Butler House & Garden

I never stayed at Butler House Hotel, it is a charming Dower House built in 1786, this is a four star hotel. It is a member of Ireland’s Blue Book. On Fridays, they have Summer in the Garden Barbecue, with live music. This looks like a great place to stay. They have a lovely walled garden in the back of this hotel. The receptionist was very kind at showing me around the hotel and I walked freely about their beautiful walled garden. They have a great outdoor seating area in their garden for eating and relaxing. If you’re at Kilkenny Castle and you walk directly across the street, you come to Kilkenny Castle Yard Craft and Design Experience. There is lots to see here, there are several craft studios and shops here and this used to be the stables for Kilkenny Castle. If you walk through this, you will come to the walled gardens at the back of Butler house. Walk through these gardens and you can enter the back of Butler house. It’s all in a straight line direct from Kilkenny Castle. If you walk in the back of Butler house and through it you find the front entrance of this fine hotel. If I was looking for a great hotel to stay at, I would stay here. The staff were very friendly and freely gave me information about their establishment. Please check it out.

Lovely stay at the Butler House, the charming Dower House of Kilkenny Castle built in 1786. We stayed in the Langton Room which had a really nice view of the castle. Wonderful breakfast served every morning. Also enjoyed the Cream Tea experience in the afternoon seated outdoors where you can enjoy their lovely grounds. Great location - across from Kilkenny Castle and short stroll to local shops and restaurants. Pleasant staff, comfy beds, wonderful stay.

We had a lovely stay in Butler House. Our room was wonderful with beautiful views over the garden. Great location and has parking facilities too. The hotel is kept in pristine condition throughout and last but by no means least the staff are just wonderful. They were all so friendly, helpful and professional. Would definitely choose to stay here again.

Superior place to stay. The suite was exceptionally spacious and luxurious. It felt like a stay in a very special place. Staff was attentive. Private parking lot is a plus. I had a wonderful view of the castle! Breakfast was exceptional. Best in Ireland! Treat yourself and stay here.

Butler House is a charming place to stay with a great location that makes exploring Kilkenny easy and convenient. The grounds are gorgeous and provide a peaceful setting to relax. Each morning we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast that was fresh and delicious. The combination of the beautiful surroundings, excellent location, and great food made our stay truly memorable.

We arrived to find our room was in the basement where you couldn't see out of the windows. The room was very big and spacious.|The tv was on the wall but we had to get reception to come and sort out the volume as it wouldn't come on. Also when in bed one of the posts of the bed blocked the view. We were not offered tea/coffee and sweet treat on arrival either. Breakfast on the first morning 11th July the porridge was not cooked enough so left most of it. The full Irish was nice. When we came to use the coffee machine the water compartment was extremely dirty with a slime residue, we took to reception and asked for it to be cleaned.|Not what you expect. The towels in our Review|Not what you expect. The towels in our bathroom were very shabby with them fraying as was the bath mat. Our last breakfast was not as expected we asked for just white toast but were given a stand with pastries and mixed toast. The scrambled eggs did not resemble eggs and tasted very bland.|Unfortunately we will not return to this hotel in the future

Beautiful place. We stayed in one of the suites overlooking the garden and it was clean, cosy and warm. The staff couldn’t possibly do any more for you. The ladies at reception are so helpful and friendly. The breakfast was delicious and we couldn’t fit in anymore food if we tried. Location is great, everything is on the doorstep. Have already recommended to friends and family and will definitely be back again.

We enjoyed two nights at the Butler House in a junior suite with a view of the castle. Everything was perfect! The front desk staff was friendly and helpful, the breakfast was delicious, the room was clean and spacious, and the location was ideal. An easy walk to the castle, to restaurants, and shopping. It was our favorite stay during our two week trip. We would definitely choose the Butler House for our next visit to Kilkenny.
