cup of lemonade & everything was fantastic. Lots of places to charge electronics & wonderful views. Sadly I wish my flight hadn't broken down on the runway causing me to miss my connecting flight back home to Florida but I understand things happen. Also the American Airlines attendant who helped me find another flight (my first day at the airport after having to spend 2 quick days at the airport due to a storm in Florida cancelling my flight back home from Vermont causing me to stay an extra week) was so helpful & I hate that I didn't catch her name!

Google
Very small airport. It has 2 levels with total 15 gates. We arrived and departed at level 1. There were 8 gates. Literally no wait at check in and drop off. TSA lines are mix between pre check and regular because it’s such a small airport. At the gates, there are souvenir shop and The Skinny Pancake (famous? It’s just crepes?) for food. No fancy lounge. But they have a kids zone and game zone. It’s great to kill some time while waiting for the flight.

Visiting my brother in Grand Isle led me to the Skinny Pancake, located airside at the BTV terminal in Burlington, Vermont. Arrived with a seamless experience through TSA (it has Pre-Check but not CLEAR), I had time for breakfast and a pre-flight G&T. Abi was bar side. Herself a world traveler, she represented the absolute best in both bartending and Vermont humanity. As she met each patron with poise and courtesy, she was attentive and engaging. My experience at the bar was matched by what I found in the airport. BTV is transforming into a destination location. Go there with kids - they will love it! There was a giant chess set, giant dominos, foosball, table tennis, and more. There were quiet spaces for nursing, and a room just for toddlers – airy, safe, and clean. I found more than ample seating with power outlets nearby. Although I know of it only through the BTV website, I understand the airport participates in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program, to encourage inclusivity, acceptance and understanding. I learned that the program offers a simple tool for you to share that you have a hidden disability voluntarily. Simply by wearing the Sunflower, you’re just letting everyone know that you might need extra help, understanding, or just more time.

As a frequent flyer and Vermont resident, I do not have many options on my return airport. Following landing on every single flight the past year, regardless of the time, the plane has sat on the tarmac for 30 minutes or more. I strongly suggest BTV Airport management hire more ground crew and practice more efficient protocols to allow travelers to deplane quicker.

Google
Wonderful City with great coffee... The airport however had 3 restaurants all managed by the same vendor. Only three. One vendor. Today, unfortunately the espresso machine was down at both cafes past the security. Please bring on other vendors, if only to offer coffee. I suggest you reach out to kru.

Google
For a small airport, the airport is updated and has a lot of nice touches for families waiting for planes with a Kid Zone or a space for the kids to romp around, a Game Zone with big games to play, rocking chairs, an art gallery, gift shop, and a good restaurant/bar - the Skinny Pancake with all day breakfast and several good crepe-centric dishes plus burgers and fries. The Rental Car area is on the first floor, across from baggage claim and you need to take the elevator upstairs to go the garage to get your car. The main upstairs hallway to the gates is rather small and narrow, I thought we accidentally wondered into a business building instead of still being in the airport.

Yelp
Burlington Vermont epic airport the outside of burlington airport is awesome and also is super small and clean

Katie N.

Yelp
Super tiny airport. Eat before coming here as depending on your flight, the restaurants will be closed! Airport was clean. Plenty of bathrooms.

Meghan O.

Yelp
I wish I would've taken more pictures. This airport might be small, but it has so much character. There were plenty of lounge areas - plus an area just for toddlers/kids. Which that can be an ultimate score especially for those traveling with little ones. It was cool while I was waiting to board my flight - I got to enjoy watching flights take off and land on the runway. The food and coffee shop selections seemed pretty nice - I chose to skip bc I wasn't in the mood for it, but will try next time I'm here. But for you traveling through BTV, it's a cozy little airport with plenty of character! I hope you enjoy it, too!

Yelp
Despite being a smaller airport, BTV offers amenities of a larger one, including a free yoga/meditation room, kids play area, free library, a curated art collection, local Native American exhibition, ample seating and updated amenities. Overnight parking is $12 a day and most rental agencies are in operation at the airport. Baggage arrives in an incredibly timely manner, and there's rarely a line at security. The one-star deduction is due to the limited availability of flights, limited restaurants (one, to be exact), and the limitation of services during relatively early "after hours," such as rental counters. Pro tip: Despite security being a breeze, BTV requires check in at least an hour before departure and 90 mins if you plan to check baggage. They don't waiver, and many an uninformed traveler, self included, has been stranded as a result.

Yelp
I had an early flight this morning from BTV to CLT, and this is a very small airport in Burlington, Vermont. The airport is pretty small and their TSA process was seamless this morning. All of the airport staff were very cheerful, considering it was a brisk 20 degrees outside. The airport is very clean and well maintained to a high standard of cleanness. This airport doesn't offer much for restaurant options if you've got a long layover, so I'd recommend you to pack a few snacks for flight. My overall experience was pretty flawless, and I'm sure that I'll fly again to or from BTV.

Allegra C.

Yelp
Everything about this airport from its service to its "renovations" is abysmal. I've been awaiting for 18 years to see this improve and has not. For a state that relies on out of state business people to prop the economy, you'd really think the ingress/egress would be considered..

Dallas A.

Yelp
As far as international airports go, Burlington is on the small side: there are only about 15 total gates at this airport. So while the amount of flights offered is limited, the speed at which you can get through security and get to your gate is much faster than at bigger airports, which I love. It seems as though there are only two restaurants in the airport (the same in each wing), which is Skinny Pancake (a crepe and breakfast place) and a bakery/coffee shop. I wish there were more places to grab a bite before the flight, but this what you get with a smaller airport. Overall, easy getting to and from the airport from both the Burlington and Essex Junction areas--I'd fly through here again.

Anonymous G.

Yelp
This place was a ghost town so it wasn't hard getting to the one of like 5 gates... the overall layout of the airport and terminal makes no sense. People are so unfriendly but this is a common trend for Vermont. I'll fly out of Plattsburgh, Albany, Manchester, Portland, or Boston over this dump. Also, if you're looking for food, the one place in the terminal wasn't open.

Ravon H.

Yelp
One of the smallest airports I have ever been to. I had to fly in for a work conference being held in Burlington, so this was the closest airport. There are limited flights, and not many airlines that fly in to this airport. I am surprised it's considered an international airport. On my flight out I arrived at 3:30 AM. The TSA check did not open until 4 AM. They only had one entrance for TSA not like most large airports that will have several. It was pretty slow through because there was a substantial line before they opened. But once it started moving, it went quickly. They did not have a CLEAR kiosk or separate entrance so you would have to wait through the main line. They do have TSA pre-check but that line was just as long as the regular line. Was through the TSA checkpoint, it was a very short walk to the gate area. At 4 o'clock in the morning, there was nothing open. I would recommend grabbing something to eat before you come to this airport because there is not much in the terminals for dinning options.

Yelp
Before I retired, I was the ultimate road warrior and have traveled to all fifty states. I've been to dozens upon dozens of airports, all the big ones many times. Most folks would consider me an airport expert. I was visiting some friends and rolled into here for maybe the 4th or 5th time over many years. This is one of the smallest international airports in the country. The international moniker is kind of a joke only because they have a few flights to Canada! You need to manage your expectations when you visit a tiny airport. You can't compare them to the big guys like my home airport of Orlando. It's like comparing apples to kumquats! The Experience- Very fine as long as you are there during prime time! If you have an hour before you board your next plane, and need to stretch your legs, you could walk the entire airport. It might take the entire hour if you walk reeeeeeal slow and stop for a drink along the way! TSA is just fine, and rental cars are right there. Food & Drink- Very limited but gets the job done. Vermont is maple syrup country so you can get a very special cheeseburger and fries. The burger uses maple syrup instead of ketchup as a condiment and the fries are also drizzled with it! As you are shuddering with revulsion, I want you to know that I'm lying! I just wanted to mess with you! Downsides- I think there are two. First, they aren't prepared for the occasional crowd. If there is some event in town, the place goes to hell pretty quick. Second, there are so few people that most retail closes very early. If you arrive very early or very late good luck eating or drinking! All in all, I like the place and it's a four star experience for me!

Meg T.

Yelp
This airport is small but that's what makes it great honestly. After our terrible experience in BOS, having a car rental return that was on location and essentially drive up and park was amazing. Check in for our car was super easy, and the terminal had chairs with working plugs and coffee and snacks for sale. Even though it doesn't appear to have a lounge, all in all, would definitely recommend flying into BTV.

Amy C.

Yelp
TSA agents and airport airline staff on unnecessary power trips. Why do I need to rush though the screening when there is no line? Only airport in the world where I have to remove my shoes with TSA pre check. Only airport iwhere I have airline staff continuously trying to force me to check my computer backpack at the gate until I demonstrate that it easily fits under my seat. The Only BTV airport experience that is always pleasant is the Skinny Pancake

Kelly D.

Yelp
This is the friendliest and most laid-back airport I have ever been to. They also have a therapy dog , Ellie Mae was at our gate, who comes to the gate before your flight to help with any anxiety/fear! The handler for the therapy dog told us they are building a special area where people will be able to go in and pet therapy animals before the flight! Anywhere I can pets dogs is a good place to be!

Christina R.

Yelp
This airport is weird and I love it. It's a small airport, able to support smaller airplanes. I don't know when it was built but I think it's one of those places you can tell was built before September 11th and hasn't been remodeled in a significant way since (and to confirm, I just googled and apparently there's an expansion that opened/is opening this year.) I say this because the way to get between the north and south terminals was cuckoo crazy. You go through doors and hallways that do not look like you're supposed to go through them to enter this labyrinth like shipping container bridge thing. We truly thought we were being punk'd. But we had to do it to get to the only open Skinny Pancake (of the three locations) in the airport. Other than that, there are many a rocking chair and plenty of places to sit while you wait for your plane. The art in this place is great. It was the first time my bf ever had to walk out onto the tarmac instead of using a jet bridge and it scared the living death out of him to walk outside without warning (which I found so funny and so endearing) but overall, nice airport.

Catherine M.

Yelp
This is a nice airport EXCEPT be aware there is few dining choices (even Providence airport was way better!) VERY small place!

Roger Y.

Yelp
Yeh! The much needed renovation at the TSA security check area is finally in use. There are 3, count them 3, lanes open at 4:45 am. All the scanners are Analogic CT scanners which means no need to remove any electronics from your belongings going through security. Bumping BTV up to 3 stars. The gate area and food options can use a refresh too.

Dave K.

Yelp
Arrived at the airport 2 hours before boarding figuring we could grab a bite to eat at the Restaurant by gate 9. Wrong. Ordered our food and waited 1.5 hours and nothing came out. Seat before you come.

Paul L.

Yelp
I've flown into BTV before, but I really couldn't tell you when it was, or the occasion - may very well have been another ski trip. Recently, when I went to Stowe for my only ski trip this season via Plattsburgh, NY, I had the occasion to be at BTV under pretty unexpected circumstances. My rental car had developed a frightening shake when it goes anything over 60 m.p.h. When I called Budget, they weren't really helpful - said I need to be at at an actual rental location for them to do anything. So off I went on a blustery day when conditions were too shabby for enjoyable skiing. After I exchanged cars, I decided to while away a bit of time at the airport instead of hurrying back. It's a quaint little regional airport (don't let the 'International' fool you :-D). Currently, I believe only AA, DL JetBlue, United, and Frontier fly there. It has the usual upstairs/downstairs set-up. If you take the time to explore a little (which most travelers don't get to do unless they are the "arrive-3-hours-early" type), you'll find this to be a charming little spot to spend a few idle minutes. Besides the overall impression that it's open, airy, and a very pleasant space, I'll let my photos do the talking (I think 42 breaks a record for me!). In addition to the native American museum and a lot of aviation photos and paraphernalia, they even had some art on display! Oh and they had cool face masks to give away when you exit from airside to landside upon arrival! It was an afternoon well spent for me. P.S. I'm having trouble uploading my photos - so, pls bear with me. Not sure if it's a Yelp problem or Paul problem...

Jd H.

Yelp
Parking Garage is a MESS No attendants when you exit. If you want to pay by cash, you have to use machine inside terminal. Unfortunately both machines in terminal will only take cards. Cash function is "out of order". ALSO: Many floors are blocked off, but with no explanation as to why. I suppose it's to "improve our parking experience". I am skeptical of that. The airport does a terrible job of publically explaining why things are changing

Terry R.

Yelp
My flight is late & nothing is open. No vending machines, nothing for customers at all! I'm diabetic & need something. I ate all I had hours earlier. Grrrrr. Very disappointed in this airport.

Flyguy G.

Yelp
Update. Since my review, they have been doing construction and updating. There still are (imo) long waits at the more centralized security. Waiting for luggage during late night arrivals can still take much longer than it should, depending on the airline. I think these various delays are due to understaffing, which is common these days.

Alexander B.

Yelp
Small and easy to navigate airport. Nothing fancy but clean and very walkable. Parking and rental car lots are literally two steps away.

Bill B.

Yelp
I fly a lot of miles domestically and I have to say that the TSA at this airport has to be the rudest group of people (except for the one that searches BOTH of my bags). While I feel like I am not an overly entitled flyer, I do prepare myself for the expectation that is set. Prior to flying here I checked the TSA website to see if BTV offered pre-check and the site stated that it did and made no mention of hours. I arrived at about 830 am for a 1030 am flight and they don't offer normal precheck but just expedited screening. I had to step out of line and hold people up that we're in line behind me because I was not prepared (my issue for sure). While that was frustrating enough the screener and the line officer decides to have a conversation about entitlement when it comes to precheck passengers right in front of me. Rude yes but also disrespectful. I did not make a huge deal out of it I just questioned it once. When he said that they only operate full precheck in the early morning I dropped it. They didn't. Both of my bags were pulled which has never happened and with over 20 flights since the first of the year and with no packing changes he pulled both bags. Curious to be sure. If you have precheck and fly out of Burlington then you want to take an early flight out of town. The rest of the airport is great. Friendly people And very convenient.

Yelp
I dread flying to this airport, which is unfortunate as my family lives in Vermont and this is the easiest way to get to them. Overcrowded, outdated, chaotic. Choose your adjective. This place has been poorly managed for as long as I've been alive. My main reason for writing this review is not to gripe, however, but to warn travelers that when they tell you to get there early they aren't joking. Check in is a mess due to staffing shortages and the smallness of the ticket counter area. TSA also closed the north security check point (for United and American Airlines) so everyone has to go through the south checkpoint. This requires you to thread your way carefully through the check in lines, which commonly block entry and exit in the airport main area. BTV claims a new check point will open this fall. Right now you need to go through the south check point and walk down a large makeshift hallway that eventually leads you to the north side of the airport. In the meantime traveler beware and pack your patience. This is a tiny airport consumed with the kind of gridlock I typically associate with much larger airports.

Aaron K.

Yelp
Amazing place to fly from its clean and has a bottle arcade game and the service is amazing

Glenn C.

Yelp
Small airport of 12 gates. Easy to get in and out. Close by rental cars. Few shops. Only 12 flights a day. Going back was a joke. Had to go thru TSA by united in other terminal and loop back thru closets to get to our teminal for Delta which has 4 gates. Our TSA gate was closed. Our Delta gate agent missed that part qhen she told us to go upstairs. Signs led us downstairs and then we saw closed sign.

Wynn R.

Yelp
I sincerely hope this airport has improved. I flew in and out of Burlington in Oct 2022. What a mess. No matter the area, it was woefully understaffed, resulting in ridiculously long lines and waits. On arrival early in the afternoon on a Saturday it took and hour and a half for baggage to be unloaded to the carousel. No matter, the rental car pickup line (for a prepaid vehicle) was just as long since only one person was working, even though the rental company has information regarding how many cars they have rented and the incoming flight arrival times. The airport was dark and dirty, including the restrooms. My departure a week later was a 6am flight. Surely arriving for a domestic flight departing from a small airport at 3:40am would be early enough? I know that was the time I arrived since I time stamped my rental car contract when I dropped it off. I had checked in on line the night before, but had to check a bag (bad plan, I know. But had a shoulder injury.) I got in line at the airline counter at 3:48, a full 2 hours and 12 minutes before my flight, simply to check my bag. Again, a single employee at the desk. 58 minutes later (!) with my bag finally checked, I joined the chaos at TSA. 5 lines, but they only opened 3. And at one of those, the TSA agent seemed to only randomly and occasionally choose to take people in line he wanted to check through instead of alternating with the other two lines. No TSA pre check. And no sense of urgency. There were more employees watching people working than those working. A LOT of observing and chatting. Not much working. And a LOT of passengers attempting to get to their flights by this time. For those pulled aside for further evaluation, there was a separate line with a single machine and one agent. They have another machine, but when we asked we were told that despite all the people observing, no one could operate the other machine. Of my 2 hours and 12 minutes, I spent 58 in the airline bag check fiasco, leaving me 1 hour and 14 minutes to get through TSA. This is a small airport. Surely I still will make my 6am flight. And the observers all laughing and joking as we passengers became more and more nervous when the lines crawled along had the gall to say " oh those flights won't leave you once you've gotten to this point!". Of course they will, and they did when that TSA logjam took 1 hour and 18 minutes. By the time I ran to the gate it was 6:10 and the flight was gone. The gate agent actually told me and the 20(!) other people who missed the flight that we should have been at the airport 2 hours ahead. Ha! 2 hours and 20 minutes at 3:40 in the morning wasn't early enough when they don't staff appropriately and have no sense of urgency. And clearly didn't care. We couldn't even get a cup of coffee since nothing was even open yet. Had to wait several hours and was booked through on a different flight through Laguardia instead of back through Atlanta, but at least I got home. But I will never fly through Burlington again. Never. Will go through Manchester NH, or Boston and then drive before dealing with that level of incompetence again.

Christopher T.

Yelp
This is a cool older airport that has been modernized, the have clean bathrooms and a laid back feel. Not many food options but they few they have are good. Seating is cramped near the gates. They have wide open spaces in above areas before the gates.

John M.

Yelp
The airport at Burlington, Vermont is a smaller airports. Easy to navigate I'm relatively no hassles. Being a smaller airport, there's not a lot of the amenities that you would see at a larger airports, but the main goal at an airport is to jump on a plane. Unless you are arriving, then it is to depart on an airplane.

Robin P.

Yelp
In spite of the renovations that are happening in the terminal the success of getting the passengers checked in and on their flights on time was outstanding ! I flew Delta Airlines and I had no problems and was treated with a friendly manner by all!

Mary R.

Yelp
Burlington is a super cute tiny airport. I arrived 2 hours early not knowing that I was arriving during a service lull, flying out around 10am. It took me all of 20 minutes to return my rental, check-in, and go through security. Bonus: the TSA was super nice here. The bathrooms are clean, there is one gift shop, and one coffee/hot food place. It is all good. Extra bonus was the wooden rocking chairs that were super comfy. Fair warning: You will have to listen to Classic Rock but I am beginning to think this is all airports are allowed to play. *shrugs* Thanks, Burlington Airport for being so small and kind.

Brandi E.

Yelp
Worst airport (if you can call it that) in the United States. Restaurants close by 5 or 6pm, stores close by 6:30. My flight was delayed by 8 hours and there was no where to get food or drinks. This whole city/town sucks.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Small airport. Easy to get in and out of. Rental cars are right on site. There are only two luggage carousels, so it's easy to find your bag. The airport itself is very clean, and employees are helpful and friendly. I enjoyed the crêpe restaurant and having a craft beer while I waited for my departing flight. There was a shop making waffles that smelled amazing!!! There are some cute souvenir shops as well. Bathrooms are clean. They also have TSA pre-check. There isn't much nearby. It's situated in a residential area. There are lots of windows to view the snow. Not a bad place to fly in and out it if you're trying to ski in the Vermont area.

Jim H.

Yelp
I love small airports. No crowds, security lines take about 5 minutes, and each airport has some local personality. Granted, there's only one place to get grub - a pancake stop with some tasty local maple syrup - but it's a decent place to hang out if your flight was delayed like mine was. Oh yeah, and that one restaurant is great! First off, they serve breakfast all day. They also have a nice crepe menu. In any other airport, a crepe restaurant would have a line going clear though the terminal. No lines here. (Small airport, remember?) The rocking chairs are a nice touch! I wish I had a rocker app on my phone to tell me how many times I rocked. There's a room dedicated to yoga classes. Yeah you read that right. My dog is already downward, so I passed on that, but still pretty chill.

Tom H.

Yelp
This is a small airport and you get through quickly if you arrive early. The airport is so small you don't have to get on a tram car or a bus but you easily can reach your gate in a matter of minutes. The weird thing is the rental car drop off. At most places I have been to, there is normally an attendant who checks your rental. Here, you have to remember your miles and the gas tank level. I didn't know so after I parked the car and I had to walk back to see what the mileage was. In case you are wondering, I rented from Hertz and had no problem. Quick and easy. Also there were no rental car attendants for early flights so the rental car companies are saving some money by not having anyone there during these early hours. None of the rental car agencies had anyone present.

Carrie S.

Yelp
The agents checking Id and boarding passes at the Gate were extra rude. Why is it necessary to treat passengers this way?

Gil G.

Yelp
I usually don't do Yelp reviews of airports (what difference does it make?), but I just had to say something about this one. Next to our own airport in Greenville, SC I think this is one of the prettiest and most functional I have been to ... and I know of what I speak ... I'm CEO of a tourism business. However, what made the difference are the people. Vermonters are known to be super friendly and welcoming but our experiences here proved that point. The gate attendants were terrific both arriving and departing. The rental counter folks were hilarious and helpful (fast too). Even the food vendors were great.

Joe M.

Yelp
So easy to get in and out of this airport. TSA in and out. Could use a couple more places to eat, but I liked it.

Steven H.

Yelp
This airport make The Bill and Hillary Clinton airport in Little Rock look good. Easy access gives this place 1 star. After security, there are a confusing maze of hallways to negotiate to find your gate. There is 2 restaurant ( the skinny pancake) in 2 locations. One takes no cash (except tips) because they have no drawer. The other one is packed because that's all there is after 4. You can't log on to the "free" Wi-Fi unless you first login to facebook,LinkedIn,or Twitter. Then they tell you they will use your data and if you disagree then no Wi-Fi. If you do agree, then you get on and if you go to YouTube all the comments are blocked. A truly communist Airport. No free speech. They need to rename this the Bernie Sanders airport.

Lily F.

Yelp
This is the most adorable little airport ever. I've been to small airports before, but this is just too cute to give it any less than a perfect rating. First there are cow pictures welcoming you to VT. Come on, that's like tots adorbs! And while this airport only have a few gates and not a whole lot of options going on for dining and shopping, everything was insanely easy to get through. Parking was easy, check-in was easy and security? Fo-get-about-it! What's important is that there are clean restrooms, bottle water refill station, and a small bar and shop if you need your last fill of Heady Topper or something with maple syrup in it.

Jack H.

Yelp
Small and functional, it's very nice to have international travel out of a little city like Burlington. Flights can be a little pricy, and the food selections are limited.

Katy C.

Yelp
What a cute airport! BTV is super charming and reminded me a lot of another tiny airport I love (Jackson, WY). We got there way too early and made it through security in less than 10 minutes. There was a short line due to the limited number of screening machines, but still, super quick. Another thing that's great about tiny airports are the TSA employees, who are much friendlier than in large airports. There is only one restaurant past security (and it's the same as the one before security); Skinny Pancake. They serve breakfast all day and have a bar, so what more do you need? They also have one small gift shop with some souvenirs (we got maple syrup, of course), Keurig coffee, snacks, magazines, the usual. The gates are small and all packed in together, so I imagine it gets pretty busy during peak times. There is a private lactation pod, a giant jug of maple syrup for photo ops, and a stand giving out samples of liquor. Dear BTV, I love you.

Yelp
I flew in and out of Burlington International Airport earlier this month. I don't usually Yelp airports, but this place was exceptionally charming. Small and cozy with a lot of Vermont spirit. The terminal was clean and pretty, with plentiful seating and outlets at the handful of gates. It looks like the place was renovated in the last few years, and it felt very pleasant and comfortable. There was some cool art on view, including a steampunky elephant sculpture. There were adorable rocking chairs and wide, clear views of snowy Burlington. Even the depressing factoid display about the opioid crisis--apparently severe in New England, and in Vermont in particular--was nicely presented. BTV was also just easy to get through, with all the convenience I hope for at a small airport. Baggage claim was fast, and I liked that the rental car area was in the airport. On the departure side, check-in was quick, and it took no time to get through security. We arrived early for our return flight only to learn that it was delayed an hour due to technical difficulties, but we weren't even that mad about it. We ate a good lunch at The Skinny Pancake and waited at our neat little gate, taking note of the numerous announcements sent over the PA, keeping us apprised of the situation. I don't know when I'll be in Vermont again--it is a pain to get to from California--but I had a lovely time on this trip, my first visit to the state. Even the airport left a good impression. BTV wasn't just convenient. It was positively sweet.

Yelp
Probably one of the smallest airports I've ever been to -- I'm a Los Angeles native who typically has to fly into a layover at either New York City, Chicago, Newark, or Washington D.C. -- this airport therefore makes me feel the comfort and care of a Vermont small town the moment I get off the plane/enter the airport for departures. TSA is always friendly and speedy, likely due to the smaller and close-knit feel from the community of Vermont. As a testament to their sincere (almost naive) kindness: I went on an alternative February break trip last year, when a member of our volunteer group had left her passport back in her dorm because, of course, something would go awry at 3AM. She however was still allowed to fly on the plane, granted that she be able to access her passport somehow (it got mailed to her in St. Louis thankfully). If that isn't Vermont TSA for you! We don't get many options for flying since this airport is small (no Virgin America or Southwestern) but JetBlue, Delta, United, and American are all at home here in Burlington Airport. You'll find several college students flying in and out of this airport for various breaks, namely winter break and summer break. Middlebury students gather among themselves whilst UVM students among themselves, and it's always some sort of strange situation for me to observe; there is some tension but I can't quite make it out exactly. And of course, I'm not always happy to see my fellow Midd Kids here because I still find Middlebury College to be ridiculous! I still remember my first time landing at this airport for preview days (visiting Middlebury College campus) - it felt so surreal being in such a small airport in the middle of a very rural state (compared to home in Los Angeles). Now, it has become practically second nature to me. My only constantly arising issue is finding a way to get back to Middlebury College campus without a hitch (especially with horrid weather conditions), but typically there are various cab and bus options available. Now, I am flying out to go home again and I kind of miss the smooth flow of this airport.

Yelp
The smallest airport I've been to. I was close to missing the check in time, but was able to fly through security and still make it because there's no one in line waiting. There's only one terminal and about 6 gates I want to say? Because of the size, there's only one restaurant and one shop in the airport which seems to be okay. Staffs, TSA, and everyone else were really friendly.

Yelp
Having a rating in mind prior to looking at the histogram of reviews, I knew I would zero in on the ball park with my rating and review of Burlington International Airport, or BTV. Also, it definitely is international in scope, being some 40 miles south of the Canadian border and about an hour and a half by car from Montreal. I have flown in and out of here, taken a bus here, and rented cars here over the years. BTV works well on all levels. BTV is a nice, clean airport sitting in a nice neighborhood and verdant setting not too far from the University of Vermont campus. Because there's not a tremendous amount of activity here, check in, TSA, and baggage claim tend to move quickly. People can come pick you up curbside without the constant hassling one would find at LAX or other gridlocked airport. There is a large parking structure across the road which is connected to the airport by an enclosed elevated walkway over the roadway. Can you spell Minneapolis? Also, the rental car facility is located mostly within the parking structure, with the rental counters being near baggage claim. Because it's about public contact and being the face of Burlington, and possibly Vermont, the attitude and caliber of service here is better than what it would be in and around Burlington. This has been the case each and every time. And, since most flights into and out of BTV are regional and shorter, a window seat flying in and out can provide scenic views over Lake Champlain and the surrounding countryside. The majors fly in and out of BTV, with United connecting you to Newark and Chicago, Delta connecting you to Atlanta and Detroit, and American connecting you to Philadelphia and Chicago, at the very least. Also, low cost Jet Blue connects BTV to New York-JFK. And there are probably seasonal nonstops to Florida. Note that I've omitted Boston. That's because there are no flights between Burlington and Boston. Most people don't know why. For that, there is Greyhound, and the Burlington, Vermont stop/station IS the airport. It's a bus schedule that operates between Montreal and Boston, stopping at Burlington (BTV) en route. If you must fly to or from Boston, you can do so from Plattsburgh, NY, located across Lake Champlain. Because of limits inherent with its smallness, the elimination of some routes, such as United shelving BTV-CLE, and potential weather issues, I'll cap it off at 4 stars for Burlington International Airport. I will say, though, that BTV is easily more attractive and more pleasant than most other smaller airports I've been to.

Yelp
This is an international airport but one of the smallest if not THE smallest I can recall. That's good in that it's easy to get a rental car, parking and a short walk to bag claim and taxis or to get to a gate. There are 15 gates total so even getting to gate 15 was a quick 3 minute walk past TSA check point. There are not many restaurants in here and it's lacking plugins for electronics. So for that it's lacking but in reality, I don't know if there are tons of connections through here and my hunch is the bulk of the flights are coming in or leaving out so the bulk of people here just arrived and didn't get off a plane where they played games for 3 hours and their phone is dead. The gates have a good amount of seating. I have seen more cramped airports and I've seen some with more seating but I didn't see many people standing so I'd say it's sufficient. I have some work here so I'll be in and out every month for the next few months and if my opinion changes I'll update the review. Enjoy!

Yelp
Note - My experiences at this airport were both outside peak hours, so my experience might be slightly skewed. I landed here at midnight or maybe even 1am, about 3-4 hours late due to Charlotte weather. The airport was fairly empty of course, but I was pleased to find the car rental area was still staffed. Keep in mind the car rental area is downstairs with baggage claim and it's about a 10 minute walk to get to your car from there. Fairly painless arrival experience. The airport is definitely small. ------- Flying out I arrived at 4am or so for my 6am flight. No one at car rental then so I had to key drop and head to the ticketing area for my boarding pass. I will note that in the dark in an unfamiliar area it was slightly difficult to find the car rental return entrance. As expected at 4am security was pretty empty and easy to breeze through. But it was a very tightly cramped security area and if there are many people, I could imagine this area would feel claustrophobic! I was of course starving when I got through security and nothing was open. Around 5am things began to open with very long lines so I went to the gift shop instead and bought water and a sandwich there. The area I was in had about 8 gates, with the furthest one being about a 4 minute walk from security.
