Buvette de la Halle

We had a wonderful meal of veal stew (axoa de veau). It was absolutely delicious! It has a very flavorful but not spicy hot sauce. It is made with the pimento d'Espelette (a local pepper seasoning). This restaurant does not accept credit cards so have your euros handy. There may be a short line but it moved fast for us. In our case, they didn't have a table fot two but offered to seat us with the Parisienne couple behind us if everyone agreed. It was fun. They were most gracious with my fumbling with French. All in all a terrific experience.

Food is very good. It’s cooked with good quality tasty products. We tried salads, sardines, tuna, desserts I love their oysters

Poor service and average food. Ordered five dishes, of which only one showed up after repeated reminders and a 30 minute wait, standing at the counter. They denied us a seat at the restaurant, even when plenty of seats were available. We could see other folks being seated, who arrived well after us.

Just don’t wait from this place to be a restaurant. It’s a place in the food market where you can try best fish soup (from the early morning they prepare it from fresh local fish in a very big casseróle). Sardines and frites, mussels and salads. Just as simple and fresh as it can be. It’s better to come no later than 14.00 and enjoy the real village place with market atmosphere and red chairs. No credit cards, no extra expectations, but great opportunity to feel the spirit of locals and ocean citizens

I wish google had the option for us local guides to give a 0 because this place would definitely get not only one. Without hesitating I could say that this was one of the worst places I’ve been on. I would like to start with the food. Overpriced and inedible. We ordered mussels, sardines, 2 beef steaks, 2 glasses of wine, 2 syrups with water. When the food arrived (which arrived 30 minutes after we ordered it) it was cold and it’s quality was not good at all. And for that piece of trash we are they charged us 74 euros which would be a good price for something that tastes good but it was horrible. The waiters saved the place from being hell. But the restaurant was dirty and greasy. And don’t even make me talk about the bathroom(there was only one), it was horrible but at that point I wasn’t surprised considering the level of the place. One of the worst restaurants I’ve been on and it doesn’t represent basque food at all.

Attracted because part of the local market, although the service showed immediately quite rude. A big part of the menu listed on the blackboard was actually not available, even though it was only 13:00 of a Monday. Tried to order the vegetarian option, which was listed with its price as the other mains, but was told it was only a side and not possible to have by itself. It was not even good...

The place looked nice at first, but when we sat down, he realized we weren’t French and treated us in a derogatory and racist way without any apparent reason. On top of that, he mocked us in French with other customers, not knowing that we understood what he was saying. The service was terrible, and we left because of the contempt with which we were treated.

Amazing! This is such a unique establishment. Right on a corner of the Halles market. With a tiny bar to the market, a beautiful small dining room, and a terrace. The food is just perfect. Grilled shrimps, mussels with wine and butter, fish soup, grilled sardines, oysters -so tasty and buttery that is hard to believe-, tuna, and a few other things. All made with love and wisdom. It is run by a small team. Everyone here is not only nice, but also energized. The food is so rich, but beyond that, it is a holistic experience. Don't miss this one!
