Cafe de Olla in Puerto Vallarta is one of our family’s favorites. The live music adds a great vibe, and the welcoming atmosphere makes it a fun spot to relax. The staff is always friendly and makes you feel at home. It’s a place we always look forward to visiting, and has a very special place in our hearts ❤️

Amazing ribs! Served with half a cheesy baked potato. The food came out quickly and the service was super friendly.

This was our favorite breakfast spot while in PV. We should have came back here everyday. We tried the matcha ado and breakfast omelette and man it was too notch. The macahcado was the best we had in the whole trip and we tried 3 others. Word of advice get there early as it gets super busy and there is a long line to get in.

Google
Place overcrowded by tourists and my seat was just next to the bar with a lot of servers walking and rushing all over the place. My server was not the best friendly one but it was ok, I was able to talk to other younger and nicer servers. The food is good, the French toast were delicious and amazing and their coffees really is standing out, I loved it.

Google
Reasonably priced, awesome vibe serving very authentic Mexican food. It's very spacious but can get very crowded, especially in the evening

Google
An excellent choice for authentic Mexican food in the romantic zone. I have been here many times and it does not disappoint. The seafood platter was cooked to perfection and made to order. Everything was fresh and you tasted it. The service was very good. The staff are very attentive and make sure you are satisfied. The drinks were very good as well. I highly recommend trying the restaurant.

Google
Right next to Panchos but a nice restaurant atmosphere. Good for the whole.family. alert, cash only but very affordable.

Google
Great cafe! Deceptive from the outside, doesn't look very big but inside is huge. Great chicken soup and tortilla soup. Coffee is delicious!! Cash only. Everything is priced so reasonably. Must try this cafe!

Yelp
I love this place. It's a little loud if you are looking for a nice quiet meal. The food is consistently good and the wait staff are always upbeat. I had the tortilla soup and it was delicious. I've been going to this restaurant for over 20 years and I hope it sticks around for another 20 years!!

Yelp
Admittedly, I came here because I wanted Pancho's Tacos netxtdoor but their line was too long. Service was very friendly and fast. Food was fresh and flavorful, and menu had lots of options. Husband enjoyed his fish tacos and I enjoyed the sopes. Overall, the food was good but not excellent. Inside gets a little crowded, but the musician's presence enriched our experience. Would return!

Yelp
The food was fantastic so delicious and plentiful. Both our dinners came out super hot we had to cool off each bite. The place was nicely decorated. The waiters were always in motion and quickly responded to our requests. The only downside were the waiters were a little uninterested sometimes, meaning not much interaction. How to describe, but akin to the waiters going through the motions without caring if patrons enjoyed their dining experience. Only reason I could rate them higher.

Yelp
Garlic bread used to dip is sensational , so many different seafood items inserted into this dish lobster, crab octapus shrimp, local fish of the day chips were tooth breaking hard though. amazing soup and great value not to much nor to little perfect portions for 12$. Always seems to be a huge line. Good service, cafe atmosphere.

Yelp
I see these fish tacos in my dreams. Holy cow. I have never had better fish tacos in my life. I thought I knew pretty much how a fish taco would go, but they brought out something that almost looked like a grilled fish fajita mixture in tortillas and it was heaven. It's breakfast time and I could go for more already. And the classic margarita was refreshing and delicious, but word of warning that it was actually very strong. I am no lightweight and I felt this drink less than halfway through. It's a good deal, for sure. The inside is cute, and much bigger than it appears to be on the outside. They have signs hanging around with cute little sayings and there was a musician rounding to serenade each table with an exquisite voice. The service was friendly and even shook our hands when he asked if we were waiting for a table. We were in Puerto Vallarta for 8 days and thought about coming back every day, but there was just so much good food to try. When I come back, I'll be getting more of these tacos!

Yelp
Restaurant is a lot bigger inside than it looks on the outside. Inside has plenty of tables and where we sat felt very cozy. Complimentary chips and salsa. -Chilaquiles was decent. Feel like can't really mess up on this dish anywhere. -Tortilla soup with chicken literally tasted like just overload of soggy tortillas and chicken and it did not taste like chicken tortilla soup prepared in the States. Forgive me if I'm not cultured to enjoy this. -Steak tostadas were also OK. Overall, nothing stood out and my wife enjoyed the complementary chips and salsa more than anything

Yelp
Excellent food and service; one of our faves in Vallarta! Love their ribs and coconut shrimp!

Yelp
Great food.. great prices.. very nice decor...had a grande fresh green juice for 85 pesos...chicken soup was a little bland but added some picante sauce... lineups at the door... very pleased with this place

Yelp
Popular longtime established restaurant grilled potato on the sidewalk is an entertaining site handmade salsa, and a Homie atmosphere. They only take cash. Remember that and enjoy.

Yelp
AMAZING breakfast & BEST coffee!! Service was fast and friendly! Cute little cafe, our son (who lives there) says this is one his FAV spots and I can see why!! MUST try if in PV!!
google avatar

Yelp
Walked by this place a couple times seen the lady outside making handmade tortillas so we knew my wife and I had to try it and it did not disappoint I got the chile con carne and she got pancakes and bacon. Service was great and quick! Highly recommend for every b because it definitely felt like my grandma was back there cooking.

Yelp
Went here for dinner during my stay in PV. It's a charming and cute restaurant. The service was good, the servers were attentive and we got our food fairly quickly. We ordered the pork ribs and octopus. The pork ribs weren't the best, a bit on the drier side, I don't recommend this. The octopus with rice and veggies though was delicious! The portions are also huge, I had leftovers for lunch the next day. The price is very reasonable for the portion size. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting PV and looking for a good octopus dish.

Yelp
I may need to try again. I read the reviews. I hear the hype. People rave about it. I went and found it to be somewhat ordinary. The coffee, people talk about the coffee like it's magic. It was fine. I enjoyed it. I just didn't quite get the wow factor. Committing now; I'll go back for dinner next time, see if my experience changes. I have nothing bad to say about the place... Just didn't quite get the hundreds of five-star reviews.

Chuck D.

Yelp
Don't get the fajitas, they are boiled and not very good. Definitely get the food soup it was very good and huge portion. Otherwise the wait staff was great and cool atmosphere.

Yelp
Went out to dinner with our friends Jude and Larry. They know the lay of the land very well, so any place they choose is going to be good. Cafe de Olla was no exception. The place was busy, and we were easily seated. Service was very efficient, and the atmosphere was lively. The menu is varied, so you will find something to your liking. I had the garlic shrimp entrée while Shelly had the baked potato and steak entrée. Both are excellent choices and delicious.

Yelp
A bit of an old school, authentic restaurant we visit every time we are in town. Service is excellent! Free chips and salsa. They have non-alcoholic beer which can be hard to find. Loved the French onion soup. We shared the steak, lobster and shrimp platter this time. $55 to share fresh, large portions is great in our book. The baked potato had butter and cheese already melted on top. Everything was seasoned well and we will be back. It's also fun people watching to sit at the table right on the sidewalk.

Matt J.

Yelp
Good food at reasonable prices. They were friendly and got us in immediately, but it is cash only.

Yelp
It's always full of people which is a good indication that it's a great place. Food, service, and location are wonderful!

Ben C.

Yelp
Cute restaurant popular with locals. Closest cuisine is like texmex but not as cheesy or heavy. Drinks were huge goblet size. Good for big groups. Brought 10 people here and we walked in after waiting 10 min

Yelp
Absolutley amazing restaurant, highly, highly recommended!!! The staff is super friendly and will bend over backward for you. The food is incredible and soooo reasonably priced. We went there 3 times the week we were in Puerto Vallarta. Haven't had a single thing that wasn't spectacular. Everything is so fresh and presented beautifully. The pina coladas are also one of the best I've ever had. Don't miss eating at this place!!!

Yelp
Delicious tacos and salsa here. The margaritas are delicious and massive. Good service and great street ambience. We'll be back!

Yelp
Everyday at this place has a long line at dinner time, it's crazy so I decided to come check it out during lunch time. The menu looks very tex-mex. The space is cute, colonial decor. They only accept cash. The service is super fast they kept coming to check on us too. The fish soup is very delicious with a lot of shrimp and fish cubes, some octopus and mussels as well, there's a half small lobster and half crab, really good for the money. The fish taco are ok, I prefer the deep fried ones that's more juicy inside.

Yelp
Hands down the best Chile Relleno we have ever had. One of the best things about PVR is the authentic Chile Relleno. You cannot get this quality and authenticity in the U.S. Cafe de Olla is a wonderful restaurant. The staff are amazing and polite. We met locals here who could not stop raving about how amazing the restaurant, staff and owners were. Also, the rice and beans?? Unreal. This might be the best food we have had in PVR. This needs to be a must stop when visiting. Also, the Cadillac Margarita was really good also.

Yelp
Delicious. Great service. Love watching street traffic. Fun atmosphere Fab Mexican and fish

Yelp

Yelp
Probably eaten here 30 times or more. A family favorite when we come. My girlfriend and I went for dinner. We ordered a shrimp cocktail and asked off 2 Pancho tacos before we ordered the rest of the dinner. The waiter was so rude, the rudest EVER. The shrimp came and her NEVER came back. The regular tall dark haired guy who is always there was the one who finally came by to take my order. It definitely left a bad taste. It is rare to have any one rude in Puerto Vallarta. I suppose there is a first.
google avatar

Yelp
I had the sampler of BBQ here last week and it was delicious. The service was very accommodating and the BBQ we could see being made right in front of us. Will definitely come back next time we are in PV

Yelp
I love this little coffee shop! I literally went there three days in a row when I was staying in Puerto Vallarta. The first day I got the iced café de olla coffee. The second day I went and got Chile relleno! It was so yummy and it wasn't expensive at all! I think I paid five dollars for the whole meal with rice and beans! Honestly the crazy part is everything is so expensive and delicious The next day for breakfast I got Chilaquiles with green sauce. As you can see in the picture of the eggs look like they are organic eggs especially because of the bright orange yolk! I also had a cafe de olla coffee. The cool part is you get a block of sugar and you put the sugar in your coffee and I have to say it was so good! If you are in Puerto Vallarta make sure you get a coffee and a meal from here.

Yelp
My wife ordered fish tacos but the served tacos were clearly half fish half chicken. My wife decided to raise this issue but all waiters insisted those are fish. I was wearing an Hawaiian shirt, but decided to keep silent - I don't debate with a restaurant whether their food is good or bad. The bill was 830. I have no change so I left 1,000. My wife was mad because I didn't defend her and I still tipped a lot. A fun day at PV was ruined, because cafe de olla saved a few pesos by switching fish to chicken and bet Americans can't tell.

Yelp
Over the years, Café de Olla continues to be one of my favorite breakfast spots in Puerto Vallarta. Outside in front of the restaurant you'll usually find someone cooking tortillas on a wood burning grill. Pretty authentic! You'll also usually find a line of customers waiting for tables. Inside probably hasn't been renovated since it opened decades ago, but it adds to the quaint and unique ambience. The menu isn't enormous, but you'll find the standard American and Mexican breakfast offerings. My favorite are the chilaquiles which resemble a breakfast scramble over tortilla chips, or breakfast nachos LOL. Yesterday I ordered a shrimp and mushroom omelet. As with all omelets it came with refried beans. I'm glad I ordered sides of hash browns and bacon (crispy and burnt just like I like it). The salsa was fresh and tasty. Rick L's oatmeal bowl was huge and he couldn't finish it. The coffee is strong and delicious. It comes with large cylinder chunks of unrefined sugar (sugar and sweetener packets also available). With the ongoing pandemic, I was glad to see hand sanitizer everywhere, and they clear off all the jar condiments from the table for cleaning.

Rick H.

Yelp
Worst food so far in PV. Fajitas were boiled before thrown on a hot plate, nachos had mostly beans and sprinkle of cheese, found a hair in the guacamole. I don't recommend

Brent R.

Yelp
Great menu and great food! Café de Olla is right next door to Ponchos Taco's so it may get overshadowed by their popularity. We happen to walk by several mornings when they were out roasting their tomatoes and peppers for the days salsa. One morning we decided to go in and we're surprised how large the restaurant really is. There are cash only, but trust me you won't spend much here. The food is very authentic and the prices are very very reasonable. For an appetizer I recommend the melted cheese. We just had it plain melted cheese with flour tortillas, but it is excellent seafood is as well as there authentic Mexican dishes, please do not miss this great little restaurant due to its close proximity to ponchos tacos. Breakfast lunch and dinner are all excellent!

Yelp
Solid place for brunch if you're in the Zona Romantica area! The menu is massive, portions are a healthy size, and the margaritas give you the right buzz. I personally ordered the steak fajitas and it was honestly enough food for two meals! The meat was slightly over cooked but I could barely notice since the side of refried beans and guac were so flavorful. I also enjoyed how they provided complementary chips and salsa (not picture since we devoured them). Definitely recommend this place if you're looking for some no frills Mexican food.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite go to for breakfast, the crowd shows up really early so it's best to be there when it opens at 9 AM. There is a large menu here but I chose the web for St. Charles, the delicate sauce the eggs were so light and fluffy and then I got a side plate of fruit is exceptional very reasonable very nice exterior and interior, I think this place has been around 20 years or longer. I've always liked going here and again after 20 years it did not disappoint.
google avatar

Alan B.

Yelp
I've walked by Cafe de Olla often on other trips but never came to eat. I'm glad I stopped in this time. The service was good, the enchiladas were delicious, and they have AC in the back. I'll be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Food was incredible. Went with 10 friends and we loved it. Highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Yelp
There was a bit of a line to get inside but it moves rather quickly. Got to try the Seafood platter! Which is on the secret menu ;) Its basically a platter of variety of grilled seafood (there's surf and turf version too) for $920 pesos! There was lobster, shrimp, fish, rice and veggies. If you're eating here and love seafood, definitely check out that dish.
google avatar

Jacqueline M.

Yelp
This restaurant is iconic and still retains its unique flavors. We enjoyed our dinner here as the fajitas were fabulous. My husband got the bbq plate and it was wonderful too. We will always visit here when we come to this lovely town.

Yelp
This place came highly recommended. By yelp, by other travelers, by a food tour guide we had. I simply do not understand it. Been in PV for over 10 days and eaten well over 20 different places - this place is the worst of them all so far. What the race is about I simply do not get. I had the banana leaf tamales. Maybe they are something for the hardcore tamale fan but I thought they were awful. I had tacos. The portion was great. Expecting 3 street size tacos, and getting 3 full size tacos and some beans (no rice) I was impressed. No other toppings offered besides pico de gallo and salsa Rojo (both made in house). As for tacos go, very bland - I have had better in the US Salsa Rojo was great. I also tried the empenadas. Same thing here, quite bland and boring. So much good food in PV and this place underdelivered impressively. This is the most diner-feel I have had in PV. Almost forgot the mojito. A big nice fishbowl of beverage, that tasted like... nothing. It was basically water and mint leaves. Probably the most disappointing mojito I have ever tasted.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The food is delicious and the portions are huge. You have to try their seafood soup. Their staff is awesome and accommodating. They serve an excellent breakfast lunch or dinner

Yelp
We enjoyed Cafe de Olla on three occasions during our 1 week visit. Food is flavorful and fresh. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent. Staff was attentive as well. We will be back!
google avatar

Lily L.

Yelp
Came to this restaurant because it was all over tik tok. The wait on a Friday afternoon was not bad and we were seated in back. This restaurant looks way smaller from the front btw. The staff was nice and the food was good and I would come again. There's a lot of vendors across from them which is nice.
google avatar

Jordan C.

Yelp
One of the best breakfast spots we tried during a recent week in PV. There was a line for breakfast, but we were seated within 20 minutes. Highly recommend if you are looking for a good breakfast.

Lizeth R.

Yelp
Nice spot! Definitely underrated! Walking distance from the beach. Food was VERY tasty and consistent. Here is what I ordered. Queso con chorizo as an appetizer: I liked it. Steak burrito was also great. Great flavor, I would order again. Sopes: I had picadillos and steak. Steak was my favorite. Also had 2 margarita (pineapple and strawberry). You can skip the pineapple and maybe get traditional or strawberry. Service was nothing but great. Staff is friendly and available. Ambiance is very chill. We had dinner and it was pretty open and fast. I would like to try breakfast . They have a very nice coffee machine that look like makes great coffee. I would say this is a good spot for family or group dining. To the staff.. Thank you for your service!
google avatar

Abby C.

Yelp
This place is very consistent. We've been coming here for 20 years. Staff is very friendly. It's my favorite place for pico de gallo. We love the tortilla soup and empanadas. Fajitas are always good and several options for kids.
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant has really good priced Mexican food. We went here for breakfast and it was absolutely delicious. We were pleasantly surprised with the service and how tasty the food was. You definitely get more bang for your buck.
google avatar

Pranamee S.

Yelp
This place is old school Mexican breakfast and is top of the list for some traditional mexican omelettes. Our line was short but usually the wait could be 30-45 mins during the day. You can watch the cooks do their magic while you wait. It's pretty amazing how they toss and plate so fast... scramble the egg, add the meat, fry, salsa, fry, plate .... and Repeat! Do try their hot salsas that are made from scratch and are really spicy. The service is prompt, seating is limited and it is a small place This is also a spot where locals eat their weekend breakfasts so definitely worth a stop on your trip to PV!
google avatar

Miguel G.

Yelp
Ambiance was awesome. Presentation of food was great. Taste of food was ok. Prices were reasonable Not the most authentic tasting Mexican food. I'm from Los an ageless and I've had better at home. I had green enchiladas with chicken. The sauce simply didn't have the kick that I'm used to. Otherwise I would still recommend this place. It might have just been the plate I chose. Enjoy
