Cafe Dewitt

It's a very popular place, but I wasn't impressed. I think you can find better choices in Downtown Ithaca.

I order the same ‘diner breakfast’ at every place to compare the nuance. The staff at Cafe Dewitt don’t cut corners - eggs were perfect, and the quality of ingredients comes through in flavor. Home fries are the best I’ve had in town. they’re made with real cut potatoes (I’ll rant about fake home fries in another review). Anyways service is great, fast, and food is amazing. I wish they had windows, longer hours, all that stuff but it is what it is, a cafe that’s been around town as long as I can remember in a historic building with a real local vibe. I love that, so I can get my window seat another time. Thanks Cafe Dewitt!

Wonderful staff, cool location and general vibes (love the fish tanks), and delicious food. The Kai omlette with sourdough toast was excellent. The kitchen easily and effectively handled my wife's dietary demands around celiac disease. Reasonably priced to boot! Will absolutely return. Great job all around! Thanks!

I ate here based on Google reviews. I was not impressed. When I arrived at 9:30 am it was not busy but the service was very slow. My server was inattentive and didn’t express any interest in my wellbeing. My food was delivered so slowly that I had to rush to eat and then hustled to the register to pay because I knew that my one-hour parking meter was nearly expired. I was parked less than five minutes from the cafe, so you can see it took me 50 minutes to get my meal, pay and rush to my vehicle. I had three minutes spare. Google directions are inadequate. The photo shows there is no signage only for the cafe. When you go through the entrance you need to take the stairs down and then walk ahead. There is a funny smell in the lower level where the cafe is.

Had a delicious brunch with friends on a Sunday morning. Staff was fantastic and attentive. Food was excellent and fast. We had a group six and everything was spot on! I ordered the pecan waffle special. This waffle was wonderful...made with browned butter, topped with chantilly cream, toasted pecans, and drizzled with maple syrup! Yummy! Featured in the photos are items that our table ordered: Waffle Special, Eggs Benedict, and the Omelet Special. Will definitely return! What a gem. FYI - cash or check only.

I live right nearby and love their service and locally-sourced food. Food is good, selection nothing too amazing, but just really solid. Free coffee refills are a plus! It's no wonder there's always a huge line during weekends. Staff are friendly, though service is not very fast. Plan for a little extra time to finish up a meal here.

Well first I was greated by a young man that had a fantastic personality, didnt get his name but nice ink and epic earrings . High five for an outstanding great and personality. Then I got my waiter was the full throttle trying to rush and said I would be a few was never there before and had two teens with me one that has special needs and lots of repeating of things. With the waiter being hype and pushing breakfast ed and ordering has now became a chore and not a joy. So my son runs of of vibes and atmosphere etc and now is very uncomfortable and wants to leave and is now not happy about anything, cant blame him. Place is not busy and stayed that ways . So why all the hype. And the menu is not what you expect it's kinda very different . I did not see one menu what was on Google menu for here . So that was hard for my son as well . There is no potato, egg,meat and toasted combos it pay and pieces together as you go. Now the food part, food took awhile but it's not a drive thru so expected, was plated nice ,toasted not buttered but I understand for other people that might not know you can ask for dry toasted lol kids thought it was ok so that was a win. I am going to try this place one more time at a later day to give it another chance

I went there during my trip in August and they had a special menu for each month. There was a line at lunch time but the service was good and most of all the food was delicious! I had the frittata called Finely and it is one of the restaurants I want to go to again in Ithaca.

Still serving delicious food and sending happy vibes to customers, this little restaurant always delivers fresh food in a great location at Dewitt mall in Ithaca,NY. Health food oriented, delicious and moderately priced.

A few steps down into the Dewitt mall in Ithaca and you will find yourself at a simple eatery Cafe Dewitt. Had a sandwich called the "Picnic". Some turkey, bacon , Sal's greens chips, and some mustard mayo dressing on a fresh ciabatta roll. The sandwich was great and it came with a fresh side salad and bright vinaigrette dressing. There are many places to eat that. Ithaca , but Cafe Dewitt delivers quality food for locally sourced vendors. Check it out.

Decent breakfast spot. The service is pretty slow so if you are in a rush, I would definitely recommend going somewhere else. The Brenda special (open-faced toast on sourdough with broccoli-lemon hummus, roasted brussel sprouts, and cheese) and French Toast were both good.

Love to come here and try their weekly specials! They have fun drinks and desserts as well. The service is attentive, but you often have to wait for a table a bit. Perfect place for a casual or solo date. Side salad is annoyingly good.

Cafe Dewitt serves delicious breakfast sandwiches for a relatively cheap price in the Ithaca area! The food is surprisingly yummy for its unassuming appearance. I ordered the Tiberius breakfast sandwich, which had a pork breakfast sausage on a soft sesame bun. The meal was very simple but filling. This is a quaint, must-try cafe if you are looking for a lowkey brunch spot!

Don't let the humble location of this cafe fool you, this is some of the best food I've had in Ithaca. I wasn't expecting much of this super-casual almost pop-up-like cafe in the entryway of the Dewitt mall, but holy shit. I got the farmhouse breakfast; scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, rosemary potatoes, and sourdough toast with jam. My girlfriend got an egg white omelet with ham, onions, and tomato chutney on top. Everything is locally sourced, and it's all incredible. Another thing I really liked about this place is that they have a service charge wrapped into the price of the food. More places should do this! Service staff shouldn't have to rely on tips to survive, and the food wasn't really any more expensive than anything else in the area. We'll definitely be stopping by again next time we're in the area.

Dropped in here on a Friday morning at the start of Labor Day weekend shortly after opening. There is no designated outdoor seating right now but the indoor seating is spaced out nicely and well divided between tables. Even though it is indoors, the mall is pretty spacious and being there early on weekday meant we had the place to ourselves effectively. The staff were very helpful and took our orders at the counter and brought food to us at our table. The menu was a little bit curtailed the day we were there and it sounded like they have cut it back a little over the last few months. It looks like a lot of the orders were for take away which was being run smoothly. The food we ordered was solid. I got a pretty standard egg breakfast and my +1 got a fantastic sandwich that mixed sweet and savory. Overall, solid food at good prices with a public health conscious and friendly staff. I would be happy to return here for breakfast again.

Four stars for food and two stars for Service. Spilled coffee no napkins brought just looked at us. Coffee and water not refilled. Huevos rancheros delicious. Special omelette with andouille sausage delicious. French toast with apricot ricotta delicious. Sweet lovely spot. Wish the servers were attentive.

We got the farmhouse breakfast and an omelette on a Monday morning here. All the ingredients were noticeably fresh. The fresh squeezed orange juice was a delicious addition to the meal. The service was friendly and prompt. Definitely a little pricey (and cash only), but we did love our breakfast!

Would rate this place 0 stars if I could. Quite literally the worst breakfast place I've ever been to, mostly because of the horrendous service. Took over 40 minutes for our food to come out and not once did anyone ask if we wanted more coffee or beverages or come to check on us during that time. Food comes out and mediocre and underwhelming. Server asked if we wanted more coffee or hot sauce. Said yes to both and were there another 20 minutes at least and he never came back. Tried to get another server's attention for coffee and were completely ignored. Only 12 or so tables and a fairly small menu so no excuse for the atrocious service.

In the same building as the legendary vegetarian restaurant, Moosewood. But does not deserve to be on the same continent with Moosewood, let alone the same building. It is an all purpose breakfast and lunch place. The positive feature about it (which gives it three stars rather than two) is that it is in a charming location - along a basement corridor next to a cool bookstore, cool hippie things to buy for your house stores and farther down, a cool folk music guitar store with well chosen cds. So eating there feels literary, suave and countercultural. You had better be anti-materialistic too - because the food ain't great, A cafe au lait had old stale coffee and had to be sent back. A croissant was indifferent. Soft boiled eggs were boiled just to the point of inconvenience, where the shell adhered to the egg, making it hard to open, while the yolk ran everywhere making the egg half inedible. Service was nuisancesome - with the waiter asking several times if he could take my plate - even with my still-being-eaten-breakfast clearly on the plate - and him repeating the nuisance calls even after I asked him to let me finish before coming back. (For the record, the restaurant was barely 20% full so it was not like he desperately needed my table.) There has gotta be a better breakfast someplace else.

We are traveling from Texas and found this lovely pastry store in Ithaca. Did not expect much but it is deliciously underrated! We are going back again tomorrow!

Walked by this building so many times before I realized this AMAZING cafe was in here. Honestly the best breakfast/brunch I've had in Ithaca. Loved the French toast especially- stuffed with some heavenly something. Superb. Super good quality, good portions for what you pay, and great down to earth staff. This place is a gem of Ithaca and would choose to take visitors here as my breakfast of choice.

Came here on Ithaca College family Weekend. All the restaurants were packed and we didn't make reservations in advance. They open at 10 and we got inline around 9:55. Line was pretty long but we were seated about 15 minutes later. We had omelettes , hash dish and eggs Benedict. Very good service , delicious food and I was very impressed at how quickly they turned the food out. Would go again for sure.

I've been here twice, and the first time was far better than the second. Nothing's wrong with the service, the servers are all very friendly, my qualms are with the food. The first time I ate here, I had the Tex Mex, which was amazing. It was fresh and delicious and came with so much food, and the bread was the best I'd tasted since working in France a year ago. (In fact, I couldn't finish the plate, so I bagged the bread and took it with me.) The second time, I ordered the rosemary garlic potatoes and the lamb merguez potatoes. Both were disappointing. The potatoes had an odd taste--perhaps excessive rosemary?--with no hint of garlic, and several of the pieces were completely burnt on the bottom. The merguez was even more of a let-down. I hate wasting food but couldn't bring myself to finish it, it was just so fatty that my stomach was unhappy afterwards. I've had merguez (granted, in an authentic Maghrébin restaurant in France), and it was juicy with a delightful blend of spices. It tasted nothing like condensed fat. I guess Café Dewitt is hit or miss, depending on what you order. Also, just an FYI, they don't take card, only cash.

Simply exquisite food in the shadow of the legendary Moosewood. If you are looking for fine dining experience then this place is probably not for you, but if you want an affordable, freshly prepared lunch, it is not to be missed. After many years of passing it by for Moosewood visits I had the pleasure of enjoying a most memorable meal. They offer the most delicious burger (Tuesday's only) that is not to be missed! Perfectly cooked and crowned with a dizzying compilation of toppings that meld beautifully along with a fresh side salad dressed with the secret house dressing. My dining companion is already planing her return visit to this amazing place, I am too.

This place is mediocre-at-best. I have been to Cafe DeWitt more times than I can count at this point and I feel like this is one of the fairest reviews that I could give.  My most recent visit solidified a lot of the feelings that I've previously held about Cafe DeWitt but this specific experience confirmed that firmed that I won't be going back to Cafe DeWitt anytime in the foreseeable future. Overall: The service is quite slow, you can almost always expect to wait in line, and if you show up past 11:30 you can guarantee that at least one of the specials for the day on the weekend will be unavailable...if you show up past 12:30 sometimes regular brunch menu items are unavailable. This Visit: Definitely solidified just how mediocre this place really is. From the moment I stepped into the line to the time I left I was so uncomfortable and frustrated it took everything in my power not to just get up and leave. There were about four other people in front of me in line and within a couple of minutes they were all seated. Considering there were several tables open I figured I would be seated next. However when the hostess came to ask for my name to seat me her response was "it's going to be a 15 to 20-minute wait"when I asked why she said almost verbatim  "...because there are no small tables available and we like to reserve the bigger tables for bigger groups, so you can leave if you'd like instead of waiting..." At that point I should have left but I stayed because I was very hungry and I already made the effort of walking to my local bank to get cash out because the restaurant is cash only... so I was committed to getting food from there. About 15 minutes pass and she comes up to me and says "do you plan on staying here long? If not I can seat you at a big table... otherwise you're going to still have to wait for a small table." I was so confused by her question and put off by her demeanor I looked at her and said "I'm fine waiting as I stated before." Eventually I was seated in my order was taken but when my food was brought to me it was the wrong order. Apparently my waiter thought that I asked for two full meals in addition to the appetizer I added to my order later. This problem could have easily been solved if he had just repeated my order back to me which he never did. The order I did intend on eating was quite delicious and I was told that I could take the other meal to go as they did not want to waste food. I paid for my meal still left an overly generous tip and walked out.

If you're in Ithaca, don't make the mistake of not eating here. Some of the friendliest employees I've ever met and I love it's located in the middle of a strip mall. My boyfriend and I each had an omelette. Mine was their sandwich special - apple sausage hash, spinach, manchego, and onion - as an omelette. And my boyfriend got the omelette frances, their special of the day. These were the best omelette we've ever had in our life. So fluffy and like little pillows filled with the perfect mix of ingredients. Blended so nicely and didn't fall apart at all. YUM. Hazlenut pesto was also bomb. As I write this review, I actually think I'm going to ask my boyfriend if he wants to go back here for breakfast.

We came to experience Moosewood, but had an outstanding meal at Cafe Dewitt. The Moose was closed for an impromptu staff meeting so it was out great fortune to change plans at the last minute. One order for the 'Sophia' (see menu pic) and one for the buger special from the board (see pic of menu). Both beautifully presented with fresh, crisp vegetables, generous serving size and great price. Be aware, CASH only. Servers were friendly and informed and provided local information for us, travelers from out of town. The owner was on site. The chefs are humble and appreciate hearing if you enjoyed your meal. We did and told them. Complaints? None at all.

I went for lunch on a very snowy Saturday. It was slower (I'm assuming because of the snow) so I was seated immediately. The coffee was hot and delicious (it is Gimme which I enjoy). I got the Eggs Florentine, two poached eggs, spinach and hollandaise sauce, served on focaccia bread. I was blown away. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the yolks were runny and the whites cooked. The star of this show was the hollandaise. I have never had real hollandaise sauce before and now I know what I was missing. It was rich, buttery and velvety smooth. It tasted wonderful. The dish came with the perfect amount to coat the eggs and dip the bread in. I was satisfied, yet not over stuffed which was nice because I had things to do that afternoon. The wait staff was charming and engaged, but not annoying. I'll certainly be back!

Their food is top notch. I can always count on an excellent meal at Cafe Dewitt. Love their lunches and weekend brunches. Highly recommend.

Good Food, Terrible Service. I'm okay with waiting for food, but please let me know if there is going to be 45+ minutes of waiting for breakfast. We saw our server once when we sat down, and not once after that. The place isn't big, so we would just watch our server walk around almost as if he were avoiding us or something. It wasn't until approaching another server that they brought our food out. The food was pretty good. I can't complain there (other than it being a little pricey for me). thank you to the other servers who were kind.

Cafe Dewitt is one of my favorite places to grab breakfast in Ithaca. Depending what you order it is decently priced. You will not get an extensive amount of food, but the taste and quality of each dish makes it worth it. I have only eaten breakfast here so I cannot give my opinion on there lunch. My only complaint is that the service is not the best. On each occasion I have been there I often end up waiting 10-15 minutes before I even got water or coffee. One last little heads up is that they only take cash.

The food is amazing ! I ordered the French toast and bacon . I asked for fruit and they delivered. They gave me some homemade cranberry sauce and it goes perfect with the main dish . Not a lot of bacon like I expected for the price but it's perfectly crispy and the dog likes it as well . 10 stars if possible

My favorite go-to brunch spot in Ithaca! I'm always harassing my friends on Saturday or Sunday to go to Dewitt. I don't think I've ever ordered from the menu, I always choose one of the specialty omelettes on the blackboard, and they never fail! Always delicious and fresh. I will say though, I do believe the serving sizes have gotten slightly smaller between my freshman year and my junior year... The hot chocolate is a treat as well, rich and amazingly comforting on those cold Ithaca mornings, if you're ok with the price. Their coffee is a good morning pick me up as well -- smooth and I believe it is Gimme Coffee, which I am personally impartial to as a CS major who has gotten many cups of Gimme from the cafe in Gates Hall. The ambiance is great, it's cozy and familiar (I love the refurbished school-turned-mall look of the entire area). Get there early if you can (9 on Saturday or 10 on Sunday) or there will be a slight wait! The service isn't perfect but they are an extremely busy/popular spot. Slightly random tidbit: my friends who gulp down their water at meals don't love the small glasses, but they refill fairly often.

We just wanted some carbs..... We started out with this busy looking cafe by waiting for about 50 minutes while we watched brunch items getting crossed off the list left and right. They were running out of food and we were nervous! As we sat down we had our hearts and minds set of Huevos Rancheros. After all - it was 1 or maybe 3 items left on the menu. We ordered, and waited about another 20 minutes before anyone came to give us water or a smile hello. Oh.....turns out theyre out of that too. Ok we will get omlettes. Because those potatoes might save it for us. 20 minutes later. You outta those too?!!? CRIPES IS THIS THE PORTLANDIA BRUNCH EPISODE? So I get my omelet. Which is more like an egg folded with three baby pieces of feta and one leftover piece of spinach? Yikes. Service was so awkward and didnt offer their condolences for such subpar food and nothing offered to fill us up. The worst part of this. Everyone are you sitting down? The gave us side salads instead of potatoes with our omlettes. Moment of silence as we try and recover from this bad experience.

I wish I could give them a 5 star review for their food, because it is truly great, however their service leaves so much to be desired that I can't in good conscious. It's not that anyone that works there is bad at their job, far from it these are some of the best waiters in town, it's that the management seems to have made specific decisions that negatively affects the restaurant going experience. There are never enough servers on duty so even when it is half full you can end up waiting twenty minutes just to order, all the while having your water refilled half a dozen times because they have decided that the best thing for atmosphere is to have glasses that contain about a thimbleful of water. All in all, I would recommend it for the food alone, but don't go if you have a tight schedule. Also it is cash only, which is odd for an establishment like this in 2017.

So, the pros first: coffee is always strong and good, wait isn't terrible for a party of one or two, price isn't terrible, and it's a nice place to go for a quiet breakfast alone (there are plenty of small tables) The not so great: sometimes the servers aren't terribly attentive. It took about 10 after getting my coffee for someone to take my order. Same with the check- after waiting for it to arrive, I was waiting another ten minutes for someone to take it and bring back change. It was a busy Sunday, but it didn't exactly make me feel taken care of. The food- the specials always sound good and look good, and they come out quickly, but they're almost never hot- which is odd, since the kitchen is so close to the dining room. None of the cheese in my omelet was melted today, and my eggs Benedict a week or two ago was similarly lukewarm, on stale toast to boot. I want to give this place another chance, maybe try the sweeter side of the breakfast menu, but really, I would just be happy if my food was hot by the time it got to me.

On weekdays, they don't have brunch specials. I ordered the tex mex, which was delicious. They could have given more eggs, but the salsa went well with the eggs. This was the second time I've been here and !last time I got the huevos rancheros, which was very disappointing. I would come here again to try some of their other brunch specials.

I have been to Cafe Dewitt more times than I can remember. I love the savory breakfast and brunch - that I'd give a 4.5/5. However, every time I or someone has ordered something sweet off the menu it has not been good. All of the sweet dishes sound amazing and look that way too - however they just don't meet taste expectations. This is based off probably 5 or more times ordering waffles, pancakes, or desserts. Each time no good. Additionally, there is one waiter there in particular that does not seem to wear deodorant or shower. He STINKS. Every time he passed or filled up our water I had to hold my breath. This did not help my appetite at all and is unprofessional and gross.

I am honored to be the first to review this hidden gem in Ithaca! If you haven't tried it, I would camp out (or at least wait until their next business hours) for it. Located in the same small DeWitt Mall as Moosewood Restaurant, this cafe is a must for Ithacans and the like. They are best for their Saturday and Sunday brunch, but they serve other days as well. Visited Cafe DeWitt while on vacation. The staff was incredibly friendly. The eggs and chicken sausage were very fresh. The location is also great if you want to do some shopping with local artists in DeWitt mall.

This was my first time at the café. I sat down at a table and waited 10 minutes for a waiter to deliver a menu. I ordered two eggs, over cooked fried potatoes and two slices of toast for $9.95 plus tax. Took another 15 minutes to get the food on the table. I then ordered coffee and cream. Took another 10 minutes. Then I realized there was no cutlery or napkins on the table and it took another five minutes to get that. The potatoes were terrible the toast was too dry and generally unsatisfactory. When I ordered the check by yelling at the waiter you told me they don't take credit cards. I said is this a restaurant?. The waiter replied yes it's an old-fashioned restaurant.I should've looked at the reviews more closely But too many of them are highly rated. That's the last time in there for me.

No better than the average American diner. The waffles were generic and lacked the subtle sweetness that an amazing waffle has. This waffle needed layers of added on fruit/cream to dress it up. The bacon was really really terrible. Thick, dry, crumbly. Like a flavorless block. Little fat. So boring. Omelette was watery and doesn't come with bread. The breadbasket was cute and flavorful but was tiny. Made for two people MAX and even then just a taste. The place is terribly understaffed and a lot of the time is waiting. The venue is a bit dingy and outdated without Windows or charm.

The best brunch place in Ithaca. The food here is simple but elegant. They try to source their ingredients locally when possible and they even list the farms on the menu. The locally sourced bacon and ham are delicious. Must get: the Rosemary Garlic Roasted Potatoes. It's part of the Chef's Plate or you can order it as a side. The ingredients are simple but somehow it's so much better than all the other roasted potatoes I've tried. It has great full flavors and the potatoes are cooked just right, not too dry or too mushy. On the Specials one morning, I tried this toasted garlic-braised kale and ham sandwich with chevre. It was to die for. I'm sad it's not a regular item on the menu. Other than that, I have also tried the crab cakes. It was pretty good and I like that many of their dishes came with a good side salad. I've only been here for brunch on the weekdays when it's nice and quiet and you can get seated right away. It does get hectic on the weekends so it's best to get there right when they open at 10am if you don't want to wait too long. Note: it's cash only, so be prepared.

Delicious food! Good location in Ithaca Commons. Definitely will return to try more of the yummy bites and very good coffee and espresso drinks.

Fantastic brunch spot- probably the best in Ithaca, in my opinion! A wide array of meat/meat-less items, mostly locally sourced, at affordable prices. The cafe is in the center of DeWitt Mall, off street and next to the book store. Definitely recommend it! Easier to seat than Carriage House and certainly the food is at least as good.

Some of the best scrambled eggs I've ever had-- very soft, delicate, perfect eggs. Try the John Denver or the Fried Chicken sandwich.. both are incredible!!

The girlfriend and I had gone for a late-breakfast at 10am this past Monday and were more or less delighted that we had. We had seemed to have hit one of the "magical" lulls when we went since there weren't very many people at all, and we definitely did not have to stand in a line to be seated (as instructed by the signs), as some other reviews commented about the place tending to be jacked all the time. I guess we got lucky. The menu wasn't exactly what one could call "expansive" but they seem to put an interesting twist on every dish--at least for their breakfast choices. I had ordered the Farmhouse: 2 eggs, toast with jam, and homestyle rosemary red potatoes. Oh how I do love an interesting-yet-simple potato dish, and, those were by-far some of the best and most surprising breakfast potatoes I've eaten. Very unique. The rest of the plate was done well, too. My Farmhouse deliciously pictured: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/33nfauIJqAZb-Cy01BWwrw?select=FGC_Xxg6NdP9Euguibm6Hw The atmosphere was a touch on the skeevy-side it's true, but by the nature of the mall complex you are basically within the confines of a building with shops and restaurants attached around the edges and around the core of the walk-about and as such, so too is DeWitt with maybe a dozen tables seated inside its open-air style cafe setting (its walls lined with an interesting aquarium setup) and a line of tables planted along the outside of the mall's indoor walkway where shoppers parade through, but overall that was fine as the mall itself isn't exactly booming from what we experienced. If we're in the area again, I think this would definitely be an option for us.

Came for Sunday brunch, would come back! Note - cash only. Long wait for a table and long wait for food probably because the kitchen is so small. Food was good overall - brunch specials added a lot of variety to the menu. But omelette toppings are pre-mixed so no room for customization (i.e.: omitting the meat) unfortunately. *Correction: the omelette specials are not customizable; was informed that omelettes off the menu are customizable* On the farmhouse breakfasts, I was able to sub a small fresh fruit cup (berries banana apple) instead of the meat. Rosemary potatoes are so good! crispy red skin, soft and flavorful inside, not too salty Cornmeal pancakes would have been better off being called flapjacks. Blueberries and ricotta cream were a nice touch. The jam - think it was cherry? - was delicious, not too sweet and a little tangy. Fresh squeezed OJ was tart which I guess is a sign that it really was freshly squeezed!

The food is fresh and delicious. Talented chefs. Very polite and thorough staff. Making the best they can given COVID. We are in from out of town for a makeshift honeymoon and this was a lovely last meal before we pull out of town :)

Arguably the best brunch spot in all of Ithaca. This place is a hidden gem. During the week, it's hard to spot it since it's open for only a few hours. During the weekend, it's packed with locals. It has a nice, simple atmosphere. You can dine staring at its massive aquarium or into the storefronts surrounding it. The food is scrumptious! The stuffed french toast always fills me up as do the numerous delicious omelettes that they have. The waitstaff are also great. They are pleasant, accommodating and come by very often to make sure that your coffee and water are filled. Whenever I make the trek up to Ithaca, I make sure to stop here!

Good/decent food but absolutely horrible service. The host is a wonderful person - she was kind and enthusiastic and upbeat. A great way to introduce people to the restaurant. The waiter? Forgot things and just seemed like he didn't want to be there and was fed up with serving us. Coffee is from Gimme Coffee, which I love ... but this place managed to burn it somehow (after waiting forever for a cup of coffee and reminding the waiter that I wanted coffee). Long story short, I am not happy with the service and the food is not good enough to make up for that fact.

Maybe. Poor service and decent food. So when my sister made the reservation they morphed her name into something terrible, and disregarded her correction with impunity. The service was seriously slow - despite the amount of eye contact I made w the idle servers just hanging out watching. They don't take "day of" reservations, only for days in the future. Food was okay, definitely seemed fresh and made on the spot, though many ingredients were "out of stock" which limited the portion of the menu which we could order. In general is probably comparable with local standards.

This place was terrible. Where do I begin? I took my family here this weekend, and it was their first time in Ithaca. There was one staff who was a little bit racist, and we waited an incredibly long time to be seated, and an even LONGER time to get talked to by a waiter. They were literally just standing around and ignoring us. What's even worse is that the place ran out of potatoes! Halfway through their brunch on a Saturday! I find that to be incredibly poor planning and poor business practice. I'm sorry I took my family there, and I'm definitely not going to go back.

Very great breakfast and very nice people! :) I was there for the first time for breakfast, just gave them a tried and not disappointed. Great omelette and sausage. Staffs were very nice. And please prepared check or cash because they're not accepted card at all. :) They also served Gimme coffee, that's oasis in town. And I plan to be there for weekend brunch soon! :)

You don't come to Café DeWitt if you want a quick meal or typical ambiance. I'm not going to dispute anything that others have said in this regard - it's a café in a basement in which there are often long lines to be seated. If you're okay with sometime waiting a bit and, window views aren't your first qualification when it comes to come food, come to Café DeWitt. If not, Carriage House on Stewart has a good brunch (though also often has long waits) as does Simply Red Bistro at La Tourelle (pricier and more full of itself). So, you don't mind waiting sometimes and you're okay with not having a window view, what can you expect out of Café DeWitt?: -Really, good creative specials --they're not always your typical brunch fare, but among the often offbeat ingredients of the specials, there are always one or two gems. The lemon zest blueberry pancakes and some of the omelets are my favorites - though read the omelet ingredients carefully, they often contain a handful of unexpected ones. -Good standard fare - if you feel like an egg sandwich, or just eggs and potatoes and toast, it's all solid. -Good people watching -seriously, the place if full of hipsters, college kids and local Ithacans. It's fun to watch people and wonder what they're up to. -Fun fishtanks. Though I wish they decorated them a bit more.
