Spicy Miso Rice with Mentaiko Pork(Cutlet) @Buta Kin
I occasionally visited this hawker center for the great western, but opted for something a little less heavy(just abit). Found an interesting dish of Miso Rice. It’s like an earthy kimchi fried rice, being spicy, savoury and a little umami. It felt like a dish you would have in a chinese restaurant in Japan, which I’d say is a good thing.
The ajitama on the side was also great, while already delicious on it’s own, having it with the rice makes it even better. The cutlet tasted alright, but of a good size so I’d say it’s pretty worth it for the variety of flavors you get!
The soup the meal comes with is a tonkotsu broth, likely from the same pot the ramen comes in. As a result, it’s rather thick, with a thin fatty layer forming on the top if you leave it untouched for abit, you may or may not like it over Miso Soup, but I’d prefer Miso Soup, or Tonjiru
Overall, quite a satisfying meal with an interesting taste profile, takes the favourite parts people like and puts them onto a plate(mentaiko, ajitama, flavoured rice), never tasted anything quite like this in Singapore.
