Yelp
I am trying hard to give an honest and polite review. This quaint spot serving Beignets is on Dani Drive, next door to Xfinity and First Watch, Fort Myers. My wife and I were politely told the Beignets are made to order, could we wait 25 minutes...no problem, we went across the street for gas, came back and the tray of 5 fresh Beignets was ready. I went to pay at the counter, and a very young and shy staff person asked if I wanted anything, I asked for a large coffee and sat down.
FOOD:
I know what happened next but I don't know how it happened. As I took my first bite of the Beignets I found it had a hair in the first bite. My wife and I were both wearing caps and I didn't suspect it came from either my wife or me. I brought it to the attention of the only other person on the staff who asked if I could show him the hair which of course I had dropped, and neither of us were trying to find it on the floor. Neither of the staff wore any hair net.
We didn't pursue this and continued to enjoy the Beignets, there's just was no way to describe how that happened.
The young man came to the table and placed my coffee on a coaster with a small container of cream. I thanked him and poured the cream into the coffee which immediately curdled. I've seen that kind of thing happened before and immediately assumed the cream was not refrigerated or had been left out. I showed the coffee cup to the young man and explained to him that the cup never left the coaster, all I did was put in the cream. He thought what he was looking at was sugar from the Beignets. He didn't have anything further to say, but did make a new coffee. The second coffee and the second helping of cream did not curdle so it's a second mystery. I just wasn't sure in these two small events exactly what had taken place.
SERVICE:
I guess one could say the service is pretty much self-serve. I took care of my own coffee twice was never asked if we wanted a refill or if we wanted anything else to go with our Beignets. So I guess regarding Service I can't give them any score that would be an attractive score. It just wasn't any service that I could comment on, just kind of nothing for customer service.
AMBIANCE:
This pleasant little space between two very big operations on Dani Drive is trying very hard to do a nice job, but the only two staff persons on hand seemed to be doing their best. Customer Service was kind of lacking - considering a hair in the Beignets of undetermined origin and the curdled coffee I guess it's just kind of a miss instead of a hit, and certainly not a home run.
I hope these two young people find a way to shine because they're really doing their best but there's kind of a long way to go before I can recommend this quaint shop. Perhaps some other time.
