I came here on my own for some downtime after doing a few weeks of turtle conservation in Rio Oro. Staying at Cabinas Jimenez was just what I needed! The hosts were so accommodating and nice. The room was clean and lovely. Great toilet and shower. The kitchen was awesome I loved getting my music on and cooking on the balcony overlooking the ocean and the pool and palm trees. I had such a great week. I took the boat tour with John and he was an awesome captain, we saw whales and dolphins and did some snorkeling. It was just the best day! Puerto Jimenez was such a calm little town with lovely walks, using the bikes was great. I would definitely be back here if I could ever afford the flights again. Taking the free kayaks in to the mangroves was such a special experience. Amazing can't thank you enough for an excellent week.

I felt like I was part of the family. While staying at Cabinas Jimenez I went fishing, birding, whale watching, biking, paddle boarding, hiking and read a couple of books. On my first day I saw a whale from my room. The next day I went paddle boarding from Cabinas and saw a whale and a baby. The next day I followed seven whales across the gulf on my paddle board! Scarlet Macaws and toucans are easy to find, not to mention sea turtles and dolphins. This is just an unbelievable place! The staff don't feel like staff, they feel like friends. The owner and the rest of the team do whatever they can to make sure you are having a pleasant experience. There is a million dollar view from the room. The room is very clean and well stocked with everything I needed to make my own meals. The boat tour from Cabinas was unmatched with anything I have ever done on the water. It is very convenient to walk or bike to town including a well stocked grocery store and many restaurants. This was such a wonderful experience it will be so hard to leave. The good news is I am sure to come back!

Cabinas Jimenez is a great place to stay and provide adventure experiences. Our unit included an outdoor kitchen/sitting area that was great for viewing the ocean harbor looking eastward which provided spectacular sunrises. We used their fishing trip, whale/dolphin watching and kayaking experiences. The people were exceedingly pleasant and I felt that in my 10 days there I truly got to know them, and their dogs. The location is prime as well because it’s at the end of the main street, close enough for easy access but not within the main traffic area. The owner John is directly involved in all the activities and always takes the extra effort to insure you have a pleasant stay.

TLDR: mold in the rooms, mold on the pans and cutlery, no hot water, room not clean and covered in mosquito’s/ants/crabs, old rundown place. No one at reception to help with questions past 18.00. Room not lockable at other entrance. We arrived here to stay for 2 nights before heading to Corcovado. We arrived around 14.30, checked in and were told there would be someone at reception until 18.00. Once we got into the room we noticed the smell of mold. We’re generally not picky people, so we figured it’d be fine for 2 nights. We then noticed the room was full of ants, crabs in the bathroom and mosquitos absolutely everywhere. There was sand and hair in the bed, it generally just wasn’t clean. Around 18.00 we wanted to cook dinner in the outdoor kitchen and noticed the pans and spoons were covered in mold… but there was no one at reception anymore to help us. When I wanted to shower after dinner, there was no hot water. There was, again, no one at reception to help. I texted the number given but got no response that night. The worst thing was the mosquito net in front of the window/door to outside. Apart from the fact that it had holes, it wasn’t big enough to cover the door meaning that any and all bugs wanting to come in, could come in. I’ve travelled a lot. We’ve been in other hotels (similarly priced) in this country. I understand wildlife and bugs are part of this place. But this was just beyond subpar. I was stung all night and there was nothing we could do about it. The remote to the AC was broken, meaning the AC was stuck on freezing. There was nowhere to hang or even place clothes. Nowhere to sit in the room. The backdoor of the hotel room isn’t lockable — meaning anyone can just walk into your room… That night we decided to check out early. We didn’t want to stay here another night. The next day my husband explained that we were disappointed in the room and it didn’t meet the expectations set by the pictures. The owner of the hotel let us pay for the time we stayed, so we didn’t have to pay for the 2nd night which was fine. We would have left even if we did have to pay, honestly. We got the impression that the owner knows of all these issues, he didn’t seem very surprised. He said the maintenance guy won’t be here to fix the shower. He did say he wished we’d told him earlier — this was literally impossible. There was no one at reception and I did text the number, but got no response until the next day when we had already decided to leave… the owner also used the fact that he had given us an upgrade in his defense. No one had told us we had gotten an upgrade, we didn’t need an upgrade, we needed a clean room with a working mosquito net without mold… We were super disappointed in the place and relieved to leave early. Pictures show the faulty mosquito net, with holes at the top and bottom… EDIT: the owner edited his own reply days after replying, and writes that the pans were not moldy. Yes, they were, and when we told the owner about this he apologized for it. :)

My wife and I were visiting the Osa Peninsula for the first time to scout out a place to stay for our family. We booked several nights here in order to look for other places to stay and because the service and the accommodations were so great, we have decided to bring our family back to this establishment rather than going anywhere else. Annie is a wonderful host and any needs we had were addressed immediately and all appliances worked and it was clean and it was just great. The kayaks, paddle boards and bikes were in good working order and easily accessible. We can’t wait to return next summer.

We could not have asked for a better place to stay while we adventured in Corcovado National Park. Not only did they provide storage for our luggage while we stayed overnight in the jungle but it was a clean, tranquil room , spacious with a glorious view of the gulf. We should have stayed longer to enjoy the free kayaks and taken advantage of their reasonably priced tours they offer. Super friendly staff and owners, as well. One of the best places we have ever stayed. We are planning to go back there soon!

This was our second time staying here and it was once again great. Very clean and comfortable accommodations and pretty views of the water. Super convenient to everything you want do and also the staff is really helpful. Gabi gave great insights and also helped us out of a few jams. Juanita also was really great helping when we had a question as was the rest of the staff. It also is really convenient as far as walking to a grocery, bakery, restaurants, etc. We got takeout from Pizza Mail It quite a few times to eat on our deck, too. All in all a great trip.

We had the MOST WONDERFUL time at Cabinas Jimenez! We have taken 3 trips to Costa Rica totaling 10 weeks and this was one of our FAVORITE spots. The views are absolutely stunning, Macaws hang out all day, and everything is walkable/bike-able with the free bikes they offer! The town feels very authentic and Costa Ricans vacation here. We loved the convenience of having a kitchen and access to the grill, the pool was perfect, and the BEST part was the day we spent on the owner’s boat! We saw two types of dolphins plus all kinds of other wildlife, snorkeled and saw all kinds of tropical fish, and soaked up the absolute beauty of the mountains meeting the sea. If you are looking for an authentic Costa Rican coast experience and an opportunity to truly unwind, this is it! We stayed in the Rancho upstairs which had a cabin-like feel but ICE COLD A/C and fans-the best of both worlds!! Last but not least the owner gifted us some DELICIOUS fresh caught yellow fin tuna! (Nearby recs: visit Yaguar Animal Sanctuary where they are ACTUALLY working to rescue animals and have up close encounters with ocelots, a cheeky spider monkey, tapirs, pacare, and more and visit the locally own s Artes de Osa shop for art, souvenirs, and more MADE BY LOCALS! I promise this review is not paid-we just truly loved this spot after hitting the very touristy La Fortuna and Manuel Antonio.
