We cafe-hopped during a week’s stay in Vienna, visiting at least ten different cafes. This café was the least-mentioned in guidebooks/websites, but it was our favorite by far. During the third week of January it was quiet, most of the clientele were local, and we felt most welcome and unhurried. We visited again and were even more welcomed by our waiter who remembered us, remembered our previous orders, and warmly greeted as if we were regulars. Most highly recommended.

Ordered the Verlangarter coffee. They had an older waiter. Not very helpful and welcoming. Wanted to call the waiter to order more food but he basically didn’t look our way even though the place was relatively empty then. In the end, we decided to leave the cafe without ordering our food. The cafe might have a long history but for us tourists, but I think they should look at providing better service to all customers.

A Michellin Star restaurant with excellent good offerings, a bit expensive as compared to other local restaurants.

I had a lovely experience having coffee and breakfast at Café Frauenhuber. The food was fresh and delicious, coffee was great, and the service was excellent. It’s tucked away a bit so it’s nice and quiet. I enjoyed watching the locals headed off to work for the day.

Be ready to meet the attitude: Hr. Andreas, the waiter, was rude and not helpful and actually turned away some customers even though the restaurant was empty around noon. He looked tired and openly complained and scolded the guests. However, he was flirty with some couples. The Tafelspitz for 28.90 was good, though.

Perfection: amazing food, great service and wonderful historic vibes. You really should not miss this gem of a Vienna Kaffeehaus!

Worth a visit. I had a goulash and an ice coffee (great coffee with vanilla ice cream) and fully enjoyed myself. The waiter was also friendly and looked out for us.

Beautiful charming classic antique cafe in the shopping center of vienna .the interiors just take you back to the good old days and how hustling and bustling this place is. It kind of feels like locals' favorite. We tried chocolate cake which was lovely

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch one day and then the next week stopped in for elevensies. The lunch goulash was delicious And took me three meals to finish. For elevensies we had apfelstrudel With vanilla sauce and raspberry yogurt cake. Both were delicious. The Apple strudel would have been enough for all three of us. The Vienna chocolate drink was delightful and the mango pango was refreshing.

Yelp
I was going to leave an average review, but after finishing our lunch I was impressed. The are only German menus, no English. The waiters speak only broken English. So load up Google translate to read the menu. The wait staff are all dressed in black suits and bow ties. They do not smile. This is an old fashioned Viennese cafe that makes you feel like you just walked into 1890. Priceless. Nothing but Austrian food. If you order a hamburger I would not be surprised if you were taken around back and shot. The coffees are outstanding and original. I had a Mozart espresso ( Mozart liqueur with a little chocolate), and apricot crepes. All fantastic! I look up and see my waiter at the bar sipping his espresso while I wait for the check. I relax. I'm in Vienna and there is no rush.

Yelp
We ate here for lunch one day, and it is a bit pricey for lunch. I had the Original Wiener schnitzel (pork) with the traditional side of boiled parsley coated potatoes. The dish actually comes with two schnitzels. The breading on the schnitzel was the picture perfect golden brown color. The meat itself was a bit dry and devoid of much flavor. There was a cranberry sauce that added a nice flavor to the pork. The potatoes were perfect. My wife had the chicken schnitzel, and it had a lot more flavor and was somewhat juicy. Their desserts looked awesome, but, unfortunately, we were too full to partake in any dessert. Service was excellent, and the restaurant has a sophisticated, yet very comfortable atmosphere.

Yelp
I went here with my family for lunch. It was not busy but we were treated as if we were an annoyance to the staff. The food was decent. Upon paying, the waiter decided to add an additional amount to the tip that I did not authorize. I did not find out about this until later on when I checked my credit card statement. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone given their dishonesty.

Yelp
Food is good, but DO NOT GO if you don't have reservations or if you're an English-only speaker. We wanted to end our trip to Vienna at this prestigious cafe, but it turned out disastrous. We went in without reservation and the hostess lead us to the table that weren't ready--- our table was the only one didn't have a table cloth. The menu given to us was in German which we didn't understand. Waiters completely ignored us (we did call out). We left the place after half hour in rage. We will never go back there again.

Yelp
I came here solely for the purpose of wanting to sit in the same cafe where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart once played. The experience was just fine for that, especially considering I came here in the mid-afternoon when there were hardly any other people there. It was quiet and relaxing. While there were a few vegetarian items on the menu, there was almost nothing vegan for me to eat here (though, that's not really their fault being a more or less traditional Viennese cafe), so I just got their homemade raspberry lemonade (which was delicious), and a plate of French fries (even though it sort of pained me to do so). The menu looks nice for people who can eat all those things. Service was pretty good - at one point, a fly flew into my glass of lemonade, and my server was happy to get me a fresh glass when I asked. There are a few tables outside, and I might have sat outside if it was a tad bit warmer.

Yelp
Service is not that good This is supposed to be the oldest cafe in Vienna, this building was a medieval bathhouse

Yelp
This place provided the authenticity and flavor we were looking for. Accommodatingly warm and delicious, it's what the family was looking for. Service was good, dinner was great, coffee and pastries hit the spot. All in all we had a very pleasant time. This is not your typical tourist trap (read Cafe Mozart) it's more of a local spot.

Yelp
A tour guide recommended this place for Viennese chocolate cake. Apparently it's one of the oldest cafe in Vienna. If you love American chocolate cake that is moist and very sugary, then you might not like this. It's not too sweet and more bready, almost like a soft biscotti cookie. I really liked the texture and taste. The layer of chocolate on top was also super delicious, melted in your mouth and was super fresh.

Yelp
Besides being eminently historic, the cafe is quiet, with great service and huge servings. The Breakfast for two could feed four. The yogurt and fresh fruit was good, breads, marmalade, jam, Nutella, honey and cream cheese with chives sure to please. My companions enjoyed their eggs and breakfast meats and cheeses. The tea and coffee were delicious and the serving plates, cups and tiered plates were all attractive. The decorations are historic, but it was maintained with fresh paint and upholstery. The booth configuration in a natural "U", was much more roomy and comfortable that other cafes. It was nice to have coat racks right next to the table. The selection of newspapers is also good.

Yelp
A nice cafe in the city centre with a bit of history and attitude. We stopped here for lunch and I had a salad of breaded chicken breast. The salad was excellent and quite filling and it tasted really good. The portions were big and everyone enjoyed their meals. Would happily come back here if I am in Vienna again.

Yelp
The red velvet couches that line the sides of the cafe make for a cozy, old vibe. The booths leave you with a bit of privacy and the old linen curtains along the windows make you think you are right at Oma's House. If you are just staying for a drink or coffee, the beautiful granite table will remain unclothed. However of you do decide to feast, the waiter in his suit will come over with a monogrammed tablecloth and set the table. The menu comes on the same wooden holder that the newspapers do and tells you about the history as well. Drinks -Cappuccino: ehh. Not good. Just burnt milk atop bitter coffee. Not good at all. But I did enjoy the small Milka Chocolate that accompanied it. Entrees -Schwein im Speckhemd (tenderloin wrapped in bacon): despite screaming oink oink, the meat was tender, flavorful and juicy. But it was raw pork to the EXTREME! The beans could have been cooked more but they are nice with the sauce and the individual peas pop out from time to time. The fries are fine: crispy and hot. Overall, ok. Desserts -Zwetschkenstrudel (plum strudel): mmm like an apple strudel but with plums. The plums are both sweet and tart--the perfect ratio. The dough is nicely moist and melts in your mouth. It's lovely. FINAL VERDICT: the oldest coffee house is also one of the most expensive Kaffeehauser in the city. I enjoyed the atmosphere and time spent, but I would prefer cooked meat and better coffee. The sweets though, delicious!

Yelp
While coffee itself was not bad, the service was not upto standard at all. Our waiter at Frauenhuber Herr Andreas seemed to despise us. We saw that he was friendly to everybody except us. We went into the coffee shop and saw him approaching us and his smile disappeared and we asked him if we can sit outside and he responded completely uninterested that "yes you can sit outside" and when we asked for a coffee menu as this was our first visit to Vienna he made a disgruntled face and went to get the menus. All this time he was sweet and nice to everybody except us. We ordered two coffees and he bought those. We then requested a piece of Sacher Torte as we were told that it is a must try in vienna. He came with the Sacher Torte which was without the cream and the absolutely dry and brought bill along with it asking us to pay immediately. At this point we were completely fed up and understood that he doesn't want to serve us as we were indians and that reflected in his behaviour towards us vs his behaviour towards others. In this age and time, it was really classless to see such a racist behaviour. We paid for our stuff and left the place with the thoughts of never coming back to Frauenhuber again and will recommend against it to all our Indian friends so that they don't have to go through such a horrible experience in a foreign land. Frauenhuber - you might be the oldest coffee shop in vienna which is what brought us to your shop and while the coffee itself was not bad, the lack of ethics and culture and class shows that you have a long way to go before being world class. Get your basics right and start respecting every human race and may be just maybe you will find the lost respect from others.

Yelp
The old waiter yelled at us in front of everyone because not every single one of our friend group wanted to order anything. (We just ate lunch too) He was so mean and really embarrassed us. He didn't even give me the menu to look at when he asked me to order immediately. Coffee is alright, but the service is -12/10.

Yelp
Lunch here was a pleasure on a Monday afternoon. Staff was very sweet about letting us switch tables to one with a pretty view. Main courses (pork salad, beef stew with spatzl) were good but not spectacular. However, the desserts were unbelievable! I'd make it a point to come here again for the wonderful "Cardinal torte." And, the location is perfect for popping in while shopping in the area!

Yelp
While visiting Vienna with a friend we stopped here for a coffee. The outdoor sitting is quite nice and at the door they advertise that they accept credit cards. The coffee itself was good and it is served with water. The negative side of the visit came when they told us no credit cards were accepted and we had to scramble to find cash.

Yelp
I have been trying to go to this place for over two months now, but each time we went there we would have needed to wait, but 7th time lucky and there was a free place to sit. This is a still in the more old Vienna coffee house Style, therefore i automatically like the style and service that comes with it. We not only had coffee here, we also eat a meal, however my rating below is JUST for the coffee and not the food. The selection of food was not hug, however what they offered is very good and very typical for Vienna, therefore i like the section very much. The food came fast and it was really nice and affordable, which means a bit cheaper than in most coffee shops for Vienna. However the coffee was far to hot to drink, so i naturally LOVED it. I ordered it with my meal, which i normally do not do, so my coffee was still hot even after i eat my meal. It took me almost 45 minutes to drink my coffee while eating and chatting. It was so hot i could also drink other things at the same time to draw out my coffee experience. I want to go back again and see if it will be that hot again, or if it was an accident that it was so hot. My Personal points system out of 10, standard for Vienna is 5. Location: 8 Atmosphere: 8 Decor: 7 Size: 7 Non Smoking Area: YES but very small. Coffee temperature(*2): 12 OMG it was far too hot. Coffee taste: 9 Service(*1): 7 *1=(Standard in Vienna is 5 on my scale) this is based on that you get serviced fast but you have to work hard to pay at the end) *2=(Standard in Vienna is 5 on my scale) I always have a Caffè latte as my control coffee. My coffee partner always has a Mélange.

Yelp
This review is not based on the food, which was good and charmingly presented. It is based on the absolutely terribly rude waitstaff. I promise that we are well-behaved, educated Americans yet they couldn't have been less pleased to have to deal with us. After we sat down (and were chastised throughout about how we ordered wrong, etc.) we looked online for others' reviews and saw many reactions like ours. In contrast, the nearby Kleines coffeehouse was tiny and charming and perhaps a better recommendation.

Yelp
Frauenhuber cafe is caffeteria which is located very close to the Kärtner Strasse. It is very intimit place with private atmosphere. When I am in Vienna I always go there for breakfast or lunch. When you want cheap and good breakfast for 2 it is right place where to go. For your money you will get almost everyting what you can imagine for perfect breakfast. To lunch I can recomind the Wiener schnitzel and potato salad or Fiaker goulash ( this can be sometimes a little bit oily). Service is very nice, smiling and professional.

Yelp
This is the worse café ever. The old skinny waiter with gray curly hair and metal glasses that everyone is complaining about on trip advisor just shooed us off. He said the tables were reserved although there were no one standing besides us. He then used another excuse "no table for five." Half the tables were literally empty. We could have split and occupied smaller tables but were not even given a chance. Don't bother going there. It does not matter if Mozart set one foot in there. He also did in all of Vienna streets and palaces.you do not needs this old cranky man to make you feel bad in such a beautiful city. Enjoy the rest instead!

Yelp
the coffee house Frauenhuber is a very traditional and acient spot in Vienna. Already having Mozart and Beethoven as musicians back in the 18th century, their rooms are full of viennese coffee house spirit. the prices are above average and its smoky all over the room. the waiters are extremly polite and stand for the old tradition. I would recommand going there once if you are a tourist in Vienna and wanna experience one of the rare historical coffee houses left (rather go there then the Mozart Cafe close to the opera!) but for locals this place has not much to offer!
google avatar

Marlene R.

Yelp
A pretty and good Viennese coffee house. I'd recommend it for taking a break on a busy sightseeing or shopping day but it's not a place to meet the cool young crowd. Nice atmosphere, bourgeois. Prices are as solid as the tradition in this Cafe, therefore only 3*

Yelp
This is by far the worst service I ever got. I actually cancelled my order and left, the waiter didn't even seem to care, he actually looked like he was expecting it. Service is usually bad in Vienna when you don't speak German so my expectations are always very low, but this was just something else. It's too bad because the place looked nice, yet while most coffeehouses in the area we're overflowing with clients, this one was almost empty. I surely understand why now.
