So good, we came twice in one weekend. My husband and I were on our way to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and our route took us through Bismarck. We stopped at Butterhorn for supper on our way there, and we shared the burger. It was seriously one of the best burgers I've ever had - super flavorful with great toppings, perfectly cooked. The drinks were pricier than I thought they deserved to be, so I'd probably skip those next time. On our way back, it was Easter Sunday, and they were open for brunch. We got a butterhorn (with the cinnamon butter - amazing) and split the chicken and waffles. The chicken was perfectly crispy, and the waffle had bacon in it. The syrup was Tabasco maple syrup, which was something totally different. Yes, it was pricey, but the quality was there. The service was great, as was the atmosphere. I would absolutely recommend Butterhorn, and I'd definitely stop again should I find myself in Bismarck!

Fricken awesome! Places like this should be packed all the time but maybe we just showed up early. Real food done amazing and nothing like you can get anywhere else. Drinks are amazing too! I can’t believe how amazing the price was for everything. I expected to pay double for cuisine like this!

Bartender Nathan was very welcoming, incredibly friendly, and professional. I had an NA cocktail (Rose Red Slippers), a butterhorn, a cup of the bisque, and the jalapeño arancini. Everything was delicious and served at a great temperature. I enjoyed my meal and would happily return.

Google
Discovered this place when researching farm to table places in town. Was delighted by the atmosphere and customer service. The butterhorns were delicious. Fun cocktail menu and good wine selection too. The kale salad was good not too heavily dressed. The salmon was very crispy and the smashed potatoes too. Large servings! Would go again if a local or in town.

I’ve been absolutely delighted with every single dish I’ve tried since this restaurant opened. It never disappoints. The chef provides a menu that changes seasonally and everything is fresh and homemade. The butterhorns are a must try for newbies. They will literally melt in your mouth.

Becca was our server. She was amazing at explaining the menu, and telling us a little about the restaurant as well. The food came out absolutely perfect. The dessert was very unique I loved it. We shared dessert there was definitely enough for two. I would definitely go back if we are in Bismarck again. Thank you Becca again for a great experience.

Google
Pretentious setting with unique offerings. One of the finer dining experiences available in the area. I ordered one of the Eggs Benedict options, and my test for the quality of a poached egg is the whites not being runny, you might not have the same expectation. As for flavors the breakfast was unimpressive but not bad. Where they shine, is in the name. Their butterhorn is what it’s all about, I’ll attempt another visit and try the corned beef hash next time, the atmosphere and options make this restaurant worth visiting, you may fall in love, and as for their butterhorn it won’t leave you disappointed.

Had an excellent time with my mother here at Butterhorn. The menu items now have improved since the first two years y’all been open. Glad that y’all have small plates. We love them. Please keep that going. Not many places do that. Plus, Nathan gave excellent service, explained in detail the items on the menu. Thank you Butterhorn and Thank You Nathan.

Yelp
Butterhorn is definitely the best restaurant in Bismarck. It's on the Main Street in an old saloon building. The menu offers something for everyone, with soups, salads, pastas, meat and fish choices. We had the fried chicken thighs and a spicy pasta entree. We also had to get the butterhorn rolls, the house speciality, which were good, not great. Service was excellent. Overall a good experience, better than I expected.

Yelp
We noticed the restaurant in the ND visitors guide and decided to stop in. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. Nathan was our server and bartender and was great. Everything was fabulous from the cocktails to the food. I now want to try to recreate some of the dishes since I live too far away to revisit. Definitely worth a visit. Be sure to visit the bathroom, the decor is great!

Yelp
Always exceptional! Staff is friendly, Butterhorn rolls are the best! My husband and I love the interesting well crafted specialty cocktails too! A HAVE TO stop anytime we are in Bismarck!!! The ambience is comfortable and I appreciate the quirky decor and mis matched mugs!

Yelp
Have heard great things about the Sunday Brunch so made a reservation for Easter Sunday. I love the atmosphere and the food is even better! I had the Eggs Benedict, which I never order, but the server recommended it and it was excellent. My husband had the biscuits and gravy and was very happy with it. We will make a point to come back!

Yelp
Food was deliciously prepared and waitstaff was very friendly. Restaurant was clean and very pretty.

Yelp
Dinned here last night. I've been here twice. Once before Covid... both times I have had to send my food back as the meat was grossly undercooked. Last night I had the cod and the fish was clearly raw. The waitress took it back, but when they brought it back it was halve the size. Another person in our party ordered the pork and it came dark pink. She asked our waitress who informed us that they serve their pork medium rare. Seems as thought that would be something they should mention. Martinis are served in the smallest glass I have ever seen. I wish I had taken a picture. The only compensation offered was the waitress apology. The manager should have intervened. For all the hype... and price I was disappointed.

Yelp
Worth the wait, but could still use some improvements, mostly just staffing issues, which all restaurants in the area are struggling with at the moment: Highlights: The drinks were so well crafted... you can tell they are making their purées and blends fresh and I could have drank all the night. The bar tender was kind and personable. Appetizer (bison tartar) and soup and salad were perfect. I went straight home and attempted to replicate the Emerald salad, which of course didn't quite compare... it was delicious!!!! Disappointments: Staffing shortages caused us to have to change our reservation which was a minor inconvenience. The server we had was slightly irritated, not with us but likely with the unpredictability of working short staffed. She seemed overworked and somewhat "complainy" but it didn't ruin the experience. Our entrees were decent, but a bit of a letdown after the amazing drinks and appetizers. We had two pasta dishes that just lacked good seasoning. They were both a bit boring. We wanted to come back for dessert the following evening because we were too full, but again, they were closed on the Saturday due to staffing issues. All in all, a beautiful atmosphere and potential for an unforgettable meal... we look forward to trying again!!!

Yelp
We used to really enjoy this restaurant and made it a point to go every time we came down from Minot. Unfortunately, our last two meals were not good. I sent emails about our experience to Butterhorn and never got a reply, so I am now documenting our poor experience here. I won't detail every problem with our meals, except to say that appetizers were bland, pasta was watery, burgers were over-salted, lamb was so undercooked it was practically raw, and our charcuterie board seemed like it came out of a box from Costco. We expect more from a fine dining establishment, especially at this price point. The first time we had a bad experience, we just chalked it up to an unfortunate occurrence. But the second time it happened and no one responded to my email, I decided to make note of it here on Yelp. There is a definite shortage of quality restaurants in this part of ND, so I really hate to say that one of the best places has lost its luster. Alas, we will not be returning to Butterhorn.

Yelp
No ambience. Seriously over-priced food. It wasn't bad food...just NOT equitable to the price!! I was "so" disappointed that you had to "pay" extra for their signature butterhorn biscuits. Ohhh my..so sad!! I ordered the shrimp fettuccine and the shrimp was cut up into little pieces....ugh...horrible!! All hype....nothing to back it up...

Yelp
Having a tough time finding enough staff to keep the doors open. More of a sad reflection on the availability and willingness of people to get a job in hospitality than a flaw in the restaurant, but nonetheless we were profoundly disappointed.

Yelp
Fantastic experience. Nearly a 5 star experience for us but it just fell short in a few areas. Let me start by saying the atmosphere is delightful. Classy but comfortable. I felt like I was home. Well a fancy home. Everyone in our party has f 6 commented on the vibe. Outstanding. We were there for Sunday brunch, reservations were easy to do on line and our table was waiting for us. The owner sat us and we were greeted promptly by the staff. We ordered the Carmel roll and Butterhorns to start. Off the charts good! For entrees we had corned beef hash with poached eggs, quiche of the day and biscuits and gravy. Everyone loved their food. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. We would definitely go back. The only few misses is that we did not get everything we ordered. It was fine as we had plenty of food and one corned beef hash came out as a pile of potatoes with only a sprinkle of meat. The kindly brought out extra meat but that was a significant miss by the kitchen. Personally I prefer smaller bites of corned beef or small shreds as just a few of the larger bites were kinda tough. I might not have experienced that with smaller pieces of meat or smaller shreds. In spite of forgotten items, and 1 poorly plated meal this place is excellent. I'm sure the next time we go it will be perfect. I will note that the brunch menu is smaller than most I've seen but if everything on it is this good, then it's a perfect sized menu!

Yelp
This meal was one of the best things I've had at Butterhorn. (Laminated Mafaldine: Asparagus, cherry tomatoes, white wine, herbed goat cheese, lemon zest). It had great flavor, the pasta was perfectly al dente, portion was just right. I was sad the spaghetti was removed, but I might like this better. I also love that shrimp cocktail.

Yelp
I'm honestly embarrassed I've never left a review for this place because from the service to the unique menus to the Art Deco bathrooms and incredible signature cocktails, Butterhorn continues to deliver an amazing experience. I've been here a dozen times and, other than an unsteady table one time that made my wife and I giggle, it's always been great. I mean, did I mention the actual Butterhorn bread? Oh, to call it just bread would make me feel like a rube. It's literally heaven made with bread ingredients. Oh and the brunch ... THE BRUNCH!!!

Holly Q.

Yelp
We went on a Friday night at open, not a full dining room. Four items for mains to choose. I ordered the burger medium rare came crispy, had to send it back. Also the salad dressing was not a strong enough flavor as romaine hearts are a very strong flavor. Dissappointed.

Yelp
The first time we ate at the Butterhorn, we, of course, ordered their butterhorns, and they were out of butterhorns!! Recently on a national TV cooking show, the chef cooked the pork chop too well done and dry, then she forgot to put the bok choy on the dinner plates. She told the TV audience that everyone in ND lived on farms and ranches (?) and ate baked potatoes! And I could not find baked potatoes on her menu!

Leigh T.

Yelp
Another great meal at Butterhorn. If you've never been here, you need to try it! The menu was just redone, I had Chicken Marsala with spatzel (sp?) and Brussel sprouts. So delicious. But rule number one, order a Butterhorn to start you meal. You'll thank me!

Holly C.

Yelp
The food was outstanding. The vibe was upscale but chill. Drinks were great, a little fancy but great. Our server was very tentative to us and answered all our questions honestly. Explained why something was taken off the menu. This restaurant values its people and customers. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Garbage Wine List The restaurant lied to me three times about their wine list. The first bottle I ordered, they were out of. No problem, I pick something similar from the same country as the first. What I get after opening and tasting is a buttery, straw colored wine from the west coast and a different vintage. Wrong country, wrong year. What gives, I ask. Nothing against that particular style of wine, but not my taste and not what I was after for starters we had chosen. The first answer I get is that the wine is from the country listed in the description on the wine list but has been bottled here domestically. (Lie # 1) That would be fine if it were true. I pointed out that it was printed right on the bottle that the wine had been grown, finished, and bottled all in Oregon. At this time I suggested, rather than me sending the bottle back and them being forced to comp that bottle that they should just offer me a discount and we could move on. They then tell me that they can't discount it because the price listed is what they also pay for it. Lol, sure. (Lie #2) I acquiesced at this point tired of dealing with the ridiculous situation altogether realizing the the restaurant was not going to handle their mistake appropriately at any point. They then back peddle a bit and give me a small discount on the bottle. Great but frankly too little too late at this point having made me haggle over a bottle of wine at dinner due to their blatant mistake. At this point the gm pops in to deliver an apology and another lie to round out the whole experience. He assures me that the entry for the wine I ordered was a single typo on the list, an exception to the rest of the list. (Lie #3) I know this because when I ordered the second wine for the table on my third attempt, the waiter made sure to check the bottle this time and was upfront about its discrepancy. It was again the wrong vintage. The wrong vintage by four years younger to be exact. Because, of course it is. At this point I was just mortified for them and told them it was fine, please bring the wine and let us put this dinner out it's misery. There was zero chance they were going to handle this mistake well either. It's clear that there is no one at the this restaurant who is curating the wine selection much less attempting to coordinate with the menu. They have a list of price points and are letting the distributor fill their orders with wines similar to what's already on their wine list rather than make educated decisions and update the wine list accordingly. The food was ok but not good enough to warrant the terrible experience. The server was polite and handled their job as messenger between me and the restaurant as best she could considering they sent her over so many times to just lie to me. You could tell she was uncomfortable and I was too. I told her the restaurant should never put their staff in this position and her management team needed to do much better when handling their mistakes as that's not her job.

Yelp
Service, food and drinks were good. Especially for a town like Bismarck. We didn't expect to find something like that there.

Jean S.

Yelp
We are visiting from out of state and heard the food was delicious. We stopped in at one on Saturday and we're met by such a rude and uninterested hostess. We were informed there was no availability, the empty tables in front weren't being used, and the two open seats at the bar wouldn't accommodate 4. She was dismissive, had a put-out expression and projected such negativity. What a disappointing experience. No idea your hours, possibility of coming later, another day, etc. and certainly no thanks for coming in, try us again. She looked at us and spoke to us like we were not good enough to be in your restaurant.

Yelp
Wow!! This place is absolutely delicious! We WILL be back. The flavors are..craft flavors if that makes sense! Unique tastes. They were also very welcoming of our kids even though it's a fancy style restaurant which is definitely appreciated! Side note, the bathrooms are beautiful :)

Amanda W.

Yelp
I used to look forward to eating here every time I visited Bismarck, and me AND my family have all been huge supporters, but have now I have had two horrible experiences and will not be returning. Our last visited resulted in all three of the items we ordered (appetizer and two entrees) being so salty that I could not finish mine and it made my lips burn (it was a steak, for reference). It turned my husband and I off so much that we had avoided coming here for a few months. Today, I, solo, went for brunch, and arrived more than an hour before close. I asked to sit at the bar, and was turned away due to the "kitchen closing due to high volume that day" but there were other people still sitting in their waiting area for their table, and subsequent breakfast service.

Yelp
My wife and I have heard a lot about the Butterhorn and felt we needed to give it a try. As foodies we eat upscale style restaurants often. To be honest I was a bit disappointed. The Butterhorn Croissant/dinner roll,as it were, was ok. (Looked like a croissant bite ate like a dinner roll). What turned me off was that the inside of mine was not completely done. The Shrimp cocktail wasn't bad, it was a refreshing take on the classic shrimp cocktail, presentation was ok. My wife's main course was the blackened Cod. Now it's always a skiddish choice to order a fish like this because Cod flavors change quickly and must be handled appropriately or you get some funky or ammonia type flavors. Typically great restaurants should know this and handle it appropriately not to mention source out reliable vendors. Unfortunately this is not the case for the Butterhorn. The fish was almost inedible. The other components of the dish , such as cauliflower purée and pineapple cilantro cabbage slaw was not flavorful on its own let alone in pairing and there wasn't much of it and why so much cauliflower purée? The proportions was just a major issue. The adobe pork was presented well on a corn purée. The pork itself was nicely cooked and tender. It was nicely seasoned however again proportions and balance were missing. The purée was sweet and I understand the direction it just didn't compliment the pork well. There was also so much purée the rest of the dish was swimming in it. The dessert was a chocolate torte with ice cream. It was just over the top sweetness. The torte was thick hard and just difficult to eat. To top it off. I am not understanding why anyone would eat or use the dinner mints located next to the toilet. Get rid of it, it's just nasty. The good: I love the atmosphere. The waitress was attentive and friendly. She truly loved her job and did a great job attending our needs. The pomegranate lemonade was truly amazing! Overall, I just wished for better food at this price point. Perhaps I will try it again at a later date but may need to go with traditional items such as steak and potatoes.

Yelp
We've enjoyed dining here several times. We went for dinner again on Saturday 22 Oct 22. Once again very good food and great service. My wife had the blackened cod and I had the mushroom pasta. Both were excellent. A top recommendation in Bismarck!

Yelp
A very unpretentious exterior on a cold night. Then upon opening the door we were greeted warmly by the maitre de with a huge smile. He suddenly got a phone call and I could tell from the conversation that it was someone cancelling their reservation. His expression of genuine concern for the caller was a really nice touch to start the evening. The restaurant itself is clean and nicely furnished with lots of wood and what looks like the original tin ceiling that really adds a touch of elegance. They have some really interesting looking craft cocktails, but we had a bottle of rose. Their menu changes seasonally to take advantage of local ingredients, so you might want to check their website before you go. We started with their signature Butterhorns (oooh, big puffs of buttery, salty deliciousness), then shared a Walleye cakes appetizer. Delicious! For entrees RL had the seared duck breast with parsnips, wild rice, sausage, and Juneberry preserve, which was more than delicious. I had the Cavatelli with wild mushrooms, crème fraiche, shoyu, and thyme, which was very tasty, but not an exciting presentation. RL's was picture worthy, but (as usual) I forgot to take one. My only grumble was that they didn't change out the flatware between courses. Overall, Butterhorn was really excellent, but I have to give a special shoutout to the bathrooms. OMG! Who reviews a restaurant and talks about the bathrooms, right? But these were really bathrooms worth talking about. lots of tile and marble and brass and super clean. They looked like something out of a turn of the century hotel.

Yelp
My husband I enjoyed dinner here last night. Our waiter was amazing at describing and recommending food choices. Top notch restaurant with a beautiful view.

Yelp
This is where I had my birthday dinner. I was pretty excited for it, having read how yummy the food is. We did have reservations, which were set up a few days before hand. When you walk in, the host is right there to greet you. He was very professional and friendly. We started out at the bar, since we had a couple of minutes before our reservation time. The bartender was very friendly and busy, but when someone in our group asked for an explanation on a drink, he was able to give personalized details. You didnt feel rushed, which I liked. Our drinks were nicely presented and very tasty. Our table was a booth, near the back of the dining all. It seemed that they had two waitresses, with one training. It seemed like owners/managers were on the floor, placing food, keeping up with water, helping staff. That's good, shows they care. We had one gentleman, the man who was hosting, come and apologize for the wait, which I felt wasn't much of a wait at all. He stated that the kitchen for backed up with getting a large amount of orders all at once. I would say so, since there was a large table of about 10, and this is a small restaurant. That'll bottle neck any kitchen. For starters, we shared Beet Culurgiones. The filling and accents were good, the cururgione would have been better to me if they were not greasy. The greasiness killed it for me. Butterhorns, which are amazingly light, fluffy, with a blessing of salt. It is a must order. I also had a Curried Pumpkin soup, which was amazing! I would go back just for this soup! My main dish was a Kansas City Strip 14 oz. Dry Aged 35 Days, cooked med-med rare. This was very good! No abuse needed, just it's natural juices and the chefs seasonsing. It came with baked beans, NOT from a can, and fingerling potatoes. These were cooked well, and very delicious. I was stuffed at this point. Having been my birthday, I was gifted a dessert from the restaurant, which I picked the Whiskey Pumpkin Tart. It was very cute when presented. The two things I didnt love, was that the crust seemed to have a dash too much salt, which was manageable if you didnt esr the side crust. And the meringue seemed to fall apart, as it was very gooey. It was toasted beautifully! Over all very nice experiences. Friendly staff, which could answer questions about the dishes and drinks. I'd go back.

Yelp
We tried to dine here but were turned away because we didn't have reservations and the hostess said they were running out of food. The worst part was that the hostess was very rude about turning us away. In my opinion, you shouldn't be rude to the people trying to support the business and the owner. ‍ We're locals and have been here many times in the past. With this most recent experience, I doubt I'll be going back.

Yelp
Simply amazing - everything we had was delicious! Their corn beef hash is out of this word. Definitely will be coming again!

Yelp
This was an unexpected discover in Bismarck. Located on Main street, the outside of this establishment is unassuming, but the interior is an upscale, almost olde England vibe. My work friends and I sat down to interesting cocktails which included ingredients like lavender, creme de fleur, and aloe water (The "Secret Garden" was refreshing and light tasting, yet spirit forward.) Beef tongue bruschetta, scotch eggs, pork belly, and a beef bavette (a cut of steak that seems to be becoming more popular) a blend of classic and modern offerings that I surprisingly showed up on the same menu. Everything came out on point and mindfully plated. Oddly, the namesake butterhorns (basically a buttery crescent roll) were not the highlight, but rather the beef tartar was!

Nathan L.

Yelp
Was a big fan. The butter horns were a hit, the apps were good, and I enjoyed my cod. Loved the spice on it.
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
Delicious! The food was amazing. We went for Brunch. The menu had great choices, but could use a little more descriptions for some dishes as a side salad is not a normal side salad. Service was decent; we were sat at the small tall tables in the very front of the restaurant so our waitress didn't come by as often since the majority of the tables are near the back. Definitely get the signature Butterhorns. They were INCREDIBLE. I thought they would be like a cinnamon roll, but they are amazing homemade croissant like breads. The signature drinks were very good, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming.

Jari K.

Yelp
I stopped in as a solo traveler and was impressed with the friendly staff and i enjoyed a really nice bottle of Santa Margherita Prosecco and a great plate of Fried Chicken.

Jacob H.

Yelp
Wasn't impressed on my visit here during a business trip to Bismarck. Staff didn't seem interested. Food was meh

Yelp
Delish! I have been here twice for brunch and it does not disappoint. The French toast sticks are very good and it's a nice quiet place to enjoy breakfast. Can't wait to try for dinner.

Donald C.

Yelp
After reading the Yelp reviews, I really wanted to have dinner here. Unfortunately, when I arrived, there was a note taped to the door that said "Due to extreme staffing shortages we will not be open tonight." This was a surprise since Open Table was accepting reservations. Instead of making a reservation, I called the restaurant and the voice mail said nothing about a closure. Very disappointed. So, make a plan B just in case.

Yelp
Pros: atmosphere. The booth in the basement is gorgeous. The feel is really inviting when you walk in. The walleye cakes and butter horns were delicious as was the steak. Cons: Our waitress was really not attentive and walked away before we were able to answer her on more than one occasion. I felt like we were not important and she was not deserving of the generous tips she received from our table of 6. The pork was my biggest disappointment. It was dry and over done. I had one bite and could hardly get it down. I wish I had gone with the steak. If I were to return I would try the steak.

Jenny H.

Yelp
Delicious and unique food. The dining experience is always pleasant, the staff is always knowledgeable, and the food is top notch. The menu changes seasonally, but if you have the chance to try the Butter Chicken....do it!

Evan K.

Yelp
Very good fillet mignon. Excellent brunch. Nice atmosphere. I will keep coming back here. One of the nicer dining experiences in Bismarck.

Yelp
The best place in Bismarck for a special night out!!! I fell in love with Butterhorn when we ate here for a company dinner. It is a very special and unique place in downtown Bismarck. The atmosphere is really neat. It is both vintage and modern and surprisingly very comfortable. We were particularity impressed with the downstairs area where we were seated! We continued to be impressed when our drinks came out. They offer delicious specialty cocktails, craft beers, wines, and a wide selection of spirits. Our friendly waitress brought us out some warm butterhorns before our meal, which we also LOVED! These delicious little things will seriously put any of your favorite steakhouse starter breads to shame! For our meals I had one of their seasonal pasta and it was unique from anything that I have had before and was the perfect serving size! The others in my group order a steak meal and were equally impressed. One said it was the best steak that he has had in Bismarck! Overall, the price of Butterhorn is very reasonable for what you get too! You really can't go wrong with a night out here! You will certainly be impressed!

Yelp
I'm a simple man so I couldn't pronounce half of the words on the menu but thankfully my beautiful wife is up on the food lingo and was able to explain to me what each dish was and what the ingredients were. I prepared myself for another "fancy" restaurant meal that would maybe taste a little better than normal fare at a chain restaurant. Sweet Mother Teresa was I wrong! I have never tasted such smooth, flavorful, and decadent food in my entire life( except for my wife's cooking of course ). I swear to Tony Danza that they grind up unicorn horn and sprinkle it over the butterhorns because those are freaking magic in my mouth. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and was savoring every bite and shaking my head because of how amazing it was. My wife ordered Croque Madame and had the same experience. Our only conversation during our meal was "Mmmmmm" and "Oh my gosh". If you haven't been yet please throw on your best pair of skinny jeans and get down there. This is my new favorite place. Job well done Butterhorn!

Yelp
Fantastic...many places screw up humble pomme frites but here they excelled at them and even the aoli was home made! We were passing through and found this place after consulting TA. Well to say we were very impressed would be not doing the place justice. Everything seemed to be produced in house apart from the wine and beer! For $100 we ate: buffalo tatare, pork belly, beet and pumpernickel salad and a wonderful butterhorn bread pudding and 3 glasses of good vino. Sadly the scotch eggs were not on the menu.... Keylee our waitress was a delight to chat with, full of historical information of things to do on our trip, knowledgeable about food and wine and overall happy to chat at the end of a busy shift. The chef owner who we understand is young (for we are old...) knows how to cook and plainly spends many hours creating great dishes from scratch. her partner is front of house and does a grand job. When you go admire the original tin ceiling, do try the butterhorn bread (which I had never heard of...) and be impressed. This place would cost twice as much in any large city, it is a gem to be appreciated.

James H.

Yelp
Was delicious. We highly recommend the butter horns. It was so good we made our next flight to coincide with time they were open!

Angus W.

Yelp
Fairly decent food well presented. I would suggest sitting in rather than taking out because the experience is definitely part of what you are paying for. I had the GNUIDI and it was everything you would expect and more. I would come here again the service was fantastic, very professional and well dressed. I felt like I was in a Michelin star restaurant

Yelp
Yes! This is the place you dreamed about stumbling upon in Bismarck if you are a foody like me, visiting North Dakota for the first time, from some fancy Western urban area. I'm in town from San Francisco, here to work for a week, and I fell upon this gem on my very last night - alas! 1930's decor and hip music and waitstaff. The food was fantastic. I had the beet salad - beautiful on the eye and gorgeous in the belly -- was surprised that the beets were raw, but certainly not disappointed. I'm a "vegequarian" so passed on all of their renown meat dishes which you probably should try and instead ordered the Farfalle pasta with shrimp. The portion size was perfect and the ingredients fresh, but honestly this was my least favorite part of the meal and experience - it was over spiced with pepper flakes that overpowered otherwise subtle flavors and was just nothing to write home about. But the bread pudding? Can we stop and talk for a while about this dessert? Best shared - even my over-zealous sweet tooth couldn't finish it though desperately wanted to. They were already out of Butterhorn bread rolls when I arrived at 7:30pm on a Wednesday night, having just accommodated 40 reservations between the 6-7 hour (!!). I had read the previous reviews so was prepared for this disappointment, unlike the reviewer above who gave 1 Star (really, Dude?) for this inconvenience in spite of what I'm Sure was a lovely rest of his meal. The best part? The Rock Star bartender, Clayton. Do you want to get a secret glimpse into the life and character of a city you're visiting? Eat solo at the bar. That is where conversations and camaraderie flow organically. Clayton designs his own cocktail recipes with his own hand-mixed and distilled liqueurs made of fruit peels, sugars, secret ingredients, and love. I was a lucky patron to be offered a taste of a few, including a fresh traditional Italian limoncello and a smooth blossom of triple sec - each so smooth and authentic they made for handsome digestifs and happily delayed my departure. To put a final stitch in his superstardom, Clayton ran a full block after me shouting my name in order to hand-deliver my forgotten left-over bread pudding container. Did I stumble into a Cary Grant movie or am I in Bismarck, North Dakota? Way to make an impression on this foody Westerner, Butterhorn; way to steal a small space in her heart. Cheers. Note: the restaurant may want to update the dollar signs indicating average cost of the meals just for transparency sake. This is definitely a three-$$$ restaurant, not two-$$.

Yelp
Probably the worst burger I've ever had. I went there with my boyfriend for a lovely dinner out, only to be taken to a corner table in the basement, next to a drunken party of bachelorette's . Cute. Ordered the classic burger on the menu, with high hopes, only to bite into a dry, unseasoned patty. Not to forget the dense burger bun- Literallly like chewing rubber. In my dinner, there was also little chunks of arteries or something of that sort. The only thing pleasant about that experience was the waitress. Definite no.

Yelp
Coming to ND for the 1st time my expectations were admittedly a bit low for quality food, but Butterhorn provided an exquisite experience. $13 for the Roman meatballs and grilled bread? SO worth it. Then I had the red snapper--and that may look pricey but the portion did not disappoint and the preparation was excellent. I was quite satisfied after all that but opted for the basil strawberry tart since I may not be in ND for a few months. I blew my travel meal budget, but this was well worth the expense!

Yelp
Excellent new eatery in Downtown Bismarck. Upscale atmosphere with fine linen and appropriate glassware for each wine that was served. The menu is simple with a focus on organic ingredients and entree items that fit into what America's heartland embraces. The service was friendly and quite helpful in selecting our appetizer/dinner choices. I started with the squash soap which was very creamy and tasted very fresh. I then had a beet salad which was very unique for me because the sliced beets were raw instead of cooked. For my entree I tried the short rib pasta. This was very delicious with the sauce not overly seasoned and the portion size somewhat small but quite satisfying. The other three people in our group had the gnocchi and were very satisfied with their dinner. The presentation was excellent and served hot as it should be. There are some original and unique desserts to consider but I passed this time. This was our first visit and we were quite impressed with the restaurant overall. I am looking forward to going back soon.
