Any location should be good. Best burrito shop in San Diego in my opinion, I can't get a decent burrito anywhere else outside of Southern California. Really worth trying out their seafood burrito options as well. I always order the Xolo burrito (pronounced "Cholo")- it's super addicting spicy and saucy shrimp.

Google
California Burrito Ranking: Stop #19 On the hunt to find San Diego’s best California burrito! Today’s tasting took me to Burros & Fries in National City. This is the 19th spot on my burrito journey. The Burrito: They whipped it up fast and served it piping hot. This thing was massive and loaded — lots of beef and a good mix of fillings. They also offer a chicken version, but I went classic with beef. The tortilla, sauce, fries, tomatoes, and cheese were all solid on their own, but somehow the flavors didn’t quite come together as a team. If the meat had been a bit warmer or freshly grilled, I think it would’ve hit better. Bonus points for the sauces. They looked super watery, but wow — bold and flavorful. Price was $13, which is about average around town, maybe slightly on the high side. Burrito rating: 7 out of 10 Service: Polite and attentive, though nothing over the top. 4 out of 10 Atmosphere: They’re clearly making an effort to keep the dining area clean, but my table had glass ring marks and wobbled every time I moved. Old movies played on the TV, music in the background, but overall the vibe felt pretty basic. Shoutout to the random kid with fries on the wall though — made me smile. 3 out of 10

Google
Used to be my families favorite taco shop, but lately quality and quantity has been lacking. Burritos are smaller and my quesadilla is lacking cheese!! Payed $20 bucks for a steak quesadilla with side of beans just for the quesadilla to barely have any filling, very disappointing. What’s worse is when my husband tries to order food the person taking the order doesn’t speak English or understands well. It also varies on what day you order you get a different cook who messes up or makes food very small. Disappointed when this place has the best refried beans around. And is a cleaner establishment than most taco shops. Husband loves their Tijuana burrito but has noticed less and less filling and more tortilla every time, sadly this inconsistency and prices rising will keep up from coming back.

Google
Finally a good place that offers yummy salsas and just for that I will return. The chicken rolled tacos were tasty. They have a large menu- a lot to choose from and everything sounds good. Will recommend to anyone looking to try something new!

Google
Not only was the food super delicious but Amy was a great host. As my first time here she recommended me several options and although my order was a bit complicated she, gave me the best option to my likening. Atmosphere was clean and comfortable. Music was perfect during my stay. Highly recommended and definitely coming back

Google
On this episode of The Taco Whisperer: I was craving some Carne Asada Fries and stopped into Burrows and Fries and ordered them with extra creamy chipotle sauce. The flavor of the Carne Asada was delicious and slightly crispy on the outside, which is what exactly what I'm looking for. I've never been disappointed at any of the locations. Nothing but delicious food so far. Highly recommended!

Google
Who doesn't love Mexican food? On a cold day it was inviting to enjoy a hot Fish Burrito. It's a large burrito. I ate only half. My first time ordering this dish. The hot sauce was 👍 great. Got the Habanero and mixed it with the mild. Then later just used the Habanero. I like spicy!!! And it Rocked!!!

Google
Really enjoyed my California burrito. The flavor was on point and I was not disappointed. The waitress was patient with me as I was undecided and was very helpful. It's a little pricey but worth the visit. I will definitely be back.

Google
It's like a regular taco shop. I had their carne asada burrito. Tasted good nothing out of this word. The place was clean & not a lot of people. It's a small little spot next to a few shops. Parking is kinda awkward there. No drive thru.

Alma M.

Yelp
This place never disappoints. Everything I've ever ordered is always delicious. My favorite are their flautas. I like their salsa bar. Service is always fast. The place is big to dine in and they have a big menu to choose from.

Yelp
Had to grab a quick bite around night after a long day of work. We came here on a whim, 90 mins before closing on a weeknight. They have a lot of deals on posters on the windows, as well as daily and weekly menu specials. I ordered the 3 rolled tacos with guacamole, rice, and beans special for $7.75. My Husband ordered the 2 potato tacos special for $12.95. Our food took about 15mins to make, which was a bit longer than expected. There we NO other customers and this was puzzling. We got our to-go food. It took us about 6mins to get to the location we were eating it in. The guacamole on my rolled tacos was already browning. This means that it was already brown when it was put on my food...old Guacamole. The rolled tacos had no real flavor, along with the rice & beans. My Husband's potato tacos were just, OK. He only ate 1 of them, unimpressive. We will probably not go back. The empty restaurant should have been our first clue.

Jerry C.

Yelp
Fries were a bit stale and didn't taste fresh to order, so have to take some points off. But portion was big and everything looked clean inside! Maybe it was just an off day, would try again in the future

Damian R.

Yelp
Family friendly ambiance, great service from employees. Honest about making suggestions and recommendations. I will definitely come back. Had the California burrito and the spicy shrimp. Both were really good.

Rita S.

Yelp
Scrumptious flavorful Mexican food located in National city. They have a little parking lot but I found parking right away. Customer Service was on point and was greeted when I walked in. I can't remember her name, but the cashier was very pleasant and answered any questions I had. We ordered the surf and turf nachos, a shrimp, rice and beans bowl, and three chicken roll tacos. Surf and turf nachos - We ordered the large. It came in a small or a large size. The chips were cooked to a crisp perfection and all the toppings were delicious. There was guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo shrimp, and Carne Asada that was tender, juicy, and flavorful. Definitely will order this again. Shrimp bowl - The shrimps was plump (pretty big) and cooked to perfection with amazing flavor! Chicken rolled tacos - We ordered three chicken rolled tacos, these are also delicious with a nice amount of chicken inside that was flavored very well and corn tortillacrisped perfectly. This taco shop will definitely be in my rotation in the upcoming future.

Trippy V.

Yelp
I haven't been back in a while--and was surprised to see new faces! Sofia & Hugo provided great service and great food! I love the specials---as always, delicious!

Ron B.

Yelp
I put the app on my phone and asked the cashier how it works and she only answered she didn't know, did not ask anyone else there if they could help. They need to know how it works.

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Not worth it , overpriced. Everything has changed compared to before when it used to be delicious. Today I bought 2 burritos, one carne asada and one bacon breakfast burrito, they were edible, but very flat , low on portion and it was mostly flour tortilla, even the salsas tasted really bad. Whoever did the salsa this day, doesn't know how to make them. Big disappointment not recommended, go to Jollybee instead it's next door.

Veronica H.

Yelp
The young girl working was beyond attentive, friendly and her customer service skills were superb. We decided to order street style birria tacos and Diablo shrimp fries. We were definitely impressed by the food, it wasn't your typical "taco shop" food. The amount of food choices they have is inane and they keep adding on. If you're looking for a place to have a quick bite and get good tasting food this is your place. Portions are a good size and reasonably priced. We have already been back a few times since I took these pictures. They do have Latin music playing, at times it can be too loud but nothing too excessive.

Joan R.

Yelp
I came in for dinner. The place was empty but otherwise seemed normal. But after I ordered and paid, the guys in the kitchen stopped the usual pop music, replaced it with horrible "trap " music, and started blasting it at club volume. I asked what was going on and why this was so loud. They turned it down....for 3 min and put it right back on blast. Meanwhile, a woman had come in to eat dinner with her little girl; they couldn't hear each other, much less anything else. I dont trust people this immature and obnoxious with making my food. Now I see why the place was empty.

Wana L.

Yelp
Can't believe I haven't had Burros & Fries until a few days ago! Well, I have been missing out for sure. You've got to try the Beef Flautas!! Wow! I don't want to over hype it up for you.. but it won't disappoint. I don't think I've ever had Flautas at a Mexican joint before, but they were pretty memorable. Chewy, with a slight crunch and delicious! It was nice to try something different than your usual rolled tacos or burrito. Their rice and beans were also flavorful. Be sure to check out their complimentary salsa bar and pickled carrots section! We also tried their Potato & Fish Taco, which were $2.69 or so each. On Tuesdays they have other tacos on their Taco Tuesday special. The cashier said their fries a really good. Look forward to trying them next time.

Saliha M.

Yelp
I ordered delivery. I got a half size carne asada fries $13.43 for myself and for my friend I got her a carne asada burrito $12.66. Honestly seemed very inflated, but J thought oh well it's the economy. My friend was doing my hair at her salon. We were hungry and just wanted something quick and reliable. My My fries were definitely old, hard, brown and cold. I only ate the meat and cheese, then threw the rest away. It was not edible. I wasn't sure why they gave anyone that type of quality of food to begin with. The service was fast, but the food needs to be edible. Please talk to your staff about this for your restaurants sake. I have eaten at other burros and fries and I've not had this experience before. I was pretty disappointed. This is common fast food.

Neto M.

Yelp
So I ordered the pollo asada fries, it's my 1st time trying this place out. The quality of the pollo asada was decent. The fries had no flavor, so good thing they had salt and pepper packets. The salsas looked good but had no flavor. I wouldn't eat here again. The customer service was good. The place needs better cleaning though. Tables are dirty and when there's no customers the girls just stand there, they should be cleaning or something.

Sharice W.

Yelp
Located in a plaza with limited parking next to the restaurant. I got a shrimp taco salad; it was yummy and filling.

Rebecca M.

Yelp
Alexa is the best. Always smiling and very nice.. that's why i keep coming back. Thank you Alexa..

Jeremy L.

Yelp
I love a bean and cheese burrito. It's basic, I know, but I love them. Found this place near the hotel I was staying at in Nat City and I dropped in twice. The salsa bar has some decent options, and the burrito hit the spot! I didn't try anything else, but I'll for sure make my way back. Would have 'loved' a bean and cheese and rice burrito... but this was great. Quick and simple, but tasty.

Jhuanna M.

Yelp
Burro and Fries is a gentrified taco shop for sure. Ordered the carne asada fries and a surf and turf burrito. Overpriced but that was expected. Food looked good but the guacamole was definitely not fresh and it ruined it for me. Burrito was huge too. There's a lot of places around San Diego that I'd rather go to besides this one but I can say I've tried it!

Nikki V.

Yelp
I've tried this restaurant twice and was not a big fan. One of my orders was for delivery and was pricey, but unfulfilling. The second time, I ordered takeout and was not doing the happy food dance. The burrito needs more filling. Parking was convenient. They have a salsa bar, and the salsa was good. Clean dining area.

Green Y.

Yelp
Kimberly is the most helpful! She is super fast and extremely friendly positive attitude. Please have her manager review this!!!

Jake D.

Yelp
The food is pretty good but the staff needs training for sure. I don't think I've ever had my order right. Even things that are included for example in a burrito will be missing. They charge a huge amount for additions and almost never include all of them if any. If you charge $2 for sour cream then there should definitely be sour cream. I could buy a few burritos with the amount of additions I've paid for and didn't get included. We go back every once in a while to see if they've gotten better but no.

Karla L.

Yelp
What makes me upset is they don't have to provide upfront service and all they have to do is pack the food correctly but NO. It's frustrating that we did an Uber delivery and paid $61 and there's no effing sauce. How do you expect me to eat my food!? This is shit. Sorry, but this is annoying.

Giovanni N.

Yelp
Went in at about 7pm, the place was clean and spacious. Sometimes when the place is empty the food is old, but when we ordered everything tasted warm and fresh! I got the combo which included 3 roll tacos (chicken or beef), a drink, and a quesadilla. Everything was delicious, I even forgot to take a photo! Lastly, the staff was also friendly. I was greeted as soon as I approached the counter, and even had a small conversation while waiting. Didn't feel rushed. Overall I'd come back.

Cesar E.

Yelp
When the baby falls a sleep in the car, you adjust your lunch plans. This location is a must try. You won't be disappointed.

Bianca V.

Yelp
My go to spot for carne asada fries! They make them so good! The staff is friendly and it's also very clean inside. Never had a problem with our orders either. They are also on time with orders and it's very clean inside

Noah A.

Yelp
Check your food, how can you forget cheese in a bean and cheese burrito. Was very unhappy with the service we received today. Went home to eat with the family and we're missing what was needed to enjoy our meal.

Pablo G.

Yelp
I absolutely love the plaza blvd location, even though I live far I don't mind the drive all the way over there! I've been coming here for years, food is always fresh!! Shoutout to the cashier who always helps me Stephanie she's the sweetest and always has a smile on her face, also to her twin sister Daisy!!! Always patience and kind!! Every time I come in these girls are working hard cleaning tables or taking out orders! 10/10 on the customer service and environment, store is always clean and organized.

Bella S.

Yelp
Get the potato tacos or buffalo chicken fries. So freaking delicious!! 10/10 highly recommended

Allison M.

Yelp
My order was made completely wrong. I had to drive over there from work and get it re made that's not the main issue. The girl that was working there on August 10th 2023 around 11am and had braces was extremely rude when I went to get the food. I gave her the old bag of food and she started laughing and gave me the new bag and said "here" and ran to the back area immediately. Every other burro and fries I have been to has treated me with respect and kindness and apologizes for messing up the order.

Carlos G.

Yelp
Food is not bad, but it is overpriced for what it is. There are other places in the same area that have better deals. Place is clean, and staff seemed friendly. I would go back if I was in a hurry and in the area. Not worth a drive just for the food.

Joanne P.

Yelp
Kinda wished I ordered a bowl of menudo instead. What I ordered was the #6 plate. 3 rolled beef tacos, hard shell beef taco, & side of fries. I aimed for the roll tacos, first. Which were actually a bit bigger, compared to a roll taco order from Alberto's/ Roberto's taco shops. I should've included a better picture! Guacamole and thick yellow and white shredded cheese. Crunchy. Then, I tried a few of the fries. Each one that I hit into, smh- didn't taste right. They somehow seemed a bit undercooked. Firm in the centers. Even limp when I would pick them up to eat. (Shrugging shoulders). But, they were greasy... So, I'm sad to say- but, I didn't even bother wasting my time to finish them. The beef taco- the shredded beef was good. But, that hard tortilla shell.... sigh- it was definitely fried. But, every bite that I took- the tortilla seemed stale. It lacked that CRISPY crunch. It was chewy. It didn't even matter which salsa I topped of on this beef taco- it didn't save the day.

Sherry F.

Yelp
Definitely a bang for your buck. Huge portions and great value for the price. The place always smells clean (in my opinion). Easy location to get to and park. I've had both the surf and turf burrito and surf and turf fries. Always a good ratio of shrimp to beef. The sauces are nice and tasty and I've tried to have at least most of them from their bar. Tip: Go in person to the store if you're tempted to order on UberEats or that sort. More options on the menu when you go in person!

Jack M.

Yelp
Burros y Papas! The funny thing is, I did not even have a burrito nor potatoes in any manner but I did have some flautas stuffed with shredded chicken served with a side of guacamole and sour cream, not to mention serving from the salsa bar. As you know, flautas are made with flour tortillas not corn. I usually go for the regular rolled tacos but every once in a while, well you know. The order came with two long flautas cut in half. They were nice and crispy and the shredded chicken, although I thought they needed more of it, was tender and flavorful. I liked that they topped the flautas with not only a cheddar mix, but also with a finely grated Mexican cheese for that added flavor. The guacamole was quite fresh and very tasty. It was seasoned just right and had a great avocado flavor. I liked that they did not skimp on the quantity too. All the salsas I tried from the salsa bar were good, but I was especially fond of the "avocado salsa." Service was welcoming and swift. I like the roominess of the place.

Irit B.

Yelp
We usually come here on a Sunday when we want a good, quick, and not so costly meal. We almost always add their rolled taco special just because it's such a great deal. 5 for $5.99. Love the salsa guac & their beans are like no other. Great food & cleanliness has been consistent over time. From my kid: I get the carne asada fries here and they are so bomb. They are very filling me and my mom shared one and didn't even finish it.

Ale L.

Yelp
I ordered a California burrito. It was a decent size and price ($~10). But it wasn't life-changing. I know we're not out there looking for life-changing in our Friday lunch burritos, but I'm used to eating at Panchita's and their high-quality burritos make any type of week feel salvageable at the least and incredibly wonderful and near-perfect at the best. Anyhow, this burrito was like half sour cream, eliminating any possibility of tasting anything else. The fries were so-so. The carne asada forgettable. I could see specks of yellow cheese and maybe hints of salsa. It stops your hunger but lands heavily on any tummy that isn't expecting to consume an entire tub of sour cream. Would I have it again? No, probably not. But would I return to try something else at this establishment? Yeah, it didn't break my heart. It just didn't make me feel any type of way.

Diana T.

Yelp
If I could give zero starts I would, they gave me cold food and didn't take my order right the first 2 times, Cashier didn't ask me how to correct my order just reprinted it and made it again the same. And did not say anything not a word. DO NOT COME TO THIS LOCATION

Juliana G.

Yelp
Love their salsas. My favorite burrito of theirs is the surf and turf burrito. I always get an horchata every time I go.

Namja Ileum H.

Yelp
Got food poisoning from the food here. First my wife found a rubber band in her burrito then I got food poisoning. You have been warned.

Nijole T.

Yelp
Tacos are here were good, Fairly priced madeto order quickly. Service was friendly, no salsa bar at the moment since it's only take out. Prices are fair, portions generous generous. Good Variety on their menu. Worth checking out if you're in the area.

roxanne f.

Yelp
Hadn't tried this location but so glad I did! There was plenty of parking and the place is super clean and refreshing with the AC blasting. They have multiple TVs with sports on to keep everyone happy. Diana and Wendy were holding down the front and were super helpful. I'm doing a Keto diet and they helped me pick something that would work for me. I got 2 street tacos (asada and al pastor) and a chile relleno. The street tacos are smaller but come with two, thin tortillas. Surprisingly, they never fell apart. The asada is tender and flavorful. They add a generous amount of meat and guacamole. The al pastor has their own unique spice blend, noticeable, buy one first before committing to multiple. The chile is egg-coated (of course) and filled with cheese, perfect for keto. I didn't realize the chile comes coated with sauce so I tried leaving most of it. You know how it is when you make chiles at home, sometimes they surprise you and come out spicy. Mine came out spicy, also I'm a wimp. Diana and Wendy helped me figure out how many carbs were in one small tortilla, since that's what I limited myself to. Love that there's a Starbucks drive through next door. Something to pick you up after your food coma. Lol.

Bat G.

Yelp
As far as the food was concerned nothing to write home about. I can go to Taco Salsa and get the same. Why I am writing is because after reading some reviews on here I know my feeling about that vibe that I felt was not just me being crazy. I went there on a Sat about 10ish, the reason I know is that it said if you buy a breakfast dish you would get a free coffee. Who doesn't like free coffee??? I tried to go inside and it was locked and I couldn't open it. The only girl in the restaurant come to open it because I guess it was just one of the doors that were unlocked. It was the one on the right-hand side that was closed as I am right handed. Okay, no big deal I went to order and she kept giving me a weird look because I was with my friend's son who is blond hair blue eyed kid and I am Latina. I ordered since I was paying for the young man and we went to sit down. Now let me tell you it was 63 degrees outside but it felt like 99% inside. And it wasn't just me it was my kiddo that felt the same way too. We got our food and she didn't give me my coffee as it said on the outside. The girl and one of the guys in the back finally opened the other door. I was starting to sweat bullets and I asked her if I could keep the door open because it was really hot. She said that she would turn on the air. Now everything was not fine but hey happy that she had turned on the a/c. I asked my kiddo to get me a Horchata because I needed something cold to drink to cool down. Now, this is when that vibe came back and I was like what the heck. So my kiddo went to the counter and said excuse me three times. Loud enough that I could hear him which I was a bigger distance from the counter that she was. The girl was next to the door leading to the kitchen and talking to the cook or someone in the back, full on conversation. Ignoring a paying customer. The only time she turned around was when I took the picture and I forgot about my flash. After that, she just kept asking me if I took her picture, like four times. Hell yes, I took your picture and no I am not going to tell you I did. So I left with no coffee. The food not worth the price and a feeling that if my kiddo had more melanin he would have been served faster or at least not be ignored as he was. Will I be going back, hmmm no. That girl that was in that morning needs to learn that all customers need to be treated with the same respect no matter what the color of their skin is. Just hope she knows that my young friend will be fighting for her rights as he doesn't get the luxury of picking and choosing who's freedom he is going to protect in the Army.

Danny B.

Yelp
Been to 2 different burros and fríes establishments and ordered Carme asada fríes in both. Complaint: They have both served me BURNED MEAT! Photo attached is what clean pieces I was able to scour off the entree. It felt like I was eating a bag of chips. On the pro side, green and red salsas were really good. Plus, also a fan of being able to pick from a S,M,L size on the carne asada fries Really Disappointing: morning register shift employee mocking the African American lady with a walking boot that showed concerned with the slippery floor. Not cool. Not sure I'll revisit any time soon.

Doug A.

Yelp
Pretty damn good Carne asada burrito. Great flavor. Really surprised. Will have to go and the try the rest of the menu.

Benjamin A.

Yelp
Love this place. Good prices, friendly staff, great food, and amazing salsa! Being super predictable, I always get the chipotle burrito. But it's hard to switch to something else because it's that good!

Gabriel P.

Yelp
This place used to be pretty good but lately is going dow hill, the customer service is just mean and terrible, the cashier treats you like she's doing you a favor and always with a sour face, she literally threw my order on the counter. The food was lame I ordered a Tijuana burrito and it was literally carne asada and beans with a little sprinkled cheese. it was a total disappointment.

Yara J.

Yelp
My family especially my kids like eating there and at the San Diego location as well. After covid we started ordering online using door dash. When we order online the price is about $5.00 more. For example, Carne Asada Fries small plate is ($8.99) while (online is $12.66). Large plate is ($12.89) and (online is $17.78). I have also noticed that the plate also is not full as before. I'm so disappointed with that and hope the restaurant chexks on this or will start loosing customers.

Michael R.

Yelp
How can a Mexican restaurant this this bad stay in business in San Diego!!! My mind is blown. I've had much better Mexican food in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Sydney, Australia. This is San Diego, home of the best Mexican food anywhere!! I ordered a vegetarian burrito with no sour cream or cheese, but with potatoes. I was charged more for the potatoes, which was not a big deal at all. The wrapper even said extra potatoes. I think the cook confused extra potatoes with extra cold lettuce, because the burrito was one third freezing cold, wet lettuce. I'd never seen anything like it. Was I being pranked? It was dripping water all over the place. The whole burrito must have been put in the freezer instead of the grill. So imagine eating a freezing cold, lettuce and bean burrito dripping all over the table. Disgusting. My wife had a regular veggie burrito, and hers was also cold and dripping with water. She couldn't eat it. I'll NEVER go to a Burros and Fries again. Stick to the hundreds of real, amazing Mexican restaurants. They should be ashamed of themselves. Train your cooks. And aparently the owner doesn't care and just cuts and pastes "We appreciate your comments, we continue working to improve every day." on every bad Yelp review, but does nothing to actually fix his crappy business. He clearly doesn't care about his business, which is not how you run a successful one.

Patty B.

Yelp
Love Burros & Fries National City! Great customer service. Love the 3 size options of Carne asada fries. Their aquas are great also! I tried the chilaquiles were the best! Don't hesitate if you're looking for good food & great customer service!!

Carolina F.

Yelp
My husband and I like ordering the wakeup, surf and turf, and Chipotle burritos. We also like the beef roll tacos.

Hever M.

Yelp
Apparently no dine-in, which is fine if you let the customer know that before they go inside and order. I got my order and went to sit down to eat and the cashier very rudely told me I had to go, I felt like I was getting kicked out. The food here is honestly not even that good, I would have gone the extra 5 minutes to another carne asada fry spot if I'd known this would happen. Left with a bad taste in my mouth and will avoid this place in the future.
