My husband and I LOVED this place, we went back twice on the same day. Great quality coffee using the local beans. The hot coffee taste better than iced. It’s so creamy and rich. Great flavor and fantastic atmosphere. The colors of the pillows match the chairs. We can tell that they actually care about the business, it’s not a sloppy cheap decor. The back garden area is also beautiful!!

Google
☕ The coffee is excellent — 10/10! The atmosphere inside the café is nice. However, if you don’t like crowded places, I wouldn’t recommend it. It gets really noisy with people constantly walking around, which kind of ruins the vibe. The food takes a long time to prepare — I waited 30 minutes. So, if you’re thinking of grabbing a quick brunch in 20 minutes and heading out, this isn’t the place. But if you have an hour to spare, it’s actually a pretty good spot.

Beautiful coffee shop, delicious pastry and friendly staff. The place itself is cozy and nice, makes you feel very comfortable and welcome. The staff was friendly and we really enjoyed our pastry’s.

We stopped by for a quick bite and ended up trying their traditional breakfast plate upon recommendation — it was surprisingly good! Definitely worth trying if you're in the area.

Google
The coffee was delicious, and the shop was so cute. I especially appreciated the beautiful tile wall out back! My friends and I played a card game here for over and hour and loved it. Minus one star because we heard the same song at least 5 times 🤭

Google
Came here with my wife during our visit to Viejo San Juan and first thing we noticed is that it is POPULAR!! The place was so over crowded that not only were all the seats taken but there were people standing filling the entire space. We did eventually get a seat with some luck and patience but just in case this is the norm make sure you prepare for the chance that you have to take the food to go. The food was delicious and coffee was good if not a little pricey but it is in a very tourist trap location so it's expected.

Google
Café Cuatro Sombras has a cute aesthetic on the inside. I ordered an iced oat milk matcha latte with vanilla syrup which was delicious. We sat inside to relax and recharge from our morning walking adventures in Old San Juan. I also bought a bag of their local coffee as a gift for someone. Only positive reports from them!

Google
A great place for breakfast in Old San Juan. Delicious coffee ☕️ and healthy options. I had them hold the bread to make my lox gluten free.

Yelp
Would have given 5 stars if the dude taking our order on Sunday would have been nice. He had no patience for us the customers or his coworker. Seemed like he was having a really bad day maybe? The place was clean and nice, the coffee was meh since my hot coffee was dumped over ice after I corrected them that it was iced. The sandwiches were good too.

Yelp
This is one of the very pretty coffee shops on the old San Juan St. if you are around this place do not forget to go grab a coffee from this place have a bite of some local pastries or some snack items that you would find in the store, this is a gem of a place is created with a lot of love and the people inside are amazing. Happy and always running around trying to help a customers. This is one of the best coffees I've had around Puerto Rico. They source the coffee locally and more from the African and Caribbean areas it has its own taste and we also bought a bag of coffee beans to go with us to the mainland and go try this place for sure. It has a great ambience. It's good for sitting inside, but it's great to take a coffee and walk outside too

Yelp
Spot is totally cute and has great vibes. Food: didn't try any good but I did order a matcha latte with oatmilk and it was BEYOND TOO SWEET. Took one sip and couldn't drink any more. Service: was quick and friendly If I every make it back to Puerto Rico I'll make sure to try this spot again and order a less sweetened drink.

Yelp
Cafe Cuatros Sombras was in my Yelp bookmarks for coffee in San Juan. The shop was very cool. High ceilings. Unique art. Dimly lit. The roaster is visible. I ordered a black cold brew. If I had to guess, I think it was actually an Iced Americano because the coffee was very lightly colored on top where the ice was and darker near the bottom. I drink a lot of iced coffee and cold brew. That is not a common occurrence. It was reasonably good though. 4 Stars based partially on the cool atmosphere. I'd have more questions about that coffee otherwise. LOL
google avatar

Yelp
Came here a few times during my stay in San Juan. The first time I had the ham & cheese croissant with the guava butter with the cold brew - thought both were very good. However, I came here again right before flying out to grab brunch and thought the service was slow and a bit rude. I waited a long time for my food to come out, and when I went to ask about the status of my food, they blamed me for not hearing my name earlier. I paid $8 for the fruit bowls, but it was definitely not fresh, with a moldy blackberry on the inside. I had bad stomachache after having brunch here.

Yelp
Coffee was pretty good. My husband roasts his own at home and this was the only coffee closer in quality to what he drinks at home. Price was a bit outrageous specially for people living in the island but based on location I'd assume they're catering to tourists.

Yelp
Our morning coffee adventure today landed us at Cafe Cuatro Sambras... so glad it did, we had fun there! Super friendly staff, the manager personally followed us to make sure we were happy with the coffee and pastries! Everything was very good! They roast and going their coffee onsite! Nice space, very comfy couches with pillows... worth the visit! Recommend Cafe Cuatro Sambras!
google avatar

Yelp
Food is so good. I love the croissant sandwich and their specia coffee. However, service is slow since it's holiday. Definitely will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Quaint little place in Old San Juan known to have some of the best coffee in Puerto Rico which I can attest to. Their beans are pricey though!
google avatar

Mac D.

Yelp
I just have to have this coffee within 24hrs of landing in PR and being in the old city. The service is always great and the ambiance is usually calm (except when the ships are in port and the place is packed). Come thru and enjoy the pastries and the great coffee.
google avatar

Yelp
Fast and easy! Plenty of options and very cute and calming place. Wish we could have stopped for food but it's o ly the first stop of the day! Dog friendly and kid friendly.

Yelp
Ever since this place opened up in old San Juan, and I return every year back to Puerto Rico for business or family. I make it a point to drop in for some cafecito. The staff are so amazing, the people, the environment, and also the delicious latte borinqueña. I look forward to go back in February.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little café that's definitely very tourist friendly. The lines/wait for coffee in the morning can be long or busy. They have a cute outdoor space / patio towards the back if you want to hang out. I didn't get to try their coffee but did try their yauco sandwich. I was curious about the sweet plantain mayo but personally didn't taste it very strongly. It was a solid/decent sandwich (I took it to go for the airport, so maybe it's better fresh) but nothing to write home about or go out of your way for.
google avatar

Vanessa C.

Yelp
2 cappuccinos and 1 latte. 2 plantain/ground meat pastries. Lofi-beats coffee vibes. Cool spot and the prices are pretty affordable. Not blown away by our drinks (we all thought our coffees were lacking in the coffee flavor we were looking for) but they have a simple menu with very few options of customization. I bought some 8oz beans when I first checked out but ultimately returned it because I couldn't justify paying $25 for beans. (I think we got the tourist price because at firstt the register said $10 and our barista changed it to $25) Our pastelillito carne (plantain/beef pastry) was like a meat toaster strudel with small chunks of coarse salt to add a flavor surprise. Nice snack.

Yelp
We visited Café Cuatro Sombras in Puerto Rico for breakfast, and while the place has a nice and well-decorated atmosphere, our experience wasn't entirely satisfactory. From the start, the service left something to be desired. The cashier wasn't very friendly when taking our order, which affected the overall experience. As for the food, considering the price we paid, we expected a bit more in terms of quality and flavor. In summary, Café Cuatro Sombras has a cozy ambiance, but both the service and the quality of the food could improve to match the price.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop that was super busy when we arrived. My friend got the egg roast with avocado and I got the croissant sandwich and cappuccino to go. My sandwich was pretty good. Croissant was nice and buttery. Inside was a guava spread + butter. Delicious. My cappuccino was also pretty good as well :) We were in a rush so this was a great spot to grab food and go! Service was very friendly too.
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
The best coffee spot in Old San Juan. They have lots of food and drink options, which are elevated, but what really sets them apart are the guava quesitos! Guava everything is essential while visiting Puerto Rico, and these are the best guava pastries you are going to find. Such a gem. The coffee hits the spot, too, and another hidden gem - they have a lovely enclosed patio in back adorned with colorful tiles. It's a lovely oasis.

Yelp
The bread is so fresh and tasty. Conveniently located by the fort in old San Juan. Service was fast. The coffee was alright tho.
google avatar

Jim G.

Yelp
Went there twice for a light breakfast. Wonderful coffee and pastries with a few traditional items that were good. The guava oatmeal was unique and not to be missed.
google avatar

Abby C.

Yelp
Delicious coffee and croissant sandwiches! You absolutely must get the sandwich with Guava butter . They usually come with ham but accommodated me and made it without. The coffee is very smooth and sweet. You can also buy bags of the coffee.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
We came here for breakfast and it was very yummy! We had a large group and they were accommodating! I ordered avocado and eggs and the avocado was super fresh!! I also ordered a chai tea latte which was to die for!!!
google avatar

Marla B.

Yelp
The food was incredible. We had the croissant with jam and guava. Fantastic. The staff was super kind and helpful. They do not take cash, but they do take APPLE PAY and other cc. It was so great to drink good coffee and break bread with friends!!!

Yelp
Great coffee shop, but felt like I took a baseball bat to the liver when my 12oz coldbrew was rung up for $7.44 ahaahahaha. That's more than I've ever paid even in NYC. Coffee was bomb though I can't even hold, big bro even said it was the best latte he has had in Puerto Rico. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__
google avatar

Sharika M.

Yelp
Definitely a tourist trap. We ordered a hot latte and an iced latte, it took 35 minutes to come out. There are some fresh baked food which we didn't end up getting. The indoors has a darker ambiance and then there's seating in the back with live plants and a mural wall. The drinks itself were really good, the beans are grinded fresh. It's a little pricey at $8 a drink.
google avatar

Yelp
This café was the first stop in our food tour. We waited at the front until our tour guide arrived in this busy establishment that had a great aroma of coffee. The place had a strong cafe vibe with pride about their brand. Once our tour guide arrived he led us towards the back through some doors in a private room where we had an amazing coffee with ham and cheese on a croissant. It was delicious and reminded me how much I enjoyed ham and cheese.

Yelp
I had the worst cappuccino I've ever had. I got a 12 oz. With 2 shots. It was very weak and full of milk like a watered down latte. Cappuccino should be just foam with espresso. I couldn't even taste the coffee. I ended up throwing it away cuz it was so bad. I've been drinking espresso for over 30 years and my brother-in-law is Roman Italian so I know how a cappuccino is made. I get better cappuccino at Starbucks and they burn their beans. I'll stick to my nespresso, Peets, and Blue Bottle coffee.

Yelp
The food was all good. The coffee was above average and made well (though the lid on my iced latte didn't quite fit so it leaked a bit, also would love to see more environmentally friendly packaging in the area), service was nice enough. So where did they lose the star? Pricing. I'm not above spending a little more for quality food and service but the prices here don't seem to align. It's a walk up coffee shop where you find your own seating and walk up and order your own food. The portions are not anything extravagant and the quality isn't something out of this world (again it was all good and above average), but the prices don't seem to be right. $10 for a small Greek yogurt bowl is a bit high imo. I spent $27 (with a $2 tip, and lets say $4 in customizations for my latte- extra shot and almond milk) on a basic yogurt bowl (pretty much a Greek yogurt bowl with some fruit sprinkled on top and honey or some other sweetener), a small guava quesito, and an iced latte. With the tip aside, averaging about $7/ item here seems a bit high.

Yelp
The coffee was delicious and eggs and toast was a perfect breakfast too. The toast was SO good. Service was wonderful and servers were friendly. Ambience inside and out in the little courtyard was cute and relaxing. What an awesome place! Wish I lived in PR, I'd definitely be a regular here.
google avatar

Mat M.

Yelp
Amazing cafe. The baristas were friendly and welcoming and made my latte perfectly. The avocado toast was so good, the toast was on some bread that was still a little soft, not too crunchy, very enjoyable. Relaxing in the cafe was calming. It was quiet but there was a pleasant flow of locals coming in and out. The courtyard is beautiful and let in a nice amount of sunlight. Cuatro is a must for coffee lovers. I can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Finally a place that had good coffee. Every place in Puerto Rico says they have good coffee when many places were not good for my taste buds. But this cute coffee shop had the best coffee in the area. They roast their own beans and it lived up to the hype of Puerto Rican coffee. Service was really slow which was the only con. About 20 minutes to get 3 coffees. Good thing it was pouring so we were not in a rush.
google avatar

Phylicia H.

Yelp
Amazing coffee and great/professional service. Stunning inside with indoor seating and a private courtyard. I wish I could work from a cafe like this. I loved the decor. The pastries looked incredible and many people kept ordering the frittata. My cafe con leche was delicious. I highly recommend this place for coffee!
google avatar

Yelp
Last breakfast in Old San Juan and it didn't disappoint! The coffee was delicious and our fruit waffles were thick and sweet. Very good and fast service. Cute café and would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Camille P.

Yelp
DELICIOUS! The coffee, The sandwiches, the cakes all amazing! This was the perfect pick me up while touring old San Juan. The brandy cake was perfection and the service was excellent! Wish we were closer to go back! Definitely a must try when in San Juan.
google avatar

Trang D.

Yelp
Stopped in around 1130am and it was steady busy. Seated outside on patio and had a vanilla cappuccino. It was flavorful but not as strong as anticipated. The croissant was filled with ham and it was tasty sweet and savory.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
What made this ham and cheese sandwich was the gauva butter. Paired with a little espresso made from Puerto Rician grown coffee... so good!
google avatar

Gilberto M.

Yelp
Great Coffee and really nice spot to sit and people watch. I don't have any food but it look pleasant. A little loud but you forget of the noise after your cup of coffee.
google avatar

Laurie L.

Yelp
Café Cuatro Sombras was part of the walking food tour I took in Old San Juan. It was so GOOD! So good, in fact, that I had to go back! The coffee is amazing - 100% Puerto Rican grown - not just packaged. Since I have gotten home I can't drink my normal everyday coffee anymore. It tastes like water! The second reason to go back was the sandwich. Grill pressed croissant, guava butter, ham, cheese. Damn. So good. It's a busy place, but there is extra seating in a little courtyard.
google avatar

Jennifer C. L.

Yelp
This place had the perfect trifecta of deliciously handcrafted locally farmed gourmet coffee from Puerto Rico, the close proximity to the 500th year celebration of the city of San Juan in Old San Juan, and the air conditioning we seeked in between our exploration of the festival. The staff were uber friendly and the decor so cute and cozy for the people passing through this place. This place was a great spot when we were vacationing in Puerto Rico this last week.
google avatar

Meo O.

Yelp
The decor/ambiance, lattes, food awesome. Even had a cozy courtyard. Recommend this cafe!!
google avatar

Rozet S.

Yelp
Stopped here for an iced mocha to go before exploring Old San Juan. It's in a great spot, in the heart of the city. Iced mocha was great and service was quick and easy! A perfect spot to sit and relax if you're looking to get work done as well, there's a lot of space.
google avatar

Winnie C.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick morning bite and coffee. Ordered their hummus and pesto sandwich which was light but didn't lack flavors. Iced coffee was standard. Service was quick. Liked their high ceilings.
google avatar

Susan F.

Yelp
So delicious came here based on amazing a Yelp reviews and it did not disappoint. We got vanilla lattes and a coconut guava cookie. The lattes were solid and delicious! Move over Girl Scouts the coconut guava cookie was the best cookie I have ever had.
google avatar

Jasmin H.

Yelp
Originally found Cuatro Sombras when I was searching for coffee cupping tours, unfortunately theirs seems to now be part of a larger food tour so I was unable to participate. The open toast was a smaller portion than expected and an average avocado toast. The coquito latte was very smooth and had the perfect blend of coffee and coconut, I would definitely go back for another! The seating areas were also very nice, there was both indoor and outdoor seating and the outdoor section gave a small view into their coffee lab.
google avatar

Caroline W.

Yelp
Super cute coffee shop. Their coffee beans are locally sourced and the coffee tastes rich and delicious. They have many vegetarian options for food. Pastries looks delicious but was too full to try. They also offer kombucha. There is indoor and outside seating.
google avatar

Sydney G.

Yelp
Came here because Yelp said they had a lot of vegan options, and since I was traveling with my cousin who is vegan, we put this on our list right away. When we walked in, it was a bit crowded, so we were excited in thinking we'd picked a great spot. The coffee was delicious -- I had an iced vanilla latte with regular milk, while my cousin did the same with soy. There's just something about getting local espresso from a local coffee shop that just tastes so much better. The food, however, left much to be desired. I got a panini viejo san juan (Turkey, tomato, lettuce and recao & Cilantro mayo on multigrain bread.) which was fine. The sandwich itself was very dry, and despite being so simple took a really long time to come out. Despite the reviews, there weren't a lot of vegan food options. My cousin ended up getting the Hummus & Roasted red pepper sandwich (Housemade hummus with tomato, red onions, cucumbers and pesto on toasted multigrain bread) but without the pesto. It also was fine. Nothing special. In general, I'd say 4 stars for the coffee, 3 stars for food and service.
google avatar

Kevin Y.

Yelp
Came here as a stop on a food tour. They serve Puerto Rican coffee which is mostly medium roast or lighter. We enjoyed the flavor. If you are American like us you will need to get used to the smaller serving sizes (which is a good thing!) They also served a wonderful croissant sandwich with guava butter as part of the tasting which was excellent.
google avatar

Efrain Q.

Yelp
I'm I lover coffee, and this is a good place to start you day the staff is so friendly and the service is great nice place to enjoy your coffee I tried latte and it was really good
google avatar

Marion L.

Yelp
Initially, I saw the price for a 16 oz coffee and I thought I was back home (Seattle) but don't let this scare you away like it almost did with us. The coffee is phenomenal, the service is phenomenal, the food (worth the wait) is also phenomenal. I have zero cons about this place. The place itself is cute, clean, great location, good variety of pastries, friendly staff. Get there before 10 AM or you'll have to stand in line for a while.
google avatar

Preeti R.

Yelp
We reached 30 mins before they closed for some evening coffee and found the staff to be rather unwelcoming, likely because they were wrapping up for the day? We got no smile or greeting. They had a special holiday menu going during Christmas and the barista recommended the coquito, a drink native to Puerto Rico and mentioned that they put their own spin on it and make it with coffee. I was excited to try it but didn't realize it would be served pre sweetened, it was too sweet for my liking and had strong caramel flavors. The regular cappuccino was good, so maybe stick with the safe option. Drinks were served in to go cups even though we wanted to enjoy them in their courtyard.
