Butter Baker is one of those places you see on Instagram and say, “oh I want go try that!” and for good reason! I went in August after hearing about their monthly soft serve flavour being a hand crafted sorbet made with fresh passionfruit, orange and guava purée twisted with a Tahitian vanilla soft serve ice cream. I mean COME ON, how could you pass that up?!
The ice cream itself was summer in a cone, honestly. It was sweet and tangy, but not overwhelming.
Service and atmosphere was great too, as the place was cutely decorated and my order was quick to come out - almost no wait at all.
A couple things to keep in mind when visiting Butter Baker:
- Unlike the Dundas location, seating in the Markham location is very limited. I think there were only two tables when I went and both were occupied. Since it was super busy, I saw families taking their ice creams to picnic tables nearby or ever sitting under the trees. So, if you plan on walking and expecting to sit down and dine, make a reservation ahead of time (if you can).
- It is a bit expensive. I think it came to about $9 for a cone with taxes, which is admittedly a bit on the pricier side for ice cream when compared to Dairy Queen or other local ice cream shops. I think it’s definitely worth it for a one time thing, but definitely something to keep in mind if you are balling on a budget.
- There is no clear, large sign that says Butter Baker, so finding the place was kind of task. It was kind of hidden and tucked away in a type of business plaza, so it doesn’t lend itself well to being recognized easily. Follow Google Maps and keep your eyes peeled.
All in all, I’d definitely recommend Butter Baker and would probably return myself next summer to try out a new flavour of soft serve. If you are going as a group with kids and all, just be warned because your wallet will be taking a hit :)
