The Best Wine Bars in Athens, Greece

"A red-wine lover's paradise: By the Glass. With 200 wines by the glass to try, it’s easy to understand how this Syntagma wine bar got its name. Enter through the marble-floored arcade to reach the entrance to the high-ceilinged space. Or, in warmer months, cross the street to Rallou Manou Square. There, behind an old stone church, you’ll find a large outdoor seating area, which is presided over by a stone statue paying homage to the unknown architect. Along with indigenous Greek varieties (try the Moschofilero from Boutari, a floral white wine), the list highlights international grapes, such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc, being grown in Greek terroir. There’s also a separate reserve list with quite a number of older vintages, especially red wines such as Xinomavro."

Excellent service. I ate a kinoa salad and it was one of the best I ve ever had. My friend took a glass of wine which was also very nice. I would recommend reservation though after 9pm

What a terrible disappointment!! Very upsetting . In for a Glass of Assyrtiko wine and took one recommended by bar man. The bill for two glasses of wine each at 17:00 today was164 euros. No indication of the cost. This is appalling . Please be careful as this has certainly been a negative experience. This type of service lets a nice place down. Shame…

Dinner at Bistro by the Glass in Athens was absolutely delightful! The staff were welcoming, kind, and very helpful in guiding us to choose the perfect wine—Plano Malagousia, which paired wonderfully with the meal. The chicken was cooked to perfection, and the cheese and charcuterie board was exceptional. We’ll definitely be coming back!

What a gorgeous building this is in, really adds to the atmosphere! We were there on a quiet Monday lunchtime to wait out some poor weather, and lucky to have the owner choose some glasses of wine for us from the very very extensive menu. Really great wines and service. Had a light bite from the menu, very high end delicious cooking with some vegan/veggie options. Definitely recommend this place.

Lovely service and very good food. The wine list was impressive, with plenty of great options to choose from. The music choices created a nice, atmospheric vibe. I strongly recommend this place — perfect both for couples and for groups.

Visited from nearby hotel and had awful experience. Sat inside for 10 mins but nobody would take our order for drinks. Four different waiting staff came round but on trying to order drinks we were told someone else would be coming shortly to take the order. Completely disorganised place. There are some other much friendlier excellent bars only about 200 meters away from this place

The restaurant is well dedigned in an elegant way and is hidden from the overall "beauty" of the surroundings. I went there for a business dinner but I dont think there would be much difference if it was privately. Went there @18.30 and left @22.30 having just finished the dessert. There were long waiting times even for a beer (not all of the to be fair) - we had the food around 21.00 although we didnt delay the order. The steak (veal) was well cooked but nothing special in terms of taste. Salad was better. Pinsa good but rather small. Dessert was interesting but only the pastry, sorbet chocolate so and so. Overall I dont believe it was worth the price the company paid and I would most probably wouldn't choose it myself again. Variety of beers was reduced as opposed to wines, but since we didnt opt for wine I cannot say anything.
