Super cute store, adorable and very friendly dog to great you, staff was very nice. Some clothing items seemed to be a bit pricey but good quality. They had some cute puzzles and I got one. Very excited to put it together!

Stars down! Pretty on the outside but not on the inside. I’m revising my review. Went in on the hunt for a plain white t shirt and got a load of **** from the staff. Whaaat? It’s one thing to be rude another to be aggressive about it. Maybe they should rename the store Burnt Out. Well, my old review still stands. Love the store. The staff are scary mean. For some reason I love this store even though the staff are mean, snobby and unkind, even when you buy stuff. But the stuff and the displays are beautiful. The shoes are fun to look at. The book shelves full of little cool surprises. The makeup is so pretty. There are little treasures hidden all over the store. If only the staff would get their heads adjusted and see that they are part of a community.

Adorable shop with a nicely curated collection of items, jewelry, purses and knick knacks. They used to have shoes in the past but only had some rain boots when I stopped in today. Always has lots to catch my eye. So happy they have survived Covid shutdowns. A must visit location while you are in the area. The Fremont Rocket is on the corner outside.

I love this boutique store! Reminds me of TRUE old school Seattle boutique shopping. High end items that you won't find in the chain retail stores. Great place for unique gifts. Jewlery, beautiful stylish hats, hilarious cards, candles, books. Amazing shoes. Small, thoughtful curation of items.

Bought a pair of IZIPIZI reading glasses (over $50.00+) less than a year ago, and got a small crack in the left rim, making the lens fall out. When I brought the old pair in for a return/swap, the woman at the desk at first said she couldn't swap them for a new pair unless I had proof of purchase from Burnt Sugar. After a few more "discussion" points, such as you're the only shop in this part of Seattle that even carries this item, she reluctantly said OK. By doing the right thing, I will continue to shop at Burnt Sugar - best funny cards ever....

I've shopped here 2-3 times a year since moving to Seattle in 2013. Fairly well curated selections of cards and gifts, shoes and accessories. I had about the worst experience today that I've ever had in a retail establishment. My sister and I were in the shop for a total of 7 minutes, my 4 year old son in tow. The owner followed us around, audibly sighing and rolling her eyes, despite the fact we had about $400 in merchandise in our arms we intended to purchase. Though my son was never more than 3 feet from me, he crouched beneath a small carousel of clothes. The woman then tried to grab my son and pull him from the floor- turning to scold me "control your son, these are expensive things." Note that we had just been to les amis, where the experience was notably different (friendly, welcoming, and had no problem with the mere presence of children despite a much more aggressive price point). Naturally, we quickly returned all of our items and hurried out the door. They seemed pleased with this result, having avoided a sale today, and ensured I'll never again return to this shop.

Terrible sales person. Discriminatory and rude. They hate kids and assume you can't afford to purchase anything in their store. He literally said that when we told him we spent a lot money in their store in the past. He said I highly doubt it. I understand he was concerned about his overpriced fragile pop up card samples but could have said things in a different manner. Our kids were careful with them and if anything broke we would have bought it. Now we are never shopping at that store again. People who discriminate against kids just should not be in business.

Large assortment of fresh, one of a kind items including handbags,shoes,gifts, greeting cards. Just a lot of great things that you don't find elsewhere. Plus, they always carry a large assortment of VIN BAKER handbags which are the greatest bags of all! I love VIN BAKER handbags!

I found out via Vanishing Seattle's IG page that Burnt Sugar was closing its long time Fremont location and transitioning to become an online retailer. I had the opportunity to stop by briefly on 12/29/23. I was also greeted upon entry by a very chill resident doggo. I recall stopping in a few times years ago and well before I was a Yelper. I can tell that sales have been going on with the scant remaining items left on the racks, shelves, display cases, and even a fixture was lifted in front of me for purchase while I was browsing. I liked the vintage pieces, light fixtures, and distressed shelving and cabinetry. I inquired about an intricate black framed mirror, but it was not priced to sell at that particular moment. But I did end up with a set of steak knives from the 1950s for under $50. It had a sleek design, some heft, but not too clunky. After 27 years as a Fremont retail shop, their last business day will be 1/20/24. Be sure to check in or call ahead about hours and availability.

Decent merch; crappy staff. Not an enjoyable experience but I pop in every once in a while to see what shoes they have in stock.

This is a weird mix of items. I'm not really sure what this store is trying to be. It is fun to stop by if you are walking around the neighborhood...but I'm not really sure if I'd go out of my way to shop here. They have cool boots and a huge selection of tights.

For those who have experienced poor customer service I suggest you give this store another chance. Haley is a saleswoman who is very professional, kind, helpful and respectful. She is very sweet. The owner has an edge, it is true, but never seen her be rude. Plus, a beautiful golden retriever will joyfully welcome you at the door! Very well curate selection of cards, gifts, shoes and accessories.

I Iove Burnt Sugar for its great, different styles of clothing. Their shoes are to die for.

My husband purchased a clutch for me as a birthday gift in December. I liked it but would have preferred something a little different and so for the price point, I decided to return it for something I liked better. The store gave me a receipt and asked me not to lose it, as it was redeemable for store credit. I kept it in my wallet intending to go back soon, but my wallet (and purse, phone and keys) were stolen when my car was broken into this weekend. I had a mental inventory of things that had been in my wallet, so after all the bank, insurance and credit bureau calls, I got around to making some of the less important calls. Whoever answered the phone at Burnt Sugar was SUPER helpful. I had kind of thought it would just be a loss and only wanted to make sure no one else has tried to use the store credit; but instead they gave me my credit back and were quite empathetic about my ordeal. With all the customer service interactions I've had the last few days, this one really sticks out in my memory as a positive, helpful experience. I can't wait to go in and pick out something cute for Spring.

This little store is best digested as; One sugary sweet caramel with glitter! The bad after taste; Icy sales associates. Lucky enough this little store can produce itself to have the hipster jewelery, shoes, wallets, and other kitschy cute items that would knock any girlishly gal's pompom socks off. Be prepared to shovel out the cash as most items are of the higher end. My only minor gripe (and it seems to be that of many other fellow yelpers) is the staff. I gushed a compliment to either the owner or sales associate to which the only response was just a long blank stare. One reason why I'd go back: the stuff and decor is super fun to be around.

This retailer sells a lot of jewelry and I bought a very expensive charm bracelet. They have a 30-day store credit return policy, and after the first time I wore the bracelet, it left metallic residue all over my wrist, so I returned it. They required me to give up my original receipt, hand wrote a new cryptic receipt (after the guy called the owner and she gave him specific instructions), and then wrote an amount on the new receipt for less than I paid for the bracelet because it was now on sale. I told him that was not cool, and he said he had to do what the owner said. He also told me that the receipt was like money, and if I lost it, they had no record of my store credit and it would be lost. Grrr. So I took it and left because what am I going to do with an expensively priced cheap charm bracelet? Fast forward: I go back in to get a birthday present, present my receipt that is supposed to be like cash, he calls the owner, and he deducts the new amount from my credit and tells me I have 60 days to use the remaining store credit. He takes the store credit receipt and writes a new green ticket like on a restaurant order pad, and when I ask for a copy of my originals, he says no. I will never shop here again and I caution anyone from buying the vintage jewelry or dealing with their dubious accounting methods.

Once upon a time the owner of Burnt Sugar opened a cute shoe store named Frankie up the street. She filled Frankie with adorable, edgy and hip shoes for guys and gals. And although the shoes were expensive, I have a feeling the lease wasn't paying itself. So now, Frankie moved in with Burnt Sugar and they're living happily ever after. Looking for some cute shoes and price is no object? Go here. Need a new wallet, purse or something sparkley? Go here, here, here. Not sure what you want but you enjoy browsing? This is your place. A new calendar? Some note cards? Check and check. Basically a great little boutique with a super selection of gift type items for your friends AND YOU!

I think they have changed their name now to frankie's due to the mergine with frankie's shoe store that used to be up the street...but burnt sugar it shall always be for me! i love going here to look at the massive amounts of hobos & leather. i almost bought the cutest leather bag on 50% off-if it is still there, you must grab it...actually grab the hobo tote while you are at it. it is a basic staple-and at only 60 bux, you will thank me (if any of it is still there). it's eclectic and carries very much the attitude, at least for me, of fremont. Frankie's also has the kinda shoes a lot of seattlietes love. meaning tons of camper's new women's shoe line & bviel to leave you stunned and happy for days. i'm more of a 4inch stilletos kinda girl, but, that's just me. for pretty paper, bags, kids stuff, or shoes, head over toe burnt sugar, i mean frankie's...because you can, one day, talk about how this little sweet seattle boutique scored you a great something or another.* *i still carry around a vinylesque shoulder bag i bought in college with the last supper on it with the subtitle "original boy band" once in a while. it only costed me 20 bux on sale and it has endured for many moons. burnt sugar only carries the best quality and durable labels-which should be a comfort to your wallet

Like snooping through the bedroom of your favorite odd but cool Auntie. Small selection of groovy shoes. A wide variety of adorably packaged bath/beauty items. A teeny selection of funny/strange/useless/interesting book titles. Fanciful gift wrap. Sparkly jewelry. They've got a little of everything - thus a great place to visit for a unique gift, or just whimsical window shopping.

I would second that people give this place another shot. They carry some awesome things and both times I have been there in the last couple of months the sales people have been SO polite. Maybe a response to previous complaints? Whatever the reason, I have always felt welcome and comfortable browsing with no pressure to purchase.

Go here for the cute shoes, purses, and wallets. Beware: the prices aren't cheap. However, if you catch one of their sales, you are in for a super deal.

Do you ever wonder how some businesses can afford to pay the rent in Seattle? This is one store that perplexes me. 1. The sales staff are incredibly rude, every time I go in. Last time--I mean the most recent time AND my last time EVER--I popped in to take a closer look at the shoes I saw in the window. I greeted the sales person, walked back to the shoes, looked at them, decided against them, and made my way to the front of the store. I said, "thanks!" to the man behind the counter, who replied, "Uh...you really didn't spend very much time in here." Huh? Another time, I was with a friend who was purchasing a gift and when he asked for a gift receipt, he was treated to a diatribe on how Nordstrom's return policy is ruining small local business because it changes customer expectations. I didn't mentioned to her that it's not just Nordstrom's return policy that keeps me shopping there, but Nordstrom's kind, accommodating, friendly sales staff. Unlike (cough cough) Burnt Sugar. 2. This store isn't very special. It carries a mix of overpriced gifty things. It has a very late-90s-early-aughts vibe--too much glitter, too little style. There's nothing in here worth WANTING, let alone spending a fortune on. The aesthetic is just...lacking. 3. It's down the street from several great local shops. I can't imagine how it stays in business when the alternatives--on the same block or within just a few--are so superior. So. Is it a front for an underground glitter smuggling business? Or what?

Love this place - they have a little of this, and a little of that - modern, stylish local handbags, shoes, jewelry, French soap, tights, books, cards and more. Also, they carry chilewich. Beware the return policy though - you buy it, only get a store credit. Ouch.

I bought a pair of shoes on sale here a couple years ago and ended up bringing them back to exchange for a different size. The saleguy made a HUGE deal over it. He said that they were a final sale item and so she wouldn't allow an exchange, even though I wanted the exact same style shoe and the half size up that I wanted was available. With a little pressing I got my way, but he was sure to make a few snide remarks in the process: "I shouldn't even be doing this...I hope you realize how lucky you are". Seriously, what a jerk! I continue to pop in now and again because the products are so darn cute, though they are pretty much always out of my price range. I have a moral objection to paying more than $5 for a machine printed card so sometimes use their selection as inspiration for my own crafting, and the same goes for their pretty but expensive jewelry. I stopped by on a whim earlier this week and had an incredibly pleasant interaction with the saleswoman. I was debating about a pair of boots (also clearance and final sale) and she sang the product's praises but not in a high-pressure way. I left the store empty handed to think about them and did return within a few hours later to make the purchase. I overheard another saleswoman joking and chatting with another customer as I tried on the boots a second time - impressive considering they were just at closing time and usually people get the cold shoulder to leave so employees can close up shop. No regrets on my boots (I'm still sort of obsessed with how awesome they are), and I was glad to have a slightly improved opinion of the shop's customer service.

Still love this store. To all reviewers who complain about being followed around: they sell shoes they get from the back, makeup tucked away until you're ready to purchase it, jewelry kept under the glass and leather goods under the glass as well. What remains for browsing is only "gift shop" items: socks, cards, candles, scarves. But shoes + jewelry + leather are totally their bread and butter. You can't shop the store without their help - that's why they make themselves so available. Are they worried about shoplifting? Well, yes. A small shoe store putting out a wall full of highly resaleable Frye boots would be suicidal - that's why they don't? Doing the same with tiny little tubes of make up? Egads. They have to help you or you'll never be able to try things on or see their wares in person. When I have asked for help at Burnt Sugar and Frankie, the owner and shopgirls have rushed to have me try on every single thing they were into (until I was dizzy with "you're letting me try on a $1700 guillotine necklace? What if it breaks?"). My sweetie goes to here or hitchcock for all presents. Datapoint: I bought a sterling necklace. it broke the first time I wore it. They replaced it. Lovers of Breton stripes: I own two Breton stiped scarves from here, one cashmere and one silk-y. Neither was more than $100. Their scarves are killer.

This is a cute store, lots of gift ideas and off the wall party stuff. Like "instant a**hole, just add gum" gum. Or "pin the junk on the hunk" game. I do think it's a little on the pricey side, but it'll definitely be a place to stop when in Fremont.

Burnt Sugar is an amazing gift/apparel shop. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars and not 5 is they don't have a very wide range, price wise. They have beautiful shoes, bags, cards, gift ideas, but again I wish they had some less expensive items in the shop. That being said, if you have the cash, I can't think of a better gift store, (or shoes! I do love their shoes) in the area.

Fabulous! I was in on Friday, June 3rd and purchased a beautiful neclace (with real stones) and a pair of Born Annie sandals in natural/cream. The sales staff is amazing. Love those girls because they provide valuable opinions and were more than able and willing to help complete an outfit I was putting together. Also, it was just about closing time, and they didn't rush me - or the other people, out the door. The selection of handbags, boots (!!! Old Gringo and Frye among them), shoes, sandals, accessories is hard to beat. Happy customer for sure.

I have shopped at Burnt Sugar and Frankie for 5+ years. I have spent hard earned money as well as my friends and my boyfriend have spent money at this place. But today when I was browsing around, the glitter girl in the brown skirt and shawl looked me up and down, refusing to say hello or greet my friend and I as we walked around, and eyed me as if I was some vandal. Just because I don't look like a plastic princess does not mean I should be treated like sh*t. I hope the owners of Burnt Sugar & Frankie review their employees before they turn off more of their long term customers.

I really like the items at Burnt Sugar and I love the shoes at Frankie, but the service leaves MUCH to be desired. They're snotty, and now I'll walk right past this store instead of shopping. It's a shame they don't put more energy into treating customers well, because I'd be inclined to spend more time and money in this store.

I have bought three pieces of Jewelry from this store since 2005 to just last week. If you have ever been in then you know that their jewelry is very expensive. They do carry very unique pieces but the problem is, you do not know or realize that the pieces are not exactly what they tell you they are until you get them home. And then, if you try to return them, there is no way you are getting your money back because the owner insinuates that you bought it to wear it once and planned to return it all along. To give you an example, I bought a pair of earrings for $320 dollars. I really liked the stones, and the clerk said the backing and setting was 18 karat white gold. If the earring was really 18 karat gold, my ears would not have swollen up like balloons and become red. I haven't had that reaction occur since I was a kid. And another thing that annoyed me about the earrings is that they gave me clear rubber backings with these $320 earrings. WHAT??!?!!? i am paying $320 bucks and you can't even give me some real gold backings? Real jewelry stores will sell them to you for peanuts.

When I wandered down fremont reviewing several stores I had such an amazing time that day, of course - this shop stuck out like a sore thumb so I decided to go inside. Paltry selection, average shoes, and nothing really inspiring - but what made this place really bad was the extremely rude owner who refused to show me anything in the store, much less stop eating his salad to answer any question - he continued to stuff his face, like a rude cow and for a second he looked like he was going to ask me to leave. I hate rude people, and this man doesn't deserve any business - mine, or yours.

I really like what they sell at this store, but the customer service is terrible. When I visited, the staff seemed to be watching my friend and me as if they thought we were going to steal something; we were certainly not greeted or addressed. I don't recommend this business when there so many others that will actually act like they want your business.

I typically enjoy venturing into Burnt Sugar but after a poor experience with the customer service, it definitely left a bad taste after. My sister purchased a ring from them as a gift for my birthday. It was a Roost ring...beautiful. I've had it for two years. I don't wear rings often, but after wearing the ring to work one day, I came home to find the stone had fallen out. All Burnt Sugar could offer was for me to purchase a new ring. I really just wanted help in replacing the stone, which I would have paid for. They said I could go into the store and they would help me. After stopping in, they said there was nothing they could do, so I didn't understand the point of my going in if they couldn't help at all.

HI Cheap people, why are you shopping at small businesses and then crying about it when you find it cheaper elsewhere? Yes, it is true (DUH) small business cannot compete with huge corporations or online stores, because those huge corporations can buy things in such massive quantities and bully people who make things into selling their items cheaper. Don't listen to these ladies and their low star reviews. I love this store! I want to see this place thrive. The owner is a good buyer and interested in selling things at the highest quality. I cannot believe people go into boutiques and then freak out that things are cheaper at Target or something. You know you can also find designer things at Value Village, that does not make your DVF dress any less special. #superannoyed

AWFUL customer service, but good selection. I regularly support local businesses, and will continue to do so. However, I will not shop at Burnt Sugar again. The staff is not helpful, and are pained to make a transaction. I thoroughly regret making a purchase there today. Although the selection is good, I do hope people go elsewhere -other stores deserve business far more than Burnt Sugar.

I love this store. I tried on a pair of shoes. The next week, I flew across the country and realized I had to have them. I called and ordered the shoes. The staff was kind and helpful. I'm sad to hear people say the staff is unfriendly. That can ruin a business. I did not have that experience at all.

Really cute stuff, slightly overpriced... nevertheless, cute..However be warned the store manager will accuse you of criminal actions when you even attempt to "inquire" about returns.. I purchased a Skeem candle there several months ago, and the candle's wick ended 1/2 way through--my bad, I didn't have the receipt for a candle I bought 5 months ago, especially from a store I didn't think would rip me off..I attempted to ask the sales clerk about their return policy when some highly irritable manager interrupts our conversation rattling off about the return policy, I thought her head would blow up..she wasn't even invited to our conversation and she accused shoppers of "trying to return an item not purchased here, you could have bought that anywhere!!!" as I pointed to a row of the same candle mentioning to her that it was the store that had ripped me off for a $32 candle with only half a wick..which apparently matched the temper of the manager..I hope the sales clerk was okay, I wouldn't want to work under those conditions...and you've been warned about the return policy!!!! Not worth my money to shop somewhere that houses a hostile manager.

Helluva expensive, but a cute shop to go to score some cute hand made cards, and some cute shoes!!

I have been going here for years and usually buy the jewelry and shoes and purses as well as gifts which are somewhat overpriced but I wanted to support small local businesses. I brought out of town guests here and my five year old wanted to buy a card that he saw in the window and the store clerk was rude and reprimanded him for touching the cards and he was upset and tearful the whole way home and didn't want to talk about until he got home 15 minutes later and wanted to make his own card because he couldn't believe the man at the store was so mean to him. This was rude and upsetting and is not a kid friendly business and maybe things should be put higher up and out of the way if this is an issue. Also maybe asking parents to keep a closer eye on their kids may be a better strategy than reprimanding my child who is very sensitive. Also when we let them know we were regular customers and spent a lot of money there and (would have paid for any damage to the cards) the store person indicated that I highly doubt that in a snooty tone. Very disappointing. We want to support small businesses in the community but for the fairly overpriced non-essential goods they sell - their non-kid friendly and rude behavior have lost my business and the business of my friends and family.

I walked into this little boutique with a friend and we both thought the place was adorable. It sells a lot of high end, made in Italy/made in France footwear, other European products such as lotions, lip glosses, hair pieces, and odds and ends like bookmarks, books (a few of which I saw at Fireworks and B&N), cards, gifts, etc. I'm not familiar with the brands they sell, though, so can't comment on the quality of the goods, but they appeared to be high-quality and well-made. Most of the things are a little too pricey for me, but I may come back just to browse around for cards or something.

Burnt Sugar is one of my favorite boutiques in Fremont. As you walk in you wouldn't expect the space to open up the way that it does. They have terrific finds here from quirky books to killer shoes/boots to eccentric and delicate jewelry pieces. I've found so many things here for a last minute b-day present or even a quick pick-me-up gift for myself. Check it out!

One of my favorite stops when I'm in the neighborhood. Great cards, gift items, jewelry, shoes, bags, stationery, wrapping paper, and more. Perfect place to pick up a birthday gift, hostess gift, or something for yourself that you didn't know you wanted but you MUST have.

Awesome selection of great shoes and unique gifts. 3 stars because it's definitely overpriced and I'm sure they were overly nice to us because we spent a ton. If you want fair prices, go to Zappo's. My shoes were $50 cheaper on Zappo's.

I love this shop - one of my favorites in Seattle. They have great shoes and boots ( unusual, stylish) , fun cards and soaps and very nice purses and bags. My favorite thing here, though is their sock collection! They are a bit pricey , but the cashmere and angora blends are worth it, and make a really nice gift! They have a little bit of jewelry, and watches, too.

I came here over the weekend with my cousin. The items in the store are really nice and really over priced. I guess because it is more on the artsy side of jewerly. Be ware the owner seemed very racist and I was being so nice and so was my family. I couldn't understand why she was being so rude. She was a lady with white short hair. I was assuming she was the owner because she was asking why a person received a 10% discount on an item after looking at the receipt. I was so embarrassed taking my family there to see the items because of the very poor behavior. It is a shame that racism still occurs.

I do love the merchandise at Burnt Sugar in Fremont. But the people who work there are just not friendly. It's not a comfortable shopping experience. I went in to find a gift and was looking at various items. The entire time I was there none of the multiple sales people greeted me or asked if I needed help, instead only talking to each other as I was the only customer in the store. I don't like to be followed around or bothered by sales people but I do like to feel acknowledged and welcome in a store. I left to shop nearby and returned within a half hour to purchase. Again, no greeting, no offer of help. After looking around again I brought my item to the counter. The cashier said two things to me...the price (after which I handed her cash) and then when she gave me back a receipt and I said "Thanks", she replied, "Uh, huh". Honestly, I felt I was sort of putting her out by making her ring something up. If you don't want to be gracious to customers why work in a store? As there were two other employees standing nearby and looking equally bored I had to assume this was standard customer service. I doubt I'll be back. Too bad...I live nearby and would prefer to support neighborhood businesses.

Shop here if you like to have a very grumpy clerk stand about 3 feet from you, glowering, with arms crossed, while you look at things. I don't, so after this first visit, I will take care to shop elsewhere. We popped into several other clothing stores on this same street with our well-behaved teen daughters, and none of the people in those shops were anything other than welcoming and pleased to have customers. They didn't sit on our shoulders like ravens watching and waiting for us to shoplift or something. Don't worry, we won't be back!

Fab! Fab! Fab! Go and buy stuff, and let the dog. Great store period.

The store has many cute, quality items such as purses, shoes etc. However, the sales associates are not hugely helpful and definitely less than friendly. So long as there are other equally good boutiques in Seattle (which there are) where I can get many of the same things (sometimes even at a lower price) with much more help and friendly energy, I will probably not be returning any time soon....

I adore the shoes here. One of the best places to get fashion forward footwear in Seattle. Most of the sales staff is also super friendly and helpful. The reason I give three stars is because the owner completely brings down the energy. She is short, not helpful and almost flat rude. It's a shame that the owner would be the one thing bringing down a shop. Especially because most of their shoes are available online. I try to shop locally, but this seems hard to justify.

Really cute stuff... REALLY rude service! I went in while visiting Seattle with my friend and her Mom and the clerk glared at us from the second we walked in the store. She SCOLDED me for trying on a pair of shoes (I disrupted her box pile, I guess?), and when I was purchasing the shoes and a few other things she actually looked in my bag to see if I'd stolen anything! My friend's mom was horrified. Worst I've been treated in a store in a long time.
