Café El Punto isn't just a place you eat--it's a place you savor. A tucked-away treasure where each dish arrives like a love letter written in garlic, spice, and slow-simmered care.
I ordered the mofongo--because how could I not?--and what landed in front of me looked less like a meal and more like an edible sculpture. The mashed plantains were golden and smooth, shaped into a perfect dome, crisp on the edges and soft within. It cradled a cascade of shrimp, blushing pink and soaked in a warm, garlicky broth that pooled at the base like liquid gold. The aroma alone made me pause. It was buttery, briny, and rich--like the ocean had been simmered down to its most savory essence.
Each forkful was layered--first the crunch, then the softness, then the burst of that garlicky citrus sauce. The shrimp were juicy and tender, just enough bite to remind you they were fresh. The mofongo soaked up the broth like a sponge meant for flavor, getting better with every minute it sat and steeped.
I added a side of arroz con habichuelas, and it was no afterthought. The rice fluffed perfectly, beans tender, everything tinted with the deep umber of well-cooked sofrito. It didn't shout--it sang, quietly, confidently, with a warmth that lingered on my tongue.
The flan I finished with was divine--creamy, dense, and just shy of melting, topped with a slick layer of caramel that slid like honey across my spoon.
The service? Impeccable. Friendly, warm, intuitive. They didn't just bring food--they brought comfort.
Café El Punto doesn't try to impress with flash. It does something better: it cooks with heart. And you taste that in every bite.
