Looking past the considerable climb of steps to get to this place, I think a visit to this Cafe is very much worth if you are looking for quality Argentinian and South American food. We visited as a group of three on a Wednesday night and just got the last table indoors (booking probably advised). Everything about our experience here was amazing including service, atmosphere and most crucially food. Stand out for was the Argentinian flank steak with a more then generous servings of high-quality steak with lovely sides. Highly recommend this restaurant.

The location and ambiance of this restaurant are lovely, but the overall experience was disappointing. The fish dish I ordered did not taste fresh, which was surprising and quite off-putting. For a place that seems to pride itself on presentation, the quality of the main ingredient really missed the mark. Bread wasn’t provided — not even as an option — which felt unusual and a bit stingy. Also, no water was offered at any point during the meal, not even tap water, which reflects poorly on the service and hospitality. A pretty setting can’t make up for a lackluster meal and inattentive service. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend this spot based on my visit.

None of us enjoyed our steak here. We all got medium rare and every single steak was cooked differently. The cut was very fatty and chewy

Came across this little gem whilst walking about. The staff are lovely and tell you cash only before you take your seat. I wanted steak, so went for the 1/2 steak. I also had a starter so when my main arrived, I was astonished at the size of the steak. Let's just say I ate as much as I could and didn't touch the potato chips☺️. Do make time to eat here, it gets busy after 8pm, so pre-book or come early. Third photo is the green bean tempura starter on my second visit, I will share photo of the flank steak shortly.

We did not have reservations, which you must have (it is always full!). But we got there about 6:30pm. They were able to accommodate us until 8:30pm. Everything we ordered was amazing, and large-so come with an empty stomach. The empanadas were absolutely delicious and I wanted more, but also wanted to try something different. My husband ordered the streak, I ordered the vegan choice! Oh my! Great choices!!

From the moment we walked in, the 50 years of history created a lovely ambiance. The flank steak was simply divine, a juicy and savory masterpiece. Don't even get me started on the empanadas – a perfect little pocket of Argentine goodness. Every bite was a treat, and the service, while a little slow for our American standards, was warm and helpful. This restaurant is a true testament to enduring quality and delicious food.

Google
Pros- cute atmosphere, apps were tasty. I had the empanadas, and the goat cheese fritters were very good. The Pear salad shouldn't be called a salad and it has as very heavy bleu cheese cream sauce. That was a miss, it overwhelmed all the other flavors. Cons- you have to trek up several stairs to get to it. Biggest con is that its CASH ONLY which they don't tell you until you're ready to order, then give you attitude about it. Food was good but be prepared to wait for service, they arent on their game when it comes to customer service. I wanted more and left unimpressed

We were recommended by Rick Steeves book to eat here. We are glad we did. The outdoor patio on the stairs was an incredible atmosphere. We could see the Castelo de S. Jorge from our seats as the sun set. It doesn't get any better than this. I had the Argentinian Sirloin. My wife had a pasta entree and Vinho Verde wine. A super evening to remember.

Yelp

Yelp
When I tell you it took us 3 trips and numerous credit cards to come here with cash, I mean that literally. So when we finally did get the cash, it was mad late and we were hungry. So you can only imagine how high our expectations were at this point. We were seated immediately at a candlelit table of our choice. To start, we ordered the ceviche--the fish was okay but the mango added such a lovely taste to it. For my main course, I had the steak, medium rare. It was delicious and exactly what I needed. It came with potato crisps which were extremely tasty. My partner got the cod and it was absolutely amazing as well. Definitely recommend. Highly recommend for a much needed steak in Lisbon

Yelp
Great atmosphere, food and service- oh ya also great rose sangria! The interior decor seems like if you closed your eyes you could go many years back in time. Shared a green omelette- filled with veggies, along with a ham and Brie sandwich- both quite good. Server was helpful and led me to a fruit filled liter of some of the best sangria ever ! Cash only.

Yelp
Located on a stair path right near to the Rossio area, the entrance is sort of blink and miss, but the café is cozy and welcoming. You come here for the steak, which they apparently fly in each week from Argentina. I ordered the strip loin half cut, which on a completely personal note, I regretted because I was so hungry and the half cut isn't large. In hindsight, I should have ordered the whole cut for a few Euro more. That said, it was delicious, but keep in mind that it will be a bit more rare than you might be used to. I love my beef on the rare side, so it wasn't a problem. The low point were the potatoes. They were thin cut and more like bagged potato chips (crisps), but soft and fresh as they make them in house. For a steak dinner, the potato should be heartier, and if you're serving fries/chips they should be a nice thick cut. That said, the staff were great. The place is really busy. I didn't have a reservation and was seated immediately, but I'm sure reservations are recommended for groups. For dessert, I ordered the chocolate cake with dulce de leche, which was so lush. This is a great restaurant for a night when you want meat and carbs. They do have a lot of vegetarian options too. It was a perfect spot and it did not disappoint.

Yelp
Still very good!! I have going there for years. I enjoy the food, which is the main reason one should go to a restaurant, but I must confess that this one feels specially cosy to me. I don't know if it is the ambience, the decor or the music, but I feel comfortable. The food is good, although a little bit expensive, but the portions are quite big and one can normally share a dish. I would change the starters just because I don't find them appealing (price and options). Drinks are a little bit expensive, but for example the lemonade is huge and does make for in size. You can order wine by the glass which allows you to try several, should you wish. Service is nice and multiple languages seem to be spoken. I strongly recommend it. The 5th star would be for a better price.

Yelp
Great tapas and spectacular view! So many good varieties of tapas; enough to make the whole table happy. The view was wonderful and service was good. Great stop on the way up the hill!

Yelp
A tiny place at the end of the road, next to a flight of stairs. The place is full of character, and even though they were fully booked, they were able to squeeze me in as long as I only took an hour! I'd strongly suggest booking in advance. The Argentian steak was awesome - and the single best reason to visit this restaurant. I think I recall reading on the menu that they fly it in vacuum packed from Argentina. Simply grilled, it was full of flavor, and served on a bed of onions in a red wine sauce. I couldn't say the same for the potatoes though. They were cut as thin as crisps and somewhat tasteless. I'd still return for the steak though. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Nice looking restaurant. Cozy. Can't say much about the food. Rocket w cheese good. Green beans tempura so-so. Bad news on the steak. It was the toughest I was ever served. Try something else.

Yelp
Great little Gastro Pub, retro Argentinian restaurant. We had a recommendation from a local to try this place on the Rua Do Duque. It is down the street from the corner restaurant, Cafe Buenos Aires, their sister restaurant. I like this location much more, it is quieter less crowded and the ambiance is great. You expect Eva Peron to walk in any second. We had a corner table in the back as there were five of us. The wait staff couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. We enjoyed the port sautéed mushrooms in a parmason crisp basket, the tempora green beans with garlic mayo, and the empanadas as starters. The martini's were also great. The strip loin 1/2 steak rare was outstanding. Flavorful and tender. Be aware, portions are very large so the whole steak is enough for two, the sea bass on a bed of potatoes and greens was cooked perfectly as was the prawns. Desert was the chocolate cake, with ice cream, and the strawberries with meringue and cream. We will definitely be back. Great experience!

Yelp
Lots of character and a nice wait staff, but steak was only mediocre. Guess if you have a reservation, suggest getting the flank steak. It was MUCH more tender than strip steak. Overall, not a bad place, but not great either.

Hannes K.

Yelp
It is a nice one. Good meat. friendly straff. But be prepared that the Steak is one Level more rare than you ordered. Still it is worth it.
