This is a fairly new museum that opened in 2018 and it has a hugely important and valuable collection of Christian religious artifacts that were scattered and abandoned in various churches that were derelict all around the area.
The district of Magnesia were mount Pelion and the village of Macrynitsa is located, had closed ties with the west because of the port in the city of Volos. This close ties influenced the locals and that affected art as well so artists like painters where heavily influenced from the west painting techniques and that shows at the amazing and unique paintings that are so different to the traditional Byzantine technique.
The museum has a great collection of religious regalia and paraphernalia as well.
Don’t skip on this stunning museum during your visit in Makrynitsa, the work that has been done is awesome and it so worths a visit regardless of your religious beliefs.
