"When Carlos Morera and his uncle Johnny Morera first staked out their diminutive storefront in 2014, they didn’t even give it a name. People just started calling it the Cactus Store, and the moniker stuck. Echo Park locals were immediate fans of the place, even more so after the elder Morera took it upon himself to landscape a whole corner of the block. It’s like a tiny oasis en route to the bustle of Sunset Boulevard—a miniature Huntington Gardens without the steep admission fee. Morera is something of a cactus wizard, and this 200-square-foot space he presides over is much more than a store; it’s a museum of sorts, a warm, dry home for rare cactus specimens sourced from farms along the Mexican border, private growers, and decades-old secret collections. Yes, you can buy the beautiful, bizarro cacti that are housed in vintage terra-cotta pots and artfully displayed on cinder blocks, provided you’re willing to shell out from $30 to $1,300 apiece. But you’re also welcome to loiter, ask a zillion questions, and take home nothing but photos." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

This used to be one of my favorite spots but not after today. The gentleman working the storefront today was more interested a personal phone call ( we could hear it was not work related) than helping the array of customers in the store. Me and another guy were ready to purchase . He seemed beyond annoyed and did not even bother to put out the cigarette he was smoking IN THE STORE! Talk about bad customer service. I won’t be back if that’s who they have working there

I stopped by the store this past weekend and was treated to a fascinating inventory of plants and very kind service. The person working there was super helpful in finding a new plant to bring home and was quite knowledgeable about all things plant/cacti, gave me some tips on caring for my other house plants. Looking forward to coming back!

I meant to leave this post sooner... Sure there is a lot of unique cacti were in the store but when I was there a lot of them were not for sale and the ones that were for sale were insanely priced. What was real annoying was making the drive there just to find out most of the pictures shown of the business on Google maps was not even of what was in the store. I seen the pictures and drove there for a specific cactus just to be told oh that was a picture taken in another country. Talk about a baiting customers in!

I love this place, but I made special plans to be here during their limited hours. The sign posted on the door says Friday is 11 to 4. They were not open at 11:02 AM, and then I ran another errand and came back, and they still were not open at 11:20 AM. I made a special trip here just for them. I called. I knocked. There was no response.

UPDATED REVIEW (Saturday January15th, 2022 3:50 p.m.) I came from Venice to Echo Park to my favorite cactus store to get a cactus repotted because it was a very dear Mamilaria that a friend had given me and which sadly, fell off the porch and whose pot broke and whose original native soil from Mexico had spilled all over the floor. I came because I had received stellar treatment in the past and thought I would have another awesome experience. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a updated store entrance, a beautiful maze of desert-esque pots and potential homes for any cactus of any size. I exited the maze to arrive at an outdoor room of wild varieties of cacti from around the world. The young woman who was working had just finished helping another guest with their shopping needs and asked me and another gentleman: "Who's next?" Upon seeing the cactus in my left hand and the new pot I had bought in my right, she immediately said: "I'm not doing any planting today." I stood there puzzled as to why she wasn't doing any re-planting and the answer I received was: "Because I'm not doing that today. You can come back tomorrow or another day, but I'm not re-planting today." I was really taken aback, because I did not expect to have this type of an experience from my favorite Cactus Store where I have had re-planting done on 8 or so different instances over the last 4 years. It would have taken 5 minutes to re-plant my beloved mamilaria. But that's okay. I can take my business elsewhere. I will tell my friends to do the same. This place used to be good. I guess, Post-Covid, it's just not the same. I won't be back. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ORIGINAL REVIEW: Best Cactus store in L.A.! They have the best selection and the wildest most exotic varieties, some of which you've probably never heard of. You will not be disappointed. Don't delay!

Wonderful little shop with an incredibly knowledgeable and well-versed staff. Cacti of such a broad variety, and the prices range from reasonable to that old joke where a person sees a price tag and faints. We got our little prickly pal from here and he looks even more handsome than when we got him😊

The cactus store staff are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic about all things cactus. The selection of cacti in the store is incredible, there are species and sizes of cacti that I have never seen. I would highly recommend this store.
