On the Grid : Cabbagetown Park

"In the central part of the neighborhood, Cabbagetown Park was once the location of an Elementary School that was shut down in 1976. The land was secured by the neighborhood and the park was completed in 2005. It a gorgeous area with a lot of green space, and you're sure to see a lot of dogs. Each November, the neighborhood hosts its own Chomp and Stomp Bluegrass Festival, a competition of local chilis. If you're into an adrenaline rush, stop by for the Fourth of July fireworks." - 3 Owl Media

This garden is like a breath of fresh air in the middle of the urban hustle. It’s surprisingly quiet, despite being close to the main road. The trees are tall and lush, creating a natural canopy that provides shade even on sunny days. The walking paths are wide and stroller-friendly. A perfect spot for meditation or simply escaping noise and screens.

Cabbagetown, a historic neighborhood near Atlanta, Georgia, developed in the late 19th century as housing for workers of the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill. Its unique name is rooted in local lore, most popularly attributed to mill workers growing cabbages in their yards as a cheap food source, leading to the neighborhood smelling of the vegetable. This distinctive name reflects the area's working-class origins and tight-knit community spirit. Today it is built with new homes on the old winding Atlanta streets. You will need to stop close your eyes and take a deep breath to be able to smell cabbage town.

Beautiful little park in Cabbagetown with a nice playground. Parking is limited on the street so do park in surrounding blocks to avoid parking challenges. Nice tree cover to get away from a hot sun. Easy to walk to restaurants

Very cute little park/playground. Plenty of greenery for picnics, a short stroll around the little trail and a playground for the kiddos.

Super cute local park with a nice playground for Littles. My 2 yr old loved it

Google
One of Atlanta's cutest little neighborhood parks. There are a surprising number of amenities in this park, given its acreage. The playground is great, especially for small kids. There are nice little walking loops that come up to side streets, a nice open field, shade trees, and shaded benches.

Great community park and space. Playground is very well kept and clean. Great picnic area for fun, family and friends!

The area gives both a secluded while right in the middle of the commotion kind of feel that I enjoy. Very open, quiet, and good view of the moon at night. A nice spot to talk and relax.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I have been taking our little Pomeranian here after work in the evenings. There are always young families and other dogs for him to meet. It is a lovely, very well-maintained park. I have never seen any litter. It feels very safe to walk around, but I would not recommend walking in the surrounding area by yourself at night (if you're a female).

Yelp
Small neighborhood park, center of activity for the annual Chomp & Stomp festival (which should be on your bucket list). C-Town Park is a fine destination for a neighborhood stroll, or a place to sit and relax while you munch on whatever treat you just purchased at Sweet Cheats. It would be better if the water fountain by the big oak tree worked. Maybe these days people don't use public water fountains as much, but they should.

Yelp
This park is amazing! I'm giving it 5 stars even though it's lacking bathroom facilities. -Or maybe i just have not found them yet. -This park is muy grande. Yep. -And if they don't exist, you just can't expect everything, now can you? So every time I come here (4 times now) I discover new trees, new plants, new flowers, new paths, and simply beautiful landscaping all around that you really have to appreciate. And the most amazing and magnificent grand Oak tree(of two) that you'll ever see anywhere around here. Truly mesmerizing and the perfect photo spot, -in my humble opinion. Indeed.

Yelp
Tucked in nicely between the GPCP C-town campus and residential, this is one of the nicer parks with better than average playground equipment. Host to Chomp and Stomp, the daily deluge of kids and plenty of dogs this park delivers like the USPS. My son regularly asks me to take him to "catch-town park", bypassing the playground in our neighborhood. I enjoy a cup of coffee from across the street and can spend an hour letting the dogs and mini-me run around without worrying about cars. There's a wishing well and water fountains for people and pets. Nicely done City of Atlanta!

Yelp
Cabbagetown Park is a quintessential neighborhood park. There isn't some huge parking deck or lot where you have to pay, no snack bar, or anything like that. It's just a good park full of green space, places to have a picnic, let the dogs run, kids play, etc. It's rather pretty, too. Tack on the fact that Sweet Cheats is just across the street and you're bound to have a fine visit on your hands. There's also a pretty decent playground in the park. It looks like its a good spot for young kids with a few things for young ones. My favorite thing about this park is definitely the giant tree toward the back of the park. I'm not entirely sure the variety (though it looks like a giant oak) but it is gorgeous. Fanning out super wide without any other tree, power line, or other obstruction in its way. I just love it. It's a great park. I'm sure we'll take our kid there one old enough.

Yelp
We ran through here on our run between the Highlands and Grant Park. It's got some neat architecture and sculptures, giving it more of a planned atmosphere than many of the neighborhood parks around town. There's a playground and plenty of benches. I didn't see a water fountain, which would have been appreciated, but looking at the rendering, there should be one by the community center... will have to remember that for next time. With the change in elevation, it makes for an interesting spot with some good views. The park seems well-maintained, as in no trash, clean sidewalks in good shape, etc. Definitely worth a jog or stroll through. #Yelp365 - 301/365

Yelp
Great park for my daughter, who is almost 2. Has great slides and lots of swings and other fun things to play with. Agree with another poster...wish it had a bathroom...but it is a great playground! There is also a great tree to swing and hang from and some concrete statues to play on...and a coffee shop across the street for mommies and daddies!

Yelp
After the Romp and Stomp 5K, I nearly collapsed in Cabbagetown Park, the race's endpoint. I straddled a cement structure much like a rhino horn rising from the ground. Sweaty and dehydrated, I communed with my ancestors.

Yelp
I have to show some love for one of my neighborhood parks. One of the things I dig about C-town is that we have more random parks and churches per amount of space than any other area. I love it. Cabbagetown Park is a nice spot of land smack dab in the middle of the C. It contains some interesting structural elements that kind of remind me of turtles and a nice playground for the kiddies. There are numerous bench's on this flat piece of land and a huge old oak with a wooden swing. I love walking here with my dogs and letting them take a quick romp off leash in the park. There has been some ticket activity lately since I guess a couple of neighbors aren't quite dog friendly, but on the whole everyone I have ever met here has been nice and I have never gotten ticketed for having an off-leash dog. The one thing that would make Cabbagetown Park better is if the grass could be a bit thicker. It is pretty sparse now. This could be due to the large crowds that congregate on the grass during the chili cook off in November, but I don't really know. I just know that the grass is kind of thin. Other than that High Five Cabbagetown Park for being a cute neighborhood park that all the Cabbage heads can enjoy.
