Ca' Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art

I’m usually not a big fan of modern art, but Ca’ Pesaro quite surprised me. The museum is housed in a stunning Baroque palace close to the Grand Canal. The main galleries focus on late 19th- and early 20th-century art, with works by Klimt, Chagall, Kandinsky, and a few Italian futurists. Some pieces are strange or heavy, but the setting gives them a new kind of beauty — the contrast between the ornate ceilings and the bold modern art really works. What impressed me most, though, was the Oriental Art collection upstairs. Samurai armor, Japanese swords, delicate ceramics, and Buddhist sculptures — all beautifully displayed and completely unexpected in the middle of Venice. Very impresive collection. Museum is not crowded, you can enjoy your own space while contemplating art a front of you.

Unfortunately the museum was a bit of a letdown. The entire Oriental museum is closed off but we read this on the site so we expected it. We still paid the full price even if 1/3 of the museum was inaccessible. Staff was not really welcoming but that’s fine. I came for the art, not to be treated like a king. The museum itself was alright but felt a bit small. I was mainly looking forward to seeing Kandinsky but his piece was not in display, this was never communicated unfortunately. The bar was not good honestly, but again, i’m rating the museum, not the bar. Maybe it’s better when renovation works are done and the Kandinsky hangs at the collection floor. 3/5 for now.

Beautiful museum with something for everyone, really enjoyed my visit. Staff were really helpful and I saw everything from The Thinker in real life which made my day, to Gallileo in lego. Well laid out, plenty of places to sit if your legs are tired or you want to take a moment to appreciate the most amazing works. Highly highly recommend xx

A small modern art collection. Of special interest is a piece by Gustav Klimt. Also contains an exhibition an Asia on the top floor.

A nice museum in a magnificent palace, well worth a visit. Since the museum was established much later than museums of "modern art" in other major Italian cities, its collection of 19th century art is very small, but it holds some major paintings from late 19th and early 20th century. Amazing exhibition of huge murals by Giulio Sartorio. Museum café is a hidden gem, with a terrace facing Grand Canal.

Fantastic collection of modern art in fabulous building. The famous Klimt (Judith II) is to die for. Wonderful "Neue Sachlichkeit" style paintings by Antonio Donghi (1897-1963). There was also a great Armando Testa (1917-1992) exhibition. The café right on the Canal Grande is beautiful and probably the nicest café in Venice. Beautiful Oriental Art museum on the 3rd floor. And nice gift store.

A quiet oasis tucked away in a busy city. I only visited because it was included in the museum pass. I'm glad I did. The highlight was the asian collection. The cafe has a lovely view.

Writing this in English for all the international tourists: it just happened, I'm baffled, honestly just skip it. We didn't have the opportunity to even enter the museum. After you enter the glass doors on the left, you are immediately at the ticket office but before you can approach for the tickets you need to have your bags searched/security checked, and no complainings here Mind you, I'm Italian, so no issue with communication or anything of the sort: Me: hi, we would like to do the tickets Security guy: your bookbags are too big Me: ok, do you have lockers where we can put our stuff? Free of charge or not, we don't care Security guy: yes,we do have lockers, but you can't arrive at the lockers because you need to enter and I can't let you enter with those big bags Me: I'm sorry, you have lockers but we can't use them/reach them? Him: yes, I see we have an issue in communication, the lockers are inside and I can't let you reach their location, so you should find by yourself some lockers outside/ in the city Ticket lady: yes I'm sorry, it's like this, the Prefecture is not giving us permission All of this with an extremely arrogant tone, definitely not customer service oriented let alone "kind" or "mortified" in any sort. Now, I did search for ANY info on the museum website's regarding this and there is none. You have lockers that are unreachable for me? That's poor planning on where to put them on your part, and learn some manners on how to treat customers/clients Adding a picture of the bookbag for reference

Start off by saying most of the art and exhibits were pretty cool not all of it was to my taste, but I'm sure somebody liked some of it. One star rating is because one of the art babysitter at one of the exhibits decided it was appropriate to scream at me from only 3 m away. Because I stuck my head through a hole in the blinds to look out the window. The hole was already there, and I was not touching the art. And frankly, the view through the hole of Venice was much better than any of the shitty modern art they had on display. Most of the art babysitters use their indoor voices, but this one was inappropriate yelled at the top of her lungs. For some reason, she wasn't wearing the normal babysitter outfit that the rest of the babysitters, wear. And then took it upon herself to follow me throughout the installation standing only 1 m behind me breathing down my neck. Until I went to the next exhibit, quite annoying and inappropriate. The rest of the art babysitters behaved appropriate. I hope you train your art babysitters better in the future. And maybe explains why there was only a handful of people at this museum to begin with if everybody gets rubbed the wrong way when walking through the exhibits.

I have to admit that I only visited this museum in order to see Gustav Klimt's Judith II. To say the least, the painting is magnificent! It was worth ten times the price of the ticket, the time and the effort of finding this museum, and the dragging of your family across Venice to get a glimpse of Klimt's masterpiece. In general however, the museum offers a very limited collection of modern artworks. Of note are Chagall, Miró, Kandinsky, Bonnard, and omnipresent sculptures of Rodin. I can't give the museum fewer than 4 stars - the pleasure of seeing Judith would make it blasphemous!

A rather limited collection that seems mostly appropriate as a break in the action from so much Renaissance art, Ca' Pesaro was stumbled upon while walking through the streets of Venice and all-in-all is worth a visit for both the modern collection as well as its Oriental wing that contains a treasure trove of antique weaponry and armour.

I've been here twice now and it's definitely worthwhile, but it's nothing magnificent like so many other offerings in Venice. The art here is more my style than much of the religious/renaissance art you find in Italy, but it was nothing that wowed me. There are a few pieces from big names like Klimt, but they are not the well known works. And on my most recent visit those pieces were on loan. I also got yelled at by one of the guards. They had a group of sculptures displayed in a circle-type arrangement, but all facing in towards each other. I wanted to see the front and there was a space between that looked like a pathway. Apparently not! You must stick to the outside edge! Although I don't see how I possibly could have hurt the metal & stone sculptures securely attached to the floor even if I did bump into one, which of course I would never do. Bonus here is that the bathrooms are through an adjacent door by the front entry, so if you needed a pit stop you could do so even without visiting the museum. But you may as well go in and get a change of pace from the typical Venetian art offerings.

This was an unexpected stop on my day trip. The backside of the museum is visible from the other side of the grand canal, but it's a maze to get to it. It's a small museum with a couple of random things: modern art on the first floor, a collection of Asian art and weapons on the third floor, and when I went, there was a special Chanel exhibit on the second floor. I went to the museum cafe for a spritz afterwards. The drink cost way too much for what it was, but it was worth it to sit right on the water.

I don't know why this museum got low marks. It has a first class permanent collection of late 19th century to mid-20th. Traveling exhibits are spectacular.

In a city where Renaissance art is king and where people come from all corners of the globe to see masterpieces by Titian and co. the museum of modern art in Venice feels slightly neglected, Maybe it's just because when we were there, it was late and it was a rainy day in November. Despite it's seemingly unpopular status it's actually a beautiful building with a collection that could easily occupy you for an hour or more. Entrance is included with the VeniceCard, but otherwise you'll have to fork out a few Euros (maybe 5?) to get in. The Café looked very nice with a charming view over the Grand Canal, but as it was late (it closes at 5.30pm and we got there at 4.45pm) it wasn't open. There's quite an eclectic selection of works, many are by Italian artists, and everything is exhibited in such a way as to make it very accessible and digestible. If you're a fan of 20th century art then I would definitely recommend a visit it's a nice break from all the religious imagery and floaty paintings that provide the artistic backbone of Venice. There's also a collection of oriental art but we didn't have time to look at it.

The ca Pesaro museum owns some beautiful pieces of modern art. Here you can find klimt's Giuditta II for instance that worths alone the price ticket. But I had the impression that this big building is...how can I say... Quite left alone...getting there is, as typical for Venice more a luck thing then else... It's a huge and beautiful building but in some ways not treated as it should be.
