Great food, good prices, cash only. One of my favorite spots for a late breakfast in Roma. Everything I've had here is good.

Small but worth trying eatery for either breakfast lunch or dinner with very authentic and food from the Huasteca. Offer a number of delicious food options such as the rice tamales! The frijoles and cheese option a must. Ask the staff for recommendations and enjoy the traditional music played time to time by passing by musicians.

Went here because I heard that they offer a unique selection of tamales. We tried the tamales de arroz with pollo, tamales en papatla with rojo pollo, and tamales en papatla with frijol. My favorite was the rice tamales but all were absolutely delicious! The perfect way to end a long day

Update: I hate doing this to a small business or even changing my review if it was already a 5 star. This morning I went in for breakfast and there were no orders waiting since the two tables that were there had their food on the table. As soon as the server came to our table we ordered our drinks and food. About 5-7 minutes later a female walked in and the server greeted her with a kiss on the cheek (which I assume is her friend.) He took her order and that was that. After about 10 minutes her food comes out and we still had not received our food. About 2 minutes later my food comes out and it was cold. My partner’s food did not come out with mine, but it came out 5 minutes later and it was hot. I did not enjoy mine since it was cold. Not sure what they do in the kitchen and why the friend’s food came out first, but what a disappointment. I will not return. Old review: This has to be one of the last places to eat a good and taste breakfast at a reasonable price in Roma. The food was great, the prices were just, and the staff is nice. CASH ONLY.

They have zacahuil which is hard to find in the city since it’s a dish made in Veracruz. They make it there and send it to the restaurant for customers to buy over the weekend. It’s an ancient culinary tradition of the huastec people. It’s a giant tamal usually cooked underground and wrap in banana leaves. Try it!

A cute, chic spot for a speciality Mexican food. We visited this place as a part of our food tour ( booked through TripAdvisor). We tasted three kinds of tamale here- one with bean, another with sweet corn, and the third one was pretty unique. This was made with rice and chicken inside. Three different kinds were very unique and bite sized. The outdoor seating was great. We enjoyed our time here.

Great staff. Traditional huasteca food with Mexico City influence. Bread is good, café con leche is great, and the concha rellena is a must. As is the case in other places, they overdo it a bit with too much bread, which is a bit wasteful. Maybe make a note to not bring extra bread to the table unless you ask.

Mexico City! Roma Norte We didn't see too many tamales being sold on the street so we decided to try Cafe de Raiz. The Yelp reviews in Mexico City wasn't too helpful because everyone seemed to go to Google for the reviews. I'm trying to help by posting reviews and pictures for the yelpers out there. First off, the tamales are pretty big so a few shared is plenty for breakfast or early lunch. It was different then the ones I usually had. The most intriguing dish by far was their bowl. It's a tamales style called zacahuil which is made in a banana leaf and though it's a version of tamales, it's uniquely delicious in the best way possible. I loved it!!!! You get both a hot sauce (spicy!) and a cream sauce to put on the tamales which defiantly levels up the dishes. Another thing to mention, their coffee game is legit. One of the best coffees I've had during my visit to This beautiful city. Service was amazing. There are a few tables inside and out and the ambiance and neighborhood is so cute.

Had the chilaquiles-- i've had better, but they weren't the worst. Latte was decent, but I would save my coins for a different coffee shop. It's definitely a cheaper alternative to the other restaurants in the area, but if you require top tier food, then go somewhere else. Has outdoor seating too which was nice with the good weather.

The food was absolutely delicious! Super authentic and very affordable! I had the chilaquiles and my dad had the huevos rancheros. Don't forget to get their cappuccino! 10/10 recommend

This is an amazing little cafe - small in size but big in flavors. I first encountered it as part of a food tour and went back for the tamales. The rice and beans, black beans in plantain leaf, and sweet corn tamale are unbelievably yummy. I got three tamales to share with my partner for breakfast and they were more than filling. I wish I had had time to try all the other dishes on the menu. The cafe provides an opportunity to support a local sister and brother business that celebrates Yucatan cuisine.

A-mazing! This quiet little nook is a gem. The coffee is good and the food is great. The zacahuil (tamal in banana leaf) is absolutely delicious. The service was great and a family of five can eat at a VERY reasonable price. Excellent food. Excellent service. A must when strolling around Colonia Roma.

Delicious, cheap, friendly, no fuss breakfast! We went close to when it opened at 10 am. The place is tiny and very cute-- about 4 tables inside and 3 outside with a tiny counter and kitchen. Menu is traditional and very cheap ($35 for a tamale, $60 for full breakfast). We started with coffees, moved on to taste tamales (rojo was best, salsa was spicy and yum), and had some chicaquiles. Yum!!! Table next to us had a chocolate pastry that looked to die for but we were stuffed at this point. Total bill was under 10 USD. Definitely recommend for a relaxed breakfast.

My favourite place to have tamales in Mexico City. I've tried all of them and was surprised to find the black bean tamales were actually my favourite. They look bland but the flavour is anything but, definitely recommend. If we make it on time the breakfast is great though it ends at around noon. My favourite combo consists of scrambled eggs, refried beans and a tamale for under 50 pesos. Excellent way to start the day!

This is a total gem that I wouldn't have found if not for my friend who lives in CDMX. The tamales are so good - you can't just have one! I'm always in search of a good tamale and this was the best one I had in Mexico. Many different kinds but the sweet corn elote one was divine. This place has a very local/neighborhood feel - highly recommended!

I came here for breakfast and was very happy with the food and atmosphere. The temale's were amazing, so much that they are in the running for best in Mexico City. You must try the leaf and rice temale's.

Pretty Good Tamales. Lots of masa and rice but not much in the way of filling. We tried 5 or 6 different kinds- all they had. Our favorites were either the sweet ones or the red or green ones, which were filled with chicken. The place was really nice and I liked the people working there.

Solid tamales, some of the best I've ever had. The red tamales with chicken and the spicy salsa is amazing. I will definitely be back.

Some of the most amazing tamales I've ever had. Not what I expect when I think of a traditional Mexican tamal but definitely delicious. The tamales de frijol con cilantro y chile verde & the Xamitl (corn tamal) are a must.
