'Kerouac's Road: The Beat of a Nation' Brings the Spirit of Jack Kerouac's America Into the 21st Century | Condé Nast Traveler

"I loved seeing Cadillac Ranch as one of those surprising roadside art installations that makes you pull over and say, “oh my gosh, look at this amazing art installation.” It encapsulated for me the fun, serendipitous moments of an American road trip — the kind of visual oddity that stitches together the country and evokes the same wonder that Kerouac celebrated." - Kat Chen

We were staying at one of the hotels attached to the Mall of America and went to an evening concert. When we got back at around 10:30 pm, we knew the mall was closed, but Cadillac Ranch stays open until Midnight. We were starving and even though Cadillac Ranch switches to a smaller after-hours menu once the mall closes, we decided to give it a try. We were surprised at how good the limited menu selection was, and at how good all of the items we ordered tasted. We've eaten here many times and it's always been great. And that night was no different. The food was amazing as usual despite the smaller menu, and there were even some tasty vegetarian options. The service was great too, and we love the vibe of this restaurant. When our kids were little they even got to go on the mechanical bull which they loved. So if you find yourself hungry after the mall closes, Cadillac Ranch has got you covered. Their full menu during normal hours is even better, but the pictures in this review are for food from the after-hours menu. This is a great restaurant!

Dinner her tonight was very good at this restaurant located in The Mall of America. The food was excellent. The service very good and our server Kyle was attentive and too care of our needs. She was very polite and efficient

I went to the Cadillac Ranch for a late lunch on a weekday. It wasn't crowded, which was nice. The server came around to check on us and we didn't wait long for anything from her. The decor is rock based with guitars and classic rock images covered the walls. The mechanical bull sat there waiting for a rider but nobody rode it while I was there. The food was good. The tots were crispy but the fries were not as crispy. My Juicy Lucy was very juicy and tasted really good.

Dropped in with a group of 25 guys on a Monday night and they sat us in 5 minutes. Service was fantastic beginning to end. We wanted for nothing. The refills and beer orders were filled as quickly as we could order them. The whole restaurant team did a wonderful job. Only thing... never a good way to serve a group this big. If you wait until every meal is cooked, every meal is cold by the time they come out. If you serve them as they get done, the first people are done before the last people even get food. Honestly... should probably just ask the group and explain they may want to go with the latter. The went with waiting until they were all done. Must everything was cold. The porkchops and the steaks were therefore dry as well. We all understood. It wasn't a deal breaker. But personally...if you follow me, you also know I like dark beer. Not a single dark beer. I got a pale ale. Not bad really as far a light beers go... but it definitely made me wish we were somewhere else, Like Cowboy Jack's maybe. The have great dark beer options and although this experience was ok, I'd personally choose somewhere else from now on.

We had the best experience at Cadillac Ranch in the Mall of America. Our server was Johnathan, phenomenal service, not only did he recommend great drinks but he made us feel welcome and right at home. We had the fish tacos, chicken tinga tacos, and Rocky Mountain oysters 🐂🪺. Delicious! I highly recommend this place you will NOT be disappointed.

Google
HOLY!! This place is my go to for a great meal, appetizer and fun at a good price. We got a pretzel appetizer. It came with spicy garlic mustard, ranch & nachos cheese to dip. It was soft and warm and HUGE! Salads were steak & blue cheese crumble & chicken Cesar. Everything was amazing as consistently expected. The only reason I give atmosphere less stars is because the music and such is a bit loud.

Akhilesh P.

Google
I tried the fish tacos and the server offered me grilled jalapeno to top it with! Loved the presentation and a perfect light dinner. Beer to go with it - light lager. They also have bull riding if you want to be adventurous

Google
We’ve had steaks from all over and let me tell you. The ribeye steak was out of this world. Has to be the best I’ve ever had and that’s saying a lot. Must have and well definitely come back for more.

Yelp
Updated review! I have continued coming here over the years and always have a good experience! The vibes are fun, the food is tasty, and the service is typically pretty good. On today's visit, we were not greeted by the host. In fact she looked pissed to be there. I interacted with her a second time to get another kids menu and she seemed super annoyed, wouldn't make eye contact and didn't smile. Definitely not the kind of person you want greeting people into your restaurant... The vibes in here are always good! Lots of tvs, the music is good and they have a bull you can ride! Our server was sweet. It was a very busy Saturday, so it did take her a second to get our drinks refilled but I also understand it was busy. She was friendly and did make sure our order was correct. The food! I got the fish tacos and 1/2lb of chicken wings (4 wings). The fish tacos are one of my faves. Just good flavors and textures! I got a smaller order of wings because I got the tacos too but I believe they go up to 2lbs. Their buffalo is delicious! Good heat but not too crazy! Minnesota approved! My boys enjoyed the grilled cheese and fries. Large kids portions, so my 9 and 5 year old share. I forgot they have a weird assortment of fries... I wish they would pick one and stick to it. Overall this remains our favorite place to eat at the mall!

Yelp
At the MOA, many different restaurants but this stuck out bc of the juicy Lucy Really nice decor with an ode to rock music The shareable appetizer was delicious. I enjoyed the curds and nacho dip Reminds me of a Hard Rock Cafe

Yelp
We went here for brunch, but then realized there was no brunch - only lunch lol. The food was still good and we had a great server. Everyone enjoyed their food! The shrimp tacos arent spicy lol.

Yelp
It's in the Mall of America. I stopped and had a beer while the women folk were shopping. Sat at the bar where a couple of lovely young ladies were taking care of a bunch of abandoned Dads and, in my case, granddads. They have a mechanical bull and and awesome picture of The Rolling Stones on the wall.

Yelp
Everyone was so kind and the vibe was so very Minnesota. We were stopping in from Texas and needed a nice cheese curd fix before hitting the airport and ended up finding a piece of home. The food was hot, delicious, and reasonable for beef prices in the area. We especially enjoyed the kick in the boom boom sauce.

Yelp
Fun place for drinks and lunch! To the chagrin of my fiancé, we were at the Mall of America while visiting MN. I decided to try and make him smile by finding a good place in the mall for lunch...and tada! we found CR. It has a riding bull in the center of the restaurant, and the hostess said she held the record of 38 seconds on the fastest setting!! Impressive! We decided to skip the bull and go straight to booze and food. I had the fish tacos, which were perfect. Four tacos! Grilled and blackened fish, crunchy cabbage, a bit of spicy jalapeño, and salsa on the side. My fiancé had a giant plate of BBQ wings with a salad (trying to be healthier?) and my son had a Nashville, hot chicken sandwich. Everyone was super happy with the food. For drinks, I had the watermelon margarita and my son had the Orange old fashioned. Both were delicious. My fiancé kept up his guise of health consciousness and ordered water with lemon. lol This place was a do-over, even if it is in the mall. Service was wonderful and friendly. Thank you!

Yelp
Was headed to see the new Minecraft movie at the MOA, but had time to grab a quick dinner. Decided to stop at the Cadillac Ranch since it looked pretty cool. We were greet and sat quickly. The place reminded me of Cowboy Jacks if I'm being honest, but its all good. Server got us waters and we ordered some pretty simple dishes. My burger was ok but the bottom bun became soggy quick, my fries were of all different cuts which was super weird. It was almost like they dumped the bottom of the fries in my mental cup and served it. My son's flat bread was cut like a 8-slice regular pizza. Where have you been, that a flatbread is cut into triangle slices vs square cuts lol? Huh! Not a super big deal, but it was just odd. Overall, the place is ok if you're just looking for a quick bite. - Anthony

Yelp
Stopped in for a happy hour with my husband. We each had a local beer; I'm stuck on the Surly Furious IPA. Delicious. We also split the cheese queso. It was ok.

Yelp
We visited here for the first time on Christmas Eve. The staff was really friendly and welcoming. The decor was also rich and warm. There weren't many people in the restaurant and we did have to wait a length of time for our food to come out. The problem for us was the cost. We odered 2 beers, 2 shots of Jack and 2 taco orders. Nothing came with the small size street type tacos. Our bill came to over $75! Shots for $10.50 each seems steep. The tacos were good. Nothing special. Not worth retun to for us.

Yelp
I've been to CR a few times in the past but many years between visits. Went recently for HH and they had pretty decent offerings. I went during the week and the mall wasn't as busy as I thought it would be despite it being right before the holidays & winter break. The restaurant was pretty chill. I like the rock-n-roll theme. We ordered from the HH menu, supreme pizza (my mom), chicken tacos, fried pickles & drinks, the Rock-n-Roll Kool Aid & Georgia Peach Crush. My mom enjoyed the pizza, she said she really liked the crispiness of the pepperoni. The tacos were different. More of a wrap vibe. It was tortilla filled with coleslaw, shredded chicken topped with cheese and an avocado slice & a side of sauce/salsa. They were okay but probably wouldn't order them again. For the HH price they do give out generous portions. The Georgia Peach Crush was better tasting than the Kool aid drink but overall they were both just okay. Our waitress was also the bartender. She was nice & attentive. They offer mechanical bull rides for $1, we did not partake but if that's your thing go for it.

Jessica D.

Yelp
The burger was okay-ish but very bland and the cheese (I got the JL) was all in one spot. The fries were cold on arrival. But the service? Abysmal. Like...shockingly bad. I was done eating for a good ten minutes before my waitress even bothered to see if I might want my bill. Will not be back.

Yelp
Decided to stop at Cadillac ranch while visiting mall of America because I wanted to try a Juicy Lucy. It was pretty busy but I was able to be seated near the bar quickly. I ordered a MANGO MOSCATO SANGRIA and JUICY LUCY USDA Choice | American | sautéed onions | pickles | medium-well. Now, I was told to try the Juicy Lucy at the original location ( Matt's bar) but there was no time so I was hoping Cadillac Ranch would not fall short. The Juicy Lucy was delivered to me by the manager whom advised to be careful how I cut the burger because there have been instances where the cheese shot out. Now the juicy Lucy is a burger with cheese in between two patty's. I did a horrible attempt at cutting the burger BUT no cheese escaped and caused a scene. The burger was " juicy" and cooked perfectly. I have no clue what the burger would taste like at the original location but Cadillac Ranch juicy Lucy made me a fan of the burger!

Jeff S.

Yelp
One of our go to places in the past. This time not so much. Menu seems dismal compared to what I remember. Food quality and presentation very mediocre. Margarita was tasty. Left most of my food.

Yelp
Madison was absolutely amazing! She took heart care of us and drinks were always full and she checked on us regularly. We had a build your own burger and the meatballs app. Meatballs were delicious and came w little bruschetta. I also loved the passionfruit margarita - strong and not too sweet. It wasn't too busy and our food came out super quick.

Yelp
My Bride and I felt a little peckish, We we're not in the mood for a full sit down, but a few appetizers would suffice with a nice Pinot. Since this was our first time at Mall of America, we decided to go with Cadillac Ranch! Jasmine was our Wait Staff, Quite a professional & a easy disposition. We ordered the following: Fried Pickles, Queso Fundito, & an order of Nacho's with Steak, Pinot Noir was the Traveler; Had a bit of balanced spice with cherries & berry flavor. Certainly hit the Spot. A nice place with a Team who enjoys bringing their "A" Game. Mangia & Cheers!

Yelp
Waited 20 mins for a server to come to us. Then the food took over an hour. THERES TWO OF US

Yelp
Very middle of the road choice at the mall of America. I like that it had a decent kids menu but I had a hard time settling on something that sounded good for me to eat. I went with shrimp tacos and they were decent. I liked the cole slaw and the other toppings but the shrimp was a little too spicy in an unpleasant way.

Yelp
I picked this place out and we got to our seats no waiting the service was good we were sitting next to a mechanical bull we got the food and it was so delicious our new fav place

Yelp
Nice place in MOA. Great happy hour, good selection of beer, lots of TVs to watch the games. Food was good too. Friendly, fast server. Would recommend.
google avatar

Benjamin R.

Yelp
Slow and inattentive service followed by lukewarm food. Entirely meh. Not at all busy.
google avatar

Edward S.

Yelp
All the food we got was good, not great. The service was pretty slow but they were very busy. The interior is a bit odd as it's a mix of rock and roll and ranch/cowboy. Overall a decent option for sit down food at Mall of America.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was great service was great awesome place to eat Cadillac ranch... If you don't want to eat in the mall this is the place to go..... You're not fighting for a table that already has smear marks all over it..... Super awesome restaurant/bar
google avatar

Yelp
In the mall of America but wouldn't go back. Below average mall food. It's a cool looking establishment and service was good but it gets the low ratings for the food. Unhealthy options only. Would have loved cleaner options.

Matt A.

Yelp
If I could give negative stars I would. The service was horrible and the food was soggy. The cheese curds had shrimp taste to them. I wish I took my 70 Dollars and went somewhere else.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick bite to eat with my girlfriend. I ordered a margarita and ordered the chicken nachos. The nachos were AMAZING and I loved how they doctored up each Individual chip. Nachos 5/5 Margarita 3/5 - my first tasted like there was no tequila and my 2nd one was deadly strong!
google avatar

Maggie V.

Yelp
This place was bustling therefore a little slow. But our server was friendly and kept us updated. Everyone liked their food. The only downside were the fried pickles which were quite dry. The boneless ribs were delish as were the burgers and the Nashville hot chicken. Oh and their margaritas are delicious.
google avatar

Claudine J.

Yelp
So I've never been to a Cadillac Ranch so wasn't sure what to expect. The menu was cool, there's a mechanical bull in the restaurant which was odd for me, but people were on it so guess it's popular. Our server was nice but man we barely saw here and I ran out of water and never got a refill so def not given them a 5 star. However.....man those spicy shrimp tacos were on fire.....not spicy fire but were pretty damn good! Wished I had more than 4 tho . Husband got the Lucy juicy which is why we came and he said the burger was pretty good. Overall I'd say is a good place to bring the family especially the kiddos since the selection is pretty good.
google avatar

Courtney S.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere. I loved the decor with the different music artists around. Also the music was perfect 90s top 40. They had a mechanical bull and all. The food was regular American. Better tasting than a basic chain but just average. Our service was not very attentive but not overly so and it wasn't very crowded. I had a Lucy burger and I was under impressed. The Rocky Mountain oysters tasted like straight buffalo so I didn't get a flavor of the meat. I also thought the Mac n cheese bites were basic.
google avatar

Donna H.

Yelp
I came in around 430 pm after a bit of shopping. I was pleasantly surprised to get a happy hour menu. $4.50 beer? Sign me up. I then ordered the happy hour tacos that were only $7. There were 4 of them and OMG so delicious!! I loves the mix of music, everything from Luke Bryan to Ed Sheeran. And to top it off, they have a mechanical bull. Only one guy gave it a try while I was here, but it sure looked fun!!
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
Good burgers, fries were just okay. Not great service. Hosts and server need to smile. Probably wouldn't return.
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
Typical over priced mall food. Tried the juicy Lucy, coconut shrimp and cheese curds. Best part was the curds. The lucy was cooked medium without me asking and the blood didnt go well with the runny cheese. The coconut shrimp tasted like low quality frozen ones and could not be eaten. Service was great but would not recommend eating here. Stick with one of the fast food options when at the mall.
google avatar

Sean P.

Yelp
I won't even get into the food as it was fine, but with how everything else went... this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. First off, they were out of their Juicy Lucy for one of our party's orders, which wasn't a big deal. But then their replacement order - Buffalo chicken flatbread... they didn't have the chicken, which we found out nearly 30 minutes after this order was placed and literally less than 1 minute before they brought the other 3 dishes ordered. What were they cooking/making during that time for this type of delay? Why would this not be addressed promptly after ordering? It makes no sense and ultimately led to a very poor experience.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Inside the mall of America. We decided to give this place a try. It had a country vibe with a very large seating area. Service was great and food was average. I tried a juicy Lucy burger. The fries have a variety of types which was a fun option.

Cathy O.

Yelp
We were a party of 12 adults and 2 children and we have NEVER had such POOR service at a restaurant! We had a reservation at 6 pm on a Thursday evening, it was NOT busy and we waited 45 minutes to get our drinks! Then we waited another HOUR for our food and the food was lukewarm and nothing to brag about and once again, the restaurant was NOT even busy!! Our waitress Jasmine checked on our table once during this time and their were no apologies addressed to our table from management for the horrible service! We would not recommend this establishment to anyone!! Do better! Word of mouth travels fast!!

Yelp
Food? Good. Atmosphere? Good. Music? Love it! Service . . this is where we gotta talk. We ordered a watermelon margarita and asked if we wanted it "normal or spicy". We asked for normal. They've provided a spicy watermelon margarita with spice coating the rim. A waitress, not ours, comes. This place is not at all busy. In the slightest. Can't imagine why. The waitress says "hi." We say "hi" back. No response. Just awkward staring. We finally spoke up that we're ready to order but also want a replacement watermelon margarita. Was told, "well, the watermelon margarita is usually spicy." We responded, "okay, but we want it without spice on the rim." Why are you going to ask normal, not mild, NORMAL, and gaslight our response when we don't get what we ordered? Asked for a salad and was given a stupid look when asked to replace the dressing. These guys need to work on their poker faces and communication, especially, y'know ACTUALLY TALKING TO CUSTOMERS. Our original waitress was a nice lady with long straight dark hair. She was great. It was the one waitress with curly hair that just had a patronizing look and tone to us for asking what we ordered.

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Luz the server could not have been kinder or more caring! Absolutely made the experience! The food was also lovely we had steak and burger. Would definitely recommend!

Rohan R.

Yelp
f you're staying at the JW Marriott in Mall of America, and looking for a nearby spot to grab a drink and a bite, Cadillac Ranch is just a stone's throw away. This place serves up a blend of American comfort food with a side of country-rock atmosphere. Let's start with the highlight of my visit - the Blood Orange Old Fashioned. This cocktail is an absolute winner! The smoky notes perfectly complement the citrusy kick of the blood orange, creating a complex and satisfying flavor profile. It's the kind of drink that makes you want to sit back, relax, and order another round. For the main course, I went with the Cadillac Cowboy burger. The flavors were on point - a juicy patty topped with all the fixings that make a burger great. However, I asked for it well-done, and it came out a tad overcooked. While it was still tasty, it lost some of its potential juiciness. Overall, Cadillac Ranch is a solid choice if you're in the area. The cocktails are stellar, and while the food has room for improvement in terms of execution, the flavors are there. Plus, the convenience factor for JW Marriott guests can't be beaten. Pro tip: If you're a burger fan, maybe ask for your patty cooked medium instead of well-done to ensure maximum juiciness.

Yelp
"Weird" is the right word to use, I took that from another review. Tried to order a fajita burger from one of the table menus, you can't "I can't even punch it in on the computer" that's from the bar only, the bar in the same restaurant. We both ordered the same thing with slight variations, someone who was not our server dropped them off to the wrong people, so I got to enjoy mine with a bite missing, maybe have the server who knows who ordered what drop it off. The ranch/side sauces needed to ordered twice. Soda tasted off. My credit card came back wet, yes wet, and no pen to sign the bill. Just a lot of "weird".
google avatar

Michelle H.

Yelp
Of all places you can eat in the Mall of America, I would not recommend this place. While the location is convenient, the food and service were not great. The service was very slow to start. The server came over to our table about 20 minutes after she dropped off drinks to tell us that our "food would be out shortly" but we hadn't even ordered yet! We ordered cheese curds to start, which were very unimpressive. The ranch and chipotle ranch were pretty good, though. Then I ordered the Buffalo chicken flatbread for dinner and I could only stomach a couple pieces. It wasn't terrible, but it was very bland. I didn't even bother taking the leftovers home. My kids had the kids mac and cheese, which was just microwaved Kraft easy-mac, which didn't come with any sides. Good enough for my 6 year old, I guess. We also had to ask multiple times for our water to be refilled starting from before our food was even delivered, and the only time our server refilled it was as she dropped off the check. Also, I ordered a side of ranch with my flatbread, but never received it. I asked about it when the server checked on us, but it never came. We ended up having enough left over from the cheese curds to last the 2-3 pieces I ate so I didn't bother asking again. However, when the bill came, I saw I was charged for the ranch I never received! I asked to have it removed from my bill and the server removed it. All in all, it wasn't the worst experience, but it wasn't good. I regret not choosing another restaurant, since there are so many choices at MOA!
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
Very basic food, nothing special at all! Over priced, but you expect that at MOA! Best thing was the cheese curds.

Jamie O.

Yelp
Let me start by saying the service was good and our waitress was sweet. However, it was such a strange experience. I ordered the coconut shrimp meal. It was NOT good. The shrimp were super soggy/mushy and watery inside the coconut breading. I ate 3 and left the remaining 7-8ish on my plate. The waitress remarked when taking my plate - "The shrimp aren't good, are they?". I told her they were mushy and not good. She said she doesn't understand why it's on the menu because everyone who gets it doesn't like it. She then proceeded to bring me my bill with the full- priced $19 shrimp on it. Why didn't she warn me when ordering it? Or, when she saw I threw the majority away, why didn't she give me a discount on the meal? Especially if this is a common theme? Pretty weird. I'd highly recommend removing that item from the menu -- and certainly not ordering it!
google avatar

Katie N.

Yelp
Sat at the bar and had excellent customer service. I had the juicy Lucy which was underwhelming. I was expecting the cheese to be oozing out which really wasn't the case. I ordered it with a side of tots. I was still hungry after the burger so I ordered the brownie with ice cream and that really hit the spot. It had pieces of heath bars. The brownie was warm and the ice cream was cold and that was probably my favorite part of the meal. Decent spot in the mall. Sit at the bar for fast service.
google avatar

Jade W.

Yelp
The biggest pros were that we were able to be seated with a very short wait during busier dinner hours and that the service was good. For an appetizer, we ordered the Nacho Mama's chili nacho tater tot dish. It arrived at our table quickly and the perfect temp. I would recommend it! We ordered three burgers, all of which were decent but nothing exciting. (but also nothing bad to say). The most interesting part was the Cadillac Fries - a mix of French fries, waffle fries, and potato wedges! I liked the variety. We all agreed that the meal sizes were decent too. The strawberry smash cocktail was alright, not too sweet and also not very strong. Again, not exciting but also no complaints. Objectively the prices seemed a bit high, but when taking into consideration they're located within the Mall of America, it is expected. Atmosphere isn't too loud despite there being a large bar area. Everything was very clean too.
google avatar

Cece S.

Yelp
The service at Cadillac Ranch was great. Everyone (like everyone that we encountered in Minnesota) was really friendly and super sweet. We tried out the wings for our appetizer and they were tasty, but nothing to rave about. My husband wanted to try the fried chicken, but our server advised against it and recommended the Cajun pasta instead. My husband liked it, but again, nothing special about it. I ordered the famous Juicy Lucy burger and while it came out hot and melty, the burger really lacked seasoning, as did the side of tater tots. Great service, but food was nothing out of the ordinary.
google avatar

Pat K.

Yelp
The buffalo chicken flatbread is bar none the best ever. I also had the Rocky Mountain oysters. They are cut into strips, breaded and fried then finished with a spicy aioli. The drinks are amazing but the food is better.

M S.

Yelp
The restaurant was very nice inside the booths were nice it was clean. The service was good although there was only 5 tables so it wasn't busy at all. The food wasn't great. My hamburger and my husband's hamburger was not good. The fries were not good either. We won't go back.
google avatar

Lisa F.

Yelp
We had a table of 10 and our experience was very good. Waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about menu and suggestions. Our drinks cake from the happy hour menu and the classic margarita, Georgia Peach Crush, and Texas mule were big hits with the group. The rock and roll Kool aid was ok. The food was a hit with everyone. I had the rocky mountain oysters and they were good but a little less sauce would have been better. The cauliflower bites were seasoned just right. The cheese curds were chewy, not sure if that's what it should be as its my 1st try. The juicy Lucy review was good to the 2 at the table - watch the hot cheese in the middle. Overall we were all satisfied and sated.
google avatar

Yelp
Stayed in Bloomington for a week long work trip and went to Cadillac Ranch five out of the 6 nights. The food and service were excellent! My servers were Shawn, Marie, Ciarra, Katie, and Elda. The Chicken Diablo Pasta, Philly Cheesesteak, and the Cowboy Burger all hit the spot! If I'm ever back in town, I'll make sure to stop in for a bite. Well worth it!

Yelp
Something like a three or four. A burger and a few beers was like $50 bucks just so's you know. Solid hospitality. Enjoyable beers on draft. Loved the '80s metal tunes. Decent enough overall even if there's something somewhat homogeneously commercial about them. They do cook a burger to order so don't under order doneness.
