Butterfly Garden

This was extremely interesting and very informative on the different varieties of butterflies and moths. The guides were excellent in their dialogue, describing the various species and the measures being taken to ensure their survival. The butterflies are free to fly around and will occasionally land on you, if you’re lucky. This is well worth a visit.

A beautiful and calming retreat within Changi Airport’s Terminal 3, the Butterfly Garden is a must-visit for travelers. Located in the Transit Area near Departure Lounge Gate B1, it’s open 24 hours a day. Perfect for stretching your legs during a layover. The garden is immaculately maintained, with vibrant butterflies fluttering freely all around. The soothing waterfall and lush greenery create a peaceful, refreshing atmosphere, offering a welcome escape from the busy terminal. It’s a truly unique experience and well worth visiting if you’re passing through Singapore.

Took me a while to find the place and had to call the information kiosk twice. Otherwise Singapore airlines and Singapore airport is the best. It was early morning so butterflies were sleeping but will visit again on my return flight and see other gardens too.

What once used to be a variety of butterflies to the extent they even sit on you is now only with less than 20 butterflies. Am not sure if it is something to do with season or what. Lot in the early stage chamber though. Nevertheless, it is a nice place to spend time with and learn more about the butterflies. The ease of access within the terminal has always been a plus. Managed to capture some nice shots.

A nice and relaxing area for passengers waiting during transit at the airport. It’s small, but the greenery, flowers, and butterflies create a pleasant and calming ambience. A lovely spot to take a short break before your next flight.

Just wow..a natural habitat amidst the concrete jungle and planes nearby. Great experience to see butterflies close by and emergence of life showing the entire life cycle of transformation, brought back childhood memories. A must visit place in the airport, missed is so many time before.

I am really impressed with the airport, and this butterfly garden is one of the highlights. It is located in Terminal 3. If you are at another terminal after passing immigration, you can take the skytrain to visit it as long as you have enough time. The garden is not very big, but it is well maintained and filled with butterflies. They are most active during the daytime.

We love visiting the butterfly garden when we are in transit, and have doen so many times. It makes you feel loke you are not in the airport and has interesting information boards. On our recent visit, we were there at night and it was still nice to see the butterflies sleeping in the vegetation. Spotting them turned into a fun game. Our son enjoyed it.

I took a short tram ride over to Terminal 3 while killing time for my flight to Penang. The Butterfly Garden was about a ten minute walk from the tram station. It was two stories with a double door entry and covered with a green chain screen to prevent butterflies from leaving. It was humid inside since the garden was attached to the airport and screened for natural air supply. The garden was quite lush with numerous tropical plants, a waterfall and paved path. Excellent signage at the entrance and inside gave a complete story of the different butterflies, life cycle, protection and more. It was so nice to see so many different butterflies flying around inside as well as feeding on pineapples and flowers (set out by the staff). A glass case showcased the metamorphosis of butterflies from chrysalis. Well worth the stop over in Terminal 3.

Within the Singapore airport (Changi airport) there are plenty of things to do beyond shopping. The Changi Butterfly Garden is a perfect example of a unique activity to do at the airport. The gardens are found within terminal three. You can access the gardens from the second floor of departures through two doors to explore the beauty of the gardens. The gardens are not extremely large but a welcome relief from the airport. The butterflies are so beautiful within the gardens. Note the gardens are open to outside air, thus the gardens are hot and humid. Worth the visit!

It takes a bit to find this attraction within Terminal Three at the fantastic Changi Airport. You need to go through immigration to access this garden and then find the signs that point to the garden. It is a small area with two floors and lots of butterflies that are fun to watch and to take pictures of. It is a great place to escape the craziness of the airport.

The Butterfly Garden in Changi airport was such a nice surprise. Similar to the discovery of many great establishments, I stumbled across this place on Yelp when I searched on things to do. Even though my layover was short (3.5 hours), I was lucky enough to visit the Jewel as well as this butterfly garden located within Terminal 3 (after security checkpoint). It was beautifully located outside of the main areas and sectioned off, similar to where an airport would have a pet-relief station or a designated smoking area. Coming inside, there was a barrier that prevented the butterflies to escape before entering the more humid environment for this exhibit. This was a very calm and tranquil atmosphere which greatly contrasted against the loud and busyness airport vibes just outside of it. Changi airport definitely put a lot of money, thought, and love into this butterfly garden.

I remember this place from the first time I came through Changi Airport. Actually, I noticed that the signs to the Butterfly Garden are also signs to a smoking area, and the fact that some of the other gardens actually have smoking areas in them makes me wonder how many people actually end up walking into the Butterfly Garden and light up a cigarrette thinking that it is the smoking room, when in reality the smoking room is actually across the hallway. Anyway, it is rather pleasant, and watching the butterflies fly about is quite nice as well, despite the fact that it is pretty hot and sticky out here.

There is something very Zen about just watching butterflies, especially when you're about to get crammed into a plane for 5 more hours. If nothing else, you can get some fresh air if you're just transiting through Changi. About 8am to 5pm is when they say the butterflies are active...

As if Changi airport couldn't be any more impressive, they have a free butterfly garden to marvel at while people were waiting for their flights to depart. I have to say that this garden is a smaller scale version of the butterfly exhibit in Houston. But, it was still worth it to tour this indoor garden and enjoy its tranquility. I saw many different species of butterflies here with different colors and patterns in an indoor tropical forest. It even felt like it, since it was kind of warm here. I don't think they have air conditioning in the garden itself. So, don't linger around for too long or you'll feel the heat. Thank you, Changi airport. You're truly the number 1 airport in the world.

Everything seems incredible in Singapore, because me and my wife have been trying to survive in India for the past three years. It even smells nice and the bathrooms are clean in Changi!

The Butterfly Garden in terminal 3 of the Changi Airport was on the top of my list of attractions to see during my nearly five hour layover on my way to Manila/Vancouver. While the garden isn't very big, there are two levels. There are butterflies flying freely throughout the garden, so pay attention if you're using the handrail to go up and down the stairs, as there could be a butterfly resting on it! Changi Butterfly Garden is amazing as it is located inside Changi Airport Terminal 3. Yes, this is inside an airport and it is free for any travellers to enjoy this Oasis. There are over 50 different varieties of butterfly which are native to Singapore and Malaysia. The garden is quite spacious overlooking the air field. It has a glass and mesh enclosure to bring in the natural lighting and mesh to prevent the butterflies to escape. Now I also find out that butterflies loves pineapple just like me!

Who are these idiots rating the Butterfly Garden at Changi Airport a 4 star because the butterflies are sleeping? Oh yeah, Martin B. on 11/13/2014. Ignore him. This is a phenomenal place inside of an airport, that would actually be worthy of a paid admission if it happened to be elsewhere. It's 100% free, and you have the opportunity to see hundreds of butterflies in this incredible environment, with a backdrop of airplanes taking off. Prepare for a little humidity, and not enough room to maneuver your luggage around. I suggest you leave your bags outside, with someone watching them, and just explore both levels and take your time in there. I happily spent 30 minutes just wandering, and it is an oasis in the airport.

What a beautiful exhibit in the airport! Very humid in here but the many gorgeous butterflies make it so worth it! Singapore airport has so many areas to explore that it makes a layover seem very short.

I really like the butterfly garden at changi airport. Even though it can be crowded at times, it's still a nice oases of tranquility in the airport. Too bad that most of the time I'm going to changi (for red eye flights to Europe) the butterflies are sleeping already

Changi Airport is one of the best in the world (IMHO) and the Butterfly Garden is one reason why. It's an active, large indoor terrarium, filled with flowers and butterflies. They will alight on you (the butterflies, not the flowers) or sit quietly so you can take their (the butterflies, not the flowers ha!) pictures. A wonderful respite from the hassle of long-distance travel

Truly amazing and one of a kind experience to have at an airport of all places. The butterflies and setup are beautiful. If you have the time before your flight or after you arrive it is worth a look.
