One of best places in Patan to try authentic Newari food. The place was chosen by my colleague to introduce local food to a group of our clients this morning and I should say that was a great decision. The servers were also really hospitable and accommodating. Definitely recommend.

During my visit to Nepal in early 2025, I stopped by Café de Patan, a small family-run restaurant in the heart of Patan’s old city. The atmosphere was quiet and authentic, surrounded by the rich cultural heritage of the area. The family running the café was warm and welcoming. I tried Chatamari for the first time—simple, traditional, and full of local flavor. Sitting on the rooftop afterward, I enjoyed a peaceful view of Patan’s historic skyline. This café isn’t fancy, but it carries a quiet charm that reflects the soul of the city. A lovely place to pause and feel connected.

A pleasant location, but the service is subpar. The server wasn’t attentive, had to ask for the same thing multiple times, yet he kept on forgetting. And once the food was brought, that was it, no check backs, nothing. We said we’d order mains as we only ordered sides but there was no one to be seen. And the food was utterly awful, we ordered cheeseballs, it was fine but it came with a mayo, which wasn’t best of quality. And the boneless chicken chilly was shameful, it was undercooked, batter was burnt, and not even mixed with the chilly sauce, it actually didn’t have any chilly sauce. Didn’t even ordered mains after that. And even the coke came in a plastic glass.

The staff were incredibly warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, making the whole experience feel personal and relaxed. The attached café also served delicious food and coffee, making it a great spot to unwind. If you're looking for a quiet, authentic, and beautifully maintained place to stay in Patan, I highly recommend Café de Patan. I’ll definitely return!

The view is excellent over the city. The service is good but the food is average. The coffee is not that great for Nepal. Music was too loud and heavy on the bass. Who plays that kind of music in the morning? Felt like I was being repeatedly kicked in the ears.

Café de Patan is a charming restaurant located close to the heart of Patan Durbar Square (Yela Lyaku). The ambience is a perfect blend of traditional Newa culture and modern dining setup, making it a unique spot for both locals and visitors. The restaurant beautifully incorporates Newa architecture, with intricate woodwork and heritage-inspired decor, giving you the feeling of being immersed in history while enjoying a great meal. The food here is authentic and fantastic, with a variety of traditional Newa dishes that you shouldn’t miss. Some of the highlights include the cone pizza, buff and chicken ginger with baji set, and the Newa platter, which offers a delightful mix of flavors. Other must-try items include momo, soups, burgers, bara (woo), and chattamari, all prepared with great attention to taste and authenticity. They also have a good selection of coffee and alcoholic beverages, making it a great place for a relaxed meal or an evening hangout. If you’re looking for a place to experience traditional Newa cuisine, Café de Patan is the place to be. For two-wheelers, parking is convenient, but if you’re driving a four-wheeler, you’ll need to park at the Durbar Square parking lot. Payments are easy with QR and card payment options available. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to enjoy great food in a cultural setting!

The food was okay. Tried their buff choila; the meat was very hard. The Chinese Chopsuey had no flavour. The Fish Sizzler was salty.
