My family hosted a rehearsal dinner in the private event space upstairs then continued the party at the tiki bar our back. It was a fantastic night and Cabana exceeded all expectations! The food was absolutely incredible - we could not stop thinking and talking about it. The space was beautiful with such a fun vibe. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. The prices were excellent for the quality of the meals. I got nonstop compliments for picking such a great spot. 1000% recommend!

Google
It is an okay choice. The drinks were good and probably the best thing about the meal. The staff was really nice and service was fast and good. Food was out fast when ordered. The food was good, not amazing. The presentation was nice and everything was cooked perfectly, but it was just okay.

Food, drinks, music, vibe and friendliness of the staff were amazing! Ethan is THE BEST bartender! He offered thoughtful suggestions based on our likes. Our server Patrick was friendly, kind, and patient with us and his other tables! Highly recommend any drink Ethan makes especially the key lime shot!

Google

Google
The menu isn’t consistent with what is posted online; we went to the restaurant and found that their menu was much more limited than what was posted online. we were told this issue would be resolved in a matter of days/weeks, once they were able to hire a new chef. I’m reluctant to even post this review, because I don’t want to turn anyone away from here - the food and drinks are generally very good. I just want to make sure everyone has a heads up that as it stands at the moment (Aug. 12), the menu is fairly limited and this is not reflected online.

Google
Absolutely fantastic! Ethan was our bartender and gave us the best advice in what to eat and drink. The plantain fried with spicy aoli was the best!! Pastry chef Abigail is a genius with that key lime pie dessert. (Make that a starter, trust me.). Great cocktails, fun vibe.

Google
Our continued strategy of stumbling along the main drag until we find a cool place paid off once again! Very neat restaurant that is far cooler than it looks from the outside. The 'cabana' in the back (wonder where that name came from?) Is very chill and a great place to hang out. The food was good, the beer was cold, and the staff was on it. Would recommend!

Yelp
We booked our MDW GNO at Cabana ... loved the Caribbean style interior and music was fun.. food and drinks were nothing to brag about but kept us satisfied. The location was great as you still get the downtown Newport feel without all of the hustle and bustle of Thames. Service was on the slower slide but given it was a holiday weekend I'm sure other restaurants were in the same boat.

Yelp
First of all, everyone who works here is very attractive. Wondering if that is a requirement (kind of kidding). The restaurant itself has great ambiance. Very cute, nothing fancy though, If that's what you're looking for. One of us got the heirloom tomato salad as a meal, that was our mistake as it is probably meant to be an appetizer. As an appetizer it would have probably been fine, but as a meal, probably 3.5 out of 5. Just to note: pine nuts are on it but not mentioned on the menu. Probably only relevant for people with an allergy. The salad was pretty acidic, and small for a meal. But again, as an appetizer, probably fine. The spicy watermelon margarita was great. Had the chicken tacos which come with rice. The rice was nothing special at all, but the tacos were a 4.5/5. I did ask for hot sauce to give it a little more excitement but it was busy, so I never got any. Our waiter was Ethan and he was nice and helpful with what to order. I'd go back. There is also parking in the back of the restaurant which is important in Newp

Yelp
I am A local ex bartender and ex waitress and I will never go back there the. food was absolutely delicious regardless . The tiki bartender was rude I have never experienced anything like it and never will want that experience again I can tell you one hundred other places to go that you would feel welcomed. Tonight I dI'd not feel welcomed in my own hometown and won't go back ever!!!

Jenn G.

Yelp
Great spot! The patio area and outdoor tiki bar is awesome. The food was excellent. We tried the jerk chicken skewers, chopped salad with a tuna steak, and the fried chicken sandwich- everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. Super fresh, super high quality. They serve their tiki cocktails in fun glassware. Lastly, the service was perfect: friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Probably the best service we've had in NPT in a while. We'll be back!

Yelp
GF came across this place online somehow because usually we're basic bitches and go to the places with a gazillion reviews. The main appeal was the copious vegetarian options on their menu. We had actually planned on going to another very popular restaurant in the area but that didn't work out, nor did our back up. We started making the trek up to Cabana from the main shit are but we were interrupted by tortential downpours that remind me of my Caribbean medical school days which just seemed appropriate for the Caribbean vibe this place is going for. I was very pleased by both the drink menu and the vegetarian options. I was eyeing the painkiller with rum, cream of coconut, orange, and pineapple juice but couldn't resist the frozen pina colada which was spectacular and with none of the fake bullshit artificial-tasting pina colada mixer business. It was worth the exorbitant calories I'm sure it contains. GF ordered the painkiller which gave me an opportunity to sample it. It was enjoyable but I preferred mine. They have some intriguing starters and salads but because we decked into another restaurant en route during one of the monsoons earlier, I was running out of gastric space and elected to go with the street tacos which are three flour tortillas surrounding avocado mash, cilantro onions, shredded cabbage, jalapeño, salsa verde, crema, lime, and served alongside red beans and yellow rice. The tacos come with your choice of protein and the most exciting part about this is that their protein choices include CRISPY TOFU. The tofu is actually extremely crispy, they aren't fucking around there. I'm actually curious to know how exactly they make it so crispy. Even tofu dislikers like my Dad ("it's just too mushy") would enjoy this. I requested my tacos without onions which they were able to accommodate without incident. Hell actually froze over on this particular night because I didn't have much of an appetite and only put down one of the tacos. They were good with a solid combo of flavors and textures but I just wasn't feeling that vibe tonight. I did thoroughly enjoy the fuck out of the rice and beans and that shit didn't stand a chance. GF ordered the lemon thyme roasted salmon with fingerling potatoes, asparagus, cauliflower served with roasted garlic kale pesto. I took one of the team and helped her out with the vegetables which were all tasty and the pesto added a little something extra. We also were slutty bitches and ordered a side of their wasabi mashed potatoes because how could you not???? The mashed potatoes were to die (and immune to my appetite issue lmao) They were warm and creamy heaven but my only complaint is that they didn't taste much like wasabi in flavor or in heat. It is an interesting concept but it wasn't entirely pulled off. Again, don't think I didn't lick the bowl clean. Our server also provided excellent service, He checked on us frequently, put up with a neighboring patron who was insufferable, and was very kind and friendly. The vibe was dimly lit but tropically decorated. All things considered, this is a solid option. EDIT: after attempting to eat the leftover taco it occurred to me that there are in fact onions in here and is likely the reason I wasn't super into them. Bummer that they couldn't comply with my request.

Yelp
Limited menu and pricey I would not go back Salvation was better and Caleb is much less expensive

Stephanie T.

Yelp
Stopped by one day for dinner, but just decided to just get apps. I heard the menu had a Caribbean twist- but it all seemed pretty standard for the Newport area. Mojito and calami were good- nothing special though.

Lena G.

Yelp
If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Terrible service. The manager (Kane?) argues with you. They won't change your silverware between aps and entrees, even if you request it and have a dirty plate. There are plenty of other amazing places around with great food and customer service

chad n.

Yelp
They ruined my anniversary they didn't even open got there lights were off google and their website said they were open. Had reservations couldn't even be bothered to call and say they wouldn't be open.

Seth G.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. I think Cabana is an improvement over the previous Salvation Cafe. The interior renovations and updated menu are nicer, more classic. We tried cocktails, oysters, calamari, swordfish, steak frites , and two desserts. All were nicely prepare, delicious, and good value. Highly recommend trying Cabana, even if you weren't a fan of Salvation.

Jeff M.

Yelp
According to the sign in the window, they're closed here until March. (Does anyone remember Salvation closing in the off season?)

Kevin O.

Yelp
So-so. Came on a Thursday night, and had a fine experience, but the food was nothing special and the service was amateurish. Our waiter interrupted us to check on how we were enjoying things a half dozen times, but then made us wait for 20 minutes after we boxed up our leftovers before bringing us the check. Likely a good breakfast spot, but you can do better for dinner in Newport.

Mike R.

Yelp
First time here on a food tour. Signature cocktail and app was awesome. Fun Island vibe, lots of Kenny Cheaney Blue Chair Bay drinks. Fun place

Wyatt Z.

Yelp
Great ambiance, drinks, and service! The outdoor tiki bar is the perfect place to get a drink on a nice day.

Erica S.

Yelp
This place is amazing .... For the absolute win!!!! ETHAN is the bomb and you should go the back bar... he will take care of you with a fabulous smile and positive attitude!!! Will totally come here again .

Cory N.

Yelp
Cabana is my go to spot for a fantastic cocktail and a solid meal every time. I'm not a rum guy but they make everything from their full bar. I particularly enjoy my cosmos and the bartenders surprise drinks. I often eat the special, everything and there isn't much I don't like from the menu. This is my favorite place to go in Newport. My training group also used their back room for an event. They're outdoor space is epic too. I would come here any chance I can. Ty for being my spot. Guys!!

Kelly D.

Yelp
Dinner was good; our food was enjoyable, but not great. The quality of the meal alone would warrant about 3.5 stars. The service was enjoyable and our waiter was very kind and attentive. I left a 20% tip and left overall content. Fast forward two weeks. I'm casually checking my bank statement and notice the charge for my meal seems higher than I remember. Weirdly, I still had my receipt tucked into a pair of jeans. I compared the two charges and noticed that the restaurant had taken it upon themselves to DOUBLE the tip that I left. I have eaten bad meals, endured terrible service, and left restaurants dissatisfied, all without taking time to leave a bad review. But if you DELIBERATELY rip me off, you deserve the bad rating. Other diners, beware. I wouldn't give this dishonest establishment my business.

Elina P.

Yelp
Bad service, dripping ac , manager Kane argued about an extra drink that was charged and refused to adjust bill; server was reluctant to provide extra silver ware when requested. Food ws average . Will not come back and disgusted with the level and f service provided

John P.

Yelp
I think it's a great space, good specials, and the outdoor patio is a plus. I just can't figure out why it always appears empty. I hope more people discover Cabana, it deserves more support.

Lucia J.

Yelp
I was really excited to check out Cabana because I loved Salvation. The whole decor and vibe is great, and am hopeful that things will improve once they get a little more times under their belt. The lobster BLT was incredible and definitely the best thing ordered at our table. The other food (esp. ceviche and Street tacos) was honestly pretty bland and needed more distinctive flavoring. Coconut shrimp tasted good, but was over fried. The wine glasses are fun and funky, but not much wine for $16/glass. Again - I am very hopeful Cabana will iron out the wrinkles and improve. There are a lot of positives (esp. the vibe and lobster BLT), but still needs some work. Plan to give it another try una month or so.

Stoddard W.

Yelp
Just bad. Everything tasted like it was accidentally sprayed with cleaning fluid. We couldn't understand it, just a chemical aftertaste on pretty much everything. Service was great though, and the atmosphere is great.

Sam B.

Yelp
Cute restaurant that is far larger than it looks from the outside. Our waitress was wonderful, and everything we ordered was yummy including the jambalaya, swordfish, jerk chicken, calamari, cheese trio, and kale salad. The prices were not unreasonable for the Newport area

Margaret H.

Yelp
PSA: You want to come to Cabana! They are new. They are chill. Incredibly fun atmosphere, drinks are SOLID. GET off Thames & hit the real world of Newport.

Linda W.

Yelp
Four of us had dinner at an outside table in the Tiki Bar patio. The atmosphere was lovely with a neat bar and outside tables. I was glad we didn't sit in the garden room because the music seemed loud. This is the former Salvation Cafe. We had appetizers of calamari which was delicious! The ceviche was good but it was served as a dip with half a large plate of fried corn chips(very tasty.) For entrees the jambalaya was very good and spicy. The jerk chicken was good but had a lot of skin on it. I thought the vegetable curry with rice and shrimp as an add on was exceptional! It was very tasty with a great sauce, tons of veggies and huge. I took half home. We split a key lime dessert In a small glass cup with vanilla ice cream and lime zest. Excellent. I would go back for sure. Good price point, excellent service and neat atmosphere!

John D.

Yelp
$17 for a chicken sandwich? Come on now. I watch wholesale food and commodity prices monthly(restaraunt cost for food by Sysco etc.). Wholesale prices are finally dropping again especially on chicken, which is now back to pre Covid prices! But restaurants like this are keeping the mark ups at peak Covid levels still. That is NOT cool.

Barbara D.

Yelp
this is just a no. Nothing works here. Oh except the linguine with clam sauce which has nothing to do with the cabana theme- caribbean style food? Just goes to show Rhode Island can do Italian and everything else is a stretch-- dont waste your time.

Chantalle J.

Yelp
The environment is perfect. Cal is the sweetest bartender and the drinks are amazing. Good price and food. 10/10!

Grace J.

Yelp
My new favorite restaurant in Newport! The drinks were delicious, the service was amazing and the food was unreal. The filet mignon literally melted in my mouth, if you need a tasty meal, Cabana is the place to go!

Madison B.

Yelp
The service and drinks at Cabana were amazing! A very fun beachy vibe in the heart of Newport! Loved it!
