Yelp
A most appropriately named burger joint in an industrial section just off the SR-99 on E. North Avenue that is getting rave reviews about its juicy, butter-toasted burgers and chicken sandwiches. A fresh, juicy beef patty served on a buttered toasted potato bun. This is always a terrific, winning concept especially if the beef is fresh and great quality as it is here.
What is so special about swapping out the usual [white] hamburger bun with a potato bun? The potato bun has the same fluffy, airy texture as plain white hamburger buns but has a slightly sweet, potato taste to it. So, they taste wonderful when lightly toasted and buttered as they are served here. Plus, potato bread is healthier for you too because potato flour has more potassium and dietary fiber than regular flour.
In actuality, the taste of a potato bun on a burger is very neutral but makes the burger feel lighter and pillow-soft. This makes the burgers extra special and even more appealing I think.
The Chipotle Burger, $9.88, is made with house sauce, grilled onions, cheese, and jalapeno peppers. There was just enough heat from the peppers and that classic combination of cheese and jalapenos always goes together so well with meat. But my favorite is the Classic Burger, $9.88, which is made with house sauce, cheese, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. I added some bacon to mine. I love a great no-frills bacon cheeseburger.
I thought the beef patty was well-seasoned although a tad salty. The meat was so fresh and juicy, however, and I would come back time and again for the Classic Burger. The prices for the burgers alone are around $10, which is extremely reasonable nowadays for what you are getting.
They also serve chicken sandwiches on potato buns and classic sandwiches on ciabatta rolls, in addition to a breakfast menu that consists of breakfast bagels, muffins, burritos, and avocado toast.
The fries are shoestring style, well-seasoned, and fried extra crispy.
Only the freshest quality ingredients are used and everything is made to order so expect to tack on a few extra minutes to your wait from what you would expect from a typical fast-food burger place where many of the menu items are pre-made.
For take-out orders, they will pack it in an eco-friendly bagasse blend take-out container to keep the burger or sandwich intact and the juices from seeping and spilling into the bag.
So far, a big 4.5 stars for me.
I am not ready to supplant my favorite burger joint in Fresno with Buttery Buns as the top spot but they have competition now. It does deserve to be mentioned in the conversations of the best burgers in the Central Valley I have tried so far.
