Nestled in the heart of Mussoorie’s bustling Mall Road, Café de Tavern is a charming and cozy spot that offers more than just great food — it offers a slice of Mussoorie itself. With its inviting ambiance, warm lighting, and creative menu, this cafe is a perfect blend of local spirit and contemporary flair. Each dish is cleverly named after iconic places around Mussoorie, making your dining experience feel like a flavorful tour of the hill town.
We began our culinary journey with the James Skinner Peri Peri Fries — a generous serving of golden, crispy fries tossed in a bold peri peri spice mix. Served piping hot, the fries struck a satisfying balance between crunch and softness, with a fiery kick that lingered pleasantly on the palate. A perfect start, especially for those who love a little heat.
Next up was the GNFC Classic Pull-Apart Garlic Bread infused with truffle oil. This was a standout dish — soft, buttery bread with a beautifully crisp exterior, oozing with aromatic garlic and a subtle earthiness from the truffle oil. The cheese pull was just right, and the portion size generous enough to share (though you may not want to).
For the main course, we chose the Vincent Hill Delight Pizza, and it truly lived up to its name. The thin, perfectly baked crust served as the base for a rich duo of béchamel and pomodoro sauces, which provided both creaminess and tang. The toppings — grilled mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, feta cheese, and crispy spinach — were fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully balanced, offering a medley of textures in every bite.
To complement the food, we sipped on the Pineapple Mint Mojito — a refreshing mocktail made with pineapple chunks, muddled mint leaves, brown sugar, and topped with Limca. It was light, tropical, and palate-cleansing, making it a great accompaniment to the bold flavors of our meal.
We also tried the Hampton Berry Cocktail, a delightful blend of gin, mixed berries, fresh malta syrup, lime juice, and mint. The drink was well-balanced, fruity yet not overly sweet, with a citrusy zing and a refreshing finish — perfect for a breezy Mussoorie evening.
Over all, Café de Tavern is more than just a cafe; it’s an experience. Whether you’re in for a quick bite, a hearty meal, or just a well-crafted drink, the combination of thoughtful food, creative concept, and location makes this a must-visit when in Mussoorie. Highly recommended for both tourists and locals looking for a memorable, flavorful break.
