Nestled amidst palm foliage and umbrellas on Mullumbimbi St, in the popular and happening seaside village of Bruns, lies the hidden gem Cadeau!
Both the food and service are outstanding - impeccable actually!
And with such reasonable pricing for a dining experience of this exceptional calibre, Cadeau is definitely worth the visit!
The care, attention and expert technique that Swiss-born chef Giorgio Ravelli imbues into every element makes for a tantalising and exciting menu full of diverse flavour complexity, balance and exquisite delicacy.
With every exquisite mouthful Chef Ravelli, who brings his refined skills to Bruns from esteemed Michelin-starred establishments such as The Ledbury and The Clove Club, transports your taste buds to the very best of Europe; but the vibe is laid back subtropical, warm and relaxed.
What good fortune for both locals and visitors to Brunswick Heads!
We had a couple of starters - both titillated our taste buds! Possibly the best baba ghanoush you’ll ever taste, beautifully complemented by fermented daikon and charred potato flat bread (to die for!) and the octopus barigoule (with fried sourdough and garlic aioli) which was impossibly tender with a depth of flavour leaving you craving for more. Not wanting to leave a skerrick, we mopped that plate clean with extra sourdough!
Mains were also each a unique piece of Giorgio’s culinary genius.
The most delicate tortelli encasing goat’s curd and ricotta (with sugar snaps and tomato butter) had us totally smitten and sitting back in the Dolomites.
Incredibly fresh and local gold band snapper perfectly cooked (with red capsicum confit, caramelised onion and almond sable) paid honourable tribute to the superb quality of our local Northern Rivers seafood and a beautifully moist Esperanza pork (with the very best crackling!), BBQ’d cabbage, carrot purée and Celtic mustard) was just sublime.
We’d had ‘elegant sufficiency’ after mains, but the dessert menu beckoned and we simply could not “pass.” We’re so happy that we succumbed! Pure delights of flavour, balance and texture. Again, extraordinary triumphs of culinary talent.
Unfortunately, when dining in the Byron locale, it’s sometimes the glib detachment or simply dismissive “service” from uncaring wait staff which so bitterly disappoints.
Not so at Cadeau! Holly and her staff were exceptional hosts!
Their warmth, professional competence and relaxed attention to detail was faultless.
My friends and I felt totally privileged and honoured to dine at such an incredible establishment as Cadeau, and we all vowed to return.
Thank you a million Giorgio, Holly and your wonderful team at Cadeau. We will be back!
