Founder of Blue Bottle Coffee Uncovers His Favorite Tokyo Cafés - AFAR

"A 51-year-old Shōwa‑era kissaten in Minami‑Senju that feels locked in time, where the air is heavy with apple pie and roasting coffee beans and classical music plays in the background. Staff in mint‑green shirts serve customers who sit in bulky leather‑and‑wood chairs amid dark wood wainscoting, while a master barista meticulously prepares volcanic, complex brews via slow‑drip pour‑over with a gooseneck kettle, serving them in wide‑brimmed ceramic cups. The owner travels regularly to coffee plantations and roasts a world‑spanning selection of beans in‑house (Indonesia, Peru, Malawi, Sumatran varieties and more), and his wife — trained in French pastry — supplies a warm, American‑style apple pie whose imperfect buttery shortcrust rounds out what feels like a master class in coffee, pastry, and Japanese omotenashi hospitality." - Adam H. Probably some of the best artisanal coffee we had while in Tokyo! The music made for a lovely atmosphere, and the cakes were great as well! This is a great cafe, highly recommend

I lucked upon this place as it was located directly across the street from my hotel. There’s a queue outside most of the day with reason. The coffee is great and the variety of beans is extensive. The service is impeccable, they are kind and very professional. The atmosphere is relaxing and classy. I had the chocolate cake which was rich and delicious. A real treat for coffee lovers!

The coffee here is remarkable! Definitely worth trying their Hot Mocha Java. Their toast here is lovely as well! It compliments very well with the coffee. Pleasent environment ! Definitely a retro Japanese cafe!

A famous coffee shop in the area. Have a large range of selection, including more than 15 types of single blend, various way for coffee making. A very comfortable setting with Bach music in the background. A bit commercial compared some of the other old traditional coffee in Japan, but definitely recommended!

Cafe Bach, is a haven for coffee enthusiasts seeking a blend of Japanese charm and a caffeine kick. This cool and hip coffee shop has become an indispensable part of my daily routine during my time in the city, and its absence is sorely felt when I'm away. The star of the show at Cafe Bach is undoubtedly their expertly crafted coffee drinks. From velvety lattes to robust espressos, each sip is a journey through the nuances of rich, flavourful beans. The baristas exhibit a mastery of their craft, ensuring that every cup is a delightful experience for the senses. The ambiance at Cafe Bach is a perfect blend of modern aesthetics and Japanese warmth. The minimalist decor, paired with a cozy atmosphere, creates an inviting space to relax and savour your drink. Whether you're catching up with friends or finding a quiet corner to work, the cafe offers a versatile setting for any occasion. What sets Cafe Bach apart, however, is the incredibly friendly staff. Their genuine warmth and passion for coffee make each visit a memorable experience. It's more than just a coffee shop; it's a community where the love for exceptional coffee is shared and celebrated. In conclusion, Cafe Bach has carved a special place in my heart with its delicious coffee, cool ambiance, and the welcoming spirit of its staff. A must-visit for anyone in Tokyo craving a daily dose of quality caffeine in a laid-back, stylish setting.

The coffee here is amazing, especially if you've resigned yourself to drinking the canned stuff. The coffee menu is quite extensive, especially if you like black or artisan coffee, and the service/vibe of the place is fantastic. From the looks of things they roast their own beans on site, and having had both pour over and Turkish I can confirm that the coffee is well worth the money. A warning, the Cafe is heavily classical music themed, with classical music running 24/7. Not for those who prefer rock 😜

Cannot complain a long, 30mins or so?, waiting time outside the entrance if you know what you can enjoy inside. Superb selection of coffee and freshly made cakes within polite and well trained service. Reservation is recommended on weekends unless going on a stormy day.

This is definitely a go to place for coffee geeks when they traveled to Tokyo! I have read several books about Cafe Bach from Mr. Taguchi Mmoru, I finally got to this place. The cafe itself is located quite far away from any subway stations but you can catch a bus from Asakusa. There are few different types of coffee drink you can choose from the menus but I will strongly recommend the drip coffee with different blends and single origin beans!! The service were definitely on top of the game and the coffee were fantastic I would love to come again next time when I visit Tokyo!!!

Yelp

Yelp
You know you're at the right place for coffee once you stepped into the cafe. The types of Coffee are ranged based on the level of roasting, either with their on blends or specific types of beans. We went with nothing complicated, just cappuccino and cafe Au lait- the foam is so well done and in the perfect consistency and taste, the expresso is a stronger than usual but immensely flavorful, it's so clean that there's none coffee residue in the bottom of the cup. We also ordered a piece of Japanese soufflé cheesecake which is again perfect in texture and taste, fluffy yet creamy. Ambience is relaxing yet elegant with Bach music playing in the background.
