Unexpectedly great. Having just arrived in Kingscote and being a little underwhelmed with food options we happened across Cactus.
One of the best breakfasts (salmon) I have had in a very long time. So good we went out of our way to go back there for lunch a couple of days later. The fish tacos and local squid were on point.
Great service too, loved it.

What a lovely cafe. Open early for breakfast, with outdoor seating. The staff were extremely helpful . The food was next level 👌 😋 💯. It's a must to call in here if in Kingscote

Loved our brunch here. Coffee was yum and food was delicious. Great vibe and super helpful staff. Able to cater for those with dietary requirements and was able to cater for coeliacs.

Outstanding. First class in every way. Sublime coffee and delicious food, all beautifully presented and served with wonderful, old fashioned customer service. Nice indoor seating area, and outside for a warmer day. Would be very hard to find a better place. Highly recommend...oh nearly forgot the cakes...they look amazing. We have a couple for morning tea later this morning. Am sure they will taste as good as they look.

Amazing pancakes and excellent coffee! The pancakes are fluffy, and full of flavor, while the coffee is smooth and perfectly brewed. The cozy vibe makes it a great spot to unwind. Highly recommend!

A great recommendation from our villa rental saw us visiting Cactus Kangaroo twice! And we were not disappointed.
Cactus sits on the left side of Dauncey St in Kingscote, as you approach Drew Street and we could have walked there, had it not been so chilly. But it truly was a great find.
I can see where Cactus got its name, more befitting of a Mexican restaurant than a local bar and cafe on Kangaroo Island. But the decor was cool and basic and "sea-sidy" with arched mural paintings that made the interior interesting and chilled and thematic. The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly, which adds that even-better tick to what was outstanding food.
My two poached eggs on sour dough bread came with ample portions of bacon and a garnishing of rocket salad. Truly excellent. I had it twice. And talking of twice, I always ordered two cappuccinos! As a coffee aficionado, I can attest to these being amazing too.
Cactus is must visit. They have awesome, friendly staff and owners . I just wish I'd visited there during the summer months, either to just hang out or simply have a glass of wine too, rather than being all rugged up on a cold morning.

After 10 days bikepacking on the island, any cafe would feel like a treat, but this one really earns the five star review. Food was lovely and the service was incredible. The friendly waiter let us charge our devices, quickly and kindly changed out bacon for avocado after I had mistakenly ordered the non-veg version of my breakfast (my fault!) and even offered to put ice in our water bottles for the hot ride over to the ferry. Many thanks, will definitely visit again!
