It's a huge store. Its has a fish aquarium and a walk thru full of different taxidermy deer and moose and elephant and Buffalo on the first and second floor. They have a cleance center as well and a little shop for jams and jersey and baked goods as well as clothing and equipment.you can easily spend 2 hours here

Google
Excellent supply store! My experience with Alan in the archery department was terrific. I didn’t know the hour I arrived at the store that his shift was nearly over. At first, it was suggested I come back the next day. I live over an hour away and if I needed to, I would have, but Alan looked at my bow, saw what I needed and took me right upstairs. Great guy! He stayed a little late to give my rig a quick tuneup and we bonded over other types of archery. One day I’ll go back and show him equipment for archery from Japan. While I’m not suggesting to keep Alan after his shift everyday, definitely go see him and his highly experienced staff for all your archery needs. They will take great care of you!

Just wanted to take the time and say thank you to the customer service and Robert up in guns and ammo section. Saved some money becoming a club member and being able to stack my military discount. Bonus: The Donuts outside of Cabelas are probably the best donuts I ever had. I wish I had bought more.

Google
Truly a sight to behold. Wall to wall taxidermy, a cool aquarium and a wide selection of products. One thing I found odd however was that the area with the African animal display had nobody checking it out. I mean, are we really gonna ignore the Elephant in the room? Seriously though, great store and I would definitely come back.

Google
I'm compelled to leave a 5 star review based on Andrew's exceptional service, specifically in the Fishing Dept. My questions were answered and explained with diligence as my wants and needs were met with pragmatic solutions. Kindness and attention to detail were a great bonus during my last trip to Cabela's (or Bass Pro, depending who you ask). Thanks for looking out Andrew, I appreciate you!

Google
For the outdoor enthusiasts. From hunting to fishing to Motorsports, they got it. The aquarium is beautiful and the displayed animals with descriptions give it the well needed edge.

Google
While it was challenging to find a person, once we did, he was great. He helped us find what we needed in the camping dept. He also assisted with a price check. My grandson could have stayed hours. Everything was neatly organized, with a great selection. The lighting was relaxing and the music was fun. The checkout was quick, and the cashier was thoughtful. Thank you for the great experience.

Google
One of the nicest Cabela's I have been to. Knowledgeable, friendly and helpful staff. Clean restrooms, great mounts and a well kept aquarium. A wide variety of merchandise, you are sure to find something you didn't know you wanted.

Yelp
On a recent visit, was very impressed w all the flags commemorating the upcoming Memorial Day. Flags by the front entrance and lining the island approaching the front. Cabela's also is a fun place to visit with lots of stuffed animals in the center on a giant mound. Other cool displays of animals and fish found throughout the store, including a giant aquarium. One of the must-sees, at least for me, is the shotgun "museum" on the 2nd floor. Vintage shotguns, as well as rifles and pistols, on display (and for sale, at a price). Something for everyone in the store. I'm a big fan. 4 stars

Yelp
One of my favorite places to visit when passing thru town. This outdoor store has just about everything you need to get out and enjoy the outdoors.

Yelp
If you're considering buying a boat from them, think twice. While company personnel claim that they will honor the warranty, they just can't get to it now. The reality is very different. They admit they can't actually service your boat for weeks--because their priority is prepping the newest sales for delivery, understaffed, on vacation etc. etc. In my view if they can't get to your boat for weeks you do not have a warranty. This means that if something goes wrong with your boat or motor, you'll be pushed aside regardless of your warranty status. For a seasonal product like a boat, that kind of delay makes the warranty practically worthless. Their explanations for the delays are weak, their tone is condescending, and their message is clear and stated without compunction. If you don't like it, go somewhere else. Find a smaller customer oriented boat retailer. Note: Tom Savage, located in the boat showroom department, appears to be the final authority on boat sales and service. All unresolved issues go through him--and unfortunately, he's no help. He offers nothing but empty words when it comes to resolving service issues. The store manager can't help and there is not a regional manager for the boating department. Escalating a problem is not an option. Note: the matter that I'm having is such a simple diagnostic, repair or replacement. Yet it prevents me from using my boat because it puts my boat and motor at risk. The depth finder doesn't work. I've hit bottom with the lower unit twice. Too risky to use on the CT river or really anywhere. They are entirely apathetic. I've left it at their shop three times, twice for a full week. They just don't get to it and won't make any estimates as to when they will. So condescending and rude. Nothing but shrugged shoulders. Tough luck pal.

Yelp
They're the new "mall!" Dying from the inside out! Empty shelves, and spreading product thinly across the shelves. Went in for some basic camping/hiking things today and they don't carry them anymore. It was bad enough that they switched to bass pro shops brands, but now it's like watching a vcr repair shop struggle to stay in business! Hope Amazon kills them soon

Yelp
Visiting my buddy from out of town. Was trying to buy a few shirts and shorts. Check out line was 20 people deep and only 2 cashiers. After 5 minutes line moved only 1 person. I left and remembered that this is the exact same thing that happened last year at this same location. I'll never be back!

Chelsea S.

Yelp
If I could give them zero stars... I would. Denied an officer the right to buy a gun due to the fact that he didn't hold a pistol permit (officers in CT do not have to have a pistol permit). Big boss said they were wrong and apologized but we will never buy a gun from them again. Customer service is lousy and they'll try to throw laws in your face to intimidate you without actually knowing what they're talking about. I also witnessed them deny someone from buying a gun because his daughter was with him and they assumed he would be buying the shotgun for her. (Which would be legal regardless because she showed them her pistol permit!) Absolutely ridiculous. The only plus side is that their guns are the cheapest. If you want a smooth gun-buying process, try Newington Gun Exchange or go see Rob at Central Arms in Portland. Both stand up facilities without making assumptions on what you're buying the gun for.

Yelp
It's such a large store! I love that they have an aquarium and a play shooting range. You could spend some time with the kids here. Plus at Christmas time, they have free pictures with Santa!! They also have an actual archery range too.

Yelp
OMG .. this place is a complete paradise for Hunters and fisherman . Beautiful layout and they have pretty much EVERYTHING YOU NEED .! Hands up for that , however there aren't a lot of associates to help you , we had to go around the store trying to find someone and even the registers there were only 2 open . Aside from that is definitely a great place to check you .

Yelp
Poor Customer Service, saw online 10+ in stock, rude service when asking to check back of store because they have it, Ordered it online to pickup and it was ready a hour later..... Not satisfied since I been spending a ton of money here monthly. The Firearm department people who are behind the counter are also rude at times.

Yelp
It's always fun to stop here! Great for families as there is an aquarium and wildlife on display. The kids can learn while having fun. They carry all kinds of things, from camping to boating/fishing to hunting as well as clothing for the whole family, foods & seasonings, kitchen equipment, snacks... so many items! This visit had us shopping for a meat grinder for hubby's birthday. He's been wanting to make his own sausage and Cabela's has a huge selection of meat grinders at all different price points. He likes the 1/2 hp commercial grinder that comes with a sizeable feeding tray as well as attachments for filling sausage casings.. Apparently this is a popular model as they were sold out. The reviews were good so that makes sense. We'll order it online. Hubby is excited to get started! Lots of accessories for the grinder, too! And butcher paper to make it look professional! Heheh I know, but it's still cool! Nearby is a section that has seasoning kits for sausage. Not just one type of sausage either! Bratwurst, sweet Italian, maple breakfast sausage, Andouille... You can buy the casings here as well. Cabela's carries pretty much all we need to get started (with the exception of the meat - lol). The staff member who assisted us was friendly & helpful. The store is always immaculate and fun to browse.

Yelp
I wasn't able to edit my post so I wanted to add that management-NEVER DID respond to my letters or calls on this issue.

Yelp
Cabela's is a welcome mega sized Outdoor Sporting Goods store in East Hartford. The first anchor store of what's hoped to shopping destination right off route I-84. Placed above the historic Pratt & Whitney Rentschler air field. Cabela's is fun to visit, especially with your Wee Ones, with their immense indoor wildlife exhibits and fish aquarium. Beyond that you can literally wander the store for hours. All enthusiasts: Hunters, Fishermen, Campers, Boaters, Hikers, Motorized Trail Riders, Back Country Life, and Venturous Chefs. The only game I shoot is with a camera, but that doesn't matter here. Their clothing and outdoor accessories, such as, binoculars, high powered optics, backwood gear & chow make the Shutter Bug experience more comfortable and worthwhile. My favorite find here at Cabela's has been their Dehydrators along with outdoor smokers & cooking gadgets. I jumped headfirst into a whole new hobby. My first dehydrator, which sported 12 racks ran almost nonstop. It well outlasted it's warranty and now I'm onto my second dehydrator of similar specifications, but with a few design improvements. So if you have sometime to browse, drop by and enjoy. Who knows you might find a new hobby to distract you from your sofa!!!

Yelp
I want to express my thoughts regarding my experience buying an antique rifle this past weekend. Because of the age of the rifle an administrative glitch occurred with the powers to be. In Connecticut many many steps must be taken to legally purchase a firearm. Mike Reddy and Guy (unknown last name) spend 2 hours and 45 minutes processing my paperwork through telephone with the authorities to get approval for my purchase. I was one customer among many. They demonstrated excellent service and patience in getting through the bureaucratic mess on my behalf. I'm very thankful.

Yelp
I want to start off my saying that Jordan, the cashier was fantastic! Very helpful and had a great attitude. The horrible part was the manager, Tony. I got a gift card and wanted to use it but it wouldn't work for some reason. Jordan called the manager multiple times to come to the register, and even after 15 minutes Tony still did not come to the register, meanwhile there is a line behind us that is not the happiest. We ended up paying in cash and not using our gift card, which is why we came (to use the gift card). The waiting time for the manager to come over and help exceeded 15 minutes and we never got help with our gift card issue. Totally unacceptable. Tony, you should really start taking the role of being a manager more seriously.

Yelp
Came here a few weeks ago on a Saturday to check it out since we had some gift cards and have never been here. We were really excited that we would be in the store at the same time as the kids craft event, but it was like basically painting your name on a rock. Upon entering, our son (2.5) was a bit scared of all of the animals, but he eventually warmed up to them. The store has a great variety of everything for your outdoorsy needs with sectioned mapped out for different areas. The fudge was pretty phenomenal, the smell alone lures you in to get some. Basically, I would have rated the experience with 4 or 5 stars with the exception of this: My husband happens upon a counter/case of Oakley sunglasses that he has been hoping to get for awhile now. He asks if they could open the case for him so that he could try on a few pairs. With each pair he tries on, the person helping him uses a glass cleaner and wipes down the pair. (Now we can only imagine how many times each pair has been worn and cleaned and the process repeated, etc.) So he ends up falling in love with one pair specifically. When they go back to the counter and see if there is a brand new untouched pair, they are out of stock...they are are also out of stock online with no date of restock available. They called Bass in Bridgeport, they are out of stock as well. I suggested well if that is the only pair, they shouldn't have it out for potential customers to want to buy or perhaps they could discount it for us since everyone and their brother has touched it. The associate calls her manager who tells her that they won't honor that. The manager suggests over the phone to go to Sunglass Hut instead! a bit unbelievable... and would you know, we went there and bought them there instead, thanks for the referral! I think we'll try to go us the gift cards at Bass next time.

Yelp
Called Missy at corporate Cabela's Sidney, NE to let them know that Cabelas Hartford Connecticut does not sell guns or ammunition to New York residents, I told her that being in a sporting retail that they should be in a state that does and should move out of Connecticut! She laughed at me and I told her I don't think this is a joke, this is very serious and that our second amendment is under siege. I feel Cabela's should move to a state that supports all states and its retail stores.

Kristen K.

Yelp
The wait time to check out is bonkers. Also, when you return something purchased in another state, make sure they give you the correct return amount, IE: tax from the state from which the purchase originated. Literally been waiting to check out for a half hour, and had to adjust a store credit gift card because a manager is not available.

Yelp
Always liked this place from the first time I went here. This store has been getting ammo in and the prices for it have been competitive. The only ammo price that I don't like is for the .45 Colt. They're only getting a few boxes of it in and they want $70 PER BOX (50 round box). You can go online for the .45 Colt ammo and get it for $24-30 per box. Less than half. Other than that, like 5.56, .223 ammo, 9mm and .45acp, the prices are competitive.

Yelp
I am never disappointed when coming to this location. The service and sales team are awesome. Anything I needed from the moment I walked in I was shown to . I didn't have to look for help at all. Before I even stepped inside today I had the pleasure of meeting the owner of Faddy's Donut truck parked right outside with some of the best donuts around. I had to buy a Maple Walnut . Inside Cabelas I was fascinated by the boats perched upfront with very good prices. I am definitely coming back to check them out. I was offered to sign up for the Mastercard today ,so I did do that simple 5 minute process and in turn got a Free hat, cooler and multi-tool for signing up. There is alot of fun for kids here surprisingly they have a few areas to walk thru like a mini aquarium stuffed with large fish to Wow the little ones. Also deer and bison displayed in their natural habitat. You can get fudge here made fresh and they do have a Cafe opening late Sunmer due to the precautions in 2020. You can get everything for camping, hunting, fishing, hiking and so on all in one store. The ATVs were very nice and good prices. I will definitely be back again !

Yelp
Best I can do is two stars, two stars because of the cashier was very friendly but the sale gun staff totally are a mess of condescending disrespectful attitudes to the pint the staff aka David rolled his eyes when we where asking questions about a Ruger rifle, at the end of the day we rather drive further to other store before going back to this store...

Michael B.

Yelp
Was definitely profiled as soon as I came to the gun section. Got talked into buying a credit card was assisted all the way with that. While attempting to buy my first hand gun I got no assistance with the questionnaire and was told I answered the questions wrong and was told I could never shop there again. Every worker in the gun department asked for my last name and ethnicity as they admitted the state profiles us too. Jose was the only helpful one and unbiased. I would never shop here again especially since they seem to support racism.

Yelp
Here's why there is a 4 star rating for the restaurant; most in store restaurants are nothing more than beaneries. The only consistent items on the menu are the soft drinks in the cans. Otherwise it's a gamble. Ordered a burger, medium rare. There's an impressive selection of cheeses to add, besides the usual; tomato, onion, etc. I saw a raw patty put on the grill and delivered medium rare! It came with fries and a large soda. The fries were crisp. There are the usual condiments, several kinds of mustard, BBQ sauce to add to the burger. For $8.50 it was as good or better than some diners. I've shopped through mail order for decades with Cabela's and since they opened stores in PA and Connecticut I've shopped in store. Shopping in store is a great visual and educational experience for children. For an adult with a credit card, it's like being a child in a candy store. A dangerous thing. I can only say positive things about Cabela's.

Yelp
Just an incredibly FUN place to visit. I am most definitely not an outdoorsman, so the camping and hunting and fishing stuff are not something I'd ever need. But holy crap is it fun to walk through the aisles and gawk at all of that. I mean, seriously its just amazing to see al of the very cool stuff being sold. They are a great place to bring kids who will be mesmerized (if not terrorized) by the jaw dropping variety of taxidermied wildlife on display -bears, lions, tigers and a massive elephant. And don't miss the huge fish tank display on the first floor. And don't forget to drive by Rentschler Field (it kind of shares the parking lot with Cabela's) -it will be a cool day for the kiddies. They sell a lot of clothing, at decent prices. They have a huge General Store with all kinds of food products. And of course they have a cafeteria on the second floor that sells things like Elk burgers, bison burgers, and ostrich or boar sandwiches. I had an ostrich sandwich (sounds a little like a Groucho Marx joke) which looked and tasted exactly like roast beef. It's really a great way to spend a few hours.....

Yelp
I come here only a few times a year mostly for gift cards for my Outdoorsman Father.....he can get lost in here for hours. They have everything Outdoorsman's dreams are made of whether it be Fishing, Hiking, Archery, Hunting, Cold Weather Sporting goods, Cooking goods & Even Old-time Nostalgic Candies....hey now everyone has a sweet tooth..lol. I have even come here with my kids they have some aquariums with fish.....So it's like a free trip to the aquarium...hey now sometimes you just need to be Thrifty when you have mouths to feed. My Blue collar hubby on the other hand likes to sneak over here because there is a donut truck that hangs out front that has hot fresh donuts. And they are nice hot melt in your mouth. Got with the Cinnamon sugar cake donuts get a minimum of two per person. You'll be sad if you leave and only get one......and you might even head back....they are that good. And yes I grabbed two when I went there to grab my Dad's birthday gift card.... couldn't resist... lol

Yelp
Impressive selection of everything related to the outdoors from jerky to tractors. This is a massive building and they spared no expense so the prices are not the lowest around but it's definitely one stop shopping. I like to come here when I'm in town to shop for a few things you can't find anywhere else. Recent changes in Connecticut law has dampened the experience somewhat out of state shoppers can no longer buy much of anything gun related from ammo to a dust cover for a pistol clip. If you are one of the unfortunate people that live here you must have a few documents in place to make those types of purchases as well. The service stops at the door they are always staffed at the front entrance to try and sign you up to their members only club but once you enter the ginormous store to shop it hard to find anyone interested in providing customer service. Still a great place to pass some time the jerky shop is interesting as is the bargain cave.

Yelp
A ritual pit stop for anybody who visits me from India. My family and friends have loved visiting this store so far. It's basically a camping store which has A to Z of it. They also have boats, Atv's, fishing supplies, many variety of riffles, clothing, shoes and many more. If you don't know what to do any day, simply stop by this store and you'll discover so many things unknown to you. Parking lot is spacious, they have a cafe to on the upper level. Very unique store to visit any age group people will love it! They also have an aquarium and wild animals museum kinda display. Also a shooting range like a Game Center on the upper level. I also love to visit this store for one more reason, they make fresh hot cider donuts right at the entrance, love it!

Yelp
I've spent A LOT of $$$ in this store over the years, but I notice a severe decline in the level of service. Recently I was looking to get a new reel, the one I liked was On Sale 1/2 price. They didn't have any currently in stock, asked a salesperson if he knew when these reels would be coming in. He didn't know. Asked for a raincheck, he responded that they couldn't do that. Didn't sound right, so I called the store later and got the same negative Flatliner response. Guess I'll be giving my business to another tackle shop or using online options with various companies for my future fishing needs. I used to really enjoy a trip to this store. And lastly, I'd like to state that the condition of the fish aquariums is atrocious. Dirty & disgusting, they are not being maintained properly (I've kept aquarium fish for over 40 years, but it should be obvious to everyone who looks into these tanks). It's a disgrace, don't keep these animals if you cannot care for them properly.

JoJo R.

Yelp
Store is over all good & clean .. some of the workers not so much. Was greeted at door felt comfortable, Until I got over to the gun department where I was standing for about half a hour and not one worker in that department greeted us and this was after they kept telling us different objectives we had to do. I felt like they kept giving us the run around .. we would ask gun related questions and get nothing but plain replies , smart remarks , and just not acknowledged at all. I felt very uncomfortable asking any more questions. Tony over @ the gun department and others made our experience hell. What was supposed to be a good experience turn bad. They made me feel less then anyone that was around including them. Would not recommend. It wasn't until I was starting to "record" what was going on that tony finally after walking up and down passed us , came and answered a question. To sum it up, we have pistol permits & drivers license and walked away with nothing therefore Thank you Tony and the rest of the gun department for your "help" . I Would also like to add that I went to another gun store the (same day), and walked out with a purchase. Not one problem I was having at Cabela's came up. P.S. i have purchased a weapon at this same location, with no problem, just felt targeted this once.

Yelp
This place is good for gear, looking for deals on fire arms and camping needs. Besides that over the past 2 years they have just gone down hill. I used to love them and would go twice a month but as of recent not many things are kept stocked and staff has gotten incredibly rude/ and unwilling to help. Trying to talk to management is a joke. Twice I've bought .177 BB guns, each time the gun was defected. When I returned them I had to wait in the front of the(which is understandable because I woukdn't want people to think I am carrying a hit fire arm) but I waited 45 minutes to be seen by a specialist and an extra 15 to complain to a manager. Even tried eating at their cafe which is run by crotchety old guys and marked up for D par food. Don't go unless necessary and yoh have cash to spend. Better off going to a local gun shop.

Karen T.

Yelp
I'm really offended and I have to vent. I shop at Cabela's in East Hartford Ct at least once every two months to purchase my ammo and I always feel harassed with all the questions. The security on the radio always sends someone over to help me but never anyone else and then they want to know what range I attend, what am I going to do with so much ammo, is it for me? This is straight harassment and discrimination because I'm a woman and black. I don't want to shop here anymore but I do get good deals. I guess I'll have to wait until I go out of town to purchase because I'm really disgusted! They just lost me as a customer and I will make my family and friends aware of what is taking place in that particular store. I might even cancel my card. They get a thumbs down! That one star they don't even deserve!

Yelp
Love this store. Large with an awful lot of options. Staff is knowledgeable and always ready to help The prices are good and totally enjoy the store.

James S.

Yelp
I was a longtime customer since the day they opened the East Hartford store. After my recent experience while trying to pick up a ship to store item in the firearm department. I will no longer be doing business with Cabela's. I work too hard, and life is too short for me to do business with a company that employs people that make legal gun owners feel like criminals. I followed all the guidelines highlighted in the pickup your item email, long time valid CT pistol permit, CT ID and even a third form of identification as suggested. The employee threw my permit, ID and vehicle registration back at me on the table and said "I won't processed this, you need the "official address change sticker". When I asked what he meant by "official sticker" since when I changed my address with the CT DESSP they told me in the email to just write or put any sticker with my new address on my permit. He actually yelled at me "you figure it out". When I tried to ask one more question, he looked me square in the eye and yelled "Next!!!" The absolute worst experience of my life. Guess what...there is no such thing as an "Official address sticker". I understand that everyone has bad days, I do too. However, with only 3 customers and 4 employees behind the counter. I overheard other customers dealing with similar attitudes, all of us having similar experiences. It is apparent that there is a systemic problem with Cabela's. Hopefully it is only inherent to the East Hartford store. However, after this experience I am unwilling to continue my patronage with Cablela's. Life is complicated enough.

Yelp
My husband and I went to this store last night at approx 6:30. We were looking for a new pontoon boat. We looked at four or five of them that were outside first for approx 25mins with no assistance offered. We then went inside to the boat area and toured the pontoons in there as well. There were approx 3 staff in an office in the same area with no other sales person seen nearby. Again, after being in this department for approx 20 mins no one once came up to ask if we needed assistance or to even acknowledge our presence. A female staff person in another area did comment that we looked good onboard the boat but did so in passing only. You would think with a high end item that you would be offered assistance. Not happy with our first experience at this store. Customer service is of the upmost importance in today's market. Sorry Cabella, we will shop elsewhere for our purchase.

Sochenda S.

Yelp
Employee stopped me and my husband and our 2 children who came to see cabelas because my son likes looking at there fish tank. But instead the lady who works there acted like we stole something just because we didn't buy anything when we exit. We came to this location many times before but never got treated this way. I won't be coming back here to this location.

Yelp
If it's the first time ur waking into the store ur in for a big surprise ..."wow".... More than shopping at this store ... We bring visitors to tour...LOL!! My lil one (so were we) was fascinated by the animals, the aquarium, the shooting game on the top level..After all the excitement settled (after a number of visits)...we were on hunt for camping gear... Boy-oh-boy they have everything u need for the outdoors here... Organized by category ... Ur less likely to forget all the things that u wud need on ur trip ...One stop shop for the outdoors. If you want to buy cars u go to a car showroom rt? But if u want to buy boats where do u go? Cabelas I guess....interesting to see the boats on display up close. .. and the display of ammunition was scary but a good learning. They serve bison/elk meat at the cafe ... FYI A visit to this is definitely recommended...you will love it for sure.

Yelp
We did a short day trip to check this place out today. I took today off (Friday), so we were able to go during the weekday when it wasn't insanely crowded. The place is pretty massive, and has all the niceties of a tourist trap. The "general store" . The "aquarium". A nice little museum of local game. Massive Airplane hanging from ceiling, looking like it was going to do a crash landing. An old school infrared shooting gallery, as good as the one in Disneyland. And of course, the big game cafeteria. They also have the infamous Gun Library. Here you can investigate and purchase limited edition, and historic firearms. I never saw so many pistols up close, it was pretty wild. I like outdoor stuff, but my heart belongs to gadgets. Underwater fish TV cams, a chili roaster for the grill, which we had been looking for, for months! They even had a Power Jerky Blaster. How can you beat that? Perhaps a pink shotgun for your Future Hunteress of America? This place seems like it has everything for the outdoor enthusiast (at least everything I ever thought to look for). The cafeteria was pretty good too. I had the wild boar sandwich. Pretty much glorified ham sandwich, but quite tasty. Jen got the fried duck wings, which were nice, crispy and tasty. The service within the cafeteria, as well as throughout the store, was quite excellent. For a cafeteria style place, it was pretty clean. All and all it was fun day out, and ranks up there with any tourist trap in the state. Recommended!

Yelp
I had to call Cabala's today about a salt water reel I was forced to buy online due to shortages. Being new to salt water fishing i needed some advice and and figured a phone call would save me a trip. AND yes it did! spoke to a very knowledgeable Jason in the fishing department who was willing to help and set me straight. Thanks!

Yelp
I don't hunt, camp or anything like that but I still managed to enjoy the trip to Cabela's. We spent a good chunk of time just wandering the store. Found the elusive chilli roaster that we have been lucking for all year. My husband also thought it was so funny that there were so many "dutch oven" cookbooks. Lots of corny stuff to do and see... The is a teeny, tiny aquarium stocked with all sorts of fish, an animatronic wildlife exhibit, an indoor archery range, a gun library, and my favorite.... a "rifle range." It is just like the shooting gallery in Frontierland at Disneyland. Awesome! I spent a good amount of time shooting up some fake bottles. If your kids like guns why not buy them a little tiny pink or camo rifle that shoots real bullets. Hey its America, why not arm the young! There is even a cafeteria style restaurant where you can have all sorts of game meats. I had the duck wings which were actually quite tasty. My husband had a wild boar deli sandwich which he said just tasted like ham. If you are in the East Hartford area why not take a trip to Cabela's. Even if you are not into murdering animals for fun there still is a lot to do and see. Plus it is good for a laugh.

Yelp
We ended up taking my 2.5 year old nephew to Cabela's on a rainy afternoon. It's a great spot for kids. As there are many animals that have been taxidermied from all over the world. For example there is an entire section of animals from Africa. I believe its a good learning experience for the kids to see these life sized animals. There is even a cave like area with large floor to ceiling fish tanks that have some of the largest fresh water fish I've ever seen. What's even better is the shopping. Seeing that winter is approaching, I was looking for some warm clothes at good prices. I was able to find exactly what I needed. Some warm merino wool socks and a flannel shirt would do me right for this trip. Upstairs was purely devoted to camping and hunting. They sell top brand coolers that can keep your things cold for weeks. There is a large selection of guns, knifes, and pepper spray if your in the mood. They have a shooting area where you can purchase tokens and shoot some laser like targets. The last thing I purchased was a large salt block. I'm not a hunter but I'll put it in my mothers back yard to attract some deer once the hunting season is over. They always make for some excitement while eating breakfast.

Yelp
Cabela's is fun, if you are aware of what you are walking into. Camping, hunting and general outdoors-y gear at basically full retail prices. There's a neat fresh water aquarium, a central display of stuffed animals (it's enormous) and smaller ones scattered throughout the store. The arcade style shooting range is fun, my kids love having Mommy or Daddy make things move when shot at (kinda ass backwards when compared to real shooting, but I digress...). There are also video game style shooting games scattered around the whole place. These are thinly veiled ads for the various Cabela's licensed games. The 2nd floor cafeteria is actually really tasty, just a bit on the pricy side. My favorite thing out of there to date is the deep fried duck wings, they are huge and meatier than you'd think. Burgers are great too. I don't come here looking for bargains, as they are really hard to find. This is a place I visit to entertain my kids for nothing, or next to nothing, while my husband is shopping for this or that. I do like the bargain cave, as the only good deals in the place can be found in there. For those with firearms, Cabela's will buy your old guns. They also have an extensive selection of both new and used firearms as well. In general, be aware of what the store is and you should be pleased. Do not expect to get bargains regularly though.

Yelp
Cabela's is a great source of outdoor equipment, sportsman equipment, outdoor apparel and more. This location is vast and clean. Theres even a taxidermy museum situation. Its right off of I-84 so its easy to get to as well. I went in for one specific item in mind and, of course, left with multiple items totaling $100. I kind of lose control in this store LOL One downside is the disgusting smelling foodtruck at the front door called "Faddy's Donuts"... (is that a play on fatty?). It smells vile.

Yelp
It chaps my rear when you try and secure an in store pickup related to a phone order and they act so put off by having to look to see what is in stock. "Oh I have to go back and forth while on the phone" though it's only for 2500.00 worth of archery equipment, so I guess they are justified, lol. Then you can't even look at any of the guns other than the outside as looking at the bore and cycling the action is prohibited. I guess they must not need the business as the attitudes are so often curt and put off. You'd think they work for the government. I don't know if it's Bass Pro that changed it all but it's definitely not what it used to be a few years ago. Makes Amazon, evil bay and other online stores shine by comparison.

Yelp
All I can say is: whoa. This is heaven for any outdoorsy person. It's like REI except with hunting supplies (ie guns). Prices are pretty reasonable and the store is HUGE. If you bring your kids they have tons of animal displays and they even have an aquarium.

Yelp
Cabela's is a pretty decent store. In my opinion, it's got something for everyone.... wether you're into hunting, fishing, camping, survival or the great outdoors, etc... Even if you're not into any of those things, they have a decent clothes selection, including hats, sunglasses, shoes and boots. Just like any other retail store, Cabela's has its Pros and Cons. If you haven't already done so, I would recommend that you visit at least once.

Yelp
Long-time Cabela's customer, I was very excited when they came to East Hartford, CT and pretty much all of my dog, hunting, fishing, camping, shooting purchases were made there because of their superior products and return options for customers. When Bass Pro purchased Cabela's I wasn't at all worried as I was a Bass Pro member too.....HOWEVER, now I see the changes being made and I doubt I will ever shop there again. I plan on canceling my Cabela's charge card too since they no longer stand behind their products....why pay a premium if there is no customer service! I was fishing over the weekend and was using my Cabela's pliers when they broke in two. Clearly a manufacture's error as I was just pinching the ends of a lead weight. I brought both pieces into the store today and they agreed..... BUT without a receipt, they would only look back at my last three months of purchases on my card and said the most they would give me is allow $12.00 discount (I paid 40 or 50 for these) towards a new pair. AND they no longer carry these in Cabela's or Bass Pro brand! So I had to spend the difference between the pair I bought (Offshore Angler for $40.00) and the $12 credit I got by returning the broken pair. Clearly, this is no longer a customer focused organization! I also asked them about a pair of Simm's Waders I purchased for my son. The sizing was wrong....and the store told me to contact Simm's. Guess Bass Pro/Cabela's want their customers shopping online instead at their brick and mortar stores....I feel bad for the employees of what was once a great service organization.

Yelp
This place is about volume only. Customer service is minimal. They will try and push a credit card down your throat then stall your gun purchase so you go browse/eat. Local gun shops are where to buy. I only went here for convenience because they had my 870 ghost sights. Not worth the 3 hour wait I would have ordered online through bids guns and picked up at a local range. Bottom line. NEVER. Will I buy ANYTHING FROM CABELLAS AGAIN.
