6 Best Day Trips from Paris

"This Reims institution is super-charged, with stained glass, wall hangings that look plucked from an antique market, old paintings and framed illustrations, small statues and flea market ephemera, vintage clocks, and old bistro tables and chairs. It's bright and colorful but if the weather allows, take your meal on the outdoor terrace. The space is full of character, with hearty, saucey, generous food, and a friendly and engaging staff. Perfect for a quick lunch before touring the Champagne estates all afternoon." - Lindsey Tramuta, Mary Winston Nicklin

We had a wonderful experience at the Cafe du Palais. Everyone welcomed us when we entered this very busy restaurant. We were lucky that we had made reservations online in advance. It was a short walk from the cathedral, so it fit nicely into our plans. The food and the service were exceptional. The pasta with escargot dish was delicious and filled with escargot. Our server was very warm and made it his job to see that we were pleased with our meal every step of the way. He made this very “French” experience memorable for us!

The whole experience was fantastic. The staffs were super friendly to our 3 year old son, the food was delicious, and of course the champagne was brilliant. We would definitely recommend to our friends to visit!

We had a wonderful experience at Café du Palais in Reims, thanks to Nathan, our incredibly polite and kind server. He patiently guided us through the menu despite our many dietary preferences—vegetarian, chicken-only, no seafood, no pork—and made us feel truly welcomed. His warm attitude and genuine helpfulness made our visit extra special. Thank you, Nathan, for your exceptional

Enjoyed our first meal in France at this establishment. Really large portions! Our server was very friendly and professional despite it being extremely busy. Sat inside and was very charmed by the decor and people. Many locals were also dining there which we took as a good sign. Will be back!

Needed to sit down on the way to the cathedral and settled in here on the patio. Received excellent service, delicious champagne, so decided to stay for lunch. The escargot pasta, pate and smoked salmon salad were all fantastic. Great experience.

Yelp
We happened upon this establishment after visiting the cathedral, and it turned into one of the most memorable meals we've had in France (and we've had quite a few-- this being our fourth visit). Please do not listen to people who say service isn't as good as if one were a local. My husband and I are American and live in New York. We have often felt more welcome in France and in its establishments than we do over here in the U.S. The service here was impeccable and the establishment is charming with a great history and decor befitting such a place. My husband and I ordered sparkling water and we each ordered l'assiette Champenoise, which consisted of Reims ham, potatoes, salad, and Chaource and Langres cheeses. This was a lot of food! We shared a delicious and exquisite île flottante (floating island) for dessert with two café lattes that were accompanied by dark chocolate squares. Oh, and I mustn't forget the Champagne! The ambiance of the restaurant, the wonderful staff, and the exceptional food and drink make this a must visit on your next trip to Reims!

Yelp
Friendly, amazing food and GREAT service! Feels like you are eating at someone's home due to the care and attentiveness of ALL the staff! Food was delicious! Ambience is warm and has the feeling of the old theater that used to be in its place. Wonderful experience!

Yelp
Great main course - also for kids and outstanding deserts e.g. rich chocolate cake, great raspberry sorbet and amazing apple tart.

Yelp
Post veuve cliquot tour, we had a lovely outdoor patio lunch of tagliatelle and a scallop and shrimp salade. Service was prompt, food was well prepared and tasty, weather was perfect. Champagne and chocolate cake added to the perfect experience. A short walk to Waida to get pink biscuits, chocolate and a baguette for the train back to Paris. A lovely day!

Yelp
After touring the Reims Cathedral, choose Cafe du Palais for an exceptional dining experience. The duck is to die for! Honestly, the appetizers and wine were also delicious. Food in France is impeccable in my opinion. Then again, I select places that are slightly away from the touristy areas.

Yelp
Busy cafe on a touristic street in the main part of Reims. Sat outside on a chilly night Had an app of local ham which was tasty, generous portion and served with yummy French bread and followed by a Buffalo which was a huge portion of baked mozzarella cheese, balsamic drizzle and baked cherry tomatoes. It was way, way to cheesy for me, but perhaps I was I'll prepared for the size and baked presentation. Hubs had a menu of the day for 39€. It was first a Salad with green beans , tomatoes and home made foie gras; followed by Duck confit, mushrooms, bacon bits, new potatoes and salad (Duck confit with mushrooms, bacon potatoes and salad).Generous portion and well presented. Because we were in champagne country, we had a bottle of local bubbly which was lovely. Dessert for hubs was an apple tart that was dry, and not tasty per him. Overall, nice meal...felt that because we weren't locals, our service was spotty.

Yelp
This was my favorite spot in Reims. Service was excellent, waiter was very friendly even though our French was poor. We got the plat de jour and it was life changing. Sitting on the patio with champagne was one of the best memories from Reims.

Yelp
We came in on a Saturday night and it seemed like most tables were reserved so while we were seated I would still recommend making a reservation for a Saturday night. Service was good. The quail was excellent, the duck confit was delicious, and the smoked salmon was delicious. There was a menu for my children which they enjoyed.

Yelp
Wow!! After an amazing tour of Veuve Clicquot we were told to go here for lunch... It was my 50th birthday. I will say that it was a meal I will never forget! Absolutely Horrible!! The salad was drenched in vinegar with old lettuce! My husband had some kind of pasta with Foie Gras that looked like chunks of canned cat food!! The wine by the glass which was a French Bordeaux tasted like it was out of a box...do not eat here!! Y

Yelp
The duck confit was amazing. I was completely stuffed and couldn't even order dessert.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the Salad Frommage outside right in from of the opera. Lot of fresh cheese! The place was pretty busy and everyone seemed to enjoy their food.

Yelp
The decor here is awesome as well as the architectural details in the back. Good central location and a nice spot for a coffee or snack or glass of bubbles. Basic bistro/cafe fare.

Yelp
Awesome cafe! The artsy decor is really neat providing entertainment to the eye while enjoying exquisite food. Must try their traditional French dessert made with a local twist: ile flotante aux gateaux roses, which is absolutely delicious. The service is extremely friendly.

Yelp
Wonderful, authentic decor, excellent, highly competent and friendly staff at a very busy time (with fluent English if you need it), great food. All round outstanding experience. Don't pass up a glass of champagne, you're in Champagne after all. Highly recommended

Yelp
Cool location. Fun vibe.. Friendly, helpful staff. But the menu was very limited, as in very. And the food we had was so so.
