"Sampling coffee history at the source The Bicerin is a gastronomic speciality of Turin. I love both chocolate and espresso, and was delighted to discover this warming confection in a glass, also called a Bicerin. The drink is layered into the glass oh so carefully: espresso first, then cocoa and finally a topping of thick cream. Sublime! There are more elegant places to enjoy a Bicerin in Turin, but if you want to try the drink at the place where it was created more than 200 years ago, head for Piazza della Consolata and Caffè Al Bicerin. Sit at one of the six or so tables in this cafe where, as the locals say, "everything tastes like history", order your drink and enjoy with a morning newspaper. You will also have opportunity for people-watching as locals queue at the counter for sweet breakfast breads. When you are done, go next door to the tiny shop and buy cocoa or chocolates in old-fashioned tins to take home and preserve the memory of this special treat. By Anita Breland"

Caffè Al Bicerin is a charming slice of Turin’s rich coffee heritage. Their signature layered espresso and chocolate drink is delightful, the ambiance cozy and historic, and though it can get busy, the experience—and the taste—is absolutely worth the wait. A must-visit for any coffee lover exploring the city!

My second time at the cafe for the Bicerin and nice courtyard feel. The service was friendly and the drink a good balance between chocolate, espresso and cream. Not sweet nor bitter and they kindly advised you not to stir the drink so that you could taste the different layers.

The café was founded in 1763 and is famous for its signature drink, the Bicerin—a rich combination of espresso, hot chocolate, and whipped milk, traditionally served in a glass, and should be drank without stirring the mug. The atmosphere is very cozy, there are plenty place to sit inside or outside.

Wonderful atmosphere and excellent bicerin, well worth all the hype. Why not treating yourself with delicious coffee cum chocolate cum Crema di latte (not quite whipped cream, more delicate than that) and a mix of some of the best biscuits I’ve ever tasted. Absolutely worth every cent.

A must visit in Turin! Bicerin was very nice, and the cookies too.

Visiting Caffè Al Bicerin dal 1763 is like stepping back in time. As the oldest café in Italy and a historic landmark tied to the birthplace of Italian unification, it offers not just a meal but a rich cultural experience. The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Bicerin Fredda con Panna—a luxurious blend of chocolate, coffee, and cream. It’s smooth, indulgent, and a must-try for anyone visiting Torino. The café’s intimate ambiance, with its wooden interiors and vintage charm, makes it the perfect place to relax and soak in history.

Must visit in Turin. Their Bicerin is amazing ! Try to imagine yourself as Puccini, Nietsche etc who seldom visit this cafe in the past

My first and only time having Bicerin, so I don't have anything to compare it to :) but I was very happy with my experience there. Very yummy combo with a tiny portion of biscotti extra on the side. The coffee definitely is on the expensive side, with 7.90€ for a glass of Bicerin and 1.20€ for two biscottis. For me it was worth it because I only had time for one Bicerin and wanted to make sure it would be just perfect. Small tip: I went there on a Saturday afternoon in January and there was a queue outside for a table in the café. So you might need to wait a little bit to get a table. If it's not too cold outside you can just sit at a table and skip the queue and still enjoy quite a cozy vibe ;)

Yelp
Came here specifically for the famous Bicerin drink. I wish you could taste the espresso more but the chocolate was so smooth and creamy. A bit more expensive than we thought but worth it. The cafe is also out of the tourist zone so that was nice. They had menus in English

Yelp
This was a very nice experience. Situated right next to the Santuario della Consolata, it's convenient sure, but I had stopped into another spot for a Bicerin and this was the far better option. I see another yelper says this is a tourist trap, but the Bicerin was only 0.50 more than the other location and the quality was superior. The staff were excellent, friendly and quick. They kindly explained that Bicerin is to be drunk 'as is' You do not mix it! If you are only trying one spot in Turin for Bicerin, this would be my recommendation.

Yelp
The perfect treat on a cold, cloudy fall afternoon. Get the Bicerin, of course...and DO NOT MIX IT! You're supposed to taste the different layers of the Bicerin just the way they are. I found amazing that the wooden floor and the marble tables are the same ones as the 1700s. So many famous writers, artists, and philosophers came to this little café. It feels cozy and romantic and perfect. Very important: the café is tiny and with a handful of tables. I would advise to go during the week or in the late morning, when it's not too crowded and you don't have to wait to get seated.

Yelp
Go for the history alone...and grab a table on a cold day and have the original Bicerin . This place has been around for centuries and is probably the most historical cafe in all of Torino. There is always a line. This little spot is magical.

Yelp
Great coffee, bicerin and hot chocolate. Cookies great too. Nice place to stop while touring the city.

Yelp
One must never leave Turin without having the bicerin. The drink is pretty much layered with coffee, chocolate, and foam. It's rather underwhelming considering the hype. Funny coz they told us not to stir but served it with a spoon anyway. The service staff tries to be helpful but because their English is very limited, they avoid you instead. At least, have someone who who speaks the language for the tourist clientele. I would come back for the coffee though and those cookies! The cookies are yummy but pretty pricey.

Yelp
Oh, my God, Oh my God, Oh, my God!!! This place is incredible. What a wonderful mouth orgasm. No words to describe the chocolate liquor or anything else on the little sampler plate I ordered. I'm going back to Italy just to go here. This place is definitely worth going out of the way for. This is not your everyday run of the mill chocolatier, this is so beyond anything I have ever experienced in my chocolate adventures. Just thinking about this place gets my endorphins running a muck.

Yelp
WARNING TOURIST TRAP. Al Bicerin lives off its name, they are the ones who invented the bicerin drink a hundred years back (a mix of espresso, hot chocolate and cream). Nowadays both bicerin and hot chocolate (another signature drink) are so much better AND cheaper elsewhere in town, try for example Mulassano on via Po. A pity, also given the wonderful location, on a cute square, in front of the Consolata church.

Yelp
What a delight. Bicerin is a traditional hot drink native to Turin, Italy, made of espresso, drinking chocolate, and whole milk served layered in a small rounded glass. We were instructed not to stir but sip the layered drink to experience this unique drink. Afterwards We met the owner in the gift shop attached next to cafe. Great place!

Yelp
The Cioccolateria al Bicerin was a wonderful experience. The slightly higher price for their speciality, the "Bicerin" (a hot chocolate with coffee and cream) is really worth it. You enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of a little piazza with a delicious hot drink and optionally a selection of cookies. The waitresses are exceptionally friendly, multilingual and very helpful. I'd say that this was the best hot chocolate drink I had in Turin!

Amanda D.

Yelp
I had to go to Al Bicerin to see where the bicerin drink (espresso, hot milk and melted chocolate) was born! The place is small, cozy, has an old world feel, and a wall dressed with jars full of candy, but it's way overpriced...5 euro for a small glass... I probably won't be back because of the prices, but I can say I've tried the "original"!

Yelp
From start to finish our visit here was pure joy. It was a rainy, cold day when we wandered into Al Bicerin. The lovely lady in her pearls and beautiful outfit who waited on us wanted to know where we were from and when she didn't know it, she waited while hubs pulled up a map and showed her. We had the usual, she explained how to drink it properly and it came with a generous portion of "biscuits" (aka delish Italian cookies). She also mentioned if we wanted more biscuits she would bring them. It's a tiny place with small tables, but each came with a freshly lit candle as well. A treat on a dreary day. Do wander in to the church across the Piazza. It is lovely as well. We so enjoyed savoring every moment of our visit here.

Yelp
Al Bicerin is recognized as the most historical bar in Turin and tourists and locals definitely take the time to appreciate that, meaning that there is often a cue outside of the cafe in order to get a seat. The interior is very intimate and original and every detail is considerd as there are mirror lined walls, beautifully antique looking menus, and a candle lighting each table. The menu of course contains it's famous Bicerin which was a lot more expensive than I had expected but it was understandable considering the ingredients and rich history that comes along with the beverage. It's best traits, in my opinion, are definitely it's location beside the beautiful church, and the shop beside it. Even if you just step in the shop to take a picture and admire the busy yet beautiful decor, it is worth it. The sweets are amazing and all made in the kitchen area behind the shop that connects the store to the cafe. I highly reccommend the traditional 'Al Bicerin' chocolate bars. They are AMAZING.

Yelp
The Bicerin they serve here is really delicious. The service is excellent, our waiter spoke English, German and French fluently und explained detailed how we should drink the Bicerin to have the most pleasant experience. We had a few tasty cookies to go with the drink which is only 2€ more. Well not really cheap, 8,50€ all together, but a nice afternoon at a nice caffee in a nice small quiet plaza in Turin is worth it.

Yelp
The Bicerin used to be a great place, a real gem, as described by some of the other reviews, but it has become a victim of its own success and of having been featured in countless newspapers and travel magazines. The Bicerin is quaint, but very, very small, so be prepared to queue up for a long time at peak times and in the tourist season. Originally their claim to make the best hot chocolate (and the famous Bicerin) was true, but alas the chocolate is now somewhat thinner, either to accommodate the tastebuds of scores of tourists visiting it or simply for reasons of economy. I would still recommend a visit if you are a tourist, but if you are staying more than one day you and prefer something more comfortable why not try Baratti & Milano or the cafe situated in the Royal Castle precinct, or one of many other similar places in Piazza San Carlo (St Charle's Square) mostly all oozing 19th century charm, but where you can at least lounge about in greater comfort.
