We had a great time at cabana Pietrele - perfect location for hikes and serves hot food. Accommodation was good for a mountain cabin. You have to leave your car in the carpark and hike for an hour and half to get to it. You also have to pay to enter Retezat National Park (10lei per person) Food - hot soup every day with a choice of two mains and pickled salad. Beer and țuică for alcohol. Otherwise tea and soft drinks. Accommodation - rooms with two single beds, I would recommend bringing ear plugs as people arrive from their hikes at different times Also advised to bring a headlight/torch Cold water only for showers Electricity from 8-10pm only but this is enough to charge your phone for a whole day. The area doesn't have any signal anyway so you won't be using your phone for anything except pictures. You can hike up to cabana gențiana for signal.

place looked closed from the outside, however after opening the door and shouting a view times the owner showed up and prepared a delicious soup for us. Room was very nice two comfy single beds in one small room with a window for 60 RON, PP.

Vila Stânişoara offers excellent accommodation conditions: clean and organized WC and shower facilities on the ground floor, individual rooms, and electricity provided for 2 hours each evening. The dining room serves three meals a day. The friendly caretaker is always ready to chat about Retezat and life. It's easy to set off on numerous trails from here.

Simple hospitality with hard work. They have a Turkish WC at a half Kilometer distance of the canteen. The Camping place is situated one km from here and it's somehow hard to find a plane spot to mount your tent... There are no toilets near this parking place, but you have a water source nearby the "Salvamont" cabin. At the canteen they serve a good bean soup with pork, grilled meat with potatoes, beer, chocolate, coffee. For breakfast you can choose between eggs or Vrșli sausages . The electricity is available only for two hours in the evenings. You can call them to reserve a cabin room at the price of 60 Ron/ person in 2023, but the conditions are not too much better than those in a tent.

Very good food, very nice people. This is the starting point for your summer hike. The cabana is opened only from june till end of august. In the area there is NO phone service (network, signal...), that's why nobody will answer. Please make a reservation only by message and wait for the confirmation. Try at least one month before your reservation.

Mixed experience! The place is beautifully located in the mountains and well linked to different hiking routes. The huts are very basic but marginally more comfortable than camping. The staff are quite rude and unhelpful. There is no shower (we washed in the freezing cold stream) and the toilets are disgusting with no soap or paper. The food is ok but the kitchen is a little unreliable and based on the whims of the guy who works there.

Read this review if you're planning to go here . The information on the website is not correct, they never pick up the phone and they want you to make the reservation by text. If you text them be very clear on the dates amount of people and the room you want, you won't get more than an "ok" back as confirmation. They have a "villa" which they prefer to put people on, quite a few private rooms both 2 and 4 person rooms. Asside from that they have multiple houses but they prefer not to rent them unless the villa is full. Now for the review, the rooms are actually pretty good for a cabana, the reason that this place, and my review, has such a low score is because the owner is the worst owner I've ever met in a cabana. We called him 15 times for a reservation but nobody answered, then we send him a text for a reservation to be called, which is instructed on the website. When we arrived we got shouted and cursed at because we didn't have a reservation, when we mentioned that we actually tried he didn't believe us and wanted proof which serves no purpose what so ever. After lots of arguing we manages to get a room which begs to question if he even wants guests. We talked to many other people there and they all had the same experience which is remarkable. If you go there make sure to read the instructions and enjoy the stay!

The hut is exactly what you need after long hike. Dry, warm place to sleep. Good starting point for hikes in Retezat mountains. The place is not for those who expect luxury hotel though.
