How the Pandemic Solidified Northern Rivers, Australia as a Must-Visit Dining Scene | Condé Nast Traveler

"Restaurateurs Holly Ottingon and Giorgio Ravelli moved to beachside Brunswick Heads—Bruns, as it’s known in these parts—in November 2019 to open Cadeau, a 40-seat restaurant, after decades spent working in restaurants around the world. The floods were their third crisis in as many years: First was the bushfires. The second, COVID-19, closed their new restaurant before it had even really opened."

Amazing experience. We had the banquet and there was a great variety of flavours, dishes presented beautifully and just the right amount to leave you full at the end. We loved the starters as they were packed with flavour but my highlight was the ravioli which was sensational. Service was great as our wine glass was never empty. Staff were friendly, professional and made you feel welcome. Highly recommend.

🌟Highly Recommended!🌟 Nestled amidst palm foliage and umbrellas on Mullumbimbi St, in the popular and happening seaside village of Bruns, lies the hidden gem Cadeau! Both the food and service are outstanding - impeccable actually! And with such reasonable pricing for a dining experience of this exceptional calibre, Cadeau is definitely worth the visit! The care, attention and expert technique that Swiss-born chef Giorgio Ravelli imbues into every element makes for a tantalising and exciting menu full of diverse flavour complexity, balance and exquisite delicacy. With every exquisite mouthful Chef Ravelli, who brings his refined skills to Bruns from esteemed Michelin-starred establishments such as The Ledbury and The Clove Club, transports your taste buds to the very best of Europe; but the vibe is laid back subtropical, warm and relaxed. What good fortune for both locals and visitors to Brunswick Heads! We had a couple of starters - both titillated our taste buds! Possibly the best baba ghanoush you’ll ever taste, beautifully complemented by fermented daikon and charred potato flat bread (to die for!) and the octopus barigoule (with fried sourdough and garlic aioli) which was impossibly tender with a depth of flavour leaving you craving for more. Not wanting to leave a skerrick, we mopped that plate clean with extra sourdough! Mains were also each a unique piece of Giorgio’s culinary genius. The most delicate tortelli encasing goat’s curd and ricotta (with sugar snaps and tomato butter) had us totally smitten and sitting back in the Dolomites. Incredibly fresh and local gold band snapper perfectly cooked (with red capsicum confit, caramelised onion and almond sable) paid honourable tribute to the superb quality of our local Northern Rivers seafood and a beautifully moist Esperanza pork (with the very best crackling!), BBQ’d cabbage, carrot purée and Celtic mustard) was just sublime. We’d had ‘elegant sufficiency’ after mains, but the dessert menu beckoned and we simply could not “pass.” We’re so happy that we succumbed! Pure delights of flavour, balance and texture. Again, extraordinary triumphs of culinary talent. Unfortunately, when dining in the Byron locale, it’s sometimes the glib detachment or simply dismissive “service” from uncaring wait staff which so bitterly disappoints. Not so at Cadeau! Holly and her staff were exceptional hosts! Their warmth, professional competence and relaxed attention to detail was faultless. My friends and I felt totally privileged and honoured to dine at such an incredible establishment as Cadeau, and we all vowed to return. Thank you a million Giorgio, Holly and your wonderful team at Cadeau. We will be back!

We loved our meal at Cadeau! My partner and I shared 3 small plates, 1 main and 2 desserts (plus bread and a potato cake) and that was perfect. Each dish was interesting and delicious. Lovely atmosphere in the outside area and great service.

Wow... What a meal, what a restaurant. Was recommended Cadeau by a Byron local, and it was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. The service was first rate, and the food extraordinary. We ate the Banquet menu, and every plate was incredible. The standout dish was the octopus barigoule, which we would come back to eat time and time again, it was perfection. The chicken liver parfait, cheese malakoff and Dorper lamb with fregola were also deeply memorable. Worth the drive from Byron, the best meal we have in years. Bonus was just how good the wine list and cocktails were. Thank you to the staff and chefs for making it such an incredibly enjoyable night out. Will be back without question.

Im not really big on leaving reviews, buuuut…Been there with my boyfriend on a Monday and had the most delightful evening! From delish cocktails and food to ambiance with a very entertaining view to the little kitchen where they make wonders! Food came out in perfect timing and delicious flavours! Oysters were real juicy and fresh. Swordfish had a great combo of flavours. Octopus was unreal, so was the perfectly cooked and flavoured tortellini! Holly was very attentive altogether with her whole staff! Cant wait to be back there!

I love Cadeau - so much care, creativity and thought clearly goes into everything they make. I don’t eat meat and they always have incredible meat free options made with beautiful local produce. Amazing food and drinks and brilliant service.

Cadeau translates to Gift and what a gift it is. Hospitality at the forefront, this establishment feels like Home. The friendly staff are more then accommodating and have a true sense of pride for the restaurant and the food being produced from its kitchen. Speaking of, wow. Perfect balance of technique and simplicity showcasing some delicious local produce. Dishes are creative and perfectly balanced. The Tortelli is literal heaven, though the same can be said for every other dish we tried. I love this dimly lit, moody restaurant. Will definitely be back. Thankyou for feeding us. lol
