We did a short day trip to check this place out today. I took today off (Friday), so we were able to go during the weekday when it wasn't insanely crowded.
The place is pretty massive, and has all the niceties of a tourist trap. The "general store" . The "aquarium". A nice little museum of local game. Massive Airplane hanging from ceiling, looking like it was going to do a crash landing. An old school infrared shooting gallery, as good as the one in Disneyland. And of course, the big game cafeteria.
They also have the infamous Gun Library. Here you can investigate and purchase limited edition, and historic firearms. I never saw so many pistols up close, it was pretty wild.
I like outdoor stuff, but my heart belongs to gadgets. Underwater fish TV cams, a chili roaster for the grill, which we had been looking for, for months! They even had a Power Jerky Blaster. How can you beat that? Perhaps a pink shotgun for your Future Hunteress of America? This place seems like it has everything for the outdoor enthusiast (at least everything I ever thought to look for).
The cafeteria was pretty good too. I had the wild boar sandwich. Pretty much glorified ham sandwich, but quite tasty. Jen got the fried duck wings, which were nice, crispy and tasty. The service within the cafeteria, as well as throughout the store, was quite excellent. For a cafeteria style place, it was pretty clean.
All and all it was fun day out, and ranks up there with any tourist trap in the state. Recommended!
