It is a really hidden gems in the town. That was a a nice afternoon over there. Atmosphere was quite good. The highlight of the cafe was wooden fireplace. Would love to visit again soon.

Old authentic bar far off the loud touristic places. There are a lot of beers to choose from. I asked the barman to recommend me a good white wine and he gave me all of the white wines they had to try so I could choose the one I like the most. He was very talkative and friendly just like all of the visitors of this bar :)

Cute little brown bar with a cozy wood burning fireplace upstairs. This place is always busy but the tables turn relatively quickly so you can find a spot to sit. The barkeep is very friendly and would highly recommend this spot for a nightcap

Cozy and nice, but normally packed. Hard to get a seat or talk to friends. But maybe for a couple to sit close and talk? Or just avoid the peak hours (I wanted to take a photo of the wall fire but that couple in was so closely sitting to it the whole time. Sorry guys for having your face here)

Owner Stephan and his team members like Friso run this bar in a very chill way. Everyone is welcome to walk in, chill, and have a beer. It’s no party bar, it’s in style of “chimney, board games and bar talk”. Very nice place to sit down and relax after a day in the city. Oh - and their selection of tea is incredible, ask for it! ;-)

Yelp
Along with Cafe Brecht nearby, this and that were my two favorite bars during my week in Amsterdam. Cafe de Wetering is a brown cafe (or brown bar). Here is a cool list of them: https://www.iamsterdam.com/en/see-and-do/eating-and-drinking/brown-cafes Brown cafes were my favorite part of Amsterdam. Some Internet info about them: "The brown café, the "bruine kroeg" in Dutch, is known for its dark wood and smoke-stained walls. These cozy watering-holes are an essential part of Amsterdam culture. For many people, their local brown café becomes an extension of their living room. Many of these establishments have been around for centuries, and earned their nickname because they feature wooden interiors surrounded by walls stained a yellowish-brown hue due to years of smoke." Of all the brown cafes I visited, this was my favorite. For one single reason. A working fireplace! And they had a cat roaming around. Contrary to what you might think, brown cafes have food! Some, like this one, just have meat and cheese, while others have fried goodies like bitterballen. What a wonderful place to spend a cold or rainy afternoon.

Yelp
I felt like I was imposing when we stumbled into this bar - it feels very local. That said, the staff were extremely friendly to us. Good beer selection, nice fire in an ancient fireplace, and cozy digs for sipping the aforementioned beer. As mentioned in other reviews, the bar has a live-in cat. A very cool cat.

Yelp
Of all my years and miles of traveling, this place is, without a doubt, my favorite local find. On a recent trip to Amsterdam, my friend and I arrived pretty late to the city. We stayed at a great apartment I found on AirBnB. Tired, jet lagged, but excited, we decided to get one beer before we called it a night. I noticed a little sign about 50 meters from the apartment. We popped in for a drink. Wow. What a place. Small, simple, inviting, and tons of old world charm that was authentic! They didn't remodel the place to look charming; it was oozing with charm from its bones. It's a pretty small place, which forced conversation with everyone inside. We got our first beer. Something I had never heard of before, and don't know now what it was called. It was delightful. We started chatting with some of the other patrons, all locals, and we were quickly off to a late night out. The locals gave us some amazing recommendations for other bars and restaurants they insisted we be sure to check out. One beer turned into five, and before we knew it, we had been there for a couple of hours. We were in Amsterdam for 5 days total, and went in here every night for one last drink (or three). Honestly, this bar is a place I will never forget, and next time I am in Amsterdam, I am coming here!

Yelp
A very cosy pub, the staff was very nice, the beers good. Nice seating with places at 3 levels. The second floor is dominated by a big fireplace which gives the whole pub a warm and cosy feeling. The atmosphere is really homey and nice. If I'm ever in Amsterdam, I'll be sure to come back.

Yelp
I have such a hard time figuring out what a café where you can get a cup of coffee is, what a café you can get a beer at is and what a café where you can buy a joint is. Where I'm from, the distinctions are much more clear haha. Anyways, I went here looking for a place to go for a coffee on a cold, rainy afternoon and I think I might have chosen somewhere a little better suited to a biertje. They did serve coffee, but I think I was breaking the Dutch rule of nothing non-alcoholic after 4pm... felt a bit out of place and it also seemed like the sort of place that get's busy later in the day. It's an old, "dive" bar tucked away and I imagine it is mostly a local crowd. I will be sure to go back when I'm in the mood for something stronger than a coffee. ALSO, they have a live-in cat, which I think is great (very Dutch). It was having a nap on the window sill right by us while we were enjoying our coffees.

Yelp
This is the cafe we popped into to celebrate our engagement to be married mainly because it was close and open. As local a bar as you will find in Amsterdam. We enjoyed the jenever, beer and atmosphere. Typically Dutch in that initially our reception was cold and indifferent. However, don't take this personally. It's just the way they are. If you are looking for a place to chill in the centrum check it out. It ain't fancy but it does have character.

Yelp
I am reluctant to review this pub as it is a gem and I don't want it to be overcrowded, but here it goes. It is such a great find! Really lovely patron, extremely knowleageable of wine. We all had a different kind of red and it was sublime. We met for our weekly bookgroup and it was lovely and cozy. Like a pub should be. They have a very limited card, which is fine. We had the cheese blocks and it melted in your mouth. My new favourite go to place to snuggle in the corner with a good glas of merlot and a book.
