This is an interesting small museum. It has some beautiful icons from the 17th and 16th century, and a bit on the history of the area. The tickets are five euros for adults and three euros for children. I’m giving three stars for the state of the bathroom/toilet. There is no toilet seat in the men’s room, and no toilet paper. And the door does not lock. This is unacceptable for a museum that charges people money. The management needs to improve this situation.

A Hidden Treasure of Byzantine Glory The Byzantine Museum of Ioannina, beautifully located within the Its Kale citadel, is a true gem for anyone passionate about art, history, and spirituality. Housed in a former Ottoman building with stunning views over Lake Pamvotida, the museum holds a rich collection of icons, mosaics, manuscripts, and sacred relics from the Byzantine and post-Byzantine eras. Each room feels like a journey through centuries of faith, craftsmanship, and cultural fusion, with detailed explanations and a peaceful ambiance that invites contemplation. The blend of Byzantine solemnity and local Epirus character makes this museum unique. It’s not large, but it’s deeply atmospheric and wonderfully curated. A must-visit for anyone exploring the castle complex—and a perfect place to feel the spiritual heartbeat of Ioannina’s past.

A lot to see. It could be a bit more interactive in order nowadays teens to be also inspired but overall a great place!

Download the free audio guide (Proxitour) and bring headphones. Not sure why they don't advertise it, but it gives you so much more depth to what you're seeing. The ticket gives you access to the treasury (silversmithing work nearby: not the silver working museum) and the Mosque, which explains who Ali Pasha is. With the audio guide, you get information on all three sites, and if you listen to everything could easily spend 1.5-2 hours wandering around the complex. Without it, it might take you 30 minutes?

A beautiful building, part of the Ic Kale Acropolis. Unfortunately, we didn't have the time to visit it, but just seeing its wonderful architecture along with the other landmarks of Ic Kale from the outside is worth it!

We just sat outside and explored the fortress. Very beautiful view of the ocean, nice benches and there's a nice cafe.

It has byzantine paintings and pilar capitals and the byzantine history of the area witch flourished from the 13th century. The exhibition is turning in to a bit outadet. For a byzantine museum its ok. With the same ticket you can visit the mosque and the tresury buildings by the museum (witch are very intresting) and its on the nice area of the castle. Easily combines with the silvermaking museum on the same area. All in all its a nice visit.
