Having a rating in mind prior to looking at the histogram of reviews, I knew I would zero in on the ball park with my rating and review of Burlington International Airport, or BTV. Also, it definitely is international in scope, being some 40 miles south of the Canadian border and about an hour and a half by car from Montreal.
I have flown in and out of here, taken a bus here, and rented cars here over the years. BTV works well on all levels.
BTV is a nice, clean airport sitting in a nice neighborhood and verdant setting not too far from the University of Vermont campus. Because there's not a tremendous amount of activity here, check in, TSA, and baggage claim tend to move quickly. People can come pick you up curbside without the constant hassling one would find at LAX or other gridlocked airport. There is a large parking structure across the road which is connected to the airport by an enclosed elevated walkway over the roadway. Can you spell Minneapolis? Also, the rental car facility is located mostly within the parking structure, with the rental counters being near baggage claim.
Because it's about public contact and being the face of Burlington, and possibly Vermont, the attitude and caliber of service here is better than what it would be in and around Burlington. This has been the case each and every time. And, since most flights into and out of BTV are regional and shorter, a window seat flying in and out can provide scenic views over Lake Champlain and the surrounding countryside.
The majors fly in and out of BTV, with United connecting you to Newark and Chicago, Delta connecting you to Atlanta and Detroit, and American connecting you to Philadelphia and Chicago, at the very least. Also, low cost Jet Blue connects BTV to New York-JFK. And there are probably seasonal nonstops to Florida. Note that I've omitted Boston. That's because there are no flights between Burlington and Boston. Most people don't know why. For that, there is Greyhound, and the Burlington, Vermont stop/station IS the airport. It's a bus schedule that operates between Montreal and Boston, stopping at Burlington (BTV) en route. If you must fly to or from Boston, you can do so from Plattsburgh, NY, located across Lake Champlain.
Because of limits inherent with its smallness, the elimination of some routes, such as United shelving BTV-CLE, and potential weather issues, I'll cap it off at 4 stars for Burlington International Airport. I will say, though, that BTV is easily more attractive and more pleasant than most other smaller airports I've been to.
