On the Grid : The Ceuvel

"This former shipyard is now an on-land harbor, giving shelter to old houseboats. Placed around a wooden walkway, each boat hosts workspace for creative and social enterprises. The Ceuvel is all about sustainability and the cafe's menu is a dream for vegetarians." - Mr. Koreander

It's a vegetarian restaurant( I'm not a vegetarian) prices are reasonable, portions are good size, and the dishes were interesting. I wish there was more flavor. Bitterbalens were gooey Don't expect a quick service, but everyone was nice and we got a table in a few minutes on Friday evening. Reservation are recommended

MY NEW FAVORITE SPOT IN AMSTERDAM! I felt like Amsterdam center is full of touristic spots or super fancy restaurants. This was perfect - the location : secluded, hidden, beautiful atmosphere. Went for drinks out in the sun but also to dinner one evening and the food was super well thought out and so tasty. Will definately come back next time i’m in town ❤️‍🔥

Arriving into my hotel at Amsterdam Noord on a Sunday evening, I went walking in search for something relaxed for food. Being summer, I didn’t realise how late it was. I arrived at Cafe de Ceuvel at around 9.20pm but they allowed me to get an order in. A vegetarian restaurant using locally sourced produce, the surroundings are hippie chic, but it works and feels comfortable and relaxing. What you need after a long Eurostar journey. The servers were impeccable, fun, and lively. I ordered the Lemon Pearl Barley Risotto, with green asparagus, yellow zucchini, with crispy oatmeal and a birch vinaigrette. The dish was so light and refreshing. The citrus was just the right level to renew my palette and went amazingly well with the glass of Zeebonk beer. I followed this up with a main course of Nettle Saag Paneer, with raita, zarda millet, and naan bread. Creamy and light, but filling and wholesome. What a dish to help me doze off to the land of Nod when I returned to my hotel. This place is perfect for a summers afternoon lunch! I plan to return.

Google
Delicious food in a cool and relaxed atmosphere! Food is really great, good selection of drinks and the staff is very kind and welcoming. The outside area is large as well, surely a great spot in summer. You can also come and work from here until 18.00, there plenty of outlets at every table. Great place!

Google
Funky cool spot, lots of space for the kids to explore (fairly) safely. We had a few plates for lunch and everything was delicious - especially the beans with labneh, and cabbage salad was great with bites of salty lentils and capers. Appreciated all the signage around explaining the collective and how they’re running the spaces - really interesting and informative. All outside tables were full but it was very relaxed on a sunny weekend midday, which I loved.

Google
Great place for food and drink on the water, away from the touristy central parts of Amsterdam. Friendly service and good food, at a decent price! Most restaurants and bars in Amsterdam felt overpriced (coming from a Londoner), but Café de Ceuvel felt great value for money, as well as having a nice atmosphere inside, with real log fire, tiered areas, views out onto the river.

Google
Great place, nice view on the water when the weather is nice. Full of greenery around, bees, trees, service is good and interesting dishes, all vegan. Drinks are good and average price but the food good but very expensive and small plates that leave you still hungry. Please give more food, especially the mains and desserts were super small but tasty. I took the Eritrean dish . See picture

Google
A fantastic place to hang out and enjoy drinks on a perfect sunny day, located right on the water. Despite its large open area, it’s very popular in good weather, so finding a seat might require some creativity.

Yelp
Every time I look over from my hotel room. I see this spot,, people sitting around, drinking, eating, having a good time. Dubbed by my co-workers as the hippie bar, I've always wanted to come check this spot out. So it seems that the building that houses the bar itself is a repurposed house boat. Instead of just being stowed away at a house boat cemetery, it began it's new life here as De Ceuvel bar. I had a few blondes and my friend had a few rosés as well. Ordered some apps for nibbles and talked away. All I could say is that this spot is definitely super chill. People are here to just sit down, relax, have a drink and be happy with awesome people. It Definitely has that feel good atmosphere. I would definitely come back and chill here again. Thank you so much for reading my review. I hope this helps with your decision making experience. Enjoy your awesome yelptastic day!

Yelp
Great vibe. Great food. Definitely stop by. This restaurant is right behind the hotel I often stay at and it took me years before finally coming in. Sad I waited so long.

Yelp
Took my date here and it was a fantastic hipster sort of place with delicious food. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Outstanding atmosphere! Cool as cool can be. Excellwnt beer selection and tasty bites. Heavily vegetarian-focused. I would return. Loved it.

Yelp
Came here for a light dinner while visiting De Pijp. They have a nice outdoor seating area that lets you soak in the bustling social scene that the area is known for. The service is leisurely which I have come to appreciate as standard in Europe (especially compared to the US). They have a good food and drink menu and the prices are affordable. We had the pumpkin ravioli which had pumpkin in the sauce as well. The sauce was cream-based and very tasty; portion size was great. We also got some bread with some dipping sauce. Not only was the portion ample, but the bread was warm and delicious. The most notable thing about De Ceuvel was the presentation of the food. It exceed our expectations style wise and that made our meal that much more enjoyable.

Yelp
This place was absolute magic. The space was one part large breezy loft, three parts gorgeous houseboats. Lots of huge windows and outdoor seating and beautiful places to perch and watch the sunset. The food was really delicious, too. So wonderful to spend time in such a delightful, unique place.

Yelp
Unassuming restaurant, cafe, event center located right by our Airbnb Apt in the Noord area of Amsterdam. Wished we had gone there a few more times before our departure. They have a full bar and snacks are available. Staff was very friendly and attentive.

Yelp
This place was quite the surprise when I finally found it, after cycling around in the area. It's a small world on its own, that you can't easily spot. But once you enter the wooden and vintage world of De Ceuvel, it will make you a happy man or woman! What used to be an old and small dockyard has now been transformed into a place where you can enjoy some peace of mind and eat delicious vegan food. And the cool thing is - besides the fact that you can chill at the water - that they organize yoga sessions and performance acts in the small wooden boat houses that lie on the shore. Overall De Ceuvel reminded me a bit of the 'Holzmarkt' in Berlin, a place that I also liked very much. I'm really starting to enjoy discovering the magic of the North side. Note. Although the vegan food that De Ceuvel serves is delicious, the menu is a bit limited. Since I am not a vegan in general, I found it difficult to order something I liked. So in the end I finished the meal in a nearby Thai place... But that's another story and review.

Yelp
Featuring this time in "the creative temporary conversion of idle spaces": De Ceuvel. It's like a never-ending open air festival. Maybe not infinite but at least it won't end tomorrow nor in a week or a year. Peace, freedom and happiness forever! For the next 10 years. It's ecological. It's alternative. The clever project winners turned the former shipyard into a playground for grown-ups. A place to relax, meet new people, have a chat and enjoy the campfire romance. Also dogs are welcome and happy to make new furry and non-furry friends. And it's not even that far away as you might think. 5-10 minutes cycling from the Buiksloterdijk ferry dock and you're already there. If you are in a holiday mood but don't feel like organic food then stop by Il Pecorino on the way to get a proper Italian dinner.

Yelp
We went to a music experience at this venue. The bar and restaurant were a great place. It is an sold shipyard turned into a sustainable community right on the channels. It is a great local for a out door get away from the hassle of Amsterdam central. We walked from the ferry which is free. It would ride a bike next time. It is about a mile and a half.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite cafe in Amsterdam. Friendly staff and overall a beautiful and sustainable concept for a cafe.

Yelp
This place is great and a hidden gem in The Noord district. Americans familiar with the area call it the "hippie bar" because of it's eclectic crowd and menu. The whole place is designed and built on old materials and it has an warm feel. On a sunny day come here to sit in open air and enjoy the view of the water. The menu is full of vegan cuisine and they serve a good amount of tap and bottled beer, wine, etc. This place is good for families too.

Yelp
Discovered this place boating around Amsterdam with a local friend - and I have to say it was amazing. I think it's an old shipyard or something like that, with everything seemingly built out of reclaimed wood. Organic and alternative with a festival-y vibe going and happy folks everywhere. Didn't try the food - but I can vouch for the beers. And the location. And the people. Just go here, you won't regret it. Too bad it's a bit out of the way - but if you have a boat or a bike, that makes it easier.

Yelp
This place is very cool and unique. A really hip crowd. Us Americans call it the "hippy bar". Lots of places to sit with a view of houseboats and the canal. I really enjoyed hanging out here.

Yelp
I don't know how to categorize this spot - you have to go check it out a few times to get the hang of it. One thing is for sure, though, that you will have a great time. Someone rightly said that De Ceuvel is an everlasting open air festival. There is a lot of activity here including food, live music, arts and crafts. There are recycled boats and containers that serve as venues for various workshops as well. And now they have something called the bio-boat that will take recycling waste to provide energy to a whole new level. Great spot for kids and adults alike, it is a new and hidden gem in the city. I have it on good authority that the experience is always different every time you visit.

Yelp
If you're on the hunt for some vegetarian fare in meat-loving Amsterdam, then Cafe De Ceuvel is your place to be. Or even if you're not that into vegetarian food, but just want to hang out in a really cool repurposed boatyard, have a few beers and stare out over the water, then Cafe De Ceuvel is also the place to be. This urban sanctuary only 10 minutes from the city centre is home to the cafe, an office park made out of houseboats, with plants growing everywhere to cleanse the previously contaminated soil. We tried some super tasty mushroom Bitterballen, indulged in a few local beers and played a fierce game of triominos on the deck, soaking up the relaxed vibes and watching he comings and going of locals on their boats. An afternoon well spent!

Yelp
The place is cute, but it's too cool right now. While it's got the whole veggie - hippie - local - reclaimed vibe down, the people that hang out here are the types that like to pretend they are hippies but are actually hipsters. It's not a very relaxed atmosphere, and everything is just a bit too expensive to be believably hippie. But it's nice in theory. Maybe when it loses its new-hotspot gloss it will come a little closer to its intended effect.

Yelp
I gave them a second chance today. The first time I was there, we had a hard time getting the staff's attention in the first place. Then we waited for our food for more than half an hour (because they forgot about us.. again?), then ordering more drinks took ages, and then, while paying, I got showered by a glass of beer. Today, I went there again, to get some lunch while studying. I just did not get any attention from the staff while sitting at a table for some 15 minutes. A large group having lunch required all their attention, it seemed. I just left after a while; didn't get any questions asked on the way out. Yeah, awesome location. Very hipster, too, if you're into that. But a real shame about the service, there are better places to go to, even in Noord.

Yelp
In North Amsterdam- a place brings back 70's. Very hippy, very organic. Definitely try on a sunny day. If you're up for a vegetarian cuisine and an experience , I'd say you should defo go and check this place.
