Had an amazing breakfast experience here! The staff were super welcoming and made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. The food came out really fast — no long wait at all — and everything was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. You can tell they care about both quality and service. It’s not easy to find a place that gets it all right, but this spot definitely does. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in Taupō — we’ll 100% be back!

Cafe Baku was a great place, awesome vibe, amazing coffee and fabulous breakfast food. The cabinet food was so well presented, I highly recommend you come and try it yourself 🙌.

Absolutely smashing we ordered 1x.French Toast and Blueberry pancakes breakfast. Staff member helpful and friendly a delightful smile. Although no name badges she was possibly pacific islander or maori lovely nature. Definitely a come back to this restaraunt.

Cafes like Cafe Baku take me to my happy place. Walking through the doors and into the decor is refreshing and adds to the natural beauty outside. What a spot! I got caught up in the display cabinet which is I described to my friend as sandwiches on steroids. What a scrumptious sight. I wasn't too hungry so chose the classic cheese scone, my friend had eggs benedict. Didn't take long for everything to come out. Eggs and toast done well! Hot drinks just as impressive. Staff friendly, love, love, love Cafe Baku!

Awesome Cafe Perched on the Taupo waterfront! Great views of the lake and it Opens at 6am which is already fantastic...! Food was very well prepared, ordered the works breakfast, a coffee and the Baku pancakes. Works was good, but the pancakes were sublime, absolutely hit the spot! Coffee wasn't amazing, not a huge fan of Allpress these days but they can do the job in a pinch. I'll definitely be back for more Food, thanks team :)

What a beautiful location of a cafe near lake taupo 🤩 We had brunch in the cafe and we loved the food and atmosphere. The day we stopped for brunch that day was so busy. I would love to come back again to the cafe to try other dishes they have.

Came in on father's day for breakfast with my family. It was very busy but we still got a table easy. My wife and I both ordered bacon eggs bene and it looked amazing and tasted even better. My kids both ordered the pancakes and loved them also. Even though it was super busy we received our food very quickly with only a short wait. Would definitely stop in here again. Customer service was excellent from the Maori lady who found us a table and seated us to the girls behind the counter and the girl who served our table. Great work guys. All the cabinet food also looked amazing.

Came in for a coffee, settled on an espresso martini. Sooooo good! Super cute, spacious cafe , all the items in the display looked amazing. Highly recommend this spot when you're in Taupō

This pie was so good and so crispy. I walked in there and the place was packed... I opted to order to go and just ordered from the bakery display case. It came out pretty slowly cause I asked to heat it. That's said, I ate it in my campervan and omg it was so good! Totally recommend. So flakey and warm. Yum

It's right at the Taupō lake bank. Gorgeous views of the sunset. I got a fresh juice and my husband got a mocha. We both loved our respective drinks. The food looked amazing too. Their service took some time. However, my juice was freshly made, nothing from a bottle. I loved it.

Delicious food! Had the cake griddle for breakfast. Tried other foods my family got, and all were delicious. It was busy in the morning, rough time finding a sit for 5, and we had to move the plates to sit. Delicious food doe!!

Food was as expected - fluffy pancakes with flavorful lemon curd. French toast was light and fluffy as well. Would recommend for a quick bite.

Fresh salads and items to go. Baked goods and full breakfast to order menu. Gaze at the view over the lake at Mt. Tongiriro. My eggs benedict had a beautifully poached egg with sauce. All the baked goods look good but tasted too much of a "trail mix" healthiness to it. I had a carrot cake and almond croissant. It is what I would imagine vegan desserts to taste like. Pleasant stop but on the pricey side when starting the day.

This morning we had been about to go back to the Lake House for the breakfast special that had advertised. But upon closer look, there just wasn't anything that stood out. Not willing to take the risk to have to wait again a long time before being served, we decided to try our luck in Café Baku instead. What a difference that made. Great coffee shop with wonderful indoor and outdoor seating with views of Lake Taupo. The only drawback I would say is the parking lot in front of the terrace which can obstruct the view a bit. Service was super friendly, quick, and attentive. We both ordered the feta, spinach, mushroom omelette which came with a roasted tomato and 2 pieces of buttered chiabatta bread. (That's definitely 100% better than the wheat or white toast you usually get in the US). The waitress was also kind enough to point out little packages of honey, jam, and peanutbutter (free). The omelette was clearly made of fresh ingredients. A lovely presentation and an altogether delectable breakfast.

Busy cafe with it's awesome location and great space inside and out. We were down for a corporate event so were keen on some good local kai before hitting the road. Great staff. Ok coffee. Food was good. A bit pricey for what we got BUT they have such wide and great selection of menu, cabinet and snack food that there is bound to something for everyone. I wouldn't come back as there are other options but we enjoyed our time here - good staff make a big difference.

We ate breakfast here one morning after spending the night in Taupo. I was really impressed with this place! At a time when the town seemed to just be waking up, Cafe Baku was a hub of activity. Many people were there, enjoying their breakfast. This place had a good selection of pastries, muffins and other things to eat. They also had tea, coffee and some juices. Of all the places we went for breakfast on our trip, this probably had the most extensive menu. The chocolate chip banana bread, muffin and cheese scone we got were all good. I would definitely eat here again.

Excellent coffee We loved the coffee at this understandably popular restaurant! It was good and strong and if you get a regular size flat white, the coffee-milk distribution is just perfect!

Super cute cafe. Lots of breakfast/brunch options including lots of pastries and pre-made sandwiches. You can quickly order at the counter if you're in a hurry or grab a window seat and take in the views of Lake Taupo.

TLDR: Great cafe option right by the lake with tasty breakfast foods and coffee. There are several options for breakfast located right by the lake at different price points. If you're looking for decently priced delicious foods, I would give Cafe Baku a try. With a view directly facing the lake, this is quite the popular spot to grab a bite to eat to go along with some coffee. There are options for indoor and outdoor seating, but both can fill up during peak hours, especially if it's nice outside. If you're driving here, there is a small lot right outside. Otherwise, there are spots located throughout the entire plaza. At most, you should be only walking a couple of blocks after parking. There's many breakfast options available, some of which are visible in the display counter, others are made to order. If you enjoy the popular eggs in purgatory dish, I highly recommend the pomodoro egg bake. It's served in a mini cast iron pan and is a great take on that classic dish. Furthermore, their coffee is excellent. I particular enjoyed getting a hazelnut latte from here every morning. They do it so well here and it comes out delicious every time. Overall, this is a very solid place for food and coffee.

Surprised that this busy spot had not received any reviews yet! We had a great breakfast here: the pastries were so delicious that I went back after paying our check to buy some for the road. The kids loved their egg dish and smoothies.

We were walking to town from our Airbnb and stoped at this cafe for a snack and a coffee. My husband got the chick pea salad and It was THE BEST salad I may have ever tasted. The flavors were great and perfectly balanced. I got an americano which was great, and my husband got a long-shot with milk. We are going back tomorrow before we head out for more.

Stopped in here today just to look at the menu and left with two bags of goodies, cakes, muffins and savory voulevants. All packaged with love so the cake toppings didn't get smooshed! Their selection from the cabinet and the menu are amazing and reasonably priced. We will be calling again!!!

It's a great cafe Staff are efficient friendly the food is consistently good and so is the service I wish people would use the second counter to avoid waiting I guess we are like sheep and follow the que The bran muffins are divine as is the cheese ham toastie Decor great but those useless hand dryers in the bathrooms grrrrr but that's the only minor gripe

asked for almond milk TWICE in my iced coffee, drank all of it and turns out it was normal milk. great for a lactose intolerant person. thanks baku, well done.
