25 Best Golf Courses in the World

"This links-style course set on Cape Breton features rolling fairways, dunes, forest, elevation changes, and ocean landscapes. The first hole offers a view of the sea and, in the distance, the village of Inverness. The 18th hole challenges players with a ravine in front of the narrow green." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Spectacular layout at both the Links and Cliffs course. Terrific caddies. Wonderful accommodations. We drove up from Maine so it was a bit of a hike to get there. The roads in Canada are in great shape and the drivers are very curtious.

It sickens me to leave a 4, but after spending that kind of money at the course and having a check in process that makes you feel like the scum of the earth, I had to. The course itself is unreal. 5/5 by far. The check-in staff were a 0/5. I first pulled up and waited for a bit, but no one greeted me. I've played at public courses that charge $80 that have a check in person taking the clubs from the vehicle and set you up. Here... Nothing. So I parked at the bag drop and started to get my clubs sorted and walked them down to the pro-shop (not far, but still a pain when there are others waiting to pull in the bag drop). I finally was able to grab someone, who was clearly annoyed I asked them as they were doing something else. They helped point me in the right direction because I was taking a walking caddy and I have a large cart bag. They gave me a carry bag and told me to move my clubs over. Awesome! Now we are getting somewhere! I was still so jazzed that I got to play this course that I just parked and assumed the regular folks out front where on break (it was 2:45pm... I was off at 3:24pm) Finally was going to officially check in and the pro shop was even worse where this blonde bimbo was more worried about her break than helping a paying customer. It was so bad that some young kid in the back stocking something actually interrupted her to help me out. I was a solo golfer so I was just trying to figure out what to do and where to go. Never taken a caddy before and never been there before so I wasn't sure where all the facilities were. Good thing my caddy and the course were a 10 or I would have felt sick about paying that kind of money. Shout out to Andy who made the experience even through the rain!

Wow! Breathtaking! Majestic! Gorgeous! Scenic! Incredible! I’m running out of adjectives to describe the jaw-dropping Cabot Trail, and in particular, its crown jewel—Cabot Cliffs Golf Course. This was the perfect way to spend the final day of our amazing trip to Nova Scotia. As an avid golfer, I was beyond grateful to play Cabot Cliffs, ranked as the 10th best golf course in the world last year by Golf Digest. After a relaxing night and a delicious breakfast at Cabot Links Lodge, we teed it up on one of the most spectacular and well-designed courses I’ve ever played. With stunning ocean views on nearly every hole, it’s hard to believe this course is only seven years old. The imagination of designers Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore is evident in every detail, especially at the unforgettable 16th hole. As we stood on the tee, my buddy and I couldn’t help but marvel at the audacity of hitting a nine-iron across the sheer cliff face, only to watch our balls sail across the chasm by inches leaving us both with challenging but exhilarating up-and-downs for par. The dramatic finishing holes were equally thrilling capping off our round leaving us a sense of awe. Cabot Cliffs is a true masterpiece. Its varied elevation changes, immaculate greens, and creative course design reward both strategy and skill. Each hole feels like it has been carved naturally into the landscape, with the beauty of the Atlantic Ocean as its backdrop. My caddie, Todd, with 15 years of PGA and European Tour experience, was invaluable, offering brilliant insight into blind shots and tough greens, and sharing incredible stories that made the round even more memorable. Some highly rated courses are overhyped, but not this one. Although it’s not easy to get there, and it’s not inexpensive, in my view it’s well worth it, amd a course you’ll want to play again and again. The Cabot experience goes beyond just the golf. The staff are a reflection of Nova Scotia’s warm hospitality—friendly, attentive, and always ready to help. The resort truly excels in the details that elevate the experience: from well-maintained fescue and natural landscapes to friendly starters, pristine rental clubs, a superb driving range with TrackMan, and thoughtful touches like cookies and water at the first tee. And I can’t forget the phenomenal lobster rolls at the turn! Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or someone simply seeking a bucket-list experience, Cabot Cliffs delivers on every level. The combination of world-class golf, breathtaking scenery, and impeccable service makes the trip to Cape Breton Island an absolute must. I can’t recommend it highly enough—put it at the top of your list, you won’t regret it.

Sadly this beautiful piece of property is ruined with pre fab looking structures that appear to be a development by someone with no vision or taste. The golf course is smaller due to this development. This is the marquis location for Cabot that they have shown all over their website. It's a real bait and switch. We overheard people staying here complaints about no view, being blocked by other houses in the same development. Plus there's only one place to eat there, nothing else. Poorly designed and poorly executed.

This course lives up to the hype. Absolutely gorgeous from start to finish. We played here twice in our visit, both times provided a unique experience. Great shape, difficult, but forgiving enough. The chairs on the cliff overlooking number 18 green at the end of the round are a must stop. We stayed in the hillside homes. This part of the resort is developing quickly. Can’t wait to see what it’s like 5 years from now.

What a terrific experience for our Father’s and Son’s golf holiday. The Cabot Cliffs and Cabot Links golf courses deserve top marks. Great course design, challenging, beautiful scenery and excellent course conditions including a great practice facility with trackman driving range. The resort rooms and dinning establishments were also top shelf along with friendly staff. Our caddies both Lukes, Trigger and Jack were also tremendous in providing advice and guidance allowing us to maximize our experience playing the Links and Cliffs courses. This experience has left us with many fond memories.

Beautiful course with breathtaking views painted by the master creator. Such a joy to be there and play a world renown challenging course with my buddies. Be prepared for a good workout though. The back nine is a walk uphill which will test your physical state but well worth the effort. Just an awesome experience. A must for your bucket list.

This course is just epic. I played it on a drizzly day, and instead of ruining the experience it just enhanced it. Stunning views, weather that is volotile, lots of wind. We had caddies and they were excellent in helping us navigate the course. Truly awesome experience, recommend anyone who is a golfer play this course at least once if they have the chance.
