The Most Colorful Hotels in the World, From Morocco to Guatemala

"Just a few miles outside of Verona, the Byblos Art Hotel is a 16th-century villa in the alluring wine district of Valpolicella. Architect Michele Sanmichelo transformed the property from ruins of a Roman “casa forte” to a Venetian villa—and with the help of famous architect and designer Alessandro Mendini, the space was also converted into a captivating museum of contemporary art. Home to various works of world-famous artists including Marina Abramovic, Sandro Chia, and Sol Lewitt, the space is a magnet for colors to work and play together. The hallway, for example, is a stimulating art installation in and of itself created by artist Mariangela Levita. Here, bright splashes of pink, yellow, orange, and blue all bounce off each other playfully. Each suite is also filled with vibrant colors of various shades. Combined with plastic shapes and marble elements from the 17th century, the suites have a vivid and transformative style that is incomparable." - Jessica Chapel

Byblos Art Hotel Villa Amistà (San Pietro in Cariano, Veneto) 16 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"We’ve seen design hotels, and we’ve seen fashion hotels, but the Byblos Art Hotel Villa Amistà is more than this: it’s also something like a museum, a showcase for a family’s impressive collection of 20th-century design objects and contemporary artworks, right down to the gallery-style placards in every room listing the pieces contained within." - Tablet Hotels

This was the most unique hotel and dinner we have experienced in our world travels! We were charmed by our driver, Vitolo, welcomed by Riccardo at our reception, and served by Elana with perfect attention. The hotel’s contemporary art collection could be exhibited in any fine art museum or gallery; in fact, the collection was enhanced with the furnishings, lighting and stenciled walls and ceilings. Our room was spacious, comfortable and imaginatively decorated. As we walked the grounds, every space surprised us: flowers, trees, gazebos, water features, vine-covered loggia…Finally, the piece de resistance was our dinner created by Chef Mattia Bianchi—sublime. We absolutely loved our stay.

This is our second time to Byblos Art Hotel, for a reason. The property is fantastic, a combination of Villa and a lovely curated modern art museum.||What makes it stand out are the people who work here, all lovely and fantastic. Riccardo at the reception, was very helpful helping us dealing with all small details. ||Finally, the food is absolutely amazing. Ristorante Amista is a michelin starred restaurant, but it combines classic Veronese cooking with everything you would except from such a restaurant. Chefs Simone and Mattia have created a top notch menu.||I could go on, and I certainly missing people who were amazing, and we will certainly return for a third time.

Wild and wacky hotel full of bright and graphic modern art. Very much a statement place, and only really suitable if you like the modern art world. Staff were helpful but it did take about 15 minutes to get drinks ordered on the terrace, despite letting staff know we were wanting to order. Room service was excellent, but breakfast a bit of a disappointment. Hotel about 30 minutes from town, but free shuttle busses provided till 7:30pm by the hotel for guests.

Byblos Art Hotel is an exquisite 5 star property!||The team was extremely polite, professional and attentive. |The hotel is beautiful inside and out. I loved waking up to the rooster every morning and seeing them running around the property :)||All the team members we encountered had gone above and beyond. A big thank you to Riccardo and the front office team, the two young servers in the lobby bar, the lovely shuttle drivers, the housekeeping team who handled our room with such care and the F&B team for an amazing breakfast experience. ||Thank you again team Byblos, we will definitely be back next time we are in Valpolicella!

Such a special treat to stay at this hotel. The art is amazing. The room was spectacular. The breakfast buffet interesting and varied. The service was great. The towels were the softest I've ever experienced. The pool was so luxurious. The only criticism... change the poolside music (!). I dunno how the pool staff cope listening to the same, same, same bland music over and over. The pre-opera restaurant food is very good. Personally, we'd not go back to the fancy restaurant- its soulless and a bit too funky, although well cooked. The chef came round to say hello though, which was nice.

A truly unique hotel ,more like staying in a living art gallery than a typical hotel. Stunning design, brilliant service, and special thanks to Mr Andrea, Head of Marketing, who went out of his way to help us. Rooms are stylish but note there’s no tea-making facilities, no iron/board, and only an espresso capsule machine. And no room service after midnight. Still, a memorable stay and we’ll definitely return one day.

I cannot recommend this hotel, mainly because the value for money is simply outrageous. For the rates they charge, the overall experience is nowhere near acceptable.|Breakfast was shockingly poor: the selection was small, the quality disappointing, and the scrambled eggs were practically liquid. The shower in our room was blocked, full of limescale and mold in the corners. As a couple, we were given just one small blanket (about 1.40 x 2 m), wrapped only in loose bed sheets that came undone, leaving us with an uncovered duvet. When we asked for another blanket, we were only provided with yet another sheet.|The pool service was chaotic and slow – waiting endlessly for something as simple as a drink. Speaking of drinks: prices are absurd. €20 for a simple long drink is unjustifiable, especially given the quality, and room service adds another €15 surcharge on top of already overpriced items. The room itself was underwhelming: very basic for the price, with a cheap TV that only receives Italian channels and no international options. The minibar was poorly stocked and honestly felt like an afterthought.|To be fair, the architecture of the villa and the gardens are beautiful, and the staff themselves are friendly and do try their best. But unfortunately, these positives cannot make up for the many flaws. The hotel positions itself as luxury, but what you actually get feels careless, outdated, and massively overpriced.

Gorgeous and unique experience. We loved being just outside Verona especially as that gave us access to a pool and AC during a very hot week. Having a car was key - we did our city touring during the day then took advantage of some amazing restaurants outside of town at night. There are a few nearby and in the hotel. Only negative - AC in our room wasn’t great overnight and TV didn’t work.
